High pitched squeal/squeaky noise coming from the steering column when turning either left or right at all forward speeds, reverse and stationary. My local dealership where I purchased the vehicle new says this is a problem with the "rack and pinion assembly" and has been a recall item on 2009 & 2010 Traverses, but not on the 2011-2013. They examined the vehicle (for a cost of $39. 95) and said they could repair it for $435. 54, but said it would not be a problem to drive it as is until it gets worse of affects the steering operation. They have done 2 such repairs on 2011 models. I believe that as this is happening at 29 months (since newly purchased by myself) and at such a low mileage to have steering issues, I would think this must be a persistent design/engineering defect. I hope the NHTSA and saferar. Gov would initiate a recall. My wife drives 140 mile trips often to visit our daughter's family and our grandchildren often ride with her in the Traverse and we have driven the Traverse to myrtle beach, kitty hawk, nc, pennsylvania and mississippi and I am concerned for my family's safety. Chevrolet USA should step up to correct the problem at their cost. I have noted one other report of this steering problem on this website and those who my dealership said paid for the fix on their Traverses. There are certain to be many more who haven't reported the issue to you and I urge you to initiate the recall. Thank you.

For months and months I heard a noise from the steering section. . . Like it needed oil. We checked the fluid and noticed it was low. We have to repeat the fluid every month or so. I was driving and all of a sudden my steering became stuck. Now I need $1000+ repairs for a vehicle that is only 3 years old w/ 40,000 miles. This is unfair.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that when making a turn at low speeds, the power steering made a loud noise and the vehicle stalled. The dealer was made aware of the failure who advised the contact to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was 44,000 and the current mileage was 45,000.
My truck kept making clicking noises and the power steering kept feeling stiff. It continuously made noise when turning the wheels.
Loud thumping noise when turning the steering wheel. Sounded like something fell out of the front end of the car. Car dealership replaced rack and pinion and bled power steering and set toe. Found noise traced to internal rack failure which caused clunk when turned back and forth. Repaired 3/2011.

When my vehicle was 2 years old and had approximately 35,900 miles, I started hearing a low whining noise in the steering column whenever the steering wheel was turned. The intermittent noise continued, so I had the vehicle serviced on 2/18/11 with mileage of 36,379. The dealership was unable to duplicate the noise. The noise continued getting worse; became louder and constant. I had the vehicle serviced on 8/24/11 with mileage of 44,248. The dealership determined the steering gear was failing and needed replacement. Since the vehicle was no longer under warranty, I had to pay $1212. 80. It's very disheartening to have a repair of this magnitude on a 2 year old vehicle with low mileage. I purchased this Traverse brand new to avoid the costly repairs of older vehicles. Apparently, I made a bad decision. This vehicle has already had 3 safety recalls and the steering gear should be made the 4th.
Vehicle has always had a rubbing noise coming from the steering column. I have complained multiple times over the 4 years that I have owned the vehicle. Dealer has made minor adjustments to the base of the column and also changed the steering gear. The problem has come back with increasing effort to steer the car. Now the dealership states the car is not under warranty and 12 months have elapsed since the replacement.
Steering wheel whining noise when turning. Pulsating and a stiff turning in a parking lot or when going slow. Dealer is now going to replace the steering rack.
Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while turning at various speeds, a whining noise was heard as steering became difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the power steering pump, rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000. The VIN was unavailable. Kmj.

Steering made noise within first year of purchase. Was told nothing was wrong with vehicle after each scheduled service. Steering became stiffer and noisier over time. Paid $1,100 to replace the steering housing and other related parts in July, 2015.
My stabilitrak has been going in and out for years with no issues. I had it checked but told it was ok. Now it has started stalling on me. And I was slightly rear ended last night on vacation. I called the Chevrolet 1 800 # and told no recall on this. However on line is hundreds of issues with this model. So over the last 2 weeks it has been going frequently. The steering is just making noises and crunching sounds when turning.
