The vehicle display reads "service charging system" and switches into limp mode where the vehicle is prevented from driving faster than 15 mph. After leaving the van sit for a time, it drives ok. I took the van to a Chrysler dealership twice after this happened, and the dealership could not resolve the issue. After the second time this happened, the dealership contacted an engineer at Chrysler to try and resolve the problem, but they could not. Chrysler says the problem stems from the charger that is being used, but the error/limp mode occurs not after using a charger. I am concerned that the vehicle will switch over to limp mode at any time presenting a safety risk.

I was driving on I-81 in virginia, speed limit is 70mph, a warning flashed in the screen: “stop safely, vehicle will shut off soon. ” the car immediately began decelerating, I pulled off the highway and restarted the car, but it would only drive very slowly (approx 15mph). After restarting two more times, it was able to drive normally. This is the second such incident, the car is under warranty. The first incident happened 12/28 and I brought the car to the dealer, Chrysler of culpepper, va. Their service department told me that they were unable to replicate the event after the first incident and it was likely just a computer glitch that has corrected itself. I have another service appointment scheduled, but they seem to be clueless on how to fix this incredibly dangerous problem.

On three separate occasions (December 2023-February 2024), while driving in temperatures below freezing, our 2022 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid dashboard gave the following warning, along side the illumination of a red turtle warning light: "stop safely. Vehicle will shut off soon. " the vehicle then lost the ability to accelerate, and the speed dropped significantly and immediately. Two of the three times, my one and three year old were in the vehicle and there was no shoulder on the 50mph road we were traveling on after sunset. Fortunately, the three times this happened, we were less than a half mile from our home and we coasted downhill to the bottom of our driveway. Our vehicle has now been at a certified Chrysler dealership for three full business days, and the technician "has no idea what is wrong," "is still working on it," "has no idea how long it will take to fix," and "has no rental or loaner cars available" for our family while we wait for our family's mode of transportation to be returned. They claim they are unable to recreate the issue, so they cannot fix it. We showed them a picture of the dashboard, but that is not enough for them. It is currently 72 degrees in dayton, OH, and the issue has never occurred in temperatures above 30 degrees. Thus, I doubt they will be able to "recreate" the issue until next winter. They've offered no other options or resolution until they can "recreate the issue. ".
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving 20 mph, the vehicle independently jumped forward without the accelerator pedal being depressed. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle had had not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,329.

There have been several incidents that have to do with the electrical components site, such as the adaptive cruise control not working the lanes assist going off, stating that my hands are on the wheel. When my hands are on the wheel, there have been problems when I go to put it in drive. It'll switch back to park and throw on my parking brake. It has also the auto breaking lights have. Come on, my checken and light has come on. It taking in to the dealership and they found corrosion on some of the wires, replaced them. They also replaced the adaptive adaptive control module. It was supposed to magically fix all my electrical problems. Yet I'm still having electrical problems also my navigation on. A scream down by the cluster cluster. Stays on and doesn't go anywhere. I also have video and pictures and things like that of the situations that have gone on with my van 4 months and nothing has been fixed. I've been told by the dealer and buy a representative from Chrysler. That's my van is fine. There's nothing wrong with that. But clearly there isn't an electrical issue and. And I pretty god. Nothing happens to me or my family or someone else because of it. Also, the radio, when you shut your car off and open the doors to exit your vehicle, the radio is still left playing and should not also the auto break in just comes on. For no reason. It happened on the interstwhen we were merging in the traffic. And there's no reason it should be doing some of the things that it's doing.

Driving at approx 45 mph the car suddenly lost propulsion and experienced a complete electrical failure. The power steering was lost, braking was stiff, gas pedal was unresponsive. I struggled to get the vehicle out of the lane of traffic. The police arrived and helped route traffic until the tow truck arrived. The vehicle is still covered under factory warranty and is currently at the dealer with no estimated return date. As a matter of fact, the Chrysler dealer that has my car hasn't returned my phone calls or voice mails in a week now to inform me how long I might be without my vehicle. A day before the incident a message appeared: ?service hybrid electrical system it happened fast but prior to the failure the display flashed red and sounded an alarm shift to p to start for a few seconds, then the gear shifter was flashing. . . . Then I lost all power.

