36 Steering problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 10/05/2023

Power steering assist warning comes up. Becomes very doiccicult to steer and also caused stability control to be turned off. Extremely dangersous as my car could have rolled and killed me or my passengers. And appears to be a major issue, as what I have found online and manufactirer/dealer dont care. Please do something before people start dying/crashing because of this. 2nd concern - shifter. . . . . . Starts refysing to go into park. Eventually killing the battery. Switch is all messed up and alot of people have hte same issue an ddealer/manufactrurere refuse to do anything. . . They will fix it, at owners cost, for 700 bucks, which it only took me 30 minutes, not 2. 5 hrs like they said.

38 Steering problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 09/29/2023

On September 29, I took my 2019 Traverse to the dealer for its annual state inspection for virginia at radley Chevrolet in fredericksburg. The dealer failed the car due to needing a rear toe link replacement. The dealer told me that this is common in the 2019 Traverse and are replacing quite a few of them. The cost for the repair is going to be about $600. It only has 41,500 miles and has been a very dependable vehicle. What concerns me is that reading other online forums, many owners are lamenting the same thing being told that this is common amongst the Traverse, yet there are no recalls on it. There are a few other gm models that have a recall for the rear suspension, but I don't understand why the Traverse isn't one of them. I am asking for a review of this to see how many toe links have been repaired on the Traverse, specifically among 2019 models, compared to how many have been sold. If a recall is decided to be implemented, it would save a lot of people the hassle of being blindsided or at least thinking they are being scammed by the dealer. If there will be a recall, I would then seek reimbursement from gm as this should have been done long ago and just replaced on all vehicles, not just when it's being taken in for an inspection. Thank you very much. Perrin palistrant.

39 Steering problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 08/02/2023

This vehicle is dangerous. Looks great on the outside but horrible on the inside under the hood! since my son bought one for me it’s had problems with engine revving and not shifting gears, and air conditioner continually going out even after repairs, and power steering leaks. I kept taking it to repair and oddly no technician anywhere could help! read the reviews and watch the youtubes! this vehicle (all years) should be stripped from the market and considered under lemon law no matter the age! the culmination of my problems happened when leaving town, entering highway and accelerating and clicking cruise control! immediately the car revved past 7 rpms and out of control! I had all I could do to stop it - then it died completely! the tow truck driver was also in an unsafe situation with many cars passing at high speed when he had to put special lifts on the back wheels! scary! towed to local chevy dealer and without giving us the computer codes and no actual written estimate for repairs, they bluntly said metal shavings in engine and possibly a bearing and $11,500. And it’s typical for transmission problems and steering so up to $18,500! really?! and if no one could ever detect and fix it before, how can they now? all this with the added comment, we can’t guarantee once we get into it that it will run properly and not need more repairs! lemon! this is a very unsafe vehicle with notorious problems all in the face of competing with looks of other competitor cars! I praise god I was alone when this happened and no other passengers. If you love your life, family, and others, definitely join me in this recall / removal from market effort. Don’t take my opinion, read the huge number of complaints by many other owners and past owners of any and every chevy Traverse! horrifying! thank you for reading and acting! god bless you!.

41 Steering problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 06/07/2023

No power steering at low speed . Makes it dangerous to turn sharp corners. Almost impossible to park in a parking spot if there’s other vehicles. So I park way out away from vehicles . I have had two power steering pumps and lines replaced . And still have the same issue. .

43 Steering problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 05/24/2023

Steering wheel randomly gets tight and difficult to turn. Eventually gets to a point where it won't turn. This doesn't occur all the time but randomly. No warning lights go on. Took to mechanic. Didn't happen to them when tested. But they flushed steering fluid and refilled. Taking the car back home. Again steering wheel got tight and difficult to turn. Got to a point where you couldn't turn again.

