2 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2012

Even if this car is well maintained it sadly as serious electrical issues that chevy does not want to come to terms with. The speedometer goes out and in and reads incorrectly as well as the rest of the gauges at random points in time. The heating system needs replaces and the alternator consistently needs to be replaced even when the maintenance of the car is maintained. It is a consistent struggle to keep the car running even if it is not on high miles and it is a sad product for chevy.

3 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2011

March 30, 2011, I spent $80. 00 on fuel to fill my Trailblazer with gas. I started driving and the gas gauge never moved, and was still showing empty with the low fuel warning chiming. When I was almost home the fuel gauge finally started moving but never went past a half tank. I inspected the vehicle to see if there were any signs of a fuel leak and nothing looked out of the ordinary. When I had to leave again to run errands the fuel gauge would move, however, it would go back down to empty when I was stopped or put the car in park. I have also had issues with rear tail light panel wires frying and having to replace those when there were no apparent causes (moisture, etc. ). Lights dimming while I roll up a window or push other buttons in the car (radio, climate control) and lights in certain areas of the car just blowing out. Fuses are fine, alternator and battery are fine. Why is this vehicle having so many problems at 56,000 miles? I understand that these are not life threatening issues, but what is next. Why do I have to constantly monitor my mileage just to make sure I don't stall or run out of gas when I am driving. Are we the customers supposed to shell out $$$ to have repairs done continually on defective equipment and components. I don't think so. GMC needs to drastically improve the quality and durability of their products, and step up to the plate and take care of the customers they do have. Word of mouth is way more effective than millions of dollars in advertising.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2010

Lights dimming and flashing alternator not charging, wiring problem, dealer has no answer. I have vehicle just started this at 74000 miles, was fine up until that point. Heater fan works intermittently. Ghost electrical problems with door locks, radio , high beams. Very scary to drive.

5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2010

2005 Trailblazer alternator voltage dips alot as you drive. Radio does not work unless it is 100deg, then only one speaker works. Gas gauge reads empty after I filled up. Ignition is very hard to turn, you have to keep inserting and removing key until it frees itself.

6 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2009

Headlights intermittently 'flash' for a second during first 5-10 minutes of driving. Have replaced alternator and idler pulley. Gm suggests letting vehicle idle 1+ minute after start before engaging gear; this sometimes works. Dangerous and distracting to other motorists, as it appears to them like my vehicle is flashing its highbeams.

7 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2009

Headlights dim and volt meter drops randomly. Most evident at night, of course. Sometimes headlights fail completely for several seconds. Dealer has replaced alternator and fuse block but neither fix corrected the problem.

8 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2009

I have had several problems with the electrical system in my 05 Trailblazer. Now I'm pretty sure the alternator needs replaced. It has already been to the shop once for electrical related problems and the vehicle only had 77,000 mile on it.

9 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2009

Fuel just stopped working, driving down the road and headlights start dimming gauges go all over the board. Put a new battery in, changed the alternator and it continues to do this. Check engine light keeps coming on for oxygen sensor had that replaced 1 year ago needs replaced again.

10 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving approximately 50 mph, the contact heard a loud noise outside the vehicle. The transmission began to slip and there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic on two separate occasions for inspection. The technician stated that the alternator failed. The warranty expired on the vehicle and the manufacturer is in the process of being notified. The vehicle is able to be driven and has not been repaired. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 72,000 and current mileage was 76,000.

11 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2008

My headlights and dash lights flicker while driving. Also while driving my lights will dim and the blower for heat & a/c will slow and then pick up to normal speed again. It also revs by itself, even in park and will go forward slightly when it does surge. These problems only started after the alternator was replaced. I think it is a safety hazard to have lights flickering and engine surges.

12 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2008

I have a 2005 chevy Trailblazer lt, and I have noticed this strange sound lately when I start it up and it gets louder as you drive it. My father said that it is the bearings and the alternator, so I decided to look it up on the internet and saw multiple complaints on this issue with this particular model. I was told to file a complaint on a site, and was directed by many others who have experienced this issue. I am not happy, and I still owe on this vehicle and the warranty is conveniently up just as this is happening. I want this correct, and someone contacted gm and they stated that there is an issue with the pump and the electrical, well then they need to recall this vehicle and fix it for free.

13 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2008

I have had my 2005 trail blazer for 2 years, and have taken it in 3 times, and had the alternator replaced twice. I'll be taking it in again tomorrow, due the dimming/flashing lights, and whining noise. Same symptoms as before, alternator again I'm sure. I am hoping to sell it, and never buy chevy again. Very irritating!.