The vehicle has stalled as trying to continue after a stop at a light or stop sign. It will not travel except at 10 miles per hour or less while trying to cross the intersection. Other drivers are impatient and start honking. This has also happened while going down a busy street . It jerks when you start to go after stopping. Happened in July 2023 -- 2x August 2023 -- 2x September 2023 -- 2x.

Vehicle was traveling at approximately 50 miles per hour with no indication of an issue or prior warning. Vehicle suddenly lost power, rolled to a stop, engaged parking brake and displayed "service charging system" error. Vehicle was non-operable in the middle of traffic with small children inside the vehicle, presenting significant risk of accident and injury. Vehicle was towed to a dealership and remains inoperable, as confirmed by dealer. Dealer diagnosed need for replacement transmission. Vehicle previously had transmission-related recall, which was serviced. No open recalls are in effect, though public searches and owners' groups identify consistent, recurring fact patterns. Chrysler's star parts department blocked the dealer's part order and neither Chrysler nor dealer have identified the reason. Vehicle remains inoperable at the dealer with no timeline for part availability or repair, and uncertainty as to whether issue will recur.
Vehicle has continually shifted roughly, but beginning last year it stalled while coming to a stop. We replaced the battery and removed the auxillary battery that controls the automatic start/stop and had no issues for almost a year. Approximately a week ago, the vehicle began to stall again when coming to a stop, and giving a message stating to "service shifter. " it has happened multiple times since. There was a lawsuit for this model regarding the crankshaft position sensor, but we are only reimbursed if we have paid for repairs. Can you help?.
When driving approximately 65 mph on the highway, alert on the vehicle display came on saying to pull over the engine would shut down soon. We were able to pull over and the car no longer worked. We were driving with our family of young children in the car, had there been no shoulder to pull over on the highway we would have been extreme danger.
My 2022 pacific hybrid limited stalled today while heading towards the monterey bay aquarium. Luckily, I had enough momentum to make it to the shoulder. I've had it since late December and it has 3900 miles. It started with this whine for 10 miles prior to the stall, similar to the fake whine ev cars make to warn pedestrians. Then I hit a patch of traffic that dropped my speed to less than 10 mph. When traffic started to go again, the car shook and grumbled until it stopped accelerating all together. The check engine light blinked on. At that point I was maybe going 20mph and quickly started to go over two lanes (had to cut off a guy) but made it to the shoulder safely. Once we stopped, we all noticed the smell of something like burnt electronics. The car wouldn't move at the point. I tried turning the car off and on for the next 15 mins and still no go. The car also had <1% battery power (which we used up the battery maybe 20 minutes prior to the stall).
On wed, April 5th, 2023 at approximately 10:15 pm I was returning home from a class in my 2021 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid. I was on local roads and had just transitioned from ev mode to gas mode (having used up all of my battery after about 30 miles of driving) when the car flashed the attached warning sign and I had very little power provided by my accelerator. Note that something similar to this has happened 5x before. All of these incidents had been at highway speeds (70+ mph) with one at about 40 mph. All had complete shutdown of power in the accelerator. In the current case I was able to still have a bit of power left and pulled over to the side of the road. Fortunately, it was late and there weren't too many other cars out so I didn't have as many safety concerns as I had in the past when I stalled on the highway. After I pulled the car over I stopped the car, turned the car off via the ignition button, unbuckled my seat belt and opened my door. Then I restarted my car and the error message attached had disappeared and I was able to return home. Note that I had had the dealer apply recall 03a a week earlier and this seemed to be what was supposed to happen under that recall which is not identified as a complete fix. Still, it is very disconcerting to lose full power. In my case, I was thankful to not have gotten into an accident.
I was driving on the highway ~57mph and the dash flashed warnings "service charging station", and then I lost control of the accelerator pedal. It seems like the engine stalled, and I could no longer use the gas pedal. I coasted off the highway, then restarted the engine by turning it off/on. Once it was back on, I continued to drive, and I experienced the same exact thing. This is the 3rd time I've had an issue with the dash warning "service charging station". This car has been in-and-out of service for ~2 months, since purchasing the new car around June 2021.
