2 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/25/2021

The power sliding door lock actuator failed. It's a common issue with these minivans. When it fails you cannot open the door from the inside or outside. The actuator failing results often with the door locking. You cannot manually unlock it, it's jammed lock. The only way to get it unlocked is by removing the door panel. This is a serious safety concern as the egress is locked shut. Should the lock fail during an accident, fire, etc. People can become trapped in their vehicle. Chrysler wants over $1,000 to fix it.

3 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/24/2021

Car started to make a funny noise while driving and upon trying to pull over the car reached number 8 rpm's but wasn't accelerating. Then it jerked forward as I finally was able to shut it off. I was stuck on the side of the road with four kids in the car. Towed to dealer and said a new transmission and transmission cooler are required for repair. The extended warranty I purchased for 75,000 miles is no longer valid and just expired as there are 77,000 miles on the car. Also the drivers side rear sliding door is stuck will not open manually or otherwise. This was discovered when trying to open the door while stationary to load kids in back.

4 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2015 Chrysler Town & Country

I have already replaced driver side July 2020 am in process of repairing passenger side Jan-fen 2021. Secondly side doors do not always shut securely and keep clicking like they are stuck and will not latch. Does this on both sides must get out and manually shut the doors a few times to get it secured. The side door on driver side did have to have electrical repaired in 2020 as the door shut and would not reopen at all. This repair was done by my mechanic.

5 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/24/2020

On December 24, 2020 our right passenger side rear door malfunctioned and ended up trapping my toddlers head in between the door and vehicle frame. It was incredibly traumatic for all involved. Though the incident likely lasted less than a minute, it was a terrifying frantic minute in which I tried everything to get the door open as it continued to try and close on our baby who was screaming in pain and terror. It took all of my strength to manually pry open the door to release his head. We brought the vehicle to our local dealership to be looked over, assuming a malfunctioning sensor of some sort. They did diagnostics and reported no codes were evident and they could not replicate the malfunction. Then last night 12/30/2020 the left rear passenger door experienced a similar malfunction and began closing on my child. My husband was forced to manually rip the door off of our child to avoid similar injury. In the process, plastic pieces of the track were dislodged and the door is no longer operational. In this instance, loss of electrical functioning on that side is a blessing as the doors are malfunctioning and otherwise present significant danger to our family as no obvious code defects have been able to be detected yet. However the right rear door and the back hatch remain operational and therefore a potential danger. Both times the vehicle was stationary.

7 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/03/2020

One day the rear passenger door would not open with fob or inside controls. It also would not unlock although the other doors would. We tried manually pressing the lock lever but it would not budge. After repeatedly unlocking/locking through the fob, it was finally able to open. However, now when it locks, it makes a loud short buzzing sound. This also happens when I first start driving (engaging automatic door lock above a certain speed). From what I've read online as reported by others, it appears to be the door lock actuator.

8 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2015 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/01/2020

The drivers side rear sliding door (automatic) does not fully latch, especially during hot days. It continues to try and fully latch until I manually close it by hitting the area where the latch is with a hip or fist. At times it will set off the alarm while stationary if the doors are locked as the door will even attempt to open on it's own. Based on other reports I've read of people having this same problem, their doors have even unlatched when driving. This is a major concern as it poses a safety hazard and based on research I've conducted it's a known problem for this model year. Please send to Chrysler. Thank you!.

16 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 04/08/2019

18 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

Took car to hilltop Chrysler on12/3/18for recall. Was told that the part had to be ordered,it was on back order. Called back a few days later and was told it was still on backorder. Ray had no sense of urgency because this is a serious recall that involves the engine shutting off while driving. I then contacted you guys and spoke with a young lady who was dynamic in helping me out. She called the dealership and found that ray made a mistake and ordered the wrong part. The recall was finally done on the 12/18/18,(gus) but a couple days later I started to noticed that the driver side door lock wouldn't respond to the key fob and neither did my lift gate. The keyfob is supposed to be programmed to work with my car and it's not communicating properly. I took it to the michael stead hilltop dealership this morning 1/3/19 to have them take a look and was told that I had to pay a diagnostic fee by the service advisor. He stated that they get people coming back after a recall saying this and that is broken and want it repaired. He also brought the"master tech"out to explain to us. The tech stated that he knows they did nothing wrong because the recall had nothing to do with the doors, it's connected to the tire pressure light. He said the recall was to fix it where the key wouldn't fall out of the ignition. (not what the recall was about)he also stated that even after programming the key fob to work with the car, it would be a coincidence that the driver lock and gate lift doesn't work and we would still have to pay for the repair. He started to talk about the recall was to do with bcm he implied that,we did something wrong and something to do with time frame(don't know what a bcm is) prior to the recall we had no key fob and had to manually open with a key and lock the doors by pushing the button down. All doors including the gate worked and with buttons that automatically opens&close.

19 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

Passanger side sliding door will not lock. The lock itself is stuck in lock position. But it will not move by any power device. And will not budge by manual. All doors will lock but that one. There are many youtube videos showing this issue. Saying it is the actuator.

20 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/31/2018

The locks failed on our sliding doors and failed in the locked position. The lock cannot be operated manually. The doors are stuck locked and passengers are unable to open the door. This is a safety issue as passengers cannot escape the vehicle in the event of an emergency.

