4 Ignition problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 07/29/2010

After turning right at stop light and proceeding slowly with acceleration, a loud/shaking noise was heard from 2004 Chrysler Pacifica (similar to a cell phone placed on vibrate instead of ringing when a call is received). Within seconds, vehicle unintentionally accelerated and I was unable to stop it, even after pressing on brakes. I was a block away from where I had to turn to enter our subdivision, traveling down a two-lane road. Thankfully, no cars were traveling in opposite direction, or coming out of our subdivision, so I was able to turn left to enter our subdivision. To try to slow car down, I had to press down on brakes as hard as I could while turning the wheel, which caused the vehicle to swerve, almost hitting a light pole. After turning and stopping the swerve, the vehicle accelerated even further, reaching the '4' on the tachometer (before the turn, it had been at a '3'). As I approached the four-way stop in our subdivision, I again stepped on the brakes as hard as I could, but it had no effect. The tachometer read '4', but the speedometer showed 30 mph, regardless of how hard I pressed on brakes. I could not brake at all, and was losing the ability to steer as I approached the sign. The only way to stop the vehicle was to place it in 'park'(which made the tachometer go even higher) and remove the keys to turn off the car as quickly as I could. This stopped the car right in front of the stop sign. I waited about 30 seconds and attempted to restart car, but after ignition key was turned, tachometer revved up again to '4', though speedometer read '0'. Husband maneuvered car the one block home by placing it in 'neutral'. This is the first incident of this nature. Chrysler to be notified in morning, as I called after business hours (7:41 pm cst). Myself, two kids, and two dogs were in the car driving down what is normally a busy two-lane road and into subdivision full of playing children, truly a miracle no one was injured.

7 Ignition problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 11/26/2006

2005 Chrysler Pacifica the car shuts off when making a sharp turn. It shut off today 11/26/06 when pulling out into traffic almost causing use to be involved in a serious accident with my children in car. The first few times it happened I was driving and I thought maybe my leg hit the key as it is positioned poorly for tall drivers but ,the ignition would still be in the on position so. Tonight again it happened and my wife is 5'1 and comes no where's near the key. It turns off on its own. I am very concerned about the safety of my family while operating this vehicle.

10 Ignition problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 07/06/2006

My wife was driving vehicle around town on a short trip (<10 mi). She had come to a complete stop to perform a "michigan" turn (turning left using separate turn-around drives located in the median). When she began to accelerate to perform the turn, the car lunged but did not move. Her initial reaction was that the car was in neutral, but further review showed that the car had stalled (identified by the "dummy" lights lit up on the dash). She put the car in park, restarted it and proceeded. This is our first experience with the "stalling" problem with this vehicle. Gas tank was greater than â¾ full but not completely full. Vehicle mileage: 7788 miles. Vehicle had probably not reached full operating temperature.

13 Ignition problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 12/27/2005

My wife and I leased a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica in April. The car stalls for no apparent reason. The first time this occurred was when my wife was driving with our 3 small children. The car stalled and all power was lost. It was raining that day. I drove the car 12/27/05 and the car stalled on me going down a very steep incline. It just so happens that it was raining that day too. I almost hit a utility poll as I lost my steering. I had to really pull on the wheel and pump the brakes to pull off the side of the road safely. I turned the ignition off and restarted the car. The car was brought back to the dealer of origin twice and we were told that they connected the cars computer to a diagnostic machine that informs the dealer if the car has a problem, but both times the dealer couldn't find a problem. At this point I'm very concerned about this issue as I experienced a situation that could have resulted in serious injury to me or any other motor vehicle operator that I could have collided with. I'm placing everyone on notice of this major problem in hopes that someone will do something to correct it before a family member, perhaps yours, doesn't come home one day because a Pacifica stalled and rammed the car in which your loved one was an occupant. The first time this occurred the car had 5000 miles registered and the second time it had approximately 10,000.

14 Ignition problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 06/17/2004

Remote fob is integrated in key has a small hole for the key loop spring. When driving on a long trip, I adjusted positions on legs and bumped the keys that hang down. Due to small hole, the hanging keys don't fall out of way, but rather create a rigid link that creates the key to turn from "on" to "off" and locks steering wheel. Fortunately, when it happened, I noticed it right away and was on a straight road (but going 65 mph with a locked steering wheel).

15 Ignition problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 02/08/2004

Car stalls while in transit, when slowing down and turning. Loses all electrical and power steering capabilities in the middle of a turn. Restarts when put into park.
