3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2024

Dealership still cannot pinpoint exactly what is wrong but the car does not start. One time it’ll start and the next it won’t. It’s actually left me stranded in the cold because that seems to be the only time it won’t start. It’s happened to many other Grand Caravan owners too. No mechanic I’ve taken it to can solve the problem I’ve spent so much money replacing parts on this car.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2023

Vehicle randomly dies completely like no battery connected either while parked or in motion. Then after a few moments vehicle starts like nothing is wrong. No codes no warning.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2023

My van caught fire. Randomly after not being driven for more than 15 hours. The investigator says it is believed to be the inverter in the back drivers side panel under the cup holders which short circuited and caught fire which engulfed my entire vehicle in a mater if 40 minutes while waiting for the fire department to arrive. The van is obviously a goner. Burnt to a crisp along with all of our dewalt power tools batteries fishing poles tackle chainsaw and 4 brand new car seats that were just purchased with the last 2 months. Along with cracking all the windows on that side of my home due to the heat from the blaze. . .

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2023

The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle suddenly stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. Additionally, the contact stated that the instrumental panel became inoperable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2023

The tipm failed which caused a loss of power to the vehicle and power to the fuel pump. I was driving at approximately 60 mph when the vehicle lost all power and the steering wheel felt locked. I was unable to turn the steering wheel as the Dodge Grand Caravan came to a quick stop as if it was out of gas. Luckily I reacted quickly and was able to avoid an accident. After approximately 10 minutes of trying to restart the vehicle and drive to a safe location the vehicle restarted. This happened again when I was driving and came to a red light at a major intersection and the vehicle stalled out as if out of gas and the steering locked. I again tried to restart the vehicle intermittently for 15 minutes; after which it finally restarted, and I was able to drive and get out of the intersection without an accident. I was lucky that this didn't cause an accident. The other times the defective tipm and power to the fuel pump caused the vehicle to fail to start and left me stranded. I have had the vehicle diagnosed and the tipm repair price is quite expensive. The vehicle did not have any check engine or warning lights before this occurred. I have read many similar complaints of this occurring with others driving Dodge/Chrysler vehicles. I feel that there is evidence that the tipm and the fuel pump on the 2011 Dodge caravan are safety concerns. Every experienced mechanic I have spoken with is aware of the common issue with the tipm, and power to the fuel pump and vehicle. Although I avoided an accident there is a concern for everyone's safety.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2023

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2022

New battery is dead after sitting for a week or more. Has happened several times….

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2022

Vehicle windows intermittently would roll down on there own and car horn would beep, than vehicle intermittently would not start engine would just shut off. Vehicle, stalls when in gear and wouldn't restart. Replaced, tipm vehicle seemed to go back into normal operation for few minutes than tipm faulted again. I understand, NHTSA has investigated this issue with Dodge caravan and needing to recall faulty tipm.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2022

Car starts intermittently especially when in colder conditions takes 3 to 4 starts , hard to start , put in neutral and starts right away ,car feels like it’s going to stall out when accelerating at times.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2021

This vehicle always fails to start in the colder weather. After a review of this condition. It has been found that the fuel pump relay does not send proper signal. This relay is a part of the totally integrated power module (tipm). When it fails to operate, the vehicle will experience long crank times. With its ignition switch style, as soon as you turn the key, the vehicle will continue to crank unless you manually turn the switch all the way back to the off position. This condition will cause the starter motor to overheat or burn up. Eventually the vehicle may start then die. Fuel delivery is too inconsistent when colder weather arises. You can't just replace a plug-in-style replacement fuel pump relay since it is a part of the whole tipm. This vehicle has not yet died in traffic or on the highway thank god. There is never any cel illumination or any stored fault codes. It started doing this the first winter I bought it. This is my second year and it's only just fall and it is acting up again. This is a known issue among these tipms that are on more than just this vehicle but many other Dodge/chryslers with this same tipm. Someone needs to take accountability for a faulty product that needs redesigned before these issues continue to affect the consumers that trust in their product. I hope that this issue is addressed and resolved before others continue to complain about vehicle faults, or even worse experience any catastrophic conditions resulting in death of consumers based on this faulty tipm, that controls most aspects of the whole vehicle.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2021