14 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2008

Late evening, I was driving down the freeway in a snow storm and suddenly my engine power dropped significantly. I could not go over 10 mph and barely made it up the off ramp to be stranded 3 1/2 hours away from home. I spent a total of $700 to get the alternator and I-pulley replaced. The old part was not returned or I would have had to pay an additional $50.

15 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2008

My vehicle headlights in my 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer, blink, flicker or flash when too much power is going in, I don't think this vehicle has a big enough alternator, but the dealer or gm will not do anything to help me, they said its normal. If its normal that the headlights flicker, I would have never bought this vehicle. It is just so frustrating to have a vehicle in a shop when you need it for day to day living. This has been going on for 8 months now. This could kill someone and according to multiple blog sites this is a problem for a lot of people.

16 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2008

Alternator failed.

17 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

Since the purchase of my 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer I have had problems with my lights(interior and exterior) flickering (I have noticed this problem at night). My dealership has tried many things on their own and suggestions from Chevrolet. The alternator was changed, lights switches replaced, computer reprogrammed. This problem is not being resolved by Chevrolet. This problem has some potential to cause serious problems if the events occur during night time driving.

18 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2007

Bought the 2005 Trailblazer new, have taken it to have the flashing lights fixed on 3 occasions, but they could not duplicate the problem, so they could not fix the problem. Then while on a trip the switch went out, and was replaced at a dealer where the vehicle was not purchased, the lights quit flashing. Now the alternator has gone out, only 48,000 miles.

19 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2007

On numerous occasions, I have had issues with the headlights dimming upon slowing from highway speeds. I was told that this was normal function, and could not be reproduced by the dealer. Today, I was informed by another dealer that the altenator bearings have gone bad, and the altenator needs to be replaced. Vehicle has 57k miles.

20 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2007

My alternator went bad, having problems with my lights getting brighter for a second during acceleration and then it goes back to normal. Winding noise coming from my alternator started at 36,175 miles right after the warranty ends.

21 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2007

Alternator bearing started going out at 37,000 miles.

22 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2007

I bought a 2005 Trailblazer used in June of 2007 with 34,000 miles. Since then I have had the rubber seal around the license plate fixed 3 times for the glue melting and running down the tailgate. The air conditioner when ran for extended trips doesn't blow like it should, the dealer supposedly fixed that twice. The whole light flickering thing is annoying and probably could be avoided with a stronger alternator. The check engine light came on for secondary air injection malfunction conveniently after the warranty has expired, its all due to a crappy check valve that is made with a metal that corrodes easily causing it to stick. I understand that problems happen but this vehicle only has 38,000 miles on it. General motors knows about the problems they just don't want to go broke fixing their mistakes. Or just do some quality control on vehicles before they are massed produced.

23 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2007

On 2 different times I have taken my 05 Trailblazer to the dealer for work to done on what we thought was the alternator. The headlamps and inside lamps will dim and the battery charge gauge will drop below the 14 amps gm call normal. I have been told that this is a normal condition. I feel it is anything but normal and it is a safety issue. People think you are bright lighting them and it is just plain hard to see at times. It seem to happen more when it is cold and damp. This is not normal, and unless gm decides to fix this problem we will not buy another gm product!.

24 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2006

Dimming lights on a 2005 Trailblazer and fluctuations in electrical accessories. Took to dealer twice, second time replaced alternator, they say gm states it's normal operation and the computer is drawing power and causing dimming. Other motorists think I am flashing lights at them, I am also concerned about fire.

25 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2006

Intermittent electrical problem. . . When driving, lights dim, electric gauge goes down several notches below normal reading and then up several notches past normal reading. This has been an ongoing problem, getting worse, with the latest incident having occurred today, Nov. 11, 2006.

26 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2006

My headlights dim while driving ,first noticed while driving about 25 mi. From home and they would go dim and the gage would dropbelow 14 and then they would brighten up and the gage went above 14, has done this on several occasions dealer took it home over night to see what was going on and of course it didn't do it , he showed me a print out that said not to replace the alternator that there was no problem with it, it continues to do this and it seems to me that there is a problem but until they see it I'm just stuck with it , any suggestions!.

27 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2005

I have brought my vechicle to the dealership for service on three seprate ocasions for the following condition: the voltage fluctuates between 10 and 15 volts, causing the headlights and instrument panel to go dim, then bright again. The dealership was unable to diagnose or reproduce the problem. Today 04/06/2005 the dealership stated they contacted gm, and stated that this was normal. This is not normal! I have never driven a vechicle in which headlights going dim, then bright normal. It is almost as if the lights are flashing at times. The dealership stated that there are tsbs stating that this is normal. This to me creates an unsafe driving environment. . Read more...
