Dashboard Failed problems of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer - part 1

39 problems related to dashboard failed have been reported for the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

The gauge cluster, speakers and occasionally lights stop working at various times, the gauges either register completely maxed out, minimum or somewhere obviously wrong. Example fuel gauge way past full, oil pressure gauge reading 0, charge gauge maxed out tachometer completely off the scale and speedometer inoperable. Rear speakers work sometimes and bulbs in brake lights and tail lights keep blowing out. The gauges are of most concern as the true values of fuel level, oil pressure, battery voltage and engine temp are rarely accurate (or even close). The speed will not operate at times and occasionally if the vehicle is restarted the speedometer will correct itself. All these conditions create safety concerns on some level from running out of gas in a less than desirable location, driving at incorrect speeds, overheating engine without warning or engine problems. Losing a tail light not only creates a safety concern for traffic but creates issues with law enforcement as well. These conditions can happen at any time, driving, parked or idling but the key must be on to power the accessories. Type of driving (city, highway, etc,) makes no difference.

2 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the speedometer failed to operate normally without warning. The contact also mentioned that the fuel and temperature gauges failed to operate. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure and current mileage was 48,000. Updated 11/29/lj.

3 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the speedometer failed. The contact was unable to see current vehicle speed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the instrument cluster had failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure and current mileages were approximately 113,000.

4 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2012

The dash component went out, leaving all of the gauges broken, including the speedometer and gas gauge. Also, the fuel sensor is broken so in order to have a working gas gauge, both the dash system and the fuel sensor must be fixed. The doors lock automatically and sometimes won't unlock if they were locked when the car was turned off until the car is turned on again. It takes them 2 weeks to fix the problem!! meanwhile, we have run out of gas, almost causing an accident, and continually have to gauge our speed by the speed of others around us, if we are lucky to be traveling where there are others who hopefully are doing the speed limit. It's going to cost about $1500 to fix it all and have a rental car for the 2 week period it takes them to fix it. It can't be fixed by a non-gm service center because gm has to reprogram the electrical system once it is fixed so it would then have to be towed to a gm dealer anyway and would cost even more. Meanwhile, we and those driving around us are at more risk because of these defects.

5 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2012

My 2005 trail blazer instrument cluster is going out it started with the oil gauge and now its the gas gauge, I was also told by the dealership that eventually my speedometer would stop working, it is extremely dangerous because I am not aware of how much gas is in the vehicle or if the oil pressure is having an issue. This repair at the dealership is costly.

6 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2012

Cluster went out and we had to have it replaced.

7 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the odometer and fuel level gauge failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the clusters needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

8 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2011

Fuel gauge has failed. Gauge reads empty, even though fuel tank is full. There are sporadic fluctuations of the needle, but gauge is no longer reliable for determining fuel level in the vehicle. Numerous reports of similar failures in the chevy Trailblazer / GMC envoy line of vehicles indicate it is a failure of the fuel sending unit.

9 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated the fuel gauge and oil gauge failed and no longer displayed readings. The contact stated that they did not know the oil pressure or the amount of fuel in the fuel tank. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage is 71,941. Updated 07/21/11 updated 07/25/11.

10 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

Fuel gauge failure. Fuel gauge still reads empty after tank is full. The gauge will register having fuel some of the time, most of the time the low fuel indicator will come on. I have to use the odometer to remember to refuel.

11 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

Our 2005 chevy Trailblazer has a non working fuel gauge and speedometer. We have 4 children. 2 of which live out of state and we drive back and forth several times a month from SC to TN to pick them up. When the fuel gauge went out we were annoyed but we just top the gas tank off often, but the speedometer that just started sticking we have no idea how to handle. We don't have the money to get it fixed but we travel so much for such long distances that it is extremely dangerous. When researching online I see that this is a very common problem yet chevy has not issued a recall. If chevy does not issue a recall for these we will not ever trust chevy products again. The safety of american families obviously does not matter to them. Only our bail out money.

12 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving various speeds, the contact noticed that the speedometer would fail intermittently and the oil gauge failed completely and would not provide a reading. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics where the technician advised that the instrument panel cluster had to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000.

13 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2010

Speedometer failure while driving 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer lt on the highway. Needle doesn't move at all. Cannot determine speed of vehicle. Brought to gm dealership. Diagnosed as instrument cluster failure. Similar cluster failures have occurred on other gm model SUV's and trucks (tahoe, suburban, sierra) and have been handled as "recalls". Gm has not acknowledged that the same failures which have occurred in Chevrolet Trailblazers are a safety defect worthy of a similar recall.

