This morning, the steering system went out on me, all of the sudden while driving down the road the steering stop working and was unable to control vehicle. Lights came on on the dash. Telling me that to be careful, going into safe mode problem with steering column. This was a very horrifying moment, as the truck was doing all over the place and was unable to take steering control. I was blessed to be alone on the street and manage to side park on the curve. I cannot image if this would happen in the freeway in high speed. Now I am afraid, this safety issue must be addressed by the chevy company/dealer as it is a safety issue and a high risk where lives can be lost!!!!.

I bought the car in August of last year and drove it for about 3 days before it started giving me problems. First incident I was driving my children home from the hairdresser and the car completely went out us on the highway, after repeated attempts for a half hour or so I was able to start it and drive it back home very slowly. . This happened twice I went to get it diagnosed and codes came up for crank shaft sensor and O2 sensor, before I could even get that fixed more problems came up, the steering wheel began to become stiff and almost impossible to turn, while picking my son up from school I was trying to pull away from the curb in the drop off spot and almost hit another car and a child because the steering wheel stiffened up on me!!! I was told I would need an entire steering rack!!! . . . Also the key has gotten stuck in the ignition and wouldn't start and I had to have it towed to a mechanic for that as well. Driving up hill one day I lost power that made it seem like it was stuck in low, then we lost reverse altogether as well as the ability to climb hills. I got the transmission repaired, barely made it home before it started doing the exact same thing, no reverse and won't go up hills, so I had to get it towed back to the shop to fix it once again, now I find out that the computer went bad as well and was causing the car to perform in neutral. This car has given me nothing but problems since I bought it! it is very dangerous to be on the road! I don't understand how they're even still in circulation!! this is by far the worst experience I've ever had with a vehicle! upon doing research online I seen that there were hundreds of people with these cars experiencing the same problems. Something has to be done!! I had the car almost a year and only got about a week's worth of use!!.

The high pressure power steering lines in this vehicle are leaking due the proximity of the power steering lines to the coolant lines. Over time they rub against each other and eventually fail resulting in a loss of power steering fluid and a loss of power steering. Gm has known about this since technical service bulletin 13-02-32-001e was issued in December 2017, but has failed to notify the customer. This is a safety issue that gm needs to take care of.

Transmission shifting erratic. Rpm is high and shifting is delayed. Delay in acceleration when car is in movement. Parking gear sensor is not working. Shows on dash to put car in park. When car is already in park.
The sway bar/control arm broke up near the engine without cause. It appears metal fatigue or manufacture defect caused same. It's failure led to cv joint and other damage. This was discovered during a changing of tires. I don't know how long it had been broken as no obvious signs were readily apparent and my wife said it drove normal. There was no accident or other impact that would have caused same.
Airbags light turns off & on. Then my vehicle will reset itself while driving. All gauges & lights turn off in vehicle & I have to pull over, turn the car on & off for it to work. Vehicle airbag will also make a popping sound when airbag light turns on & off. Vehicle turns off while driving & fuel light will say full then drop to empty. Power steering will go out & turn back on randomly.

I have now been told that my rack and pinion is leaking by 3-4 different mechanics. In doing a google search, I see that through various years of the chevy Traverse, the rack and pinion leaking and needing to be replaced at a high cost (and also being a big safety risk to not replace) is a very common issue in the Traverse.

Stopped at a red light in left lane of a two way highway. When light turned green car stalled out. Steering locked and brakes locked. Got truck to side of road. Lights and radio still worked. Truck would not turn over or start. Dashboard was fully lit. Had towed to dealer. According to dealer it was starter and flywheel.
While driving 65 to 70 mph on the freeway, vehicle suddenly shudders and dash state "engine reduce speed" and "service stabilitrak" and "service traction control". It has happen about twice a month 6 months back. Took it to the dealership, no code so they couldn't find the issue even though I should them multiple videos. Today the vehicle shut off while driving 65 mph this morning in the fast lane. Luckily my wife put the emergency lights on and we wasn't hit from behind but cats did brake fast and almost hit us. So far vehicle has left me on the side on the road 3 times today. Errors codes that are coming up is p1682 and c042-00. It also states replace ignition relay switch which I had done 3 times already. Once this happens I have to wait 10 minutes, then restart, then shut off, then reatart, then shut off then restart until to vehicle starts up how it should start up with no hesitation or shaking. Then I can make it home my fear is my wife will be driving and car shuts off while driving on the freeway with the kids. I know this issues was recalled with the Traverse 2009 and 2010 and some other vehicle gm made.