44 Steering problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/27/2023

Components related to timing chain failed, and vehicle is currently available with plans to sell to a salvage yard by 10/25/24. My 9 year old and I were at risk of collision when the vehicle failed. I was driving approximately 70-75 mph when we started to lose power. At 65 mph, I managed to cross 2 lanes of highway traffic and stopped on the shoulder. I turned off my vehicle and waited several minutes, hoping it would help reset or cool off a component or something. I had to try a couple of times before it started, and I attempted to drive as safely as I could, made it to 60 mph before it stopped running completely. I had to pull hard on the steering wheel to get to the shoulder again, only this time, the shoulder was pinched off in front of us and around a small blind spot behind us. I had my daughter move to the side closer to the cement barrier while waiting for a tow truck. She became very nervous about how close some of the other vehicles got. Afterwards, the error codes indicated several components pointing to a timing chain problem. I had the timing chain repaired around April or may of 2023 by a certified mechanic. I watched the oil life percentage and oil temperature gauge consistently. Everything indicated as normal, but I had difficulty pulling out the dipstick to check the oil level. Since it was hard to get a good reading, I tried to add some oil and recheck. The oil cap was nearly impossible to open, so I decided to wait for an oil tech to do it. Around 40-50% oil life, I had planned to have the oil changed. In spite of my efforts to maintain proper oil quality, the oil cap had to be opened with a wrench. Smoke rose out and dried out oil residue lined the inner walls. It was about a quart low. I don’t drive hard on it and it had only been around 3,000 miles between oil changes. It had been one year since the timing chain was replaced. Error codes remain and the vehicle runs rough if it stays on long enough after much effort to start it.

45 Steering problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/21/2023

I had just got gas and the vehicle took longer than usual to start/turn over. I was leaving the store and sitting at the stop sign that is on a small incline. When I proceeded to go, my truck shook a few times, cut off, and I had no control of the vehicle. The brake pedal would not push down and my vehicle began rolling backwards. There was a car behind me that started honking his horn because I was going to run into him. I pushed the start/turn off ignition button and tried the brakes again and it worked. I had to sit there for about 5 minutes to get myself together because I was terrified to take off again. About a week later I was pulling out from my subdivision and the truck started alarming to service the stabilitrak as I was pulling out. At the moment, the steering wheel became almost impossible to turn and the car didn't want to go! I had several cars coming my way and my vehicle was in the middle of the road. Thank goodness the cars slowed down and my vehicle decided to start working. About a month later it started sounding like a go-kart. I had the vehicle checked out by a mechanic and I was told I needed a new battery and my exhaust pipe had a hole. I bought the battery and the $1200 pipe and had it installed. Now a different exhaust pipe has a hole and the part is on back order because apparently this is a frequent reccuring issue but no recall. I never feel safe driving my truck and it is a 2018 and not yet at 100,000 miles, that is pretty sad! the vehicle is available for inspection.

46 Steering problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/08/2023

The steering pump is faulty and the car only has 56,00o miles on it. I have read other people’s same issue on the internet. It is extremely dangerous because you cannot control the steering on the car and you could possibly injure yourself or someone else. 04/08/2023.

47 Steering problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 03/24/2023

The esc failed in just 11 months of owning the car. It also said that reduced steering so drive carefully. Purchased the car 3/30/2022 only has 8574 miles on it. This car is a lemon.

48 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 03/24/2023

Power steering pump in the car had low pressure causing the steering wheel to barely turn or have a hard time turning the wheel. This put me and my family at risk while driving because when making turns it would feel like it was locking up which almost would cause accidents not being able to turn the wheel all the way to make the turn. I ended up having to pay 1309 to have a new power steering pump put in.

49 Steering problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 02/18/2023

Two items: item 1. Transmission switched to neutral by itself traveling at 65 mph. At about 5-6 seconds after the incident, transmission resumed with no further problem. This has happened 3 times. First time was mid 2022. Second and third times happened in late 2022. Appeared to be an intermittent problem. Took to dealership. It happened to a mechanic who drove the vehicle. Dealership thought they fixed the problem. A dealership mechanic, while addressing item number 2 below in 3rd week of April 2023, experienced the motor going into neutral. They had replaced the ignition switch to possibly fix item #2, and were test driving the car, when during the test drives, the motor went into neutral by itself two separate test drives. Item 2. While driving at highway speeds on a freeway in mid February 2023, the engine stopped (speedometer and rpm gauges went to zero). The whole dashboard went black. Power steering was lost. Was lucky to be able to pull over to side of road and stop. Turning ignition key off and on did not restart the car. Took ignition key out, replaced the ignition key, and the car started right up and we were able to continue our journey. This has happened 3 times total so far since February 2023. It has happened at random times. The dealership has not seen any computer feedback to indicate what is wrong for item 1 or item 2 here. So now, there is a new ignition switch, and we are hoping item 2 will not happen on a freeway, or on a crowded road, or anywhere!. I feel fortunate we had a way to pull off to the side of the road. If I was in a middle lane, I don’t know what could have happened. It could have been a pileup accident.

