Brake rotors warp after 3,000 miles every time they are replaced/turned-makes for very expensive maintainence. Also, when braking on a "bumpy" surface (like a road under construction), brakes pulse and do not stop vehicle!!!.

My wife and I own a 2001 Dodge Durango slt. Great car but very dangerous and remarkably obvious design flaw in the front rotors. We currently have 30,000 miles on or Durango and I 'm getting ready to put the third set of rotors on the front end. The first changed set was put on after only 9200 miles. Of course at the dealership you get the blah, blah about how it is a normal wear and tear item. Which I agree it is;however, it is not normal today or yesterday for any rotor on any vehicle to warp so badly after only 8000 miles of use. Rotors warp from excessive heat buildup-> that is a fact. I did further research through various Dodge dealerships. Of the five respective dealerships contacted all five agreed that the rotors are undersized and are pre-maturely wearing on all Dodge Durangos, but they couldn't do anything about. When I changed the rotors after only 8000 miles I was fairly surprised to see almost no wear on the front brake pads. Regardless of this small amount of wear I decided to replace the front pads with new high end ceramic pads which help with reducing heat by helping dissipate heat through the ceramic media. At 17,000 miles warped rotors on the front end again, ceramic pads looked great. I do not pull a boat/ RV or anything else on my vehicle. I live in flat corn country not colorado with excessive mountains that would put strain on the braking system. Brakes are the single most important part on any vehicle, and when they are undersized and don't dissipate heat correctly they will warp everytime. There is no doubt that this is a dangerous situation that is not isolated and is prevalent with every 2001 Durango. I hope I'm not wasting my fingers time and that this has some impact on Dodge, so that they may right this wrong and get recall performed before someone or more people are killed and injured from this condition.

Dealer already notified-premature 1/4 inch grooving in rotors is not normal during mild operating conditions. I believe the metalergy is defective in hardness and will require the expense of premature replacement to avoid failure rather than standard service.
There's a snapping noise whenever vehicle is being driven at low speeds. Took vehicle to dealer and they realigned and replaced bearings, hubs, and rotors. Consumer states vehicle continues to make the noises under the front end, dealer has attempted to fix this problem 8 times.
Warped front brake rotors are causing severe vibration in the brake pedal. Dealer does not recomend resurfacing because there is insufficient material and thinning the rotors will compound the problem. Dealer says replacement parts will last just as long based on driving habits. Napa sells rotors with a lifetime warranty. The rotors from the factory are a safety problem that Dodge is passing off on the customer. No well maintained vehicle should need to have new rotors installed at just over 20,000 miles.
After inspecting brakes had found the front rotors cracked. Dealer had inspected and tried to repair.

I have two: 1: brake rotors are once again out of round/warped SUV has 37,000miles on it, used mostly on weekends. Pads have over 90 percent left. First rotors were changed at 20,000 miles (about 1-2 years ago) pads then were still 80 percent left. My other car , driven just as much, does not have this problem. 2- power steering is non-existant when temp is under 32 degrees. After you let the car warm up about 1 min. , it starts to work.
Problems with brake equipment on 2002 Dodge Durango. While applying the brakes the front end of the vehicle shimmied. Upon inspection of the brakes the consumer noticed that the pads were like new but the rotors were corroded so badly that the metal was flaking off and leaving pits on the surface. The consumer believes that materials used were substandard.

Consumer is concerned that rotors have to be replaced each time front brake pads are replaced.
Disc rotors warped at 13,500 miles causing erratic stopping, machined and warped again at 22,000 miles. Car is used almost exclusively for long-distance driving, not for city driving.
Brakes & hubs-ball joints.
While driving, the consumer heard a loud knocking sound in the front end. The driver also stated the brake pressure was not normal. The driver pulled over and had the vehicle towed to the dealer. The dealer replaced the ball joints, bearings, rotors, knuckles, hubs and axle. Please describe further.
Consumer complained about front end problems, including brake rotors/ and ball joints, both upper and lower. Consumer stated that those occurrences took place long before the tv news of last Thursday 10-30-2003 about ball joint failures.
Consumer states that since vehicle was at 11000 miles the front brake rotors have needed changing every 12000 miles. Dealer contacted. Tsconsumer states that 90 percent of driving is on the highway. The dealer checked the brake pads and they did not show signs of excessive wear.
