36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2018

2006 Dodge Charger daytona r/t 5. 7 hemi valve seat dropped at 144k miles. Always dealer serviced. Always on schedule, plugs, oil air filter everything. Issue leading up to it was random multiple cylinder misfire stemming from faulty water temp sensor, which was fixed. Dropped valve seat when briefly turning of vehicle after dropping family home prior to going to work. Motor needs to be replaced. Just prior to failure spent around $4k to make sure the car was running perfect. Mechanic had told me the car was in perfect running order and compression was like it was almost brand new. Engine should have easily made it to 250k miles. Contacted Chrysler who pretty much lied and told me this was not a common occurrence. Dealer was not willing to help me towards the repair. If this valve seat dropped 30 seconds earlier, it would have locked up in the middle of the freeway putting the lives of my family and myself at risk. This is a widespread and known issue and Chrysler is not doing anything about it. This is a disgrace.

Has a blown motor and after having it checked by a mechanic it has been determine and told to me that it was a bad design from Dodge this particular year with the Charger engines because of the plastic cave seats melting and not allowing the oil to flow to the bottom half of engine and causing severe damage like my engine. I need to know if this is a recall item even if it a remanufact item. Please reply to me at mmarvel009@comcast. Net.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2017

My 2006 Dodge Charger completely died on me while driving at 40 mph. Luckily I was alone on a city road but lost all control and felt I was barley braking and steering was near impossible. I was able turn everything off in the car and restart but it happened 3 other times within 2 miles. At one point while turning left on a highway it died; I was almost to a point to hitting other cars turning left in same direction and others behind me. I was able to drive 4 miles today without incident however after researching this exact issue among other Charger owners I searched for a recall and nothing has been said by Dodge. This issue doesn't seem to be from personal actions but a flaw in a system on this make/model. It has happened to me twice before a few years ago however I read something about a gas cap and felt it was isolated. After last night and reading blogs today I see that this is a wide spread issue and not caused by not maintaining a vehicle or bad driving. This is an issue in design or manufacturing. Had this happened in any other driving setting during rush hour someone could be seriously injured or killed. I notified Dodge and reported the issue but they said I would not be contacted and to keep receipts if something was wrong in case they do recall something. Why hasn't this been corrected after all these reports for the same issue to this many of the same vehicles? this has been happening since I reported it in Jan of 2017 on safercar. Gov. No action or contact has been made.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2016

As per Dodge/Chrysler mechanic, #4 cylinder valve seat dropped and internally destroyed my 5. 7 hemi engine.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2016

(dropped valve seat) I was on my way to lunch when I realized I left an item in my desk that was needed. I turned around and headed back to the office. I parked my car, ran back in to the office and returned to my vehicle within 5 minutes. When I tried to start my engine, it would not start. I ended up having to get the car towed to my local machine shop. My mechanic told me that a valve seat dropped and the engine needed replacement. My mechanic was quite knowledgeable about these kinds of problems. As he stated that it happened very often with Dodge hemi 5. 7 engines. He stated that the valve seats were made of poor metal material. He also stated that Chrysler was very aware of the defect and what it can cause. I did my research online and found hundreds of threads with people that experienced the same problem. Needless to say, I had to buy a brand new engine and several other engine parts that failed due to this catastrophe. Not to mention major labor costs.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

The first time my motor failed I was driving on the freeway 70mph and someone cut me off I hit the brakes good enough to barely avoid them crashing into me , when I tried to push the throttle immediately after the motor started jumping back and forth like it wanted to jump out of the engine bay , took it to Dodge and they said two of my cylinders were only running at half the compression meaning I had a valve issue like these cars are well known to have now. Well $5,000 later I got my car back from Dodge with one head replaced , just about 60k miles later the other head failed on me and traveled into my other head destroying that one and my pistons , just spent $9,000 to have the motor replaced and not even a 1,000 miles later I'm having the same issue . This is unacceptable I still owe money on the car and I've spent upwards of $14,000 to keep this car running . It's left me with no way to get me to work it's left me stranded I've lost a job because I couldn't be there I've missed out on opportunities in life because of this car I'm 23 years old and this has been going on 4 years now . I make minimum wage work 50hrs a week this car has taken a years worth of salary from me and made my life so stressful I can not stress this enough , this has made my life very difficult in these past 4 years . . . The car is currently down because cylinder #2 only has about 90psi and I don't know why to do anymore . . . I have no car I walk or take the bus to work everyday I can not do this much longer . .