When driving the vehicle will have a sudden lose of engine power with no warning signs. It will say “engine power reduced” then say “service stabilitrac”, and “traction control off”. This morning when it happened I was turning into a parking lot to drop my kids off and almost hit a sign because the engine completely stalled mid turn. I have also had it happen to me on major highways.
Steering gave out my mechanic put on new pump took it out for a test drive and it still didn’t correct it . Put another pump on same thing . He doesn’t know what to do it is a programming problem the 2013 Traverse is having from all the research I have done . From what I read very dangerous problem.
On Thursday 9/9/21, I found my car's alarm going off while parked in a parking lot. I was able to silence the alarm and enter the vehicle and turn it on. As I was driving toward the exit of the parking lot the windshield wipers went on, on their own and I was unable to turn them off. Then I lost control of my steering, several warnings and alerts went off on the dashboard and the car powered off in the middle of the road without any warning. Shortly after was able to turn the car on again and reverse and get it into a spot in the parking lot where again I lost steering, several alerts came on the dashboard and the car powered down again. I had my two young children in the car and we could have been hit, if this occurred on a highway this could have been deadly! I was able to start the car again, drove it around the parking lot safely for a few minutes and then the incident occurred a third time in the exit lane of the parking lot. We called for a tow truck. The car would not turn on again for several hours. When it did turn on it was moved to a safe location where it powered off spontaneously a 4th time. When the car was picked up by the tow truck the following morning the car alarm was going off again and the doors were locking and unlocking spontaneously on their own. Onstar sent a diagnostic report indicating an issue with the engine and transmission system. The vehicle was towed to millenium Chevrolet in hempstead. They were not able to check the car until Monday 9/13/21. They replaced the battery, but were unable to identify the source of the problem. After the battery was replaced, we were alerted that the horn was not working and the doors were locking and unlocking spontaneously.
I know there are recalls on other chevy Traverse for air bags. My air bag light goes off every so often, I’m just waiting for the day for it to go off in my face while driving. My power steering pressure pump has been leaking, no longer have power steering, makes driving very difficult/unsafe. I’ve heard of many other Traverse vehicles with the same problem, but why is it not being addressed?.
Replaced the transmission in 2018, transmission went out again in 2021. Power steering also had to be replaced in 2021. The initial transmission repair was covered under warranty but not the subsequent transmission nor the power steering were covered under warranty. There are less than 95,000 miles on the car.
Power steering pump and high pressure hose gave out needing to be replaced. Gm has manufactured a replacement pump that is superior to the original obviously noticing that it was not going to hold up.

The steering on vehicle is intermittently nearly impossible to turn. Gm has a service bulletin that addresses problem and extends warranty. My vehicle is beyond the warranty time but still under the mileage. I called gm and the will not offer any assistance of warranty or cost share. This should be a recall as it’s a serious safety issue!! there’s likely been injuries and deaths because of this very problem. You never know when it may act up and when it does it’s extremely dangerous. Gm customer service reference # 9-6768504646. Let me know if there’s something you can do to help and/or if not. Thanks.
The power steering pump went out on my 2016 chevy Traverse which has 34,700 miles on it. At low rpms the pump would intermittently fail and lock up the steering wheel. This means that when decelerating and attempting to avoid an accident my power steering could have failed causing me to be unable to avoid an otherwise avoidable accident. I was close to hitting another car in a parking lot when I was turning into a parking spot and the power steering failed, but I was able to slam on the brakes in time. I was able to bring it into a mechanic and get it fixed within two days. They were able to test the system and replicate the issues I was having. $1060. 05 later I have a new oem pump installed. The mechanic informed me that the pump he installed was a superseded part by gm. So gm knows it's a junk part and aren't using it anymore but don't care about the customers who bought the junk part originally. The bad pump has been disposed of by the mechanic. I paid for this out of pocket, and did not show this to the police, insurance, or manufacture. There were no warning lights or other indications that the steering was going out, I was simply driving home from work and noticed an intermittent lose of power steering on 6/2/21. I was able to get the vehicle home and fixed by the mechanic the next day 6/3/21.
The power steering started to become non-existent at very low speeds. The wheel is extremely difficult to turn when coming in and out of parking spaces or turning around parking lots or tight spaces. This is very dangerous as the only time the ps can work is to speed up which is impossible when maneuvering around parking garages. It is now a permanent problem with my 2016 Traverse and I need it fixed ASAP but I don't see any recall for it. I see several other similar complaints on the same 2016 chevy Traverse or within the same year model. Gm should issue a recall for this issue now before any serious damage or injury occurs!.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the power steering assist failed and the vehicle became difficult to steer. The contact stated that the power steering pump was leaking. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with the power steering pump and the rack and pinion needing to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 127,305.
Vehicle is hard to turn at low speeds. (power steering) higher speeds it steers normally. They apparently know about the issue.
I've owned my Traverse for slightly longer than 1 year. I can hear a whiny sound coming from the steering wheel area and it is becoming harder and harder to turn the wheel while I'm going slow. . . As in I can't get it into or out of tight areas such as parking spots. Put in half bottle of fluid. . . . Didn't help. Is there a recall?.

