Instrument Panel problems of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer - part 1

162 problems related to instrument panel have been reported for the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

Letter from senator durbin on behalf of constituent re gm recalls. 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The consumer stated she inquired on several occasions about a recall, regarding the malfunction of the speedometer, gas gauge ad oil gauge. All three of them stopped working.

2 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2013

Driving on the highway to the shore my speedometer increased to 95 mph. When we parked it was stuck on 10. Since then it has happened many times. When I park I have to check what it stops at. Sometimes, its 10, 20, 30, etc. I have tried disconnecting the negative battery cable and that helps as a temp fix. My dealer says there is no recall, but I saw online a class action suit against gm, but not for Trailblazers. This is a gm issue and I don't have the money to get it fixed. Updated 03/11/14.

3 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2012

Speedometer failure. Speed presented by gauge was incredibly inaccurate. Rate of speed was 20-30 mph faster. Finally a total "lock-up" of instrument. At a stand still gauge reported 60mph. This has been reported to gm they refuse to recall these vehicles. Refused to repair. Further research showed thousands of reports of failures of speedometers. How many people have died and or crashed because rate of speed was inaccurate??.

4 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2012

Gas gauge was reading inaccurately resulting in car stall. Also, speedometer is not functioning correctly - will start out anywhere from 5 mph to 45 mpg over from standstill.

5 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2012

The car states I am going 50 mph less than my actual speed. This is a safety concern for me. If it wasn't for my gps I wouldn't know my actual speed. I have read several others complain about the same problem online. Please recall this.

6 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the speedometer failed and would display that the vehicle was traveling much faster than the actual speed driven. The contact state that while in a parking lot, the speedometer erroneously displayed that the contact was traveling 30 mph when the accelerator was not being depressed. The failure would recur intermittently. The instrument panel lights would become extremely dim when the failure would occur. The vehicle had not been inspected. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 125,000.

7 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2011

The SUV was going about 40 mph when the instrument panel showed 120 mph . . . It will not go back to normall . . . It does now show 100mph even with the car off .

8 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

My speedometer needle would read the wrong mph and start to bounce all over the place and about a week after that started it just wasn't working all together and now doesn't move at all.

9 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2011

My speedometer began to work improperly. Sometimes it would not go all the way back to zero when the ignition was switched off, or it would be functioning properly and then for no apparent reason the needle would go all the way around and end up pointing at the park, neutral, reverse area at the bottom of the speedometer. Now the speedometer does not work at all and the tachometer has started to work intermittently. It is doing the same thing that the speedometer was doing. Right now the vehicle is off but the tachometer needle is on 3. I just had the fuel sensor gauge replaced under Chevrolet's "special policy" because it had ceased working as well. I have serious reservations about the integrity of the other gauges because while they appear to be working I do not know. I contacted cheverolet and was told that while other makes and models had been recalled mine had not. When I inquired as to whether the components for my instrument cluster came from the same supplier as that of the recalled vehicles I was told that they would not disclose that information to me because it was confidential. They did say they had other complaints similar to mine but at this time they were not offering any assistance to consumers and did not know if or when they ever would. I was told that due to the age of my vehicle (a 2005) that I could expect certain repairs. I do expect certain repairs however a total failure of the instrument cluster, that has been documented on my make and model as well as other Chevrolets, is not one of them. It is frustrating and disheartening to me that while Chevrolet is aware of the problem they knowingly disregard the concerns of their customers, especially as the malfunction of a fuel gauge, speedometer or any other instrument panel component could have serious consequences.

10 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2011

1) fuel gauge indicator shows an empty reading despite just being filled. After driving for 40-50 miles gauge will show about a quarter of a tank for a short time and then go back to empty. When problem first started the gauge was all over the dial. 2) speedometer erratically will show a speed at a greater speed than actually traveling. Recently showed going 110mph despite traveling along with traffic flow of approximately 65 mph on major interstate highway.

11 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2011

The speed keeps changing and it will not stay accurate and all gauges keep messing up.

12 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving approximately 60 mph the speedometer displayed 90 mph as the vehicle mileage increased to 100,000 miles. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for the failure. Approximately a year ago the oil pressure gauge malfunctioned and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 102,000.

