Ignition Switch problems of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Six problems related to ignition switch have been reported for the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2017

Gm ignition switch problems/recall. On 07/18/2014 I took my 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer (32,262 mi. ) in for service to fix/replace parts: faulty ignition switch. Today, 06/02/2017, my Trailblazer (35,193 mi. ) is still having the same problem. A faulty ignition switch which is causing abs and parking brakes lights to come on and stay on, the blower for air/vent will not work and since these parts are all connected electrically, I once again have to replace the faulty ignition switch. I was never reimbursed for the first recall. Please look into this matter. I would hate to get rid of a perfectly good vehicle, that has held up all of this time, I only have 35,200 miles on this 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Will the ignition switch keep failing on this vehicle? thank you.

2 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

On or about this date my 2005 Trailblazer experienced and electrical failure during a snow storm. Both power door lock and power window switches became in operative and the windows opened automatically while driving and would not go back up. I also encountered an electrical smell in the vehicle, after stopping and turning off the vehicle and then restarting the switches functioned again. I noticed that in the gm recall on 6-30-14, the 2005 Trailblazer was in the recall for defective window/lock switch can overheat and malfunction also mentioned is the key switch problem gm had. I have contacted the dealer and been told that without an official recall from gm that there is nothing that can be done. The was in fact a recall but it seems it was "swept under the rug". Here is the reference list I found: currently, the following list of vehicles are all subject to the gm recalls on ignition switches: 1997-2005 Chevrolet malibu 1998-2002 Oldsmobile intrique 1999-2004 Oldsmobile alero 1999-2005 pontiac grand am 2000-05 Chevrolet impala and monte carlo 2004-08 pontiac grand prix 2003-14 Cadillac cts 2004-06 Cadillac srx 2011-14 Chevrolet cruze; 2012-14 Chevrolet sonic 2013-14 Chevrolet trax, Buick encore and verano 2014 Chevrolet camaro and impala, Buick regal, Cadillac xts 2007-11 Chevrolet silverado hd, GMC sierra hd equipped with an auxiliary battery 2005-07 Buick rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC envoy, isuzu ascender, SAAB 9-7x 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext, GMC envoy xl yet gm has failed to act and take responsibility. What can be done??.

3 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2012

Sir/ MA'am, I noticed recently in the news that several gm product lines have been plagued by faulty ignition switches causing the vehicle to lose power and/or cut out. I implore you to look into the Trailblazers. I emailed gm while I was deployed (2012) and they gave me the runaround saying that it is not a documented problem, as expected. A simple internet search would show that a lot of other Trailblazer owners have bad ignition switches/ electrical issues that cause the vehicle to lose power at all speeds. My wife lost power going about 35 mph and I had my two children along with her. This is just one example, on one occasion. Granted, I do acknowledge this problem is intermittent, it still occurs at random and at all speeds. Gm tells me to go to a dealer and have them look at it. I refuse to pay gm any money to have a dealership rip me off for an ignition switch that is flawed and replace it with the same faulty oem style/model number. I have ran a scan tool looking for codes and it doesn't have any. Like stated previously, this is another line of gm that is plagued with ignition and electrical issues that gm refuses to take ownership of. The mileage I have entered is approximate. I cannot remember exact numbers, but it has happened for years, intermittently. When the vehicle has coasted to it's final destination after losing power, it starts up and drives normal again after it is put back into park. Also keep in mind that it doesn't show any check engine lights, indicating a problem or need of servicing. Again, please look into this product line as I know the result(s) will show that gm is liable and I don't want any fatalities because nobody spoke up about it.

4 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2008

About 2 weeks ago, my 05 Trailblazer began having "no start" problems. Sometimes it would start and sometimes not. During times it would not start, I could not shift it out of park. If I turn the key off and back on again it would start. But I took it to the dealership to find out what was going on, and of course, they could not duplicate the problem. So I continued driving it with this off and on problem for 2 weeks until one day I was driving on the interstate with my son, mother and father in the vehicle. All of a sudden the motor just killed! luckily there was no one behind me and I was able to pull over to the side of the road. As I was pulling over though it was difficult because the power brakes and power steering were lost. My son was very upset and nervous. This time at the dealership they confirmed it was the ignition switch. This is the second time replacing it since buying the vehicle new. Even the technician admitted that Trailblazers have alot of trouble with ignition switches but said there is no recall because it's not a "safety issue". So my engine dying while I'm traveling 70mph on the interstate with family in the vehicle poses no safety issue? I feel that Chevrolet should issue a recall and reimburse me for my costs as my warranty is expired. By the way, other problems I've had with this vehicle include the idler pulley, brake lights going bad and melting into the terminal, speedometer malfunction, cd player broken, glue around license plate frame oozing and melting, broken latch on storage compartment in between front seats, faulty thermostat causing engine light to come on, and problems with the back hatch door. Next vehicle I buy will be a reliable Toyota or Nissan. Can't wait to get rid of this chevy.

5 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2006

I bought an 05 Trailblazer ext I have had it 9 months , I went to start it and it would not turn over nothing, it was also stuck in the park position, dealership said I had a bad battery, I had it checked through auto zone was fine , had it towed the tow truck driver got it out of park and was able to start it. The dealership proceeded to say it was the battery so they changed it. I picked it up brought it home and parked in the driveway like before. The next morning it would not start again had it towed to the dealership with it stuck in park again, they now have said that the ignition switch was bad , which would cause it not to start and be stuck in park, so I guess we will see if it is fixed or if it will go back for the third time in one week.

6 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2004

For no reason the vehicle shuts down. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer four times for this problem.