Making loud sounds when turning wheel and in motion I've only had this car for 4 months bought of dealership and it has more than 3 issues related to the power steer.
Was driving fine and all of a sudden with no warning car would not go faster than 15 mph. Check engine light came on then traction control went off. Across the dash it said "service traction control, service stabilitrack and reduced engine power" the car started shifting between 2 different gears making it extremely scary to try driving to a safe spot with 3 young kids.
Tl- the contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated her husband was driving at 50 mph and when vehicles a head of him started to slam on their brakes the contact husband then depressed on the brake pedal but the steering wheel and the brakes on the vehicle locked which caused the vehicle to slid into crash into the rear end of a utility truck in front of him . The vehicle then caught on fire. The air bag did deployed. No warning light illuminated on the vehicle. The fire was extinguish by the utility truck driver on the scene. No one injured. No medical treatment was needed at the scene a a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a impound where then the insurance company had the vehicle towed where they plan to inspect the vehicle. The local dealer nor the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 7000. Vw.

A year a go the steering at low speed would act like the power steering just stop working, very hard to turn. But not all the time, but now it more often. When a kid ran out between two parked cars I went to turn and hit the brakes the steering went out. Luckily he stop in time, but after that I needed it repaired. Went to gm web site and was amazed of all the people with this, called chevy dealer about repairs and was told its my problem and it would be $ 2100. 00 to replace a faulty power steering pump, how is this not a safety problem. Try turning in a parking space and the wheel locks up its hard not to hit the car beside you. With no warning.
I was driving home from work when all of a sudden I couldn't turn my steering wheel. The power steering just gave out and my car only has 49k miles. It is nearly impossible to pull in and out of my driveway and other places that require a low speed turn.
Power steering does not work at low speeds 90% of the time, my wife can't drive the car ( very dangerous situation ). Parking has no power steering at all, at 10 mph steering control comes back.
The vehicle randomly turns off and on the traction control system. At times, the vehicle also goes into "reduced power mode" while traveling at highway speeds. When the reduced power mode occurs, loss of power steering and power brakes also occur making the vehicle difficult to control until it is stopped. After restarting the vehicle, the reduced power mode and traction control/stabilitrac conditions go away until it randomly triggers again. The reduced power mode and traction control/stabilitrac errors may occur either while moving or while stationary. The events trigger random engine codes, of which I have several on record, and those engine codes typically have nothing to do with the traction control system. Additionally, on occasion, the front passenger seat belt and airbag lights alert to buckle the belt althought there is no one or nothing in that seat. This vehicle is equipped with the same iginition switch that was recalled in other gm vehicles experiencing similar problems, however, this vehicle was not included in recall. The most recent incident was 10/02/2020, when the vehicle suddenly went into reduce power mode, and nearly causing me to miss a negotiating a curve in the road.
Was driving on my way to work and when I turned into the parking lot of the school I heard a loud pop and it sounded like I had ran over a stick, however, when I got out and looked there was nothing under my car or in the parking lot around my car even. I took it to my local dealer and they found that the sway bar had broken in half. This is going to be a $2,000+ repair for a solid piece of metal that shouldn't snap into like a twig. This is very unsafe and could have been extremely dangerous if I had been driving anywhere else except for the school where I was going slow.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that after taking the vehicle to ourisman Chevrolet located at 4400 branch avenue, marlow heights, MD 20748, (301)423-4000) for brake repairs, the contact was informed that there was an issue with the steering. The dealership stated that the steering system needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and reached out to the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000.
Besides my ac going out 3x since I got it now my power steering isn't working. Tried to get it fixed but nothing is working. Heard from the other dealerships that the same problem is happening to this model and make and have to get 6-8 pumps to get it fixed. This is ridiculous to have so many problems with a brand new car. It is my first new car and I've had a lot of used cars and never had this problem.
The power steering stops working randomly. It happens when I'm at a very low speed and trying to turn into a parking space for example. Once you give the vehicle gas it sometimes comes back.
