47 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2014

Car ignition switch jumped from run to accessory or in between them. Car stopped abruptly with no indicators present on the dash board. This happened 6 or 7 times more, once while driving on the main street of my town. A dangerous situation was avoided by my wrestling the car to the curb and onto the sidewalk. I reported the fault to my local dealer as an ignition switch problem but Chrysler (factory?) had them adjust the fuel trim, reset the memory, and perform battery disconnect and capacitive discharge. This did not work! the switch still "trips" to the accessory position. Has happened several times more since the "attempted "repair.

49 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2013

Wife took son to doctors office and van ran fine. Came out of office and car would not shift out of park nor would it start. Like a dead battery. Have a brand new battery in the car so that is not the issue. After trying to start the car with a jump several times we gave up. I then tried one more time and the car started. After car was started I touched the key fob in the ignition and the car shut off. Was able to get the car to start by wiggling the fob as I turned the car over. Now on 10/04/13 car is doing the same thing except this time it did it while going down the road. Car shut off after hitting a bump in the road and I was able to coast to a stop. Luckily there were no stop signs or cars ahead of me since there is no power to the brakes. Got the car started again and it is the same way every time now. Have to giggle the fob in the ignition cylinder to get it to start. Seems to be a major safety issue here. And to find out that this is under recall for the exact same part for the 2009 models is troubling since some of the later 2008 models also have the same faulty ignition switch. Seems to me that Chrysler needs to man up to this and do the right thing.

53 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2011

Vehicle ignition switch will occasionally revert from on to off postion with an audible click and car will immediately die. This has happened with the vehicle at rest, but has also commonly occured when making left hand turns at low speed. The vehicle is left coasting in whichever direction it was pointed as power steering assist is immediately lost. I have not been killed, but its obviously a dangerous situation. Apparently a recall exists for 2010 model Chrysler town and country minivans. It should be extended to include the 2008 that I have. Its likely the same ignition part.

54 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

I have had several problems with the 2008 Chrysler minivan. Electrical, engine, ignition, etc. I even had the one door not have the sensor go off and pinch my one twins leg into the door! over the years, the ignition switch pops over and stops the car completely while driving at intermittent times. I could be going 20 miles an hour or on the highway driving at a higher rate of speed. The whole van shuts down so if you are on the highway, you can barely steer to get over (and thankfully I have been able to do so). I received a recall notice in June. It is November and my van still isn't fixed. The dealership and Chrysler know that I am having the issue and have had it. I have called and voiced my complaints. I am "number 5" in line to get the part! so, what will Chrysler do when I get rear ended or injured when my vehicle fails to operate. The van shuts off at least once a week while I am driving it. If I didn't have full, lifetime warranty, this van would have been traded in the year after I purchased it. It has been nothing but problems since I have owned it. Chrysler is not doing its job to keep people safe. They have not taken my issue seriously and brush it off as not a big deal. I have a van because I have kids. I would think that safety would be of utmost importance but it falls on deaf ears.