We were coming down a mountain from flagstaff to phoenix at night in heavy, fast traffic when my engine just died. No power, no power steering, no power assisted brakes. Total emergency. I have never been so scared in a vehicle. Nearly rear ended by semi at full speed. Had to try to find a shoulder on a mountain and pull over fast to avoid collision. Then once pulled over the Pacifica does not just start right up again have to go through a process. Then it happened again 20 minutes later. Almost another rear end collision. That night I found out there's a recall for this exact problem without a remedy!!!!!! I took it right in to the dealer for a software update that . . . Get this . . . Doesn't fix the defect but is supposed to give me more warning that my engine is about to shut off!!! please do not allow them to get by with this bandaid. This is truly a life threatening defect. They must fix this or buy back my vehicle. Please help!!! Chrysler is risking our lives.
February 23rd: car shut off while getting off the freeway. Would not restart for 5 minutes. Had no acceleration but could still steer. February 23rd: brought car to the dealership, they scanned the car and there was no code. February 26th: car shut off 3 times on the freeway going 70mph. Had to pull over and restart car to be able to accelerate. I had my 2 kids in the car at this time and fear for their safety. March 1st- car shut off on the freeway going 70 mph. Had to pull over carefully again. Turn off the car, open the car door, wait a few minutes, restart. March 3rd- car shut off on the freeway again. Brought car to the dealership again, they asked for me to drop it off on Monday. March 6th- left car at dealership. They said it needs a new transmission and would be a minimum of 30 days to replace it, but most likely longer.
While driving on the freeway at 60-70 mph, in 20 degree weather at night, the engine suddenly, and without warning, stopped. A dash error message showed instructions to put the car in park and push the start / run button. The van was still traveling at a high rate of speed while the message stayed up and the van had to be carefully maneuvered through traffic, across multiple lanes to the next exit, without the ability to accelerate when needed. Somehow no one was hurt and the vehicle did not get into an accident, but it came to a stop in the middle of the exit ramp, which had a steep uphill grade. The van was unable to be restarted. A good samaritan helped push the car to a nearby lot while car was in neutral. It was unable to be started then and two and three days later. The roadside assistance couldn’t be provided until a few days later because the incident occurred at the beginning of the weekend. The vehicle was finally towed to the closest dealership today. The dealership said the software update is available for the recall of potential loss of motive power, which appears to be the issue we experienced. They said it would take 2-3 weeks to look at the vehicle due to their backlog. I called the dealership where we bought it, and they said the same. Also, based on initial research, it seems the software update will only give advance warning when an electrical short is about to cause the engine to stop so the driver can have advanced warning and presumably drive to safety without an accident. Unfortunately, the manufacturer still needs to address the root cause and build a solution to prevent the electrical short from happening in the first place. The situation is troubling and the manufacturer and both dealerships are even stalling in getting us a complimentary loaner vehicle. Also note that we were not instructed to stop driving the vehicle when we found out about the recall prior to the incident. Again the van won’t be fixed for weeks, NHTSA shows no remedy yet.
The car lost all motive power on 3 separate occasions on Saturday, Feb 4, 2023. The car is currently at the dealership and we've been told the transmission needs to be replaced. Our family's safety was put at risk as well as the drivers around us. We easily could have be rear ended when when we were on the freeway and lost the ability to accelerate. When we lost power each time we had to navigate to the side of the freeway or exit to avoid being hit by another driver. The dealer has not reproduced it (that I know of) but has said we need a new transmission. My fear is that we are going to get a new transmission that will do the same thing. There were no warnings before the failure. Once the failure happened, the engine and battery lights came on as well as another warning about the electrical system.
As we drive this vehicle at a slower speed, it seems to almost cut off and then it will jerk (a very hard jerk) back into motion. We have had it serviced, both batteries replaced, and a diagnostic done on it and it continues to act up. It makes us afraid to drive it. Do you have any suggestions on how to move forward? thank you - cena hubbell - shen-paco industries- 540-477-2049.
The vehicle constantly stalls out when we driving on the freeway. The vehicle loss of the power on the freeway put me and my family's life in very dangerous situation when we drove the vehicle. Brough my vehicle to the dealership, and it verified the problem with engine light error code p0a43-00. The dealer stated that they are not able to fix it due to the issue was related to a active recall 03a. However, the remedy was not available.
