After having problems with the seat belts in the rear seat of our minivan, being that they don't' unlatch at certain times as well as the fact that at times when trying to latch them, they won't latch until much difficulty, I did a search for information on them, and find that these seat belts are dangerous (gen 3) I called the dealer to ask about having them replaced and they said there wasn't anything they could do as they would just be the same (version) put back in. I want the seat belt replaced as I have 5 children and often have them in this vehicle, it is unfortunately not likely that we can afford to have the car replaced at this time, or we certainly would.

I was forced to brake suddenly and the car seat my 4 year old daughter was buckeled into went flying into the back of the passenger seat. The problem is that the seat belts in the 1998 Dodge Caravan are easily depressed by a game boy, dolls or my older daughter either buckeling or unbuckeling her booster seat. I've found my 4 year olds strap in car seat unbuckeled at least 6 times in the past 4 years. Had we been in a serious accident rather than just a sudden braking my daughter would have been severly injured.

Rear shoulder seat belts did not work properly. The automatic locking retractor for the shoulder belts did not lock properly. Dealer examined the belts and could not explain why the retractor did not lock. Rear seat belts doesn't lock when brakes are activated.
The belt latches regularly unlatch when bumped. I have two children in car seats in the back seat and if one child bumps the other's belt latch, it comes unlatched most of the time.

Iwould like to place a complaint about the gen3 seatbelts. I just read an article on the possible danger that these belts pose. We have a 2002 Dodge Caravan and a 2004 Chrysler town & country and it's very upsetting that daimler Chrysler is not taking action.
I own a 1996 Dodge Caravan and just learned of the hazards with gen3 seat belts. I have three children ages 1, 10, and 12 years. I am very concerned about my toddlers carseat being properly installed and am counting on the seat belt keeping my baby safe during an accident.
Consumer was upset because all four back seat belts did not work. There were passengers in the rear seats who could not buckle in safely. Consumer wanted to withdraw the complaint. Consumer was unaware as to how the system was suppose to work in the Caravan. The dealer was contacted who informed the consumer that the seat belts do not lock when puled manually.
The rear seat belt buckles do not latch. The consumer stated while driving, the rear seat belt which was holding a child safety seat became unbuckled.
My child's car seat came unattached this summer and fell over. I thought someone had detach the seatbelt but apparently I was wrong.

I have a 2000 Dodge Caravan that my 2-year-old grandson frequently rides in. His parents are very diligent about installing car seats correctly and securely. Since my van contains your defective gen 3 seatbelts, what good is it going to do if the car seat is installed properly? can you guarantee, in writing, your seatbelt will not open and my grandson or other rear seat passengers will not be injured or killed? luckily, there have not been any incidents. Does the public have to wait until there are "enough" deaths for you to take care of this problem?.
I was just made aware of the fact that my 2003 Dodge Caravan has the gen. 3 seat belts in the rear seats. I have three children and their safety is imperative. My 4 year old son has accidentally bumped my 2 year old's car seat at least ten times, opening the gen 3 seat belt. . . Thereby making my daughter unsafe.

The rear seat belts did not lock.
The guides that the rear seat belts run through are "melting" so the rear seat belts do not go through the guides as they should. We have stopped using them because they would fail in an accident because they will not retract securely on a passenger.
While driving at 35mph plastic sound burier patch came loose and dropped into rear out seat belt assembly, causing seat belt not to work. Contacted dealer, recall on this part doesn't affect consumer due to VIN.
Consumer is having a problem with the rear lap seat belt, the belt does lock and unlocks with difficulty.
Consumer states rear-seat shoulder-harness seat belts (both left and right) are jammed. Enabling passenger to extend the seat belts out from the opening in the over the should interior roof trim. Dealer found adhesive / insulation from the headlinder had melted onto the seatbelts. Updated.