My car was fine until one day in rain the whole dash and radio shut off and came back on repeatedly, spedometer bouncing each time. Took it to dealer/jdbyrider and "they dont know prob/happens all the time" w a very "OH well" attitude. They did nothing. I called again when car also started shutting completely off at long red lights. I was told next appt available would be 23 days! thats still 4 days away. Now in addition to dash/radio/spedometer problem the van doesnt just die at long lights, it dies if I have to stop for drive thrus, stop signs, short lights. The headlights have also started flickering very very badly. Im upset that repairs are supposed to be covered by jdbyrider and theyve had me driving this dangerous car for almost a month before trying to fix it. Im not allowed to get work done on it elsewhere or else it makes future repairs on parts not covered by jdbyrider. I have 4 kids and this car is not safe on road and im literally not allowed to get someone else to fix it if I want it to continue to be covered by jdb. Jdb blames Dodge. My car purchase was supposed to cover repairs and instead im being forced to drive 4 kids around in car dealer cant fix and they claim Dodge dont know how to either. I should have never been expected to wait almost a month for this to be addressed.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2021

It started a few months ago with my van not starting properly. After being stranded multiple times & it stalling once while driving, I had my mechanic check multiple issues we assumed the fuel pump was going bad. Nearly $600 later and a new fuel pump the issues continued until today when it is now dead! after searching I found 2010 and older models of my van were recalled for this exact issue, just not 2011! I don’t have the money to fix it and am pissed that while it’s the same problem it is not covered in the recall.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2021

Vehicle shakes, dash lights flash on an off, doesn't want to accelerate, check engine light flashes occasionally. Mechanic has run diagnostic tests, the only code the vehicle is showing is oil pressure.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2021

Purchased van no problem mechanic gave great review following week wouldnt start mechanic said tipm is bad we had tipm rep[laced already 3 times and now its bad again this time I was with my family when van completly shut off on highway doing 70 miles a hour we have to carry a jumper battery pack with us to start van I called crysler and they informed me there is no problems with my vans tipm well thats funny google has over 45 thousand articles about these problems and nobody does anything about it till people die.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2021

Van has stalled and quit while at intersections and while driving on busy hwy. Have had looked at and seems that the tipm is the problem. Same as many over vehicles that was recalled for this same reason suck as the Jeep cherokees. Very dangerous for it to stall and quit in the middle of traffic, almost been rearended due to the stalling and hit at intersection due to it cutting off completely. Accident wating to happen and have someone be badly injuried or killed. This needs to be addressed and recalled ASAP. Dealership looked at this and stated the same. Please investigate and take correct steps on getting this fixed/recalled before someone is killed.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2021

Car shuts off while driving. Sometimes won't start back up. Isn't running well. Most likely the tipm, which seems to be a big issue from what I'm finding with Dodge caravans.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2021

Tpim fuel pump relay went bad. Looked up a video on repairing it and found how to bypass it. The van started right up when the fuel pump relay was bypassed.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2021

Tipm failure - 2011 Dodge caravan made same year as durango and Jeep that were recalled for same issue. Had fuel pump replaced on 1/28/21 but continued to cut out while driving in traffic on busy highway 10 times within a quarter mile distance.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2020

About 11/30 I went to start the car in the morning. , the front windshield wipers were on when I turned the key, and would not change speed or turn off as much as I tried the back and they would not turn on. The radio/ clock did work but no lighted information and same with the speedometer, the gas tank, temperature warning and tachometer lighting. The car started, and restarted several time well enough but the dashboard lights and the wipers did not change. I tried turning the key on and off without starting the car a number of times with different number of tries before restarting as a possible resetting with no change. Eventhough it had no working speedomater I drove the car first around the block several times and then to my local mechanec. I talked to him he did not have the correct equipment for testing required to find the problem. He suggested I go to the dealer and 1) see if they had any recall or unpublished issued repair notices etc 2) get an estimate of the possible costs and times for repair. I thanked him and was in my car again within 15 minutes and the total problems went away, front wipers off and all the dashboard lights worked. The car worked for 4 more trips over the next few days. On Dec 3rd 2020, I started the car just fine went on the express way for the first time for a about 35 minutes trip. About 8 minutes into the expressway drive the dashboard lights went out and the wiper went on for about 1. 5 minutes, but before I could exit the expressway they went back on and I could turn off the wipers, a few minutes they went out again and just as suddenly in 2 minutes they were working again. There was a third time before my exit that lasted only about 1 minute. When I got off at the usual exit I parked & tried to see the problem again for nearly 20 minutes with no luck, I continued the trip and it was uneventful as drive back & since no problem.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2020

