The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that after refueling, a large amount of fuel would continue to emit from the filler neck and onto the ground and the contact's clothing. There was a recall associated with the failure under NHTSA campaign number 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap); however the contact's VIN was not included. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the fuel tank inlet check valves were being replaced. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000.

I have filled up my vehicle on multiple occasions since I have purchased this vehicle used. Every time I fill it up the gas tank bubbles and is shoots a decent amount of gas out of the tank onto the ground and down the side of my car. This causes my car to smell like gasoline and leaves a puddle of approx 1 cup of gas on the ground. At first I thought it was a particular gas stations nozzle, but after going to multiple different stations, I have encountered the same problem. I have not contacted Dodge about this problem, but I will be soon. I know there currenlty is no recal for this, but there should be, this is an extreme safety hazard to have gas flying out of the gas tank.

I just purchased a used Dodge Durango with 28,900 miles on it. I discovered beginnig the day I bought it that it is impossible to put gasoline into the Durango without it dumping out approximately a large amount after the hose shuts off. It does not seem to matter if it is an attempt to fill the tank or just to add any amount of gasoline to the vehicle. It always does it about 1 or 2 seconds after the pump clicks off. The gasoline goes down the side of the vehicle and there is always a large puddle on the ground under the vehicle. I am afraid that someday it will catch on fire due to the excessive amount of fuel loss. The is also always a gasoline smell inside the passenger compartment after filling the tank. I have seen many complaints online and also reported to the ntsb regarding this issue. Why is there not a recall?.

Gas splashes out on myself and the car and the ground everytime I fill up with gasoline. It has been reported and verified that in Jan of '09 there was a massive recall on 2005 Durangos regarding this safety hazard. I took my vehicle in to a local Chrysler dealer and they charged me $75. 00 to tell me there was nothing wrong with my car and that they did not have any recall notices for my year of Durango. I have the complaint number from the nhtsb announcing the massive recall of these particular vehicles. When I complained again, I was told the recall did not include my VIN number. This is unacceptable. A fire could start or worse yet , I could catch on fire with the amount of backsplash I receive everytime I fill the gas tank up fully. This is a serious defect on Chrysler's part and it needs to be repaired immediately. At the high price of fuel I do not expect to be doused with a shower of gas, nor do other customers' parked near my car at the gas station.
When fueling once tank is full and pump shtus off, a moderate amount of gasoline will spew from the filler neck. Even if you slow the pump to a very slow rate before it becomes completly full you can hear the air releasing from the tank and without warning it still spills. This has occured the entire time I have owned the vehicle, and even while under warranty dealer stated their was nothing they could do besides insist I not fill completly up. Anywhere from a footprint size puddle to a puddle covering the rear axle length of vehicle occurs. After installing dual exhaust on vehicle I am very nervous of letting this continue and risk gasoline spilling onto hot pipe igniting a fire, let alone any clearcoat damage that may have already been done to paint. Lots of complaints here as welll as elsewhere on numerous Dodge forums. Please assist.
2005 Dodge Durango - approximately a pint to a quart of fuel overflows from fuel filler tube when filling up. There was an apparent recall on this problem but Chrysler/Dodge stated that my VIN number is not covered under the recall. Took vehicle in for inspection to a dealer. Quoted over $1100 for replacing whole fuel tank assembly in order to fix problem. Chrysler said they would cover all but 369. 50 and that the company normally does not cover any amount of repair outside of warranty or a recall. Clearly, this should be a recall issue as many other 2005 Durango owners are experiencing the same problem. Problem has persisted since purchasing from a friend's lease turn-in (approx 42k mi). Currently have approx 78k miles. Chrysler should cover this defect in full in that it is a serious safety issue and is not a problem stemming from wear and tear or abuse.
2005 Dodge Durango spills large amounts of gas when tank is filled.
At about 58,000 miles my 2006 Dodge Durango began to overflow or spit back a large amount of fuel when topping off the tank. The amount of fuel is about 1/2 to 1 gallon in size and spits out of the filler neck in a flowing spray. It does this every time I fill it till the pump auto shuts off.
A large amount of fuel sprays out of fuel filler when gasoline pump shuts off at tank full.
