Note: this is the second catastrophic brake failure for this vehicle on September 204 , 2012, while on a trip from houston TX to winona mn, I was driving down a ranch road and came to a stop to let a passenger get out and open a gate. I drove through the open gate and put the Trailblazer in park while waiting for the gate to be closed and the passenger to get back in the vehicle. I then went to apply the brakes in order to move the transmission from park to drive and, once again, the braking system failed catastrophically, and the brake pedal went to the floor. A mechanic was called out and, he too pumped the brake pedal, which hit the floor with no resistance of any kind. There were three eyewitnesses to this catastrophic failure. This mechanic replaced the master cylinder and found out that I am not the only 05 Trailblazer owner who has suffered through catastrophic brake failure events. . Read more...

Well serviced 90k miles. Traveling at 35mph pushed breaks all the way down (fracturing right ankle) slowed me down but failed to stop at upcoming red light. Struck medium size vehicle injuring other driver and causing considerable damage to both vehicles. Chevy dealer collision/service center estimated $8k in repairs. In other words it costs more to repair it than what the vehicle is worth. Also:"master cylinder is bad" and air bags did not deploy. Chevy tech. Said "impact was not big enough" . After reading some eight other complaints very similar to this . I am concerned about driving this or getting into another one. Is there not a break light service sensor that I should have noted. ? service manual for scheduled maintenance says to check front and rear axle fluid and add fluid as needed every 5k to 7k miles after 67. 5k miles.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Whenever the driver depresses the brake pedal, the vehicle fails to stop. She must constantly pump the brake pedal in order for the vehicle to come to a complete stop. She has taken the vehicle to the dealer numerous times and the master cylinder has been replaced 4 times. The vehicle is currently at the repair shop for the fourth time. The contact believes that a recall should be issued and the manufacturer should find a solution to the defect. The failure mileage was 53,000 and current mileage was 61,000. Updated 4/23/09

My 2006 chevy Trailblazer ext is junk! we purchased it used in November of 06 it had around 20,000 miles it now has 70,000 the front doors make loud popping noises when opened and shut check engine light stays on have had it serviced twice wont go away had master cylinder replaced its now making a horrible whining noise when started being driven horrible wind noise from front passenger door it is horrible! while driving down the road the windshield just popped! it wasn't hit by a rock or anything! back hatch seems to be coming loose have had many many brake problems.
While applying the brake pedal vehicle failed to stop completely. Driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that master cylinder needed to be replaced, and replaced it. However, the problem recurred. . . . . . Coming off the road at 20 mph brakes went all the way to the floor another vehicle went to the left lane to prevent consumer's vehicle from hitting him. When bringing vehicle to service center was told there wa snothing wrong with the vehicle. On eof the wheels came off on the highway.
When the vehicle is at a complete stop/idling the brakes go all the way to the floor. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on four occasions where nothing was found wrong. The vehicle was taken to another dealer where they found the master cylinder by-passing.
