1 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 08/30/2019

Turning onto on-ramp of a highway I was moving about 20 miles an hour when the engine died and I lost power steering. Additionally, I felt a very tough transmission shift 2-3 seconds before I lost power steering and when the engine died. The car took multiple attempts to turn over. A very loud whirring noise began in the engine/transmission area and is yet to stop.

3 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2010 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 06/30/2018

Wife was driving Charger when the gauges, radio, ac went hay wire and a few seconds later the car just died in heavy traffic and would not start back. Had car was towed and very costly as she was far from home. From what I could find online it sounded like the battery or alternator, removed both and had them tested and both are in good working order. Charged battery up and car started right up so we test from it. While driving it only a few miles we noticed that there is a strange new whining noise coming from under there hood, esp/ tration control lights came on and car died again charged battery again and it started right up again however we are reluctant to drive it again due to this issue. Sounds like alot of people in online forums are having this same issue, but yet no recalls or fix's for whatever the issue is.

6 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2011 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 10/24/2014

Bought 2011 Charger in July, 2014. On October 22nd, I noticed a funny smell, but could not locate. On October 24, my car started making a whining sound that got louder over next 3 miles. I pulled over to a parking lot, notice smoke coming from under hood. I lift hood and see oil leaking out of timing chain cover onto alternator. My car shut off, won't start, and battery saver mode light flashing, gauges acting weird, and lights dimming. After about 15 minutes, I started car to get home with it, drove maybe 2 miles and car started to melt down including wipers coming on, radio on and off, door buzzers coming on, instrument panel light on and off, lights flashing, air bag warnings, etc. This continued for next couple miles until a complete shut down right at the railroad tracks! I barely got out of lane. After about 10 minutes, I got car to start and made it over the tracks to a parking lot. My husband came, called Dodge dealership, they sent tow truck that took it to dealership. Service manager called us 5 days later, said it was alternator and they would fix for $850. My husband said no, we're not paying because of recall issued on October 8th, that they needed to repair for free with better quality parts, and that I needed a rental until my car was fixed, or they could by my car back because we don't feel safe in it. Service manager denied recall, said it was media hype, and that he would have sales manager call us. We did not hear back from Dodge service department until February 10, 2015, when they informed rental company they were not paying bill for my rental for last 4 months, even though my car still not fixed and in same parking space at dealership it's been in since oct. 24. I called and made report to Chrysler corp. And now is a case under special investigations, which was supposed to be settled in 2 business days. Still waiting! shameful!.

7 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2011 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

My 2011 Dodge Charger had a smell of a burnt altenator. Car abs light came on and my radio turned off and there was a whining noise in the engine compartment. The car has electrical problems, the battery is in a power save mode I have not gone to the dealer yet. Its my 3rd incident with the car. Headlights and brakes. I will have to get it towed, I don't trust to drive it. It running on the battery only. It needs to be recalled.

8 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2011 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 05/02/2014

I recently had to replace the alternator on my 2011 Dodge Charger at a total personal cost of more than $800. Considering that most people these days don't have this type of money just sitting around, it was a very troubling situation. As I was driving down the street I noticed that my vehicle began slowing down without me breaking and the dashboard displays started flickering. Battery save mode was displayed and the car starting making a loud whining sound. That was immediately followed by the smell of something burning and smoke coming from the hood and through the front vents. Of course I was extremely alarmed and at the same time other vehicles were honking at me because my car was going so slow and I was in everyone's way. The burning smell and smoke were so bad that I just knew something had to be on fire. I stopped my vehicle in the street and signaled for drivers to go around me. I called a towing company to have the car taken to the shop since I obviously would not be continuing my commute home. The shop informed my that my alternator was bad and needed to be replaced. That was news that no car owner wants to hear. The cost to me would be over $800 because an aftermarket alternator did not exist for this make and model. This entire matter has had me scared at the time of the incident and pissed at the time of the bill. I have seen tons and tons of complaints on both this website and online in general regarding the bad alternators on the 2011 Dodge Chargers. It's ridiculous that Dodge/Chrysler has not issued a recall for alternators that were installed on these models so that consumers can either avoid this situation or be compensated for the crazy amount of money that we have had to pay to have this problem fixed. I am hoping that everyone who encounters this problem will put in enough complaints to make Dodge/Chrysler take action. . . . Updated 07/15/14.

9 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 07/04/2013

Drove to a business and once placed in park, the gear shift became stuck. Called aaa, they were going to tow it, then another driver showed up for aaa and knew just what to do. He takes apart the case that goes around the gear shift and presses on a pink colored emergency park release lever, ( why is that even an option??!!! ) it was obviously not attached to any thing as it fell down into the space around the shifter and still resides there. The discussion of towing it came up again, then we noticed a cable attached to the shifter and after playing with it have developed a system to unlatch it from park. You have to pull the cable to the left with a pen to disable the gear shift. Today I took it to where I bought it and they told me there was a recall on this and to take it to the Dodge dealership. The Dodge dealership knew just what I was talking about, but denies a recall on this. I am scheduled to have it fixed Monday the 12th. I dont feel I should have to keep paying for faulty equipment, this car has been a disaster since I bought it. The front end has been fixed about 4 times for vigourously shaking and a god awful rattling noise ( goes away for a short time then returns shortly after being fixed!!), numerous tires have been bought because that must be the problem too ( out of the mouths of the dealership), the tire pressure light stays on, the abs light system malfunctions and has left me with a no brake sensation on multiple occasions. I have always owned Dodges, but next time I purchase a vehicle it wont be a Dodge.

10 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 04/24/2012

I was driving my 2006 Dodge Charger (53k miles on the odometer) with the 5. 7 hemi engine at approximately 75 mph (posted highway speed) when I began to hear a rattling sound. I immediately pulled over just before a sharp curve in the road, but as I did the engine shut down and the steering wheel locked up and all the lights on the dash came on. I attempted to start the car again and the key turned but the engine did not respond. Had I not pulled over and begun to cut my speed when I did the engine would have shut down as I was negotiating a sharp turn in the road up ahead. The car was towed to a certified mechanic who stated that the engine had blown a valve and the entire engine would have to be replaced. I have researched Dodge Charger forums and this is a common problem with these cars and engines at approximately 40k-60k mileage. In each posted instance it states that the engines broke down from valve failure. This is a very dangerous problem because it is common and it can lead to accidents if these engines fail at high speed and cause the cars electronics to shut down. Chrysler sshould.
