2005 Dodge Dakota 4x2. Chrysler fuel line part# 68043248aa. Fuel line leak near tank. When vehicle is turned on, fuel sprays out of the hose under pressure from fuel pump. Looking at the tank through the driver's side wheel well, gas can be clearly seen spraying from the hose onto the underside of the truck bed and into the wheel well then puddling under the bed of the truck. A lot of fuel comes out and puddles under the vehicle. We were notified of the problem by a driver in another other vehicle that smelled gasoline. They followed us until we stopped. Vehicle was immediately taken to repair shop. There was no reason for the line to fail. Vehicle in excellent shape otherwise. We were lucky that the vehicle did not catch fire.

Gas caps are defective on Dodge Dakota's 2003 series. . . This causes computer to fire an error that their is a leak in the pollution system. . Take to dealers and they charge 90 dollars to reset and then tell you gas cap is all right and if it does it again bring it back. . . Again at a 90 dollar charge. On the internet I was able to discover thousands of people having exactly the same bad gas caps. . . . . . Then I wrote the manufacturer and back and forth on 3 replies. . Each time they simply tell me go to a dealer . . . Apparently they do not even properly read e mails they receive. . . These are available if needed!
the pollution control system is major on the newer vehicles, and certainly a known continuous failure of faulty gas caps effects the entire system and is a high cost item for the consumer to try working over and over with the dealers. . When the manufacture is or must be aware of the defective gas cap failures.

: the contact stated that there was a fuel leakage in the vehicle which started in the beginning of June 2006. There was recall #00v199000 regarding fuel leakage however the dealer and manufacturer determined the VIN of the vehicle was not included in the recall.
Began smelling fuel while at idle or immediately after shutting engine off. If vehicle was left shut off for 30 minutes or so the smell would subside and cease. Vehicle then began taking several seconds of cranking to start which added to the case that fuel was escaping from the pressurized fuel line while sitting. I observed fluid leaking from under truck on driver side of vehicle in the cab region and upon closer inspection found the metal fuel line showed evidence of rubbing against under side of cab body and was spraying fuel toward center of truck and had the under side of truck cab wet in about a 2 foot square. Fuel line shows no evidence of being impacted and is still held in routing and securing clamps underneath vehicle. This appears to be the original routing of fuel lines.
