Chrysler 200 owners have reported 199 problems related to service brakes (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chrysler 200 based on all problems reported for the 200.
The brake booster corroded and the vacuum lines were damaged due to the corrosion causing the brakes to go out on the freeway. There is an active recall on the brake booster but when brought to Chrysler they state the VIN is listed in canada (I live in indiana in the USA) and not effected yet the part numbers match, there is no water shield that is supposed to be there and Chrysler refused to take care of the issue that I had to spend 750 out of pocket. When I stated the part matched the recalled parts to Chrysler they just said they would send a customer feedback form but there is nothing they can do. I have had my mechanic save the part in case it's needed. I almost crashed on the freeway because my brakes gave out due to a defective part and I'm basically being told to kick rocks.

Since the day I picked up the car from the dealership lot, I have had consistent issues with this vehicle simply operating safely and normally. In arizona, you're legally responsible for a vehicle the moment you sign — even before you drive it off the property — so I was essentially stuck with it. From that point forward, I have been at my dealership nearly every month due to various mechanical and electrical issues. The vehicle has a history of repeated electrical and mechanical failures that affect both safety and basic function. One of the most serious problems is that the car randomly shuts off while driving, including in traffic and at intersections. This happens without warning and creates a serious risk of being hit from behind or losing control of the vehicle. In addition, the car frequently fails to start. It will often require a jump-start just to turn on, but even then, service technicians have told me the battery is not the issue, and in some cases, it doesn’t respond to a jump at all. The problem remains undiagnosed, with technicians saying they cannot pinpoint the cause. The issue appears to be electrical or ignition-related, but no definitive fix has been found. There have also been ongoing problems with the transmission jerking, hesitation during acceleration, and various warning lights coming on, including the battery, check engine, and transmission indicators. These issues began shortly after purchase and have occurred consistently over time. The vehicle has been brought to the dealership numerous times, where they have attempted repairs, but the problems continue. It is not safe to drive and continues to present a major safety hazard due to unexpected shutdowns and unreliable starting. These issues have been acknowledged by the dealer but never resolved, and the vehicle and components are available for inspection upon request.

My car is stuck in drive but won't let me turn my shifter to park. It will not start and I have to undo the battery to get it to shut off . But it won't cranck. It sometimes will slow down for no reason and speed up without me even pressing the gas. My shock absorbers look like they are almost off the coil over spring. My lights in my car. Sometimes work and sometimes don't. My headlights won't turn on sometimes. I have to kill the car and rest the system on my radio . My radio just started working last week for the first time since I got it and I have had it since October 2024. Bunch more problems . My service brake light and service airbags lights never go off. . My engine lights never goes off. My tires sensors never pick up. My car is currently sitting in a parking lot and since I can't drive it bc it won't shift into park the battery has been stolen and also something has happened to my windshield. Bc my windshield is broken on passenger side.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? • the parking brake randomly turns on mid driving especially on the highway. My car will randomly stop driving but the the radio and everything else is on but the car isn’t on if that make sense. When I go to turn it back on after it shuts off it stutters then finally kicks back on. My tire sensors are completely off , my airbag system is always saying error , seat belt system is always going off. I could be going 50mph and car will shut off mid driving. Yes it can be inspected for free. Especially if my car is recalled . How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? • my safety is definitely put at risk and sometimes others depending what my car does that day. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? • no I haven’t had no one to look at it has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? • no I haven’t been in a accident I do my best to get off the road were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? •seat belt sensor is on , airbag sensor is on , and check engine light is on. It’s been going on for about 2 months now there was no incident but I am very scared their will be. I do my best to be off the road but this is my only vehicle. I just seen an article my vehicle is recalled .
Abs, parking brake and traction control systems error items showing on dash. These error items indicate that the abs module needs to be replaced, however Chrysler can no longer supply this part and the dealer has said that they have tried unsuccessfully to install a used part and also am after market part which would not work.
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler 200. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel was difficult to turn, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle was started, and the air bag warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that the horn failed to function as intended. The contact later noticed that the driver's and passenger's headrest air bags had deployed unintendedly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic twice; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,879.

My car will not go into park. It will not engage. It is staying in gear. I called Chrysler Dodge Jeep in lee summit and they say that that has been repaired before there is a recall on it but there’s refusing to repair it. Never had that happen or had it repaired since I’ve owned the vehicle but unsafe and drivable dangerous I was stuck in the middle of the street for over an hour was very very terrifying. Can you help me figure out what they won’t fix this? control automatic emergency braking r08 I believe this is to the recall code I run the car for a while, and I have never taken it in for this I was unaware until it lost up on me my number.
While driving this vehicle the car would shut down while driving, no ability to brake, to steer. The car would start back up, but the same issues would happen, making it extremely dangerous to drive. This happened on several different occasions. One of my issues with this problem is that Chrysler had the same issue with the 2015 Chrysler 200 and the 2015 was recalled. If you look at sites other than Chrysler, customers had reported the same problem with the 2014 and it looks like Chrysler just swept it under the rug. The dealership is saying that the tipm system needs to be replaced on my car, for a cost of $3000. 00 for a know problem.

