I have previously reported an issue with my vehicle. The problem has persisted. The issue at hand is the vehicle loses power without warning while driving. It has happened at low speeds (25 mph), middle speeds (45 mph) and high speeds (65-70 mph). All warning lights are disabled when the events occur, so there is no way to warn other vehicles of the issues at hand, increasing the probability of a crash. I have taken my vehicle to cutter Dodge in honolulu only to have been told that the battery cables were loose ($150 service fee) and that the primer that is included with new batteries to apply on the battery posts was something that they'd never seen before. The problem has persisted. I currently have my vehicle at a repair shop with a battery that won't hold a charge because the intergrated power module is malfunctioning. As seen is previous complaints, this issue is ongoing with 2012 Dodge Grand Caravans. This issue presents a significant safety hazard and should be recalled. I will repeat that the driver has no warning that this issue will occur and it puts lives in danger. My vehicle has less than 110,000 miles and it began before reaching 100,000 miles. Recall this part before lives are lost or maimed.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle would not start when prompted and independently locked all of the doors in the vehicle. The failure prevented the contact from exiting the vehicle. Approximately five minutes later, the contact was able to use the key fobik to open the driver's door. The contact stated that the anti-theft warning indicator illuminated. In addition, while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle lost power completely. The contact coasted the vehicle to a nearby parking lot using manual steering. The contact removed the battery cables and re-attached them to restart the vehicle. Cutter Dodge in honolulu, hawaii was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and requested that the vehicle be brought in under an extended warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
My 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan began having issues about 6 months ago. The abs light would light up and beep on and off and was taken to the dealership and they stated they could not determine the problem without it occuring at that time. As months went on the problem became worse. All the dashboard lights began turning on and off headlights would dimmer, clock and radio would shut off. Took to a few mechanics and none could determine the problem. The problem got worse battery light began staying lit. We then replaced the battery and the battery cables. The problems persisted, we took to another mechanic who stated the alternator needed to be replaced. We replaced the alternator and the vehicle was fine for three weeks, then the problem started again all the lights lit up, the air went in and out, the radio shut off and out of nowhere the car shut off while about to turn at an intersection with my children in the van. We have taken the vehicle to many different mechanics even the dealership and none of them can determine what is causing this issue. Through the internet I see that we are not alone with this problem. I don't know what to do besides attempt to get rid of the vehicle. This is the vehicle I bought to transport my children; I've been paying for rental cars because I'm scared to drive it. With as many complaints as I've seen for this issue you would think there should be a recall. Someone is going to be seriously hurt or dead if they don't do something about this.

On Friday, 10/28/2016, I was traveling on flat rock rd. In starr SC coming home from work. I crossed over railroad tracks and the rear passenger door started trying to open on its own. The door made a loud noise and the door light on the dash lit up. I pulled over. The door continued trying to open until I opened the hood and disconnected the battery cable. When I checked the door, it would not open and was smoking. I noticed smoke coming from the bottom back corner of the door on the outside. I saw a flame inside. I had nothing to extinguish the fire with so I flagged down a passing motorist who thankfully had a jug of water. By this time, the door and trim under it were actually burning. I extinguished the fire and found the fuse for the door and pulled it. Later I found out that the vehicle had a recall for this and that the recall work was supposedly performed. I contacted Chrysler and they sent an inspector. Recieved a letter today denying responsibility. I have a partally burned vehicle whose doors won't open (presenting a safety hazard because I have children and they could not get out if this happened again). I am terribly afraid to drive the vehicle anywhere now because of this.

