1 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 06/03/2019

The check engine light came on showing codes p0018 and p0019, the vehicle will start to idle and the traction controls come on and the vehicle goes into safety mode not able to go above 30 miles/hour. Mechanic stated that it was indicating issues with timing belt, but that it was very common for this vehicle to have issues with timing belt tensioners going bad.

2 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 05/15/2019

2011 chevy Traverse in great condition. Engine stared missing and roughly idling occasionally. Check engine light came on just short of 119000 miles. Auto parts store reported diagnostic code: p008. Googled p008 and message boards stated gm has an extended warranty program for this problem. Went to the local chevy dealer, asked about the coverage up to 120,000 miles since I was almost up to 120,000 miles. Provided the VIN & the dealer said that my vehicle does not qualify for repairs under the program & recommended scheduling service to have it fixed at my expense. Another option was to take my chances. He advised keeping oil level high & clean to extend possible life of the engine & timing chain. Service rep said that he sees this problem on a fairly-regular basis, about 2-4 times per month. A critical failure rate of that for just one dealer is way too high! gm should extend the coverage, especially when this is a known issue! days later I decided I didn't want to re-experience my 2001 Saturn timing chain failed at 67,000 miles while driving 70 mph, nearly caused an accident on the freeway. Had to replace the engine with a re-manufactured engine for approximately $3,000. 00. Due to fatalities resulting from the timing chain failures, Saturn/gm finally decided to recall the affected vehicles or reimburse for replacement engines. I had replaced the engine at my own expense, so I was later reimbursed ~$2,500. 00 by Saturn (gm). With this in mind, I scheduled service for my 2011 Traverse about a week later at the gm dealer. It required pulling the engine, metal shavings cleaned out of engine, guides, tensioners, and timing chain replaced. Cost 2 days labor and parts $2924. 87. Gm should extend covering diagnosed p008 fault repairs, or at the very least, offer an after-failure reimbursement for repairs/replacement due to faulty/stretched timing chains on their engines.

3 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 03/18/2019

I have the cel on reading code p0017. The SUV is starting to idle a bit rougher and I have garaged the vehicle until I can have it serviced. I contacted the dealership regarding the service bulletin 11340 and referencing bulletin 12-06-01-009d for timing chain and tensioner failure and replacement the service tech stated that although they have issues regarding this engine, the year of my Traverse didn't qualify. I then contacted gm. The best they could provide is a case # regarding my complaint and offered to get me the phone # to my nearest dealership. I will have to keep on pressing the issue until the problem is resolved (considering the chevy has 89,000 miles).

4 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 12/20/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse. While driving 25 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact was able to drive home and had the vehicle towed to boucher Chevrolet (located at 1421 e moreland blvd, waukesha, WI 53186, (262) 549-1000). The dealer diagnosed that the oil was low and the timing chain, actuator, tensioner, and crank cam needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure continued. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 109,000.

5 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 11/07/2016

At approximately 92,000 miles I started getting error code p0008 on my 2010 chevy Traverse. The light would come on for a few days, then off for a day or two, until finally it just stayed on all of the time. The acceleration was very poor, and the gas mileage poor as well (compared to what it had previously been getting). I change my oil well before the meter in the car tells me to, usually before 5000 miles. Dealer said the timing chains stretched due to excessively dirty oil, but as stated earlier, I always changed the oil before the meter said to change the oil. Dealer replaced all tensioners and chains and resealed the front cover and refilled fluids. Gm covered 45% of cost even though vehicle was beyond warranty period. For a job that usually would cost about $2300, I paid $1336. I've read that others have had this problem with the 3. 6l v6 on the early model Traverses and other gms with the same engine. I believe that the reason that I got up to 92,000 miles is because I change my oil so regularly. The lack of acceleration was very unsafe for merging into traffic in denver, especially when it first began happening, unexpectedly. Vehicle was having trouble holding speed on hills on fast streets. If problem had gotten worse, vehicle would have not been drivable.

6 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 08/31/2016

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle lost power and the engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. The vehicle was restarted and was able to be driven to the contact's home. The vehicle was taken to eric von schledorn Chevrolet Buick (805 e green bay Ave, saukville, WI 53080, (262) 284-8000) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain and tensioner failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer where they contacted the manufacturer, but no assistance was offered. The approximate failure mileage was 101,847.

7 Timing Tensioner problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/05/2016

"takata recall" this car has been a nightmare from the day we bought it. It has had 4 rack and pinions, the struts replaced, a gear replaced in the steering column, a new power steering pump, a fuel injector, and timing chain repair. Now it is in the shop again for another round of timing chain gone bad and tensioners, as well as now the master brake cylinder is leaking back into the system which I was told will cause my brakes to just no longer work at any given moment. I drive my children in this car, I paid over $25,000. 00 for it and I have put over $8,000. 00 in repairs into it. I am now having to repair the brake issue or chance my family being killed in an accident. While my husband has lost his job in the oil and gas industry. I can't even sale the stupid car, because it is worhtless!!! I am disgusted and disappointed with this vehicle, the manufacturer for doing nothing for their buyers and the fact that there have been no recalls on the brake issue, when there are multitudes of pages on the web of complaints over the same issue.