When filling up the gas tank, the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve does not function properly. It does not close and gas always spills out. I am afraid that gas spills out while driving. At times, with the keys in the ignition, the car will turn off by itself if I am moving slowly. I bought this truck in 2005. The first year, I brought the car in for stalling on its own. The dealership told me that there was nothing that they could do and the car did not have a problem. I brought the truck in about 3 times for the same problem and every time, nothing was resolved. After that I did not have the money or the time to continue bringing the truck in for a problem that the dealership was saying they could not find. Over the years, I have just dealt with this truck stalling on its own. About 1 year ago, I noticed that the car started spilling out gas if it was filled up. I did not know there was a recall until I researched the problem online. I found that there was a recall. I contact Chrysler customer care, they looked up my VIN # and told me that they did not have any recalls listed on my particular truck. I explained to the representative that my car had a problem with the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve and that gas spilled out. I told them that I was afraid that gas was spilling from the tank while I was driving. The representative told me that there was nothing that they could do and told me to take the truck to the dealership. I am afraid that if I take the truck to the dealership I will be responsible for all of the expensive charges to fix this problem. I do not have the money for this since I am paying $700 a month for a truck that should never have been financed at that amount in the first place and is not worth the amount still owed. I feel like I was taken advantage of!! please help!!!.
When filling up gas tank, a good amount gas spills out after pump shuts off. There was a recall issued for 2005 Durango for this exact failure, but the recall does not cover my 2007 Durango. I have read of many other failures for 2006-2008 Durangos on the internet, so Dodge has not fixed this.
During normal fuel fill-up procedures, whenever the fuel nozzle stops pumping fuel into the gas tank, a large amount of fuel is ejected from the gas fill-up door. This gasoline is sprayed over anyone and anything within approximately three feet of the vehicle in direct line with the fuel door, as well as spilling down the side of the vehicle itself and onto the ground. Several other 2004-2006 Dodge Durango owners I know have this same issue, with no help to repair or reimburse for repair from Chrysler's corporate office.
No events leading up to failure. At beginning of November 2010 began to fill gas tank, when tank full, gas nozzle clicked off and a couple of seconds later gasoline sprayed out all over my pants and all over the ground. Since that time, everytime tank is filled, the same thing has happened. My concern is if there is an ignition source with all the gas that leaks out, a fire could result, or if the pump happens to have a flange near end, it has sprayed out from sides, and if child happens to be walking by, it could spray a child in the eyes. I do have a video of one of the episodes of gas coming out from around pump nozzle after pump clicks off. I did call Chrysler as it appears there is a similar recall, however they have told me that my automobile is not part of that recall. They had me take it to a Dodge dealer to get it fixed and said they would compensate me for some of the cost to get it fixed, however wouldn't tell me what amount they would pay until after taking it in. Per service dept report "the fuel tank flapper is sticking". The fuel tank and filler neck assembly were fixed to remedy the issue. Old part is not available. Chrysler said that they would pay for all but $250. 00 for which I was responsible for.
When filling fuel tank, a large amount of fuel sprays out right after the pump shuts off. Easily a quart of gas sprays everywhere. Even refueling slowly does not prevent this. Spilled gas presents a fire hazard.
On my 2008 Durango, the "fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve" has stopped working. This is the same problem that Dodge recalled some 2005 Durangos for in 2009 (NHTSA campaign #09v003000)
at each fill-up, no matter what gas station, when the tank is filled up, and immediately after the pump automatically shuts off - a large amount (1 gal or so) of gas literally "spews" from the gas tank for the next 5 to 10 seconds. This gas will spray the person pumping the gas, as well as the vehicle and surrounding area. This is a significant safety hazard, from multiple perspectives. Dodge has claimed that the 2008 models are not covered under the same recall, but the same exact problem is present. Therefore a new, expanded recall should be issued.

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Durango. While adding fuel to the vehicle the contact noticed that an excessive amount of fuel sprayed back on her, the ground and the vehicle. She also stated that occasionally a few days later the smell of fuel was in the vehicle. She referenced recall 05v034000, fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap and stated that she did not understand why this recall did not include the 2006 vehicles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised her that the entire fuel tank needed replacing. She stated that the pre-owned vehicle was purchased on October 15, 2010 and she noticed the failure, the following day. A complaint was filed with the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 97,800 and the current mileage was 99,300.
I have a 2006 Dodge Durango that every time I fill up at the gas station, when the tank gets full, the nozzle clicks and a rush of gas spills out. The Dodge dealer says it's not covered under a recall covering the same problem on other vehicles. I see there is a recall for 2005 Durango's but not 2006's. I have investigated this complaint on the internet and find many 2006 Durango owners having the same problem. I am seriously concerned that there will be an explosion due to the amount of gas spraying out. The dealer indicated that they were "unable to duplicate" the problem, but it happens at every time I fill up at every gas station that I have been using.