Multiple occurrences have happened where I am driving the car on the freeway when the service charging system code comes on and the vehicle stalls. I am unable to accelerate and have to pull off onto the shoulder. This is very dangerous as the vehicles on the freeway are going at high speeds. This failure could easily cause an accident or worse. The car then flashes shift to p to start and the check engine light comes on. The vehicle is currently at the Chrysler dealership to be diagnosed.
While driving down the road, my vehicle stated that it was not in park out of no where, and I was driving 35 -40 miles per hour. No doors were open, it was me and my twin boys age 2 in car seats. It then decided to stop in the road. The vehicle shut off. I turned on my hazards and had to try to restart my vehicle. Almost getting in an accident. Got it restarted and pulled it over. I was terrified. This was the second time this has happened except the first time was a month prior and I was driving up to a red light, depressed the brake (start stop was deactivated prior by me) and once I stopped the car just shut off and didnt want to restart, car was placed in park. After about a minute I got it to restart, again I pulled over. The radio will turn off and restart every 3 minutes, with nothing connected. It is like this car has all of a sudden become possesed. I have replaced both the battery and aux battery.
The engine of our 2021 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid suddenly lost power while driving on the freeway. The display indicated "put car in park" or something similar--but we were driving 65 miles/hour in heavy traffic! I had to pull over, turn the car off completely for one minute, and restart. After restarting the "check engine" light was on. Later in the drive after we stopped again, the "check engine" light turned off, so all evidence of the error is gone from the car. However, we received en email from Chrysler's automatic system saying the car had reported an error for "powertrain" and we should schedule our service. It was dangerous to lose power while driving at freeway speeds. I am also confused about why the car's error codes went away. The car is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? my family of four was driving in heavy holiday traffic at 65 miles per hour when we lost power. It is dangerous to lose power at such speeds in the middle lanes of the interstate. I turned on the hazard lights and crossed three lanes to an exit. Thankfully we were going downhill and the heavy trucks in the slow lanes let us through. My life and the lives of my family were clearly endangered by this incident. This is the second time the car lost power on the freeway and the fourth time we have had the check engine light turn on. The car has about 26,500 miles. I have taken the car to dealer shops for the last three times the car indicated errors. Last time the car lost power the dealer said they could not replicate the issue. The car has been inspected by the dealer service department 4 times. I will take the car back to the dealer to get inspected again. There were no indications prior to the failure. The car lost power with no warning when we were driving at freeway speeds and we were about 300 miles into a 500 mile drive.
My 2021 Pacifica hybrid with 19. 2k miles threw a "service charging system" and check engine light error while I was driving at 65mph on the highway on christmas eve in 8 degree weather. The minivan stopped accelerating and the transmission began flashing between p and d. We were forced to stop the vehicle on the highway shoulder, leaving us (2 parents, 2 kids 7 & 11) stranded on the highway. The vehicle then shut off and we were unable to turn on heating or accessories other than headlights and hazards. We were rescued by state troopers given that no tow trucks were available on christmas eve. The local dealer claims that the issue was related to the battery, but that doesn't make sense given the car was driving at highway speeds at the time and the alternator should keep the battery charged. I have seen a lot of owners with service charging system errors on this forum and believe Chrysler should have some knowledge as to a permanent solution. Without better understanding the root cause of the issue, it's hard for us to feel safe with a battery replacement, since that seems to be address symptom given that a car running highway speeds would keep the batteries charged through the belt and alternator system. My wife is fairly terrified of driving this car at highway speeds without some assurances it won't shut down and I get the sense that the dealer wants to wash its hands of this situation. I have a Chrysler warranty number for this repair, but have not received assistance yet. Would really appreciate some help!.
I was driving in stop and go traffic about 4 hours into a road trip on i95. At around 60mph, an error popped up on the dash saying “service charging system” then it quickly went away and said “shift to p to start” at which point I lost all propulsion. I was in the left lane and had to make my way to the side of the road with my family of 6 in the car. This was extremely stressful and dangerous as I had no way to accelerate and was stuck to coast. I flipped on my hazard lights and was able to navigate to a safe place under an overpass. At this point, I completely cut off the car and restarted it. It worked fine again upon restart, but the check engine light remained there after. The incident happened again on a side road at around 40mph on the same day. I coasted to a stoplight and had to power cycle the car 3 times to get driving again. The following day, I went to a local Chrysler dealership and they are still in the progress of diagnosing, however they won’t have a response until after christmas. So, I’m being directed to rent a vehicle until the van is deemed safe to drive again.