Was driving and pulling in next to garage heard a loud pop and brake pedal when hard and could not stop the car and hit the side of the garage . Safty issue is if I was at a higher speed and light turns red would not have been able to stop the car and would have hit another car or person , there was no warning lights on till after the pop when the red brake light came on, and said service eltric brakes it has been looked at by me and it has the same iisues that the Dodge dart had for the recall r63 with the brake booster geting oil in it from the vacuum tube assembly have called Chrysler and they said it is not and issue but it is a safty issue.

I believe the brake or something related to the brakes failed. I ran a stop sign, with no evidence of brake marks on the road. I crossed over a highway hit a side walk almost hit a house. The safety of myself and others was at extreme danger. When finally came to a stop I couldn't put my car in park, or back in drive or shut my car off, I beleive I had no braking or something electrical failed. My car is totaled. The only light on was the airbag light before the accident.
2 weeks ago on approximately may 14th I was backing out of my drive way and my brake pedal was hard and I was barely able to stop my car. It takes approximately 3 to 4 car lengths to fully stop at 10 mph. I replaced the brakes and bled the brakes properly but I have come to the conclusion that the brake booster has gone bad. My safety and others is at risk due to the length of time it takes to stop and the lack of stopping power. I am unable to take it to a dealer as it doesn't run at the present time. The abs and park brake lights were on and the dash says to service electronic braking system. I am trying to get this fixed ASAP as I need transportation to and from work and I am not trying to put my wife or son in any danger.
As I was driving down a slight slope while braking to try to come to a stop, the car died / shut off. Within the few seconds that I was trying to slow to a stop, the brakes stopped working, various lights turned on the dash (I can't remember which), and then the car shut off entirely. If there was a car or something in front of me, I would not have been able to stop because the brakes weren't working. This problem has been reported numerous times through various online forums/sites. There was no warning, message, or other symptom to indicate this would happen. This car also has stalling issues that has been complained of by other Chrysler 200 owners as well. Both stalling and shutting off poses a serious concern to all drivers.
While driving vehicle lost power and began to show service transmission and park brake check signs. Vehicle lost power and was lucky we weren't rear ended on the road by the cars behind or cause an accident. Looking at this is year there are several complaints with the same issue. Car only has 33k miles and is having transmission issues.
My car stalls when cranking and has shut down before while on the interstate. I think it’s an electrical problem no signs on the dashboard and saying key fob not detected.
The car begins to buck hard and drive sluggish on the highway around 45 miles per hour. And when stopped idle at the light stalls regularly. I took it to the dealer and they had me replace the cam shift sensor. The repair did not work. It continues to stall.
Engine stops with no warning, making the power steering & brakes stop working. Mopar repair center could not duplicate the problem. When I picked it up, it happened in their parking lot while in my car waiting for it to warm up.
Cv axle are wore out I couldn't drive turning an shocks wore out faster please help.
I have been having trouble with my car for a while where it, most of the time, won’t start on the first try. I’ve been to my dealership multiple times and it just seems as if my car is declining after each session. I can’t even remote start my vehicle anymore. There will be times where I am stopped for a period of time and my car will stall and/or glitch out. The stability control and electric park brake trouble indicators will come on as well as the anti-lock brake system fault and electric power steering fault indicators…all at the same time. I will be looking around for auto shops that I trust but later down the line, if there is no breakthrough, I will buy another vehicle.

My emergency brake deploys while driving. I’ve almost died 3x. Have proof of reporting and photos . . Now my car is wrecked. I need help.
There were no warning lamps but my transmission shift very hard and is very jerky. Also my parking break keeps engaging on its own. Im afraid that im going to be driving and it will engage itsself. It hasnt happened while driving yet but it had many times while setting still and in gear.
Speed settings will accelerate and loose power without manually adjusting. Electrical will cut in and out. Breaks system will kick in randomly.
For weeks now ive been noticing a weird grinding or dry rubbing sound underneath the front end of my Chrysler. Checked it out a few times, as though I am not a mechanic I can identify the basics of something not right. However, after my husband and his brother both looking it over on seperate occasions, they have noted a leak under the carriage of the car. Often here recently, the guage senses an over heating of some sort. Since this notice, we have replaced the oil cooler twice in a year; as well as flushed the hoses associated with the coolant reservoir. Fixed temporary but has now already started getting too hot. Which simply tells me that its something further internal thats wrong. I was informed of an engine recall: l33 of my Chrysler model. However havent seen one on this website. When driving yesterday, I noticed a light on my cluster that indicated the traction has failed. When I brake, all u hear or feel is a vibration under your feet, up front. I replaced my brake pads all 4, within the past 4 months and theyre now rusted over and u notice a brake fluid leak on the front right side. After a light, the grinding noise, the vibration and the overheating; I am positive that this will eventually cause a car stall or worse a fatal accident. My brakes could eventually fail while driving in traffic, causing a crash. Or my car could just all out stalland the cluster can trip and I could be in harms way if at the time it does this I could be goin 70 on the interstate or in a turninglane in town and without proper fix; it could easily cause a fatal accident and I could be killed or worse my children!.

