Power steering gives out when going slow and turning. Like turning into a parking space, or turning corners. Deal says the power steering rack is leaking on both sides. The car has 79000 miles.

Steering goes in and out at low speeds. Intermittently becomes very hard/almost impossible to turn the steering wheel. It is most pronounced when turning into or out of a parking space but will also sometimes occur when pulling out from a stop sign into traffic and when turning onto other streets.

At low speeds 5-20 mph power steering is not working/very hard to turn left or right! very dangerous situation for anyone who owns a Traverse!!!!.

They are going from recommending replacing the transmission to rack to steering pumps etc. Let's not wait until lives are lost over this as we have seen in the past! something should be done immediately to rectify this problem. If multiple service bulletins have been issued then you are aware there is a problem. Someone please do the right thing!.

When driving at slower rates of speed I keep loosing power steering. Especially when stopped trying to make a turn or trying to park in parking lots. Very frustrating.

The contact had to apply force to the steering wheel in order to steer the vehicle. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. Power steering stiffens when parking or going around curbs at low speeds. Almost hit vehicles in a parking garage caused by this issue. This issue has been occurring since the Traverse had 52k miles.

The power steering stops working, especially at lower speeds. When making a turn, the steering stiffens up and make it very hard to turn. We have owned this vehicle for 2 years and it has been in the dealership for steering related issues 4 times. At low speeds the power steering stops working, making it hard to make the slightest turn. More than once we have almost been hit by oncoming traffic at the end of our driveway because we couldn't turn sharp enough. At first the dealership said it was part of a recall, but after fixing it 3 times they decided the problem wasn't part of the recall and charged us $1400. One week later and the car was doing the same thing. We are taking the vehicle in again. I have filed an official complaint with chevy, we'll see if that does any good.

While driving at a lower speed and usually while turning into a parking space, my steering wheel locks up and does not turn. This happens while turning both directions, left and right. I literally have to plan my trip to my destination according to my steering wheel. I can not park between cars in a parking lot. I no longer allow to my daughter to drive me car due to the steering problem. I then began reading all the complaints concerning this issue. I have always been a Chevrolet customer, along with my parents. Chevrolet should have issued a recall months ago according to all documented problems. I also read there is a court case on this issue. I will need to get my steering fixed as I no longer trust my car driving and parking. I was hoping there was a recall on this steering issue.

2010 Chevrolet Traverse transmission problem while driving the the vehicle its not changing gears at times and it slips. At times when it does not slips, it starts to make a loud muffler sound while driving and my foot is on the gas and its like forcing the vehicle to move. In order to stop the sound and slip, I sometime have to place car on park and then put on drive to re adjust. Sometimes it works and sometime it does not. Took the car to my local mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and state that there were alot of codes for the transmission which is unusual for a transmission that new(for a 2010). I then contacted a chevy dealer who state that there is no complaint regarding transmission. I believe this vehicle is unsafe to drive. Please help as I have two young children that is on the vehicle with me on a daily basis. This issue sometimes happen and some time it does not. The steering wheel of the vehicle also makes a sound when turning. The ac blows, but the from vent only blow air from the bottom and not through the vents. I don't know if this is part of the issue or a different issue.

I took the vehicle into the gm dealership for an unrelated problem and the technician "discovered" a faulty/leaking steering gear box. . . . Totally replaced at a cost of $1386. Now, following online research, I realize that this is a very common problem and gm would appear to be circumventing reporting and a recall by having individuals "pay for the fix". . . . . I want to document this complaint and my personal encumberance of the repair costs. . . . The discussion online points to a common and dangerous problem that we had not "yet" experienced, but according to the technician, may have had a dangerous encounter at any time!.

The vehicle had been making a high pitched squeaking noise for about a week but only when I slowed to a stop and began to speed up. Today as I slowed to make a turn the power steering went out. Because I was about thirty miles from home I had no choice but to drive it home. When I was on main roads going about 55mph, the problem seemed to be going away, but each time I slowed to make a turn, the vehicle's power steering would go out. I went online and found that this was a common complaint for chevy Traverse owners and that they all seem to be occurring around 70,000 miles. With all the controversy over the millions of gm vehicles recalled for power steering problems resulting in accidents I am very upset that these vehicles were not among them.

