My 2009 Chrysler town and country 4 liter engine stopped dead 3/4 mile after leaving home in the morning. I was doing 15 mph at the time. Everything stopped working, I. E. , the power steering was unmovable and the power brakes were non-responsive. Because it happened in a curve, I ended up in the oncoming lane on a single lane road. Luckily there was no car in that lane. In addition, the heating and cooling system and the radio also stopped. The dashboard went dark. There was total silence. After about 45 seconds I restarted the car with no problems. I drove the car to the nearest Chrysler dealer whose service advisor asked whether or not a check engine light came on after the event so that he could get the failure code. The light did not come on. The dealer's service advisor said that he could not fix the problem without the failure code. I have driven the minivan for the last 10 days with no problems. Now I am uncertain if and when this event will happen again and am concerned about my safety in the future.
11/2/11 while parked & running idle, van shuts off and all power is lost. After 15 min the van finally starts. However, after driving 200 feet it loses power again. Road side service jumps the battery, all seems to operate normally. Over the next couple of days the same thing happens many times. 11/8/11 a new battery is installed. (starter & alternator pass tests) new battery van still losses power when running idle parked/in operation(at traffic light). Frequency increases and eventually van loses power/ stalls while driving. At times van is able to start up right away, other times it has to sit for a few min. Some warning or indication that system may fail, van may shutter a bit/rpm gage needle fluctuates wildly. Another new glitch, the door power locks and power door locks alarm. Power door locks stop working 2/12. Fuse is replaced. Problem is fixed temp, locks stop working days later. Fuse is removed and reseated. Power locks work but only for a short period of time. This process is repeated several times. Battery cable is taken off in hopes of resetting power module but upon reconnecting cable, battery has no life. End result, battery is replaced, tests are run again on starter/alternator, they pass. Van runs okay for about a day, locks stop working again. Next door open alarm and interior lights are set off repeatedly. As of today all issues are still present but seem to come and go. Service/repairs since April 2011, brake system flush 2-11, coolant system 2-11, tune up 2-11, oil/filter 2/11, reconditioned trans/ rebuilt torque converter 4/11, muffler 5/11, solenoid and evap harness 6/11, oil/filter 7/11, gaskets/lower intake manifold 9/11, radiator 9/11, rear cooling hose 9/11, battery 11/11, thermostat 11/11, intake manifold and valve cover 11/11, crank shaft position sensor 11/11, oil/filter 11/11, fuel filter 2/12, tune up 2/12, oil/filter 2/12, battery 3/12.

Poor engineering on the hoses already had 4 hoses leak at crimps on cooling system and power steering system this should be a warranty recall with only 70,000 miles never seen anything like this.

Along with the many others that I have read about, I too have experienced the loss of coolant from a poorly designed and protected coolant tube made of poor quality, non-rustprotected, sheetmetal that runs under the car to deliver coolant to the rear seat heating core. I guess I am lucky, as mine took 6 years to fail and be replaced by an aluminum, non-corrosive or rusting replacement tube at the cost of $448. 00. It would only make common sense that this part be recalled by Chrysler and replaced for free due to their negligence in design and lack of thought of cars that reside in areas of the country that corrosive elements are used in the winter to make roads safer to remove ice. They just won't face up to the fact it was a very poor design to use low quality metal that will rust out. I have been a Chrysler customer since the 1970's (71 duster, 86 dodger lancer ES, 90 lebaron convert, 91 Plymouth voyager, 96 Dodge caravan ES, 98 sebring convert, 01 Town & Country, 03 sebring convert) and this will be my last Chrysler as I am ready to replace my 01 t&c, but I have seen quality and care of loyal customers seriously decline since 03. I will replace my t&c with a Honda passport or Hyundai entourage or Buick enclave. When the latest purchaser of Chrysler corp. Finds out how many customers they have lost due to their attitude toward a former loyal customer base, they too will be selling Chrysler just like Mercedes Benz did last year. With the great reputation for respecting their customers and large bank roll that Toyota has, our "big 3" could be all owned by offshore finances and referred to as "the big one". A word for people considering buying a used Chrysler product Mini van, stay away from those with rear heat & a/c, as it will only be an added expense of 4-600 dollars in the future for something you have no means to prevent or protect or are even made aware of by Chrysler/car dealers.

The rear heater lines failed due to corrosion. My van is only 4 years old and is well maintained. I found out today that Chrysler issued a recall on 2005 and newer models to replace the heater lines because they will prematurely corrode and leak. However, they will not do anything for me. I had to pay a dealership $540. 00 to replace the lines because they failed due to corrosion.