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2016

The Dodger Charger rt has been the worse vehicle I have ever paid for. My Charger is only at 80,000 miles and the Charger has been maintained properly. The transmission has issues with going over 50 mph and the engine now knocks. I am just siting here trying to figure out how a vehicle at 80,000 have this many issues.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2016

My 2006 Dodge Charger daytona 5. 7l engine had a problem with a valve seal/lifter / solenoid in 2015, which was repaired by the dealer in December. Now, 7 months later, it has lost a piston in the engine, and needs a new engine. When the lifter problem occurred, the car was being driven, and started to misfire. When the piston went (the dealer says that is what it is), the engine was being started. When starting the vehicle, it misfired, and started clanking. And then died.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2015

I have had my 2006 Dodge Charger rt for just over a year and have kept all the oil changes and fluid filled. I had no issue other than a bad fuel tank out of the car, until I was on the highway heading to work when I heard what sounded like a pop. Then my vehicle lost all power. I barely made it to work where I had to get it towed. I later found out it had dropped a valve seat and that Dodge would charge me over $8000 to repair my vehicle. I will include a link that shows this is a manufacturing issue. The block and valve seat was made from two different metals that expand at different rates and lengths. I have tried contacting Dodge to no luck. This should be seriously investigated because it is costing Dodge consumers thousands when it was avoidable by pinning the valve seats or using the same metals. Dodge has went thru and pinned the valve seats in motors their manufacturing, so they know it's an issue but are not helping the consumers who paid for this product prior to them fixing it. . Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the contact discovered smoke coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. The contact pulled over and lifted the hood of the vehicle and discovered white smoke coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and was diagnosed that the one of the pistons in the engine had seized and the entire engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 124,000. Sw.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2015

Drove to a dentist appointment, came out, started car, it made a loud boom then shut down. Tried starting again, no bueno, wouldn't start. Had it towed to a Dodge dealership. They say oil is not going into the pistons. Cylinder is shot, needs new engine. It's been sitting at the shop for over a month now. Really. . . A new engine that's gonna cost me $8,000 no warning, no sensors. . . . Nothing! just had car service a few months prior.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

I was driving around with some friends one night and stopped to talk to them for a minute. I drove around the block and turned the car off. When I went to start the car, it wouldn't start and when it finally did, it shook violently and shut off. It turns out that the car dropped a valve seat and ruined the motor of the car. Upon further research this is a very common problem in the 5. 7 hemi in the Chargers. I have several friends that have had the exact same issue with their Charger.

66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

The other night I was driving my car, and everything was fine. I parked to get gas, tried to start it back up and completely died out. I had to be towed back home, while working on the car to figure what was going on, I found metal all inside of my oil. What had happened is the motor dropped a valve and got crushed causing catastrophic failure, and now I must buy a whole new engine. While researching this for 30 minutes I have found many other stories and pictures of the same issue with other people. Why no one has acknowledged this issue, I have no idea. But it has affected many people and left many people stranded. I am extremely upset with this seeing that I just bought this car and I already have to drop a new motor in. Nhtsa needs to acknowledge this issue because it is affecting thousands of models.

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

When I fill up with fuel I can make it out of the parking lot and to the intersection an the car will die. And then it won't start for a while and it spits and sputters.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2014

When driving the engine will suddenly shut down with no fore warning. The gas peddle will go to the floor, all steering functions will be removed. The vehicle locks from 70 to 0 in a matter of seconds!!! shortly after the vehicle will restart. Thus far, numerous mechanics has not been able to discover the problem.

69 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2014

When driving @40mph, engine lost power, dash signaled 'ding', and throttle body warning light illuminated. It restarted as the car coasted. Has repeated numerous times, including today, 3 times in less than 1 1/2 miles, at less than 20mph. No trouble codes scanned or displayed. Symptom went away for 1 1/2 months after changing out spark plugs, as a Dodge tech recommended. He also says the ignition coils deteriorate over time, and the internal shielding does not keep stray 'noise' from travelling into the engine controller, effectively resetting it, and showing no codes. Having 8 factory coils to replace at $55 each is quite a gamble that may not fix the issue. Aftermarket coils apparently do not fix this, either. I have tightened every electrical grounding point I can find on the car, unplugged/plugged numerous connectors to reseat them. This is a very dangerous safety issue, and it appears on '06 and some 07 Chargers. If this happens and a collision occurs because of this, I will seek full legal remedy from fca(Chrysler) as this is an obvious liability/safety issue.

70 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2014

After filling up my car with gas, I pulled out of the gas station and as I was coming to a stop at a traffic light the car started to jerk as if was going to shut off. This is the 3rd time I have had this issue.