Van started and key stuck, then when the key get finally removed the engine stay on and won't shut off unless remove cables from battery. When the battery cables are connected again the engine start by itself without a key or the ignition is on without the key and the only way to shut off the van or to turn off the ignition is to disconnect the cables from the battery or it stays on or won't shut off. Running the battery out and your gas tank empty.
I have owned this van since 05/24/2012. At 30,922 miles and date of 01/06/2014 the positive battery cable corroded through and the van died while driving. The dealer replaced the entire cable under factory warranty. On 04/24/2016 & 62,036 miles the positive battery cable corroded through again and the van died while driving it. It seems that this is going to happen every 2 years. Eventually it's going to happen in heavy traffic and someone will get run over by fast rush hour traffic.
Sept 2015-my engine shut off while driving at 25mph and the horn and wipers went crazy. I was able to pull car to side of road safely. Feb 2016- took van in for recall for new key fab. The following week the car went crazy when I pushed unlock button to get into the vehicle using the new key fab. Horn went off, wipers squirting fluid and doors locked on me except for the rear hatch. Took into dealer they changed the clock spring. March 2016- vehicle went crazy again (horn, wipers, doors) I got into vehicle through rear hatch, unlocked hood, turned key to start to see if I could unlock, car started. I tried to turn off and engine kept going without key in ignition. I got out disconnected battery cable and the vehicle. Was still going crazy and the engine was still running for about 10 minutes. I took vehicle into dealer they first stated it needed new battery cables. . I told them that will not fix the issue. . It is more than that. Keep the vehicle until you find the real solution. Now the dealership is telling me it is the integrated power module ($950) on top on the clock spring that they replaced for ($550). I feel like the dealership is just reaching for solutions and ion the meantime I have to keep paying for their testing.
3 instances of engine electrical issues, suspect power control module box. First instance about 2 years ago, pulling into driveway, and headlights and dashboard begin to flicker uncontrollably. I pulled negative battery cable, re-connected after a couple of minutes, and all normality returns. 2nd issue, some year ago or less, car shuts down in middle of highway, luckily, right next to a parking lot and red light. As engine shut down, I suspected this issue once again. I used momentum to turn into parking lot. (just rolled in. ) wife asked me what I was doing, didn't explain until I was able to secure into parking lot and stop vehicle. Once again, pulled off cable on battery, and was able to re-set computer glitch. Third issue event. Was parked in parking lot, couldn't get key control to open door. Used emergency key to open door, once again, pulled off battery cable and re-set computer. There is a problem with this computer without a doubt.
Drove to nearby town and made several stops for shopping, but kept the car running for the ac as people were inside the vehicle that included my disabled veteran husband and his aid. At the last stop, the engine was turned off and the car was parked about an hour. Returned and the engine would not start. All warning lights were on and the inside lights were working. No sound from the engine like a dead battery or bad starter. Called and a sears employee came with a booster box. Box reported battery was putting out 12. 7 volts. He tried jump starting with battery cables. No sound from engine. Called two insurance companies that were trying to arrange transport and an hours later tried the key one more time and it started. Drove home without stopping. Once I got home and turned off the engine I tried to start it again and it would not start. Appeared the problem did not solve itself.
Our van would not start. The key was stuck in the ignition, so I had the van jumped, then towed to the dealer who said that the battery connectors were loose and that was the issue with the non-start. We get the van back and exactly one week later, the van will not start again. This time I check the battery cables, they are good, so I try to jump the van. This time nothing happens, so I have it towed. The tow truck driver having remembered me from last week says he thinks its a bad battery and his shop can install a new battery no problem. So I take his word. We get to their shop but they find that the battery is not the issue. Their diagnostic shows that the win module needs to be reset and potentially the entire system needed to be flashed. So they get the van running again, I drive it home. The next day, dead. I try to jump it again, nothing again; however, I am now armed with potent information. So I have the van towed to the dealer again. They remember me too now. I tell them what was found from the diagnostic ran from the shop. Thus far they are saying that everything is testing fine but they are not sure what is draining the battery. I feel they are totally unaware of the tipm failure that is currently under investigation. I will alert them of this, but I am not very hopeful as the part is apparently on a national back order. Good thing I have a huffy.

At 11:30 pm the car engine started (the keys were in the house),horn was blowing, head lights were on, wipers going at full speed four way flasher going there was a red glow under the car and smoke was billowing from under the car and the doors were locked. We were able to get a key from the fob and unlock the doors, and unlatch the hood so we could open the hood. All the wires, alternator, fuse box and battery were cherry red. Using some clippers we were able to cut the battery cable and every thing stopped we cooled things down with some snow. All this only 3 ft. From our house Dodge estimated about $1800. 00 to fix what could be seen and most likely more would show up later. This is the third time we have had problems with the electrical on this car. My wife and I are both disabled and I need a van to carry my wheel chair when I go to the doctor, etc. We don't have the money to fix the car and still make payments I have contacted Dodge and our insurance company, but they say it is our problem. I hope you might be able to help us out.
The electric door locks do not work unless you reset the computer by removing the battery cable for one min. And connecting it back. Computer needs to be flashed for a permanent fix. The removing the cable is just a temporary fix. I bought it broken.

