Tl the contact owns a 2013 Chrysler town and country. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. Once the vehicle was restarted, it operated normally. The contact took the vehicle to freehold Jeep & Chrysler (4304 route 9 south freehold, NJ 07728, (732)-780-2900) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was 92,000.

Oil filter housing has pressure relief valve along plastic shaft that guides up through oil filter. This valve or shaft can break off causing catastrophic engine failure. Pressure relief valve can cause the engine to remain in the bypass start up phase. Not only that, but upon servicing said vehicle this shaft can break off or the valve can pop out of socket, leaving said vehicle immobilized. This issue can be found in any 3. 6 liter Chrysler engine built between model years 2011-2013. Many oil filter suppliers have sent out bulletins on said issue. It is a liability on any technician that services said vehicle.

We've had a sporadic, reoccurring problem where the engine shuts down while driving down the road. The van will lose acceleration, the power steering fails, (at least one time the power brakes failed as well) and the traction control light illuminates. As these happen, you realize that they were caused because the engine has just performed an uncommanded (by the driver) shutdown. Unfortunately, none of these symptoms are necessarily immediately obvious. For instance, when traveling straight (not using power steering), at low speeds (not accelerating), the first indication of failure is that the traction control light has illuminated. The far more concerning issue is when you realize that the engine (and systems) has failed while attempting to turn through an intersection. After the engine fails it will restart immediately. The issue is controlling the vehicle -after losing power steering, the ability to accelerate, traction control, and brakes - through the failure, in traffic, often on contaminated roads (rain, snow, or ice are common fall through early spring where we live) to be able to safely restart the engine. This problem began two years ago. It happened a few times in the winter over a couple week span and then went away. The next fall (8-9) months later it began doing it again. The occurrences this time were more frequent. We were told by the dealership that they were unable to duplicate our failures due to the intermittent nature of the problem. After a several weeks, the failures stopped. Now at the end of summer, it's been probably 9-10 months since the last occurrence, it has started again. Several occurrences in the last week. From what we can remember, the failures occur with the first several minutes of the trip (sometimes more than one within a few minutes) and usually at lower speeds. We can't remember an event above 40 mph.

The contact took the vehicle to friendship Ford (3192 w state st, bristol, TN 37620, (423) 652-6200) to be diagnosed, but a failure code could not be found. The dealer also test drove the vehicle and was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact also took the vehicle to an independent mechanic, but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was not available.
Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph, the engine failed. The vehicle was able to restart. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the wireless ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000. Jw.
Took delivery of a brand new 2013 Chrysler town and country touring van with 4 miles on it on Thursday, June 20, 2013. Drove it home approximately 10 miles. Took it out for the first ride on Saturday June 22, 2013 and while driving, engine failed without warning and I lost all power to vehicle. Started it back up and vehicle did this again. Continued to start up and shut down without warning about four times. Called road side assistance and car was towed back to dealership. Service department can not duplicate the problem. Corporate office is of no help. Without fixing the problem, this will happen again. This is a serious problem that can cause a serious or fatal accident and Chrysler has not addressed the problem. They did recall their prior models for this exact problem - recall #72674. The problem is continuing with their newer models but Chrysler does not seem interested. Meanwhile, I have a brand new vehicle sitting at the dealership less than a week old that I am afraid to drive my family in. There have been over 57 reports in the Chrysler town and country forum of this exact problem - some involving accidents with children as passengers. Chrysler is selling unsafe vehicles putting children at risk of serious harm. I can provide the names of all the people I spoke with at Chrysler - their customer service unit, and their top care unit - along with all those I am dealing with at the dealership. I have a meeting with the dealership Monday, July 1st. However, unless the problem is fixed, this vehicle remains unsafe to drive. I have put Chrysler on notice, the dealership and now you, that this vehicle is unsafe and can cause serious injury to the passengers and other innocent drivers. Please do not wait for a fatality to investigate this.
Spurious engine failures. Has happened approximately 10 times in past year. Engine loses power (chugs) then quits completely. No problem restarting engine and continuing. Dealer unable to duplicate problem.

On 6/14/2006, we were driving our 2003 Chrysler Town & Country on a 4 lane highway when we experienced an engine knock and loss of power. Luckily, we were able to safely get the vehicle off the roadway. Upon checking the oil, it was found to be "full" and transparent on the dipstick. Subsequently, the vehicle was towed to a Chrysler 5 star dealer where diagnostics were performed. The vehicle has approximately 50,000 miles on the original engine and is covered by the manufacturers 7 year, 70000 mile power train warranty. The dealership determined that the engine failed "due to lack of maintenance", with a buildup of sludge in the engine. We were bewildered by this pronouncement, as we had always done all scheduled preventative maintenance on this vehicle. We asked that the oil pan not be dumped and that a sample of oil be tested, as the last oil change was within the last 250 miles and they were claiming that the "oil was filthy". We were told that we would need to provide the dealer with 5 documented oil changes, and we told them that wouldn't be a problem. We were able to fax to them within 28 hours, the 5 documented oil changes they requested, and also let them know that more would be forthcoming. Before the additional documentation was provided to the dealer, our warranty claim was denied on 6/16/2006. We again explained that more documentation of further oil changes was forthcoming and we were very concerned that this claim was being denied. Additional documentation was faxed to the dealer verifying oil changes roughly every 3000 miles. We have proof of 17 documented oil changes in 50,000 miles - more than required. Again, our warranty claim has been denied. Chrysler has a history of engines failing at roughly the same mileage, blaming the consumer for "lack of maintenance" and then denying the warranty claims despite proof of maintenance. Something catastrophic happened to this engine, and it has nothing to do with maintenance.