I own a 2005 Dodge Durango VIN 1d8hb48dx5f568581. When refueling the vehicle, fuel over flows onto the vehicle and ground at the end of the fueling process every time you fill the tank. My research has shown there was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). The manufacturer was contacted and advised that the VIN was not included in the recall and that I would need to bring the vehicle to an authorized service station and pay for the diagnostic charge without reimbursement. In addition, they would not guarantee to pay for the repair, only the possibility of helping with payment. Felt this was unsatisfactory due to Dodge already recalling some 2005 Dodge Durangos and the apparent continuation of this problem outside of the acceptable VIN number range. No further assistance was offered. The vehicle was not repaired. I am unable to fill the fuel tank with gasoline and could only refuel with small amounts of gasoline at a time. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
Fuel tank overflow I have a 2006 Dodge Durango that has in the past 2 months developed a problem. Every time I fill up with gas (even at different stations), my gas tank over fills and gas is "gushing" out and a good amount is lost. This is a very unsafe situation due to every time I fill up gas runs down the side of my truck and creates a puddle on the ground which could catch on fire! I have done some research and discover a recall id# 58886 which seems to describe the same exact situation I am having. Unfortunate for me, this recall was for 2005 Dodge Durango's and not 2006. I believe a recall should be initiated for the 2006's as I have seen a lot of postings in forums of many 2006 Durango's experiencing the same problem, it appears to be a factory defect as it just started two months ago after about 70,000 miles.
Our 2006 Dodge Durango spits a large amount of gas out during refueling. When the tank is full and the pump shuts off the gas spits out all over you and the ground. There is about 20 ounces or so that does this. It happens everytime you fill the tank. The dealer said it was a device in the filler neck that goes bad often. This is a serious fire hazard and needs to be addressed.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact was refueling the vehicle when the fuel tank overflowed at the end of fueling and began spilling onto the ground. The contact stated there was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). The manufacturer was contacted and advised that the VIN was not included in the recall. No further assistance was offered. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that he was unable to fill the fuel tank with gasoline and could only refuel with small amounts of gasoline at a time. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
I have a 2006 Dodge Durango and for the past few months every time I fill my gas tank and it even gets remotely close to full it sprays fuel at me everywhere and spills tons on the ground. I can't leave it for a second and it can't get full or it's horrible. I see that the 2005 Durango's had a big recall for the same exact incident but nothing for the 2006's. I called the dealership and I'm told that the whole fuel tank needs to be replaced. This is a huge safety issue do to the amount of gas that sprays out and nothing can really be done to stop it except me pay to replace it or to not fill my tank which is a pain. My vehicle is not that old for this to be happening. Why is 2005 covered but not 2006?.
Everytime I have filled up my gas tank for the past 2 months it overflows. This causes a fair amount of gasoline to flow out of the fill area and onto the ground. There is so much that on several occasions I have had to notify the gas attendants on duty so proper measure can be taken for the spill due to the potential fire hazard involved. On December 14th I went to a dealership to have vehicle assessed, and they advised it is the fuel tank check valve that is not working properly. It will cost $721 to replace because the check valve is part of the whole fuel tank assembly. To keep this from happening, until I can afford to replace the tank, I will try to not fill up my tank completely.
Vehicle gas tank overflows when gas is pumped until gas pump autostops. A large amount of fuel spills out in 1-5 seconds after. I have had this happen over two years now. Dealer seems to not want to fix. Recalls are conveniently not for the vehicle in question. Seems small amount of VIN qualify.
Fuel overflow spills out of gas tank when the tank gets full. Spillage amount is between 1/4 and 1/3 of a gallon each tine the tank is filled to the top. The fuel spits out of the fill receptacle like it is under pressure.
There is no particular event leading up to the following failure--it happened and then never stopped happening. Every time my 2005 Dodge Durango is refueled, the gasoline backwashes out of the filler tube. A significant amount of fuel gushes out of the filler tube requiring that I Dodge the fountain of fuel. This is a serious safety issue. My research revealed that a recall had been placed on this model for the same symptoms, but Dodge claims that my VIN isn't wasn't included in the recall. They suggested I take it to a local dealer for a diagnostic, which cost $70. The diagnosis is that the charcoal evap canister is filled with "liquid" caused by overfilling the tank and Dodge refuses to cover the repair. I contend that the evap issue is caused by the very problem of the fuel backwash. My visit to Dodgeforum. Com revealed that the fuel overflow is a common problem. Given the existing recall, it's obvious this is a safety problem that Dodge should be required to correct.
Whenever we try to fill gas the gas comes spraying back out going on the ground, on the side of the Durango and on us. We have tried numerous gas stations in several towns, different pumps at those stations and different kinds of gas. The result is always the same. Currently we try to guess how many gallons we can put in and try to stop the pump in time but this is a huge inconvenience. I can't imagine how many gallons of gas we have paid for that went everywhere but in the gas tank not to mention all the car washes we've paid for to wash the gas off the paint. We've even had gas station attendants approach us about the amount of gas on the ground.
2005 Dodge Durango fuel overflow/splash. About a year ago I noticed the fuel pump would not shut off when refueling which cause a great amount of fuel to splash back at the person filling the tank. I took my vehicle in for maintenance and was told by Dodge that it was not under recall and it would cost me $600 plus to fix. I went to a different dealer recently and was told the same. This is a severe safety issue! believe this is related to NHTSA action number : rq08005.