Started up the car and all the lights on the dash stayed on, fuel light, eng light, abs light . . . . All the lighted squares around the gear (dl321) stayed lit and would not shut off until I turned the engine off and then they didn't shut off until the automatic cut off . . Shut them down. Checked all the fuses and the fmc and the pdc to clean connections and didn't change. Disconnected the battery cables and then reconnected them. Still nothing called the dealer and he said that they could connect the diagnostic but sounded like the module needed to be replaced at a start of $500. My headlights have been having on and off problems every once in a while along with the drivers window not going down then it works fine for a long time and then stops again.
Door locks stopped working, no one fuse to change for it, different forums says to unhook battery cable and fuses to restore power to door locks, this worked for about 3 days, door locks are not working again. Over it!!!!.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph the vehicle was experiencing electrical failures. The contact mentioned that no warning lamps were illuminated on the instrument panel. The horn and windshield wipers activated, and wiper fluid started spraying before the vehicle stalled. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was maneuver to the shoulder where he removed the battery cable and fuses that governed the horn and wipers in order for the failure to stop. Also, the transmission failed to shift and there were multiple electrical popping noises throughout the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the wireless module was defective and as a result, the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the remedy failed to correct the problem. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 76,000.
Vehicle started to accelerate on its own. It made it a foot or so before stopping. Soon after, the vehicle at random turned on the wipers and horn. Ignition became non-responsive and I had to pull battery cable to silence everything. Had to take it to the dealership for repair and received lecture about not pulling battery cable and was charged $90 so a tech could fix this. The tipm module had failed and needed to be replaced.
Washed van, parked it in driveway. Suddenly horn is beeping, lights flashing, wipers going and wiper fluid spewing out. Could not turn off with panic button. Could not open doors with fob. Put key in lock and button came up but car kept pushing it into lock position. Finally was able to hold door handle and when lock came up opened door. Could not turn van off. Disconnected battery cables and let vehicle reset itself. Seemed fine. Took out later in the day and wipers and fluid came on again and lights began to flash. Power steering and brakes engaged and could barely get safely off road. After engine turned off by itself could not restart it. Had it towed. Dealer now trying to figure out what is wrong. No computer codes so will probably get vehicle back stating no errors are found. I do not feel safe in this vehicle any more. Dodge should be made to diagnose and fix this problem before someone gets killed. If you view edmunds. Com and carcomplaints. Com/Dodge/grand. . . You will find that many people are complaining about this same problem. Consumers should probably file legal actions before many people get killed because their vehicles seem to have a mind of their own and stop whenever and wherever they so desire. Who can we get to help us resolve this very serious problem with Dodge Grand Caravans????.
The power door locks have been failing intermittently for 3 yrs. I unhook the iod fuse or the battery cable momentarily and this seems to work for a while. The door locks would work for a short time - then fail again until I repeated the fuse or battery cable removal procedure. As time went on the fix would last less & less time. Currently, the locks may only work for a day or so. This is unacceptable. My wife was really scared the other day when someone was approaching the car and she could not lock the doors. She was in an unfamiliar location with the 4 year old in the back seat. While it actually turned out to be a false alarm, it did open my eyes. While I have been just "fixing" it all the time, I realized that I cannot control when and where it will happen and you cannot always get out and reset the fuse. This is a program (firmware) that is failing on a large number of vehicles, see links below. This poses a safety hazard as the van cannot be secured without manually locking all doors, which leaves the tailgate. Why should consumers have to pay for a manufacturer defect? someone needs to protect the consumer. . . . . I am taking the van in to request it be reprogrammed. I am not going to wait until something bad actually happens first. . Read more...
1) 2002, Dodge Grand Caravan, "sport" edition with v6 3. 3l engine, 76,600 miles. Wife went to work and parked van as usual. 2a) CO-workers noticed the van's wipers were on; van had started all by itself after being parked with ignition turned off, key removed, and doors locked. To get the engine stopped again, van was put into gear and turned off, then put into park to remove key. This happened several times that day. 3a) wife took van to Chrysler dealer where it was purchased. Dealer charged 3 hours of troubleshooting labor and only found that the abs cab was in need of replacement. Dealer ordered abs cab. Dealer could not find cause of the startup/running with no key in ignition. 2b) 6 days later (Dec. 21, 2006) van would not turn off after driving ~300 miles. Also, this time all the accessories such as the cabin fans, radio, wipers, and interior lights came on even after the key was removed from the ignition. All accessories except interior lights could be turned off with their respective switches. +battery cable was disconnected to get lights off. Van worked fine for the next 3 days. Dec. 24, 2006, van would not stop running once on the return trip after key was turned off. After arriving home and van was parked with engine off, all accessories came on, by themselves, after a period of time. +battery cable was once again disconnected to prevent further malfunction. 3b) another appointment was made for Jan. 4, 2007 to replace the ignition and/or the key cylinder switch at the dealer.

Positive battery cable shorted to ground melting the insulation on the cable and nearly all interconnected harness wires. Total estimate to repair and replaced damaged wires, starter, sensors, connectors, etc: $3,000+. Investigation still ongoing. . Failure resulted from design placement of positive cable in proximity of strut tower bolt. Battery location for 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan is immediately in front of strut assembly. This cable does not include any insulation sleeve (e. G. , convoluted tubing or loom) and is therefore susceptible to wear and abrasion from vibrations during driving.