I was pulling into a parking place when the car just would not turn. The power steering went completely out. I almost hit the car already parked and the gentleman getting out of the passenger side of the car. I profusely apologized and backed the car out of the general area. I then moved to the back of the parking lot to try to figure out what had happened. When the car operated at normal speed, there was no issue with the steering. When the car operated at the speed of approximately 5 mph, the power steering went completely out. When I looked on the internet, I saw the many people who were experiencing the same hazard. I am extremely happy that my wife was not driving our four children in the car. At the time, I was driving with three of the children and I was extremely shaken by the entire situation. I am hoping that someone can explain why a defect such as this was not recalled or, at the least, placed on a public knowledge bank. It is a very dangerous issue that should be public knowledge. I seriously think the public should have knowledge of this coming from the actual dealership with, at the least, a phone call or letter informing of the hazard.

When attempting to steer/turn at low level of speeds usually less than 5mph the steering is very stiff and requires a lot of effort to turn the vehicle. I also recently felt my steering lock up while merging onto the freeway going at a rate of 50-60 mph.

When making left or right turns the steering wheel will stiffen making completing turns very difficult. A couple of times I had to make complete stops to avoid hitting vehicles or going into a ditch. Driving down a two lane highway. Needed to pass car in front of us doing 40mph in a 60. Signaled over into oncoming traffic lane, passed over, sped up, and signaled to transfer back into original lane. During transfer, power steering stopped, forcing me to pull harder than normal to move the vehicle over. Once the maneuver was almost complete, power steering returned, causing me to over correct right, then needing to correct back left. The quick maneuver caused my passenger to hit their head on their window. From that moment on, power steering only works when the accelerator is being depressed. When you are idle, coasting, etc. , power steering is not present and requires excessive force to steer car. Called dealership today to get it looked at. I assume it might be related to special coverage adjustment #14329, but not sure.

We have been having trouble turning at slow speeds. Almost ran into another car head on because the car wouldn't turn. Ask our dealer service center and of course they said they never heard of anyone having problem. That we need a new power steering rack at $1400. 00. Funny that this web site has tons. In today's world - where customer service should be top of the line it is at the bottom. No wonder people buy foreign cars.

We have owned our 2010 Traverse for a few years now. The steering problem has gotten horrible for the past 6 months. We now live in spain and as a military member I can't just go out and buy a brand new car. Cheverlet owners and board members need to come together and get this problem fixed. I think it will have to take a person to die in a car accident for them to ever give a damn about this issue that they have with one of their top selling cars. I love my Traverse but I have tired of pouring money into this common problem I am starting to notice that everyone has. I started to do research and on every online site people are having horrible problems with the steering. I really need someone to take a deep look into this problem and their ceo's and board members need to do a major recall on the Traverse platform and have this problem looked at.

I was driving home from florida back to indiana when I pulled off the interstate to realize my power steering was not working. The steering was so difficult I didn't think I could make the turn. My family of five had a very scary ride home. We paid a big price for this chevy and didn't expect major problems at only 60,000 miles. This may be our last chevy purchase.

I was driving and I heard the check engine alert (3 dings). The warning said service traction control service stabilitrak. After that, the car would take longer and I had to press a lot harder on the gas to accelerate. There are about 3 forums which all include complaints like this however the dealer is saying they will not recall the throttle body which is the part that they are replacing. The throttle body is also in several other GMC vehicles such as the acadia.

The past few days the steering on my 2010 Traverse has been locking up at slow speeds. This locking of the steering wheel is happening more frequently and makes it impossible to turn. It occurs when you are trying to make a turn at slow speeds. While trying to turn at intersections or into parking spaces you have to power the wheel to turn and make several attempts. You can also hear the steering gear box winding very loudly.

I am having trouble turning the wheel when trying to make u turns or entering parking spaces. Don't notice it until I'm slowing down and making a turn. It feels like it is catching and my wheels are going to lock up. Afraid to drive with my 3 kids in the car. It happens everyday.
