I am wondering if I have any further actions that are available to me for a recall situation. My car had a recall for the timing chain and I had the recall performed in 2014. A few weeks ago while on the highway during rush hour in a snow storm the timing chain failed and destroyed my engine. I had seconds to negotiate my lane and get to safety which I could not. The back of my vehicle was still sticking out of the right lane. I was informed by the state patrol I caused several accidents behind me and my vehicle was also almost struck by a semi truck. I do not drive my vehicle year round so between 2014 and now the vehicle had less than 20,000 miles put on it with the new timing chain. I contacted Dodge and they informed me the new timing chain had a warranty of only 2 years so all subsequent damage was my responsibility. I am making the assumption the correct chain was not put on my vehicle during the recall repair or was never changed at all. The vehicle had a total of 54,000 miles on it and according to all the forums, this is typically within the mileage the chain fails and under the exact conditions of which I was driving. The vehicle has been well maintained and has no extenuating circumstances that should have led to a catastrophic engine failure. Now Dodge wants to charge me $5,000 for the engine repair which was caused from the timing chain they supposedly installed.

After dropping my daughter at school that day in my car, I went home and parked the vehicle in my driveway. When I went to pick her up that afternoon my car would not turn over. It never left my driveway before it was towed to a mechanic. Dodge hemi 5. 7 l are notorious for premature engine failure due to a manufacturing defect. The valve seat drops into the piston causing catastrophic and sudden engine failure. The reason for my complaint has nothing to do with the cost involved to replace my transportation. The damage has been said and done. The reason for this complaint is the thought that my car's engine happened to fail minutes before my daughter was in the car. Honestly, if the engine failure would have happened while the car was in motion, whether it be it in a 20 mph school zone or on the freeway at 70 mph to her favorite store to get a treat after school; I probably would've not known what to do. This defect could have very well caused a wreck hurting me my eight-year-old daughter and possibly other people. I truly just don't want this to happen to someones little girl or anybody. Can you please research and investigate this problem before someone is killed or hurt? it's just not right and Dodge is holding no responsibility. Thank you for your time.

Drove the car to get a car wash. Car went through the cleaning process and they were going to start to the car and it wouldn't start. Had to have it pushed to the side of the building, after a while the car started but idled very rough and blueish smoke was coming out of the exhaust pipes. Took it to a mechanic and they said it's a blown head gasket along with valves dropping into the cylinder causing engine failure. No pre warning and I was very religious with maintenance. This is a known issue that should be fixed by Dodge. Now I need to buy a new car.
During travel from ft. Belvoir, va to fayetteville, nc the car began sputtering and acting like it was out of fuel. It had 3/4 of a tank. Made it to the next exit where the car stopped running. Able to give it throttle and get it started you can hear rattling in the top end of the motor. Had it towed to crown Dodge in fayetteville, nc where the diagnosis was a broken valve seat which fell inside the cylinder scarring the cylinder walls. The warranty company would not cover the repair costs on the car. This vehicle is maintained by a mechanic with over 20 years of experience with regular oil changes and preventative maintenance. It is a design flaw where the powdered metal valve seats expand at a different rate than the aluminum head leading to severe engine damage. Dodge knows of this problem and fixed their design in the 2010-up models, however has failed the public in compensating those that have had engine failure in 2006-2009 models.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, all the vehicle warning indicators illuminated and the engine failed. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000. Jw.
Engine just stopped working. No warning. Car was just serviced a few months prior. Pre mature engine failure.
Vehicle just died from premature engine failure at 5 mph at 515am on a Friday.
I notice that numerous 2006 Dodge Chargers have had pre mature engine failure. Numerous of them have a "dropped valve". I have a 2006 Dodge Charger that has been extremely well maintained and had the same issue. I drove my vehicle which was running fine with no issues and parked it at the store. When I finished at the store, I returned to my vehicle, got in and I attempted to start it at which time the engine made a horrific noise as if it was going to fall apart or explode. I shut it down immediately. White smoke was coming from the tailpipe so I had it towed to a shop where I was told it needed a new engine. I had it towed back to my home. I called Dodge in 2013 and was told that they had not heard of such a problem and that I should take it to a shop. The vehicle sat (undrivable) for almost 2 years as I was told by a dealership that repairs could amount to almost 7000. 00. I have finally taken it to a local shop and after compression testing and head removal, it was determined the same thing happened as in the reports I have read, which is a dropped valve in cylinder 6. I contacted Dodge once again with no answers or assistance. In review of the existing complaints, I notice that the 11th digit of the VIN is the same with most of the complaints that contain a VIN number. I believe this is a design flaw in the head that is causing this malfunction which is a serious safety issue when vehicles die and quit running for no apparent reason and without warning. Had I have driving down the road it could have been a serious safety hazard. How does this get investigated, and how many complaints have to be generated to have Dodge look into this manufacturer defect causing safety issues? I have pictures of the damage caused by the valve seat but I am having a difficult time uploading. I can e-mail them on request.
On 10/30/13 at approx 9:30am I refueled my '06 Dodge Charger 5. 7l hemi rt/daytona edition @the gas station w/89-octane fuel. As I pulled out of the station @under 15mph, my car stalled-engine died, oil light & bell appeared, & steering locked up. It took 2-attempts the 1st time to restart it w/ it acting like the engine had flooded. I drove approx. 2-blocks & it again stalled (including all of the above) as I was slowing for a stoplight. It took 2-3 attempts to restart. I drove approx 1-1/2blocks, including a slight incline, to a stoplight where it again stalled, though this time immediately restarted. After driving 3-blocks more, as I slowed for a stoplight it again began to sputter & buck as though going to stall; I cont'd to brake but maintained pressure on the accelerator attempting to maintain rpms & oil pressure; however as I turned the corner it again stalled & took 4-attempts to restart. After sitting for 15mins I had no other issues this date. Today(11/25/13) I refueled & experienced the sputtering, bucking, stalling, engine dying, oil light, zero oil psi, etc w/ 10-full stalls(engine failure episodes) in less than 20-mins. After allowing it to sit for 2+ hours the engine didn't fully die but did buck several times on the drive home. There was at least 1 add'l day between 10/30/13 & 11/25/13 that I experienced the same problems. All stalls have happened at 35mph or less. Prior to the problems after refueling, I was having problems filling the gas tank. I attempted to refuel the car & the auto pump shutoff engaged after less than 1/2-gal entering the tank; the auto pump shutoff would engage 3-5xs per refuel & required multiple readjustments of the pump nozzle to fill my gas tank. I haven't had the car in for diagnostics b/c of the neg reports on the forums indicating diagnostics show no discernible problems. Sounds like TSB#1803015 to me.
This is a Dodge Charger in the austin independent school district's police force fleet. After performing routine maintenance and upon start up, the auto began to have a hard engine knock. After further investigation we found that a valve seat had failed and entered the piston cylinder causing a catastrophic engine failure. The engine is a 5. 7 hemi. This is the second Dodge 5. 7 hemi to have this type of engine failure in less then a year, and at about the same engine mileage. These cars are pursuit vehicles, and if this failure had been at a higher speed serious injure, or death could have occurred.