On tue, 12/20/2022, I was driving on I-94 westbound between moorland road and WI hwy 164 at about 60-70 mph. The car suddenly stalled and I lost all ability to accelerate the vehicle. The brakes and steering wheel still worked fine. The dash was displaying a message: "service charging system. Shift to p to start. " this has happened to my vehicle multiple times before. I was in the right lane and the shoulder was clear. I was able to pull onto the shoulder and come to a controlled stop. I put the vehicle in park and shut off the vehicle. After waiting a bit I restarted the car successfully. This happened 1 more time on the same trip (but on hwy 16 as I was headed out to waukesha county technical college. ) this is definitely safety issue as there was no way to restart the car in motion. Plus, pulling over to the shoulder on a busy highway, particularly with many trucks going by around 50 - 60 mph made me feel quite scared. I do not trust driving the vehicle at speeds above 60 mph anymore. This has happened to me last month. I took it to a dealer after that incident but they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. This is now the 6th time this has happened to me.
On Dec 5th, as I was driving downhill on hwy 54 in peachtree city, GA, the van jerked, made a beeping noise, and the dash lit up. The van had completely shut off. It said "service charging system" and "shift to park". I was able to get the van off the roadway and into a parking lot by coasting. Despite turning it off, it kept turning back on with the ac on full blast. It finally stopped turning back on after I opened the driver door and left it open. It restarted and my husband drove it home. I called Chrysler when I got home. They said to call the local dealership to get recall fixed and have them look at the engine. I called the dealership first thing the next morning. He said the first available appointment would be Dec 28th. They no longer have a loaner program so I had to contact Chrysler cares back regarding rental. I sent them a message asking about a rental. They recommended I try to find an appt at another dealership. They also stated they couldn't speak to if it was safe to drive the van until seen at the dealership. On Friday Dec 9, I had to use the van. It stalled 5 times. I was able to get it off the roadway and restarted immediately. I contacted Chrysler again to request they contact the dealer to try to get me in sooner and they need to provide me a rental. This is a huge safety concern, and this is an issue that has been impacting their vans for a long time now. We love the van, but so disappointed that it is failing us and doesn't even have 50k miles on it! their customer service is terrible. They are aware of these issues!!!.
Driving on the road and vehicle lost all propulsion. Warning comes up on the dash saying service charging system and shift to p. At that point, one has to coast to a stop on the side of the road. Vehicle would not restart. After waiting and completely shutting down the vehicle, it did restart. This is the second time this has happened over the past two months. The dealer updated software as a "fix" the first time, which has not fixed the issue. It also happened a third time when pulling into the dealer for service today. Dealer was able to see the issue. It is extremely dangerous, as there is no warning before losing all propulsion and it can happen at any speed and at any time. Please note that this appears to be the exact same issue addressed with NHTSA recall 22v-865, and both vehicles are manufactured by fca and likely use the same hybrid electric powertrain. By addressing this loss of propulsion issue in the Chrysler Pacifica hybrid now, there is a chance to save lives (there was a death caused by the Jeep 4xe recall issue) by mandating this same recall for the Chrysler Pacifica hybrid.
I was driving the car around 70 mph on a highway with charged batteries and a 3/4 full tank of gas when the engine shut off a red dot appeared under the check engine light and a message appeared saying charging system fault, shift to park. Before this the van had been in the shop multiple times for a periodic check engine light that have a "cam shaft position sensor fault"message but the dealership was unable to locate the issue.