50 Steering problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 12/25/2022

I was driving at approximately 30mph on a road the traction control/stability track light came on and my car lost almost all power. It went from 30 to about 5mph. Thankfully I was on a slower road and close to my house so I was able to get home. If I would have been on a highway I could have been killed. I quick google search showed thousands of other complaints with the same problem, my question is why is nothing being done. Are they waiting for a certain number of deaths??.

51 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 12/01/2022

Rack and pinion steering is failing at 66,000 miles on a 2016 chevy Traverse. This is low mileage for a vehicle to lose this function and a safety concern should the steering fail at speed and needs to be investigated. There are other complaints by chevy owners for the same problem across several model years of this vehicle.

52 Steering problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 11/01/2022

On 10-31-2022 my chevy app sent email that my vehicle was experiencing starter engine issues and that my vehicle could not start. Except my vehicle was starting and being driven at the time. Shortly after that my vehicle gave notification by dashboard that my steering assist was reduced and to drive carefully but I am not aware of having that feature or how it was reduced in the first place. On 11-1-2022 my vehicle was being reversed into parking and the camera view displayed the scene as if my course was clear but I was not and the vehicle collided with a pole. I’m not sure how this is even possible but I no longer feel this vehicle is safe for me and my family.

53 Steering problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 10/12/2022

Vehicle steering wheel vibrates when it's on and on park . The light to dashboard , radio , is dim then as I drive it might turn bright then back to dim .

54 Steering problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 10/10/2022

This morning, the steering system went out on me, all of the sudden while driving down the road the steering stop working and was unable to control vehicle. Lights came on on the dash. Telling me that to be careful, going into safe mode problem with steering column. This was a very horrifying moment, as the truck was doing all over the place and was unable to take steering control. I was blessed to be alone on the street and manage to side park on the curve. I cannot image if this would happen in the freeway in high speed. Now I am afraid, this safety issue must be addressed by the chevy company/dealer as it is a safety issue and a high risk where lives can be lost!!!!.

55 Steering problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 09/03/2022

I bought the car in August of last year and drove it for about 3 days before it started giving me problems. First incident I was driving my children home from the hairdresser and the car completely went out us on the highway, after repeated attempts for a half hour or so I was able to start it and drive it back home very slowly. . This happened twice I went to get it diagnosed and codes came up for crank shaft sensor and O2 sensor, before I could even get that fixed more problems came up, the steering wheel began to become stiff and almost impossible to turn, while picking my son up from school I was trying to pull away from the curb in the drop off spot and almost hit another car and a child because the steering wheel stiffened up on me!!! I was told I would need an entire steering rack!!! . . . Also the key has gotten stuck in the ignition and wouldn't start and I had to have it towed to a mechanic for that as well. Driving up hill one day I lost power that made it seem like it was stuck in low, then we lost reverse altogether as well as the ability to climb hills. I got the transmission repaired, barely made it home before it started doing the exact same thing, no reverse and won't go up hills, so I had to get it towed back to the shop to fix it once again, now I find out that the computer went bad as well and was causing the car to perform in neutral. This car has given me nothing but problems since I bought it! it is very dangerous to be on the road! I don't understand how they're even still in circulation!! this is by far the worst experience I've ever had with a vehicle! upon doing research online I seen that there were hundreds of people with these cars experiencing the same problems. Something has to be done!! I had the car almost a year and only got about a week's worth of use!!.

