Van was sitting still and went to start. Loud noise and vibration came from engine compartment. Popped hood and found alternator broke loose from mountings. Alternator mounting on the timing chain cover broke off. Took to shop to get repair evaluated. Chrysler has since modified the timing chain cover from original design. This modification requires new timing sprockets and chains. Possible design flaw in original design? repair is almost as much as the vehicle current value.

I noticed at approximately 48,000 miles that my 2008 Town & Country was burning oil during use with no visible oil leaks after taking the vehicle in for an oil change. The mechanic stated that the vehicle was 3 quarts of oil low when checked before draining the oil. I have been checking the oil once per month since. The vehicle now has about 73,000 miles on it and is burning approximately 1 quart of oil each 1500 miles driven. I have never owned a vehicle with this problem and have read other complaints on this site of this same issue. I am lucky that I caught the issue before serious engine damage and repairs were required like some of the other respondents. This issue should be considered for recall or extended coverage in the event that serious issues occur. Other issues I have experienced during my ownership of this vehicle I purchased new are the premature failure of the front hubs and premature wear of the brake components. The front hubs have failed on each side 3 times already in the 73,000 miles and now the drivers side hub is making a loud noise again signaling that it will need to be replaced soon. I have never had this issue with any vehicle that I have owned. To have it happen for the 4th time prior to 100,000 miles would seem to be a defect. The brake components seem to wear out every 15,000 miles and the rotors require replacement each time the pads wear out. This seems to be a quality issue with the parts both new and replacement.

The steering did not respond and vehicle kept moving in straight direction. 5. She tried to stop the vehicle by applying the brakes repeatedly with no response. 6. She also tried to steer vehicle towards empty space with no result. 7. She put the transmission in parking; it made some loud noise but did not stop the vehicle. 8. There was a steel gate right in front about 40-50 yards from where she started. The vehicle crashed in the gate and stopped. No one was injured. There was damage to the steel gate and the vehicle. 9. The vehicle was towed to body shop of golling Chrysler Jeep in bloomfield hills, michigan 12. Next morning (March 10th), ms sheila from golling Chrysler body shop called me . As per her, the fuel pump of the vehicle has problems and that explains the problem with braking and steering system. She was not able to explain how the engine restarted after stalling and vehicle moved if the fuel pump was broken. She also indicated the vehicle did not start at dealership. There was roughly about $2,000 dollar of body damage. 13. Chrysler has initiated an internal special investigation. I have received no results of investigation or any help for the hardship being faced.
The car was brought to david ellis for a brake repair on 8/21/00. The car made a noise while driving and a loud noise when braking. Also the pedal did not feel right. They replaced the front pads, rotors, wheel cylinders and the master cylinder. They had to repalce the master cylinder twice while they had it under repair. The morning after I picked up the car, it wouldn't accelerate, it was revving very loud and with very high rpms and then it began to smoke and smell. When I got out of the car I observed flames shooting out of the front wheel. Chrysler has inspected and says they do not know the cause of the fire. They are willing to fix the fire damage but they cannot "fix" the cause of the fire because they do not know what the cause is. I do not feel the car is safe to drive unless they can pinpoint the cause and have it repaired or replaced. They are also refusing to return the parts to me, and I have told them that I need to have them inspected for future litigation. They claim that they will be sending them to Chrysler, who has also refused to return them to me.