On three recent, separate occasions, the vehicle has lost acceleration while making a left hand turn from a stop (date listed for this incident is most recent). No visual or aural warning indications have displayed on the dash during or proximate to these incidents, but the car felt like it went out of gear while making a normal left turn. Pushing or releasing the throttle only affected engine rpm, not any acceleration, so it felt like we were only coasting. It lasts longer than a normal shift, more than a few seconds, before power is sent to the wheels again. On two of the occasions there was oncoming traffic approaching the intersection. If the power had died any sooner in the turn I'm not sure I would have cleared the intersection in time with what little speed I had gained, increasing the risk of collision. I am taking the car to the local Chrysler dealership tomorrow for inspection and hopeful diagnosis/repair. I can't replicate the issue on demand, but after 3 separate occasions, it is an unmistakable feeling. Based on the clunky, jerking shifting into gear that sometimes occurs with the vehicle outside the above-described incidents, I believe it might be transmission related, but I can't be sure.
All of a sudden while driving 40 miles per hour, “service charging system” warning showed up on dash, asked to put car in park and unable to accelerate. Car stopped working in the middle of a busy road, unable to be restarted for 10 min.
Steering wheel buttons began no working. Lights on steering wheel flicker when steering wheel turns. Randomly alerted that "adaptive cruise control is unavailable" both when the system is in use and when it is off. Forward collision warning system active breaking not working.
On oct. 9, 2022, at approximately 6:30 p. M. Edt, I was braking as I approached a stop sign. For the first second or two of braking, the van slowed normally. Then, as the van was nearly stopped at the stop sign (probably 10 feet ahead of it, and approx. 5 mph or less), while my foot was still gently depressing the brake pedal, the van began to accelerate on its own. In response, I stepped down hard on the brake, lurching the van to a stop. After the hard stop (and explaining it to my family), I gently accelerated through the intersection and parked the van in my driveway. (the stop sign was 2 houses from home. ) this was on a residential street, 25 mph speed limit, clear day, dry pavement. Before applying the brakes I had been coasting down the street between 20 and 25 mph. There was no other traffic and no pedestrians. When the van accelerated on its own, we had nearly but not completely come to a stop yet. My foot was still gently depressing the brake to come to a smooth stop. Neither the accelerator nor the cruise control was engaged. With unwanted acceleration while the brake is depressed, I do not think the vehicle is safe to drive. Today (the next morning) I am in the process of calling to have it flatbed-transported to the dealer for inspection. The van is brand new; we've had it 5 weeks, it has 698 miles. No problem or warning prior to this.
Sept. 12, 2022 - ever since we have owned this vehicle, we have experienced this issue with the cruise control. Speed increases while driving downhill highways and sometimes on pretty level highways. When I decrease the speed on the controller, it sometimes maintains the speed for several seconds (slow to respond) in order to slow down while coming up behind another vehicle. I therefore need to break or turn off the cruise control. Very unpredictable. Also, speed changes a lot which sounds like shifting gears back and forth while going uphill. I had contacted the dealer originally and was told this is normal. This is ongoing. Happens every time when driving on the highway. Safety concern. The other issue we had experienced while driving on a city street, we got some odd sounds, what sounded like it was coming for the transmission. Like shifting sounds. And on another couple of occasions, we got a kind of (clunk) noise. Not sure…hard to explain. Only happened a few times over the last several months. And was brief. This in not ongoing, but a concern for failure and or safety. No warning lamps or messages.
I was on the highway, and my car suddenly lost power. I was unable to accelerate, and I had to pull over on the shoulder. I received an alert that said “service charging system error. ” it was extremely dangerous for myself and my family.
My Pacifica suddenly will not start. I ended up jump-starting the van. Then whenever I stopped, it needed a jump start. This whole ordeal is from a single day. Driving back on the high-way, suddenly van acted weird, all electronics going haywire, various instrument "unavailable" messages started coming, and on the highway van all systems failed, power steering locked, I pulled over and battery icon (red) came on as well. Car died. I re-jump started it and then drove again with seeing the battery fluctuating between 10. 2 v to 16v. Then when we exited the highway, this time, the van stalled right in the middle of the road. No warning, nothing. I feel this is a single point of failure that if the battery is having an issue, (though it seems alternator) was charging it, it could have caused two crashes. I am really concerned. I have had dead batteries in my other cars but nothing like that where all instruments start acting weird. Also few other weird things happening during this time: passenger windows will come down automatically again and again and again while driving. All different security features sporadically say unavailable, airbag, esc, acc, fcw etc. . This needs to be looked at as a "single point of failure" issue.