Fuel pump relay went bad. Also found broken oil filter valve, broken flex pipe to exhaust and leaky transmission lines.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2020

It started with my vehicle not starting intermittently. As the problem got worse at first thought it may be the fuel pump. Having this replaced. The van has completed went dead while driving in traffic and had kids in car with me. Tries to go dead while sitting idle at redlights and will shake during accelaration and tries to quit. Reading alot on this and others having the same issues. Other vehicles have been recalled for same issues also. This needs to be recalled and address ASAP before someone is injuried or killed due to the vehicle going dead while driving in traffic. Please help on getting this recall going. This is not safe at all!!!.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2020

October 8,2020 I was driving straight down hill on a city street in puyallup, wa when the car completely shut down without warning. I had no steering, brakes, or anyway to control the vehicle. I managed to coast into a nearby lowes hardware parking lot and ran into a barrier in order to stop. I was lucky there were no people or other cars in my path of travel when I entered as I was unable to stop. I called my insurer, geici, and arranged for the vehicle to be towed. Towing was performed by engels towing , puyallup, wa (253) 845-0034. Checking online I discovered that this is a known problem with the fuel pump and no recall has been issued. I believe that this is a serious safety issue. I, my family, or others could have been seriouly injured or killed.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2020

Van has a bad tipm which from what I have read says could set off airbags ant time. Safety hazard.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2020

Driving at about15 m. P. I had trouble steering and noise was coming for under the hood,I pulled over and I look under the car it was leaking lots of oil. I had it towed to the dealer, the problem was a hole in the tubing on the racken pinen steering . If it was on a highway or on a faster road it would have been a very bad accident with oil leaking and could not steer the van. I was very very lucky. There was no warning light. I have a picture of the hole. I reported to crysler.

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2020

Driving van in town 35 mph wipers came on by themselves and stayed on switch in the off position information panel goes out along with speedometer, tach, and gages van runs like normal. Changed tipm no correction failure happened at 156000 thousand miles.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2020

Sliding passenger doors on both sides of van refuse to open or unlock. Doors cannot be opened manually, with key fob or with the button on the interior of the car. This prevents passengers in rear (usually children) from being able to exit the vehicle, which could be particularly dangerous in the event of a crash.

30 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2020

When you put the key in it it just cranks and cranks and cranks but never starts. When it first started it was just occasionally but now it wont start at all so it just sits in the driveway. I'm a grandmother raising her grandchildren be nice to have a vehicle to take the babies to their appts. But obviously Dodge doesn't care because they are aware of this problem and dont want to make the part available to us to fix it so we spend the money for these vehicle to set in our driveways. I purchased the van on a Friday and within a week it started hit and miss starting and by the second week in is now parked in my driveway. This is crazy Dodge you need to make this right or at least make the part available for us to purchase so we can fix our vehicles.

31 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2020

Driver's side sliding door will not unlock manually, with button, or with key fob. I have tried unlocking the door while driving, in park, and when turned off. I have tried unlocking the door manually and the lock is stuck in the locked position.

35 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2019

My car kept stalling and cutting off. It would cut off at times while driving on busy city streets, just before totally shutting down. Thought it was the battery and had that replaced. Nothing else was reading as an issue that would cause this problem. I knew it was larger problem when I was unable to jump start my vehicle or feed it gas using the pedal. Car no longer starts. Apparently I no longer have power to my fuel pump, and the relay is integrated into the fuse box. Upon doing some research this is a common issue that causes the vehicle to randomly shut off. Dealerships want $1200 to fix.