14 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2010

2005 chevy Trailblazer actually my problem started about 2yrs ago when my gas gauge went out. Then year later I was sitting in traffice and once I got back up to speed my speedometer went out and quit workin. It would jump around and then sometimes appear to be reading correctly then jump to zero or way over past 90 which of course I was not going that fast. Now my oil pressure gauge and temperature gauge are going out as well. After checking for recalls I see now there have been alot of complaints with this issue in the same year vehicle but no recalls. If this many vehicles are haing similar issues why isn't chevy making it right? I know mechanical things happen after owning a vehicle but not the same thing to this many vehicles.

15 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

My speedometer stopped working around six months ago and now the oil level gauge has stopped working. From what I've been reading it is only a matter of time before the fuel gauge goes out. This is absurd that this hasn't been recalled since there are countless complaints concerning the instrument panel.

16 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

We purchased a 2005 chevy Trailblazer LS and about a two months ago the speedometer will begin to stop working properly. After 40 mins of driving the gauge fails and will stay around 20 or be below 0 mph even on the highway. I contacted a local dealer who said there was no recall for this model and it would cost me over 500 dollars to repair. I don't have that kind of money. I'm very disappointed in this vehicle as I have heard hundreds of other complaints of the same for this model, and other GMC models. Is anyone going to stand for us, this is obviously a faulty vehicle. Please help.

17 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2010

My 2005 chevy Trailblazer is at the dealership at this moment due to malfunction in the instrument cluster panel. First my gas gauge went out 3 months ago and now my speedometer is broken - shows I am going 60 when I am at a stop or it may go down to 30 at times. It will cost $500 for the cluster and $550 for the fuel sensor. I called gm to see if they will pay for repairs but have not heard a response yet.

18 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2010

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer that has a dashboard cluster failure. My speedometer and gas gauges do not work. I have no idea how fast I am going and how much gas I have left in my tank. This has been going on now for over a month. There are thousands of complaints on the internet from angry owners describing speeding tickets, running out of gas, odometer failing, dashboard lights dimming and warning lights appearing. Gm is failing to take ownership of this defect and dealerships are charging $550 to $650 for repairs.

19 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2010

My 2005 chevy Trailblazer's gauges/panel is not working at all. It reads that the truck is running hot, that I'm going way over the speed limit (when the truck is actually parked), and that I have no gas (after I fill it up). My oil gauge it also out of whack. Please help.

20 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2010

2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS. Instrument cluster failure. My speedometer is not working. My cruise control was intermittent for a while, but now no longer functions (fuse is fine).

21 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2010

The fuel gauge went out in my vehicle. My speedometer is doing the same thing and my oil gauge. How is that not a safety recall! called they said there was no recall. Received a notice that they would pay half of repair for the fuel gauge. After warranty was up.

22 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

Fuel gauge failed. I ran out of gas on a very busy interstate with my granddaughter in the car. This could have been a major issue had I not been able to get off to the side of the road. It seems this is a common problem in the chevy Trailblazer. I took the vehicle to the dealer and they determined it was a fuel sensor in the fuel tank. The repairs cost me almost $300.

23 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2010

Trailblazer 2005 fuel gauge failure, speedometer intermittent failure, vehicle lunges at idol or shuts off approaching stop/brake. Almost causing accident. Been to repair and intermittent problem not identified. Fuel system flushed. Speedometer issue same. Fuel gauge currently not working properly, unreliable.

24 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2009

My speedometer has failed on my 2005 Trailblazer with 67,000 miles on it. It started malfunctioning in Dec. 09 intermittently. Now the defect seems permanent. My chevy dealership says gm will not stand behind the problem. I escalades. Why was the Trailblazer not included when they exhibit the same problem with instrument cluster failures. Is it because it is too large a problem to deal with. It is a safety issue when the speedometer is incorrect. There are too many failures to have this problem disregarded by gm. This is an expensive repair(about 5-600 dollars). The number of complaints are so great that I feel gm is ducking the problem. I can understand why gm needed a government bailout by manufacturing vehicles having such a grievous problem. Instrument clusters such not be failing at such a horrendous rate.

25 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Since July 5, 2009, the fuel gauge dial fails to display the correct amount of gasoline in the tank. The contact feels that this is a safety issue because fuel began to leak out. In addition, the tank could be empty, but the fuel gauge would display a full tank. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 70,000.