13 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2011

Bought this vehicle used in oct 2010. Not long thereafter, noticed the speedometer wouldn't work all the time - normally it works when I first start driving but when the vehicle warms up, it stops working all together. I think it's a safety issue if you do not know how fast you are going. The cruise control also doesn't work once in a while. Most of the time it does, but occasionally I can't get it to go on at all.

14 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2011

Hvac blower stopped working on hi speed. Vehicle interior lights dimmed for about 1 sec corresponding to the instrument panel voltmeter falling to the low end of normal. The interior lights returned to normal brightness and the voltmeter returned to its normal position with engine running-a little above the middle indicating charging condition. Upon inspection the blower resistor and harness melted together. Pin g of the blower resistor melted the plastic around it. Replaced the blower resistor. Note: no fuses blew old part is available.

15 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving approximately 5 mph, the contact noticed that the speedometer did not indicate the correct speed. Other components on the instrument cluster were also not functioning properly. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the problem occurred again. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000 and the current mileage was approximately 114,000.

16 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2010

2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. . . A couple of days ago, while my 15 year old daughter was driving this truck the speedometer got stuck on 10mph and she could not tell how fast she was really driving. We were on a back country road (thank god) not in heavy traffic but I know she had to be going at least 45mph. She has just gotten her learner's permit a few weeks earlier and did not have much experience driving so this really freaked her out. Now the speedometer will work when you first start the truck but if you come to a stop it will stick again and at times it will read higher than what I am actually traveling. Like this morning, upon starting the truck before it was ever put into drive the speedometer read 10mph. This could be a very hazardous defect and gm should recall this problem and fix it. In researching, I see that there have been many complaints about the speedometers in these trucks, yet gm has done nothing to resolve the problem. It is costing consumers approx. $500-$750 to repair. I have gotten an estimate of $600 myself but have not had the repairs completed yet. No money to do so and hoping my warranty will cover it.

17 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2010

2005 chevy Trailblazer. . . Power to instrument panel including radio cuts in and out leaving a variety of warning lights lit and low fuel warning audio signal going off. Resets when ignition is turned off, but happens again when car is started and happens in irregular intervals for the entire time the car is running. The door locks (including hatchback) do not always unlock when car is stopped, and interior lights and radio sometimes stay on. All gauges (gas, oil, temperature, etc) go to zero. After talking to a mechanic friend, we took the dashboard apart, pulled out the cluster and put it back in. That appears to have stopped the problem for now, but we have not used the vehicle much since doing the repair. We have been told it could require a new cluster costing in the $400 range not including labor. It is interesting that 2003-04 vehicles with this problem were covered by a special policy, but not the 2005.

18 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2010

My speedometer recently quit working completely.

19 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2010

I have a 2005 chevy blazer that we took on a trip to nashville. On the interstate we realized that our speedometer kept going up and everyone was passing us. By the time we made it to an exit the speedometer had made it all the way around to d (drive) at the bottom of dash. When we stopped it would only go back to 50. When we stopped at autozone the guy told us he has seen this in 2 of the Trailblazers that is family owns. We were going to have it checked but the next day the speedometer decided to somewhat work, now it is about 5 miles off. I have been told that it probably will happen again.

20 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2010

Faulty speedometer.

21 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2010

2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext LS. The speedometer gets stuck and does not work properly. This is a safety hazard.

22 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2010

Speedometer and other instrument panel items are not functioning. Main issue is the speedometer as I have no idea how fast I am going.

23 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2010

2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer speedometer quit working while making a 400 mile trip from arkansas to texas. The speedometer started reading 40 miles slower than my actual speed. Eventually the gauge went below 0 mph while keeping up with traffic on a highway w/ a posted 70 mph speed limit.