When driving the vehicle will suddenly shut off. No warning of it about to happen just does. I lose steering and brakes and turns on only after time goes by or by removing negative terminal from battery. It's happened at 35mph and at 60 mph. I've gone a week with no incident to having it happen dozens of times on a single trip. Very scary situation. Especially in traffic.
On a highway while about to cross an intersection the engine just shuts off when taking off. The engine hesitates and dies with no check engine lights or anything. Taking away power steering and making it harder to stop due to the engine not running.
~tl-the contact owns a 2015 chyrsler 200 limited. While vehilcle was coming out of parked postition, the park brake is engage on it's own. A warning light did illuminated from the vehicle. The contact was able to take the vehile to independent mechanic who was ablt to diagnosed park brake was in transition and need to replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not avaiable. Vw.
As I was driving about 40mph and slowing down for a stop sign, the engine died out. Locking my brakes and my steering wheel. At this very moment the gear d was blinking on the dash and telling me to put the vehicle in park. The vehicle was disables and the ignition would not start the car until after several minutes and multiple attempts. This has occurred a total of 5 times in the last 2 weeks. This is very dangerous if it occurred while I'm on the freeway or in the middle of an intersection.
As I was driving down the highway on September 12, 2020, I noticed that my steering wheel was hard to turn suddenly and my gas pedal and brake pedal were not working properly. The car would not move much and it wouldn't stop properly. Some lights lit up on my dash board. I brought my car into the shop a few days later. The mechanic hooked my car to a machine and nothing was really showing. He did something to reset my dashboard alerts and said that if it continued to bring it back. It did continue, so he ordered new coils for my car. I brought the car back in on September 29, 2020 for repair. The mechanic rechecked my car and he found metal flakes in the oil that he drained from my transmission. He said that is not normal for regular wear and tear.
Two days ago my car randomly turned the breaking break on going in reverse I thought I hit something but really my car turned on the parking break I didn't think anything of it but in the same day but different time it did it again also when I mean turned on the parking break I mean it was completely on and stopped my car from moving. Now today I was driving I stopped at a red light went to go pull off and my breaking break came on and I couldn't move my car until I turned it off same with when I went in reverse. I'm currently on vacation 33 hours away from home in California and I'm scared I won't be able to get my car back and myself and family home safely in this car come Saturday and honestly I'm afraid to drive it now because it does it randomly with zero warning.
On August 23rd, I was taking my sister in law back home from our house. On the way back from her house I decided to wash my 15 Chrysler 200. When I as done with that task and got back in the car. I noticed my brakes wouldn't disengage. I tried to do the maintenance release through the car's radio and it wouldn't let me do it. This is the first time I had any problem with the car. So I then tried to turn off and on the car and that didn't work. So then I thou maybe if I drove it, they would release and just as I hit 45mph, they did. And started to preform normally. An hour later, I stopped by my mother-in-law house to take car of her dogs like I've been doing for the last few days and when I was ready to leave. The car battery died. I'm not quite sure how cause I don't leave my lights on ever. And I sat there to wait for someone to tow it to the store with car battery and had them switched. They came to tell me that they couldn't get the car out of gear. So I went out there to see what was wrong and they were right. The car was running fine but I couldn't get it to change gears. On my dashboard. My small screen said to service the park brake and I thought, what that the brakes got to do with it's transmission. I looked and saw my mileage, 93,568, was blinking and my gear indicator as n. I'm pretty sure that the car was in park the hole time they where changing out the battery. The shifter nob was able to turn but I wasn't changing the gear either. So after that, I released the parking brake, that's somehow made the care show it was in drive, and had it towed back to my mother-in-law house.
My vehicle had trouble starting. When I finally started it, I was unable to shift gears, the transmission was acting weird.
While in motion the parking break can engage at any speed and it's placement on the car itself is dangerous and jerks the car if pressed while moving therefor could cause extreme harm. For the safety of myself, any or all passengers, or drivers nearby, in the event of an accident it needs to be moved to a location that isn't not easily reachable and also not allowed to even remotely engage while moving. I only occurred whiplash and my fast thinking and luck of having the room to slow down, but otherwise it is highly dangerous and it should never engage u less the brakes are being pressed and definitely not at speeds up to or over the speed limits.
Takes too long for the brakes to recognize they put us on a break then it increases speak before it brakes.
While driving or accelerating, the check charging system light pops up on dash screen and will shut off, not being able to drive.