57 Steering problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/13/2022

The high pressure power steering lines in this vehicle are leaking due the proximity of the power steering lines to the coolant lines. Over time they rub against each other and eventually fail resulting in a loss of power steering fluid and a loss of power steering. Gm has known about this since technical service bulletin 13-02-32-001e was issued in December 2017, but has failed to notify the customer. This is a safety issue that gm needs to take care of.

58 Steering problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

59 Steering problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 03/18/2022

The sway bar/control arm broke up near the engine without cause. It appears metal fatigue or manufacture defect caused same. It's failure led to cv joint and other damage. This was discovered during a changing of tires. I don't know how long it had been broken as no obvious signs were readily apparent and my wife said it drove normal. There was no accident or other impact that would have caused same.

60 Steering problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse

61 Steering problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 02/08/2022

I have now been told that my rack and pinion is leaking by 3-4 different mechanics. In doing a google search, I see that through various years of the chevy Traverse, the rack and pinion leaking and needing to be replaced at a high cost (and also being a big safety risk to not replace) is a very common issue in the Traverse.

62 Steering problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 01/07/2022

Stopped at a red light in left lane of a two way highway. When light turned green car stalled out. Steering locked and brakes locked. Got truck to side of road. Lights and radio still worked. Truck would not turn over or start. Dashboard was fully lit. Had towed to dealer. According to dealer it was starter and flywheel.

63 Steering problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 12/02/2021

While driving 65 to 70 mph on the freeway, vehicle suddenly shudders and dash state "engine reduce speed" and "service stabilitrak" and "service traction control". It has happen about twice a month 6 months back. Took it to the dealership, no code so they couldn't find the issue even though I should them multiple videos. Today the vehicle shut off while driving 65 mph this morning in the fast lane. Luckily my wife put the emergency lights on and we wasn't hit from behind but cats did brake fast and almost hit us. So far vehicle has left me on the side on the road 3 times today. Errors codes that are coming up is p1682 and c042-00. It also states replace ignition relay switch which I had done 3 times already. Once this happens I have to wait 10 minutes, then restart, then shut off, then reatart, then shut off then restart until to vehicle starts up how it should start up with no hesitation or shaking. Then I can make it home my fear is my wife will be driving and car shuts off while driving on the freeway with the kids. I know this issues was recalled with the Traverse 2009 and 2010 and some other vehicle gm made.

65 Steering problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 10/21/2021

When driving the vehicle will have a sudden lose of engine power with no warning signs. It will say “engine power reduced” then say “service stabilitrac”, and “traction control off”. This morning when it happened I was turning into a parking lot to drop my kids off and almost hit a sign because the engine completely stalled mid turn. I have also had it happen to me on major highways.

67 Steering problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 09/09/2021

On Thursday 9/9/21, I found my car's alarm going off while parked in a parking lot. I was able to silence the alarm and enter the vehicle and turn it on. As I was driving toward the exit of the parking lot the windshield wipers went on, on their own and I was unable to turn them off. Then I lost control of my steering, several warnings and alerts went off on the dashboard and the car powered off in the middle of the road without any warning. Shortly after was able to turn the car on again and reverse and get it into a spot in the parking lot where again I lost steering, several alerts came on the dashboard and the car powered down again. I had my two young children in the car and we could have been hit, if this occurred on a highway this could have been deadly! I was able to start the car again, drove it around the parking lot safely for a few minutes and then the incident occurred a third time in the exit lane of the parking lot. We called for a tow truck. The car would not turn on again for several hours. When it did turn on it was moved to a safe location where it powered off spontaneously a 4th time. When the car was picked up by the tow truck the following morning the car alarm was going off again and the doors were locking and unlocking spontaneously on their own. Onstar sent a diagnostic report indicating an issue with the engine and transmission system. The vehicle was towed to millenium Chevrolet in hempstead. They were not able to check the car until Monday 9/13/21. They replaced the battery, but were unable to identify the source of the problem. After the battery was replaced, we were alerted that the horn was not working and the doors were locking and unlocking spontaneously.

I know there are recalls on other chevy Traverse for air bags. My air bag light goes off every so often, I’m just waiting for the day for it to go off in my face while driving. I’ve heard of many other Traverse vehicles with the same problem, but why is it not being addressed?.