26 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the speedometer and the oil gauge failed. The dealer stated the speed control senor had failed and the failure was common but was not recalled. In addition, the speed control sensor also controlled the oil pressure gauge. The contact was concerned with not being able to determine if the oil pressure was dropping in the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 114,000.

27 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the entire instrument cluster failed. The dealer was not contacted and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 102,000.

28 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2009

Control cluster failure for a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer, speedometer works about 15% of the time.

29 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2008

1. Fuel gauge failed in October 2006, paid for repair and it failed again in November, 2007. 2. Speedometer jerks and on occasion locks up or does not reset to zero at stopping. Cluster needs replacement. This happened the first time on December 16, 2008 and has happened several times since.

30 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2008

Instrument cluster. My speedometer has failed. My fuel gauge had failed a few months ago. My doors lock by themselves even when you are out of the vehicle. A couple of times away on a trip and locked out of the vehicle. My lights flicker at night to almost off. Chevrolet said they don't see a problem however if you get on line you are able to check many complaints about the Trailblazer of the same situation. Why does the consumer have to pay out of pocket for a product with many failures that should not have happened.

31 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2008

1. ) no events took place dashboard cluster just failed. 2. ) speedometer, oil gage, rpm, gas gauge everything went haywire, impossible to tell speed. . . 3. ) my understanding is the dash board cluster is bad, its 450-600 dollars to repair, there has been alot of complaints but no recall yet? this should be a recall, this issue is well documented and known about. . . This is a safety issue, the speedometer should work, the instruments should work.

32 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2008

I've seen the other listings also describing this complaint, same symptoms. Without notice, speedometer will cease to work correctly, so you have no idea what your actual traveling speed it. This is an immense safety issue. I have shared my concerns with my lawyer and if a recall is not issued to all the chevy Trailblazer owners a class action law suit will costs gm much more money than a recall. In just one google search many complaints were found. Example: [xxx] , al, USA 2010feb 12 Trailblazer 3. 2l v6 it's very hard to drive a car without the speedometer working. I am afraid that I could get a speeding ticket and I have never had one. My speed shows I am doing 120 mph when I start my car. This is a pain in the butt. I have a 2005 Trailblazer the speedometer works when it wants to. I have owned blazers since 1984. I can't believe chevy wont back up the consumer. It will be the last chevy I ever own. [xxx]west monroe, NY, USA 2009dec 15 trailblazer LS v6 automatic transmission 61,000 miles I was a chevy man intil I bought a 2005 Trailblazer, now chevy can kiss my [xxx]. How in the [xxx] does your instrument cluster go out at 60,000 miles and its not on recall and to top it off all of the other chevy's SUV and some of their trucks are on recall for the very same thing? tell me please tell me that that is not a bunch of bull. I will never by another chevy again. Its said that my 96 Dodge dakota runs better than my 2005 chevy. Go Dodge you can't go wrong with them. So now I'm a Dodge man, good job chevy normanm fort leonard wood, mo, USA 2010feb 01 trailblazer se automatic transmission 89,000 miles has anyone heard where chevy stands on the issue. I can't believe this 450. 00 to fix chevy should fix [xxx] mi, USA 2010jan 27 you really need to see this as a safety issue and set forth a consequence of recall to gm to fix all these bogus speedometers. [xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

33 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

The gas gauge starts out erratic then will completely stop working and you never know how much gas is in your tank when you just filled it full. Vehicle will die for no reason in traffic and at times the headlights dim and volt meter drops randomly while driving. . Read more...

34 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2008

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact noticed the fuel gauge stopped functioning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a technician stated the fuel assembly inside the fuel tank needed to be replaced. There was an open investigation, NHTSA action number dp10001(fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). The contact stated the speedometer also stopped functioning after the fuel gauge failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the speedometer was repaired. The fuel gauge was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 38,000.

35 Dashboard Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2007

Gas gauge failed at 40,000 miles. The needle will not move off of "e". For a short time it would actually read 1/4 full when the tank was full now it doesn't move. The warning ding goes off periodically. In addition to the gas gauge problem the blower on the heater/ac no longer works on the high setting. This car is barely two years old, there is no excuse for poor quality in american made car's! of course these items failed after the warranty expired. At 15,000 miles the electrical component that controls the turn signals failed. Engaged the turn signal to turn right and the left turn signal came on. . . . . Oh well, at least that was under warranty.
