Failure Date: 11/01/2004

When vehicle has 3/4 tank of gas. When slowing down there is a thumping noise coming from rear underneath vehicle. When braking and coming to a stop a delay then a thump sound comes from the back wall of the truck. 1st gas tank started this over half of a tank. Tank was replaced and now you hear the thump when the tank is at 3/4 full.

2 Gasoline Storage problem of the 2003 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 06/01/2003

Dodge manufactured my vehicle with a 20 gallon tank, though it was built for the spec of a 22 gallon tank and and all the electronics were set to a 22 gallon tank. When I noticed the erroneous output from the computer I asked my dealer to investigate. This is when they discovered that I had a 20 gallon tank and that my model would not accept a 22 gallon tank. They also mentioned that they had others on their lot at the time with the same problem which Dodge has printed new window stickers for since then. The only thing they could do is adjust the computer to be correct. My complaint revolves around the trucks that were sold with this condition, I believe a TSB should be issued to correct the computers to 20 gallon tanks and to notify the owners of the potential problem. Since bringing this issue to Dodges attention, they have been very evasive in their response when I asked what they are going to do for all the owners affected by this. I believe it poses a potential safety problem in that if an owner relies on the computer, they could run out of gas at an inoppurtune time. Like in the middle of a freeway.

3 Gasoline Storage problem of the 1998 Dodge Dakota

Have had an ongoing problem with hesitation upon acceleration esp. Uphill. Dealer finally (after warranty was up and we have had it in for the same problem at least three times now within the warranty period) found that there was an airleak some where. Also performed a tune up. Straps on back of console are both broke, scratch legs when sitting in back seat. Ran out of gas twice on 1/8 of a tank, then ran out at 1/4 tank. They replace the "sending unit"? at a cost of 170. 00 approx. (no longer under warranty by 3000 miles).
