2 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/15/2016

Oil consumption beyond normal. I have been researching this issue and found a wide problem for Chrysler/Jeep model years up through 2011 with the 3. 8 liter engine. There is a defect with the valve guides and seals that allows oil to be burned at a far greater rate than what the industry standard would say is normal oil consumption. With this issue it uses more than a quart per 1,000 miles. Dealer has said this is normal oil consumption. Since the guides are defective along with the seals this is causing dry start even with low miles! I am meticulous with maintenance on my vehicles, daily driven mostly highway miles approx. 30 miles daily. When the vehicle is started in the mornings you can hear the dry start to the valve train. It goes away as soon as the engine is running and oil is circulating. However you can hear the valve train is noisier than usual. I have been servicing vehicles for over 35 years now both professionally and as a hobbyist. This is clearly a design flaw to this particular engine. I personally know someone who recently had to replace their entire engine because of this issue. Even the simplest of internet searches turns this issue up. I am not the only one complaining about this issue. We would like the dealer to address this.

3 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 02/17/2016

My 2008 Town & Country burns a lot of oil. There are no leaks or wet spots under the hood or on the ground. I have to add a quart of oil every 100 miles. My research shows that a majority, if not all, of the other owners of this vehicle are experiencing the same issue. Kindly look in to issuing a recall for this problem. Thank you.

4 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Engine extremely burns oil, no leaks have been found. Car has 70mmiles however it has burned oil like this since I bought it at 28m. Miles. I have tried many oils and non have helped. 5 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/11/2015

When we bought the vehicle (at around 80k miles) we noticed that you could smell coolant at times, but were told it was nothing. When we took it in for service we were told that it was 2 quarts low on oil. I asked the shop that did the first oil change, thinking maybe they didn't do a proper job- he mentioned that this was a common issue with this year of Town & Country. I took it in for a recall- a good friend wanted to perform an oil consumption test. Come to find out, it was burning oil at a rapid rate. If I hadn't been aware & checking the oil on almost a daily basis, it could have run out & the engine seized. The burning oil causes issues with the rings as well.

6 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/23/2014

3. 8l v6 engine consumes excessive under normal driving conditions. For the last 60,000 miles this engine is consuming more and more oil between engine oil changes, now 2-3 qrts between 4,000 mile oil change. Chrysler dealer produced Chrysler document stating this normal consumption for this motor. This is not normal oil consumption for this motor under any condition. Chrysler has had thousands of complaints regarding this issue and will do nothing to resolve the problem, other to say it is normal.

11 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

Bought this car used with 64,000 miles. 3. 8 l engine. Car burns approximately 1 quart of oil for every 1000 miles driven. No leaks and no smoke. Pvc valve ok. According to my mechanic who owned the same car there is some issue with cylinders/piston rings seating and a common issue from a bad batch of manufacturing and/or rings. He tore down the engine in his van to investigate, replaced with new rings and hasn't burned a drop since. Chrysler has come out to say 1 quart per 3000 miles is normal but this is not normal.

12 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 11/20/2013

Vehicle engine completely failed. Frozen, never to turn again. Oil levels were fine, oil change religiously. Engine burned oil like crazy, but I was aware so I was on top of it. Outcome: new engine at the cost of $4000. Failure was: a piston bearing that just fell apart. Engines do not fail at 79k unless they are poorly built. Chrysler should reimburse.

There are many complaints on the web yet Chrysler has done nothing to correct this problem. Engine should not be loosing this much oil between oil changes. 14 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

My 2008 Town & Country is burning oil and I it started who knows when. I took it to the dealership and they replaced the valve cover 3 times now. It needs replaced again but they are waiting to hear from Chrysler. I think the whole van should be recalled. I bought a vehicle that was supposed to be safe and reliable not take it to get fixed every month. I shouldn't have to check the oil every 500 miles. My 1997 chevy blazer was never this much trouble. I don't think I will ever own another Chrysler again unless maybe it's free. Also the key is getting stuck in the ignition after being shut off. I have oil in my driveway and I'm stick of the repairs!.

15 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/03/2012

This van has been burning a quart of oil every 800 to 1000 miles since we first purchased it. The van now has 91,233 miles on it and the oil consumption is getting worse. The oil is burning through the engine and there are no leaks whatsoever. I have seen many many posts on a lot of sites where other people are having the same problem and Chrysler does not want to do the right thing and fix the problem. The dealerships are saying what Chrysler is telling them to say which it is normal for an engine to burn a quart of oil every 1,000 miles which is just ridiculous. I have had plenty of vehicles in my life time and even the worst beater with 250,000 miles on it never burned that much oil. This is a wide spread problem that Chrysler needs to man up and accept responsibility and repair their customers vehicles properly. Due to this problem I will never purchase a Chrysler vehicle again. I have always bought gm's and never had a problem like this.

Reoccuring excessive oil consumption. Had 4 oil consumptions test done. Test on 6/8/12 failed. Burned 3 quarts of oil in 2589 miles. Filed lemon law in Feb 2012 for excessive oil consumption and other issues that have been repaired more than 3x. Chrysler has denied the lawsuit. Seeking further actions against Chrysler at this time. Van is currently at dealership undergoing oil compression and leak down test as advised by Chrysler. Dealership is not returning phone calls and will not tell me results of test. Dealership states they are waiting for further response from Chrysler. I have been provided a rental car per extended warranty coverage. Van has been repaired more than 30 times for multiple issues & recalls since possesion at 176 miles.