21 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/24/2018

Vehicle was stationary and parked for hours in the driveway. For no reason the alarm went off on my car. Found key fob to shut off alarm. Daughter went to see what happened, then came to tell me there was smoke coming from my rear passenger sliding door. Went outside and heard noise that door was trying to open. Used key fob to try to unlock door. Tried to manually open door. Door wouldn't open and smoke continued. Didn't know if fire was inside door and was parked by garage so called 911 to put out potential fire. Concerned that there was electrical problem so continued to park car in street not close to house. Called Chrysler customer service and they said they would send an investigator due to concern of fire. Dealer said problem was due to a broken door latch and mechanical assembly mechanism needed to be replaced in addition to door handle for $1200, but didn't want to get work done until I got the information from the investigation. About 3 weeks later got a letter from Chrysler special investigations. They said due to the age and mileage of my vehicle, there are a number of factors outside the manufacturer's control that could have been contributed to your incident. Not happy with the explanation from dealer or investigator. Why did the alarm go off? and car door decide to open for no reason and the latch was apparantly broke at same time? even though there were no issues the night before with using the door. And what caused the smoke and potential fire? reading other complaints now wondering if problem was/is the tipm total integrated power module?.

22 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/23/2018

The door locks to the sliding door for the driver side has permanently locked is self and it cannot be manually up-locked. The door cannot be opened from the inside or outside and there is not key hole to even allow me to try a key to unlock it. Also the passenger side appears to start going out so soon I will have 2 doors that don't open and potentially could trap anyone in the back of the car.

23 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

Power sliding doors on Chrysler/Dodge vehicles are locked and there's no way (electrical or manual) to unlock and open the door. In case of and an accident would be very difficult to evacuate people from inside the vehicle if the sliding doors are locked and have no way to unlock. I've owned 2006 and 2010 Chrysler/Dodge minivans with the same problem on driver and passenger sliding doors.

24 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 02/12/2017

I used the button on my key fob to open the power lift gate. Once the door was open enough I started to place two items n the rear of the minivan. Rather than stopping at the top when open, the door stuttered a moment at the fully open position and then slammed forcibly shut on my head. The blow nearly knocked me out. I was not able to manually open the door. Each attempt to open the door with the key fob had the same type of result. The door would reach the top, stutter and then forcibly slam shut. I am glad it was me and not my wife or daughter. I did not seek medical attention, but did experience dizziness for several hours afterwards.

25 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/16/2016

When using overhead console button or key fob to open the rear lift gate when the vehicle is in park, engine running or not - no difference- the automatic gate will open fully and then close immediately on anyone standing under it trying to access the cargo area. When opening the lift gate manually it will open fully but will not remain open without someone holding it open or putting some type of block in the mechanism. The lift gate malfunction is quite hazardous as it will come down on top of a person and will not stop if anything is in the way, such as an appendage or a child.

27 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

Randomly closes the powered doors and doesn't stop when obstructed, several trips to the dealer and no issues found. Always when in park and with all 3 methods of opening the door, fod, manually and interior button. Warning lights keep coming off and on (check engine and tire pressure low) but service shop says no issue. Autostart doesn't work much of the time but service center says when check engine light is on it won't. I autostarted my car but it wouldn't let me press the brakes, push the start button, put it in drive to operate the vehicle then it died. I was able to start again but it immediately died again several times. I was tehn locked in and the lights and horn kept flashing, the locks would not unlock. It very frequently does not detect the key and will randomly beep that the key is not detected while driving and will not start at all with the key in hand.

28 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/25/2014

Chrysler notified me of a recall (recall l25) in summer of 2014. The defect causes my vehicle to shut-off, sometimes at high speeds. It also causes electrical malfunctions on things such as the air bags, radio, the trip-tronic manual shifting system. It has been 9 months, and Chrysler has maintained this entire time that parts are not available to repair this problem. I think this is an unacceptable amount of time for a factory defect to not be corrected. It is dangerous for me and my family to drive in a vehicle that suddenly turns off on the highway, that changes from an automatic transmission to a manual shifting vehicle by itself, and whose airbags turn off, and may not deploy should an accident occur.

29 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

The keys system would not lock/unlock the car consistently. Manual operation of unlocking/locking the car was the work around. Subsequently the ignition or wireless remote system has gone bad which now affects the igntion displaying a "bad key" and solution is to replace the entire wireless remote system. The wireless remote system controls the ignition, the doors, the engine.

30 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2012 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/09/2013

When it is cold and icy the sliding doors are inoperable, either manually or electronically. If you are outside you cannot get in, if you are inside you are stuck there unless you are agile enough to crawl over the front seats. Hopefully in an accident the doors would break loose. My dealer was unable to suggest any resolution to the problem.

31 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

The manual door lock on the sliding door will not unlock. Both automatically or manually. It does this intermittently. My van is a wheelchair van and the sliding door is my only means of exit. I had a wheelchair van mechanic take the whole locking mechanism apart and he discovered there was a flaw in the design of the door actuator. He made a modification and it worked. This is a big problem in all year models of the Chrysler Town & Country vans. In an emergency situation, there is no way of opening the door. The manual lock sticks in the locked position and will not release, even under force. Chrysler is well aware of this problem. Chrysler could at least address the problem and make a retrofit part for these doors.