24 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2010

On or about November 12, 2010 the vehicle owner had the instrument panel replaced. Shortly after replacing the instrument panel at a cost of approximately $550 the gas sensor stopped working. The owner complained to the chevy service department but was told that this was a separate issue and not caused by the replacement of the instrument panel. The owner checked for recalls on the internet but found more complaints for the same issue but no manufacture recall or data on either the instrument panel or gas senor/gauge. Since the gas sensor/gauge/fuel level indicator does not work the vehicle owners have run out of gas at least 3 separate times. 1). A Friday night at 10:00 p. M. On a dark winding road; 2). On a very busy 4-lane thorough fare both vehicle owners and a passenger ran out of gas at a stop light; 3). Most recently was approximately 3-weeks ago. There's no way to know when the gas tank is full or running low on fuel because the "low gas" fuel light stays on most of the time or when the owners do fill-up the tank the gas gauge remains "e". The owners were quoted the cost of repair would be upwards of $500+.

25 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2010

On 2005 chevy Trailblazer lt model, the speedometer doesn't work anymore. Will read below how fast I'm actually going. Will work off an on, so I always have to pay attention to how the needle is moving. Taking it in for a repair soon.

26 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2010

Just one day we got in the car to head to the grocery store and as we were heading there I looked down and the speedometer was at 20 when I was clearly doing 55. I pulled up to a stop light and shut the car off then restarted hoping it would fix itself and nothing. I has never worked right since then. I went to the local chevy dealer and asked to see if there were any recalls on this issue and they told me that there are recalls on every chevy SUV and truck except Trailblazer and told me to input a complaint to see if they would recall this issue. I asked them how to do that and they said to contact chevy. They were not helpful. The bull**** thing is that every chevy truck and SUV from 2003 to 2007 use the same instrument panel so you can't tell me that this paticular vehicle is not like the tahoe, suberban, or silverado that has the same issue as I am having. I am pissed that I have to pay for a faulty part that chevy knows is an issue.

27 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2010

The gas gauge on my 2005 chevy Trailblazer has stopped working. It gradually stopped registering the actual gas. After filling the gas, it register empty. As I drove, the gas would register as full. Eventually it stopped moving at all. This has been going on for a period of 6mos. I started filling the gas more often. After filling the gas, 2 days later, the vehicle shut off in the middle of the highway, causing a near traffic accident because there was no warning. Clearly, I wasn't out of gas. I had just fill the gas and became accustomed to how far I could drive before I needed to refill. This was very dangerous. It is obvious a defect in the gas gauge. I wasn't sure until now after visiting this site that I am not alone. The speedometer has also stopped working. I'm sure if it is registering the mileage I drive. Not knowing how fast I am driving is surely a safety issue. I visited my mechanic is was given an estimate of $500 to repair. Surely it shouldn't take a death to rectify this issue.

28 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2010

Speedometer on my 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer has malfunctioned and completely spun around and stuck at 120mph. This just spontaneously failed and my gas gauge is acting weird too. I have seen that this seems to be a common problem in this particular model and gm needs to issue recall and fix this!!!.

29 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2010

2005 chevy Trailblazer-gas gauge stopped working accurately. Stays around 1/4 tank while driving. Low level indicator comes on when car is first started and then moves back up to 1/4 tank even though the tank may be full. Two weeks after noticing the gas gauge I also noticed my speedometer was not reading accurately. Noticed this when I was sitting at a stop light. While car was stopped speedometer said I was going 20 mph. After reading all the complaints regarding these same issues, I'm very disappointed that no one is doing anything about it. This is my first chevy and im sure it will be my last. If its relevant mileage is approximately 69,000.

30 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving approximately 45 mph, the speedometer failed. The contact stated the speedometer showed he was driving 100 mph when he was driving approximately 45-55 mph. The vehicle was not seen by the dealer or a local mechanic. The failure and current mileage was 106,000.

31 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2010

Speedometer failure in 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Speedometer works erratically. Vehicle has almost 90,000 miles. Problem began around September 28, 2010, and has become more frequent, occurring daily now. Speedometer will gradually show a decrees in speed when vehicle is not decelerating, eventually displaying zero or below zero mph. This is a major safety concern and should be resolved by Chevrolet.

32 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2010

2005 chevy Trailblazer speedometer malfunctions, jerks all over the place and does not display an accurate speed. Seems to not reset to zero mph when stopped so it just keeps increasing.

33 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2010

Gas gauge and speedometer on chevy trailblaizer 2005. No correct reading.

34 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2010

35 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2010