I have a 2006 Dodge Durango, an excessive amount of fuel spillage from the fuel tank. The failure occurs whenever fuel is dispensed into the fuel tank, followed by fuel spraying out of the tank. The fuel nozzle stops when the tank was full with fuel continuously spraying out of the tank. The dealer has the vehicle and is replacing the carbon canister. The symptoms are the same as recall 05v-034.
I have a 2005 Dodge Durango that was manufactured 03/2005. I have a fuel tank that is malfunctioning just like what was referenced in your case #: 09v003000. I have been in contact with the local dealership and the national Dodge website and they tell me that the recall does not effect my vehicle. However, the recall is for the exact same thing. They are wanting 400 to replace this tank. I feel that it is a huge hazard. Everytime I get gas it spits back at me and all over the ground some times a very large amount.
I've owned my Durango for 3 years, but the past 6 months when I go to fill up my gas tank it overflows and goes all over the ground and my car. It is not a small amount of gas pouring out of the gas tank. This happens everytime I fill up gas, which is once a week. Most times I have to rush home or to my destination to clean the gas off of my car.
This is regarding the latest safety recall notice h45 to my 2005 Dodge Durango SUV to the fuel tank inlet check valve. Since receiving this notice I have taken my car to Dodge dealer in mount airy, maryland, a total of six times, which does not include visits to order parts and return when the part was received, approximately twelve time, I've been to this dealer. I have been very patient trying to work with Dodge, but I am losing patience, as well as any confidence in chryslers statement were sorry for any inconvenience, but we are sincerely concerned about your safety as stated in their notice. Each time they have worked on my car, and I fill the tank, it continues to spew gas all over me, my car, the ground, until one day given the situation, gas fumes igniting and starting a critical mishap. This is a dangerous situation and Chrysler refuses to address, on my behalf. After my third visit, I attempted to contact Chrysler at 800-853-1403, with my frustrations, and was told there was nothing they could do, and I needed to work with my dealer in mt. Airy to resolve the problem. This latest visit, October 19, 2009, where they supposedly replaced the entire tank, has left me with additional problems. The engine light stays on if fuel is below a quarter of a tank (which has never occurred before) and the odometer statement (where the numbers are) reads gascap, even though I replace the gas cap no differently than I have for the past five years. I am very concerned about my safety as well as anyone that happens to be around me at the time of fill-up. Please advise me on anything that I can do at this point. I am speaking with an attorney, but dont feel that I should have to go this route. Your prompt reply is requested.
When filling vehicle with fuel at several different gas stations, as the gas tank approaches full and the nozzle shuts off, a significant amount of fuel sprays out of the filler tube. It has sprayed me twice and today sprayed the gas pump unit as it is under pressure when it overfills.
Fuel tank overflow I have a 2006 Dodge Durango that I absolutely "love" except the fact that the past 2 months has developed a problem. Every time I fill up with gas (even at different stations), my gas tank over fills and gas is "gushing" out and a good amount is lost. My concern is not so much the expense in waste of extra gas I need to pay for. But, I have gas dripping down the side of my truck and in between my bumper fascia. And, this also causes a great scent of gasoline that also somehow gets into the vehicle, and lingers for quite a bit of time afterwards. I hate the smell of gas. I now fill up when I do not have my3 kids in the truck due to the smell and gas fumes are known to cause cancer. I have done some research and discover a recall id# 58886 which seems to describe the same exact situation I am having. Unfortunate for me, this recall was for 2005 Dodge Durango's and not 2006. I have also been on the phone with Dodge about this problem many times they keep telling me they never heard of the problem keep telling them same problem as the o5. I would like to have this situation investigated. I would like to request a recall for 2006 Dodge Durango's be considered as well. It does make me feel a little better knowing I am not alone with this problem. This is still a consistent problem that really, for safety reason must be resolved. Unfortunately, there are many inconsiderate people that I have come across at gas stations that take pleasure in discarding their lit cigarettes onto the ground. And, I will be very upset (if I was to live) if that ignited light came in contact with gas that has spilled out of my vehicle. I greatly thank you for taking the time to read my concern. And, I really am hoping that you can help to resolve my situation, and others in my area.
I own a 2007 Durango. About six months ago, I noticed that when fueling up, when the tank was full, gas was blowing out of the fill valve while the gas nozzle was still in the fill valve. I talked to the dealer about it, but the service manager basically blew me off, like it was my fault. I started watching whether the amount of fuel in the tank upon filling up mattered--it did not. The fuel would spill out no matter if the tank was on empty, 1/4 full, 1/2 or 3/4 full. I tried fueling up first thing in the morning thinking heat had something to do with it--it didn't the fuel still spewed out. These things were tried as a result of statements made by the service manager.
