1 Starter problem of the 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/27/2025

Car stalls unexpectedly with no warning or check engine light on. Intermittent occurrences. Sometimes interior lights stay on, sometimes not. Can usually get car restarted right away but not always. Has been doing this for awhile. Never know when it will do it. Has done it at all speeds, while parked and while idling. Have had battery replaced as well as starter. Suspect win module. See below - approximate date is unknown. Has been doing it for so long we don't remember.

2 Starter problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/24/2020

Van stalls while driving, the engine completely cuts out without warning. This has happened several times since January 2020. This happens randomly while driving, while stopped at a light and at idle when in park. This is extremely dangerous because there is no warning, making it impossible to get out of harms way. Sometimes the van would start back up and other times it required a jump start. I have changed my battery and starter, and do not have any other keys on my key fob. There is a recall for the tipm ( totally integrated power module) and the ignition switch. I have called the Dodge dealership as well as checked several websites to see if my vehicle was recalled. It is not based on manufacture date and VIN. I am afraid for myself, my family and other innocent drivers. This is a very serious issue that will cause a very serious accident or fatality. I cannot sell or trade in this vehicle knowing that it is unsafe to drive. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly; 14 - unable to provide information for all the characters in the VIN. #vpic#.

3 Starter problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/02/2020

I have an intermittent crank, no crank issue. Often while driving the vehicle power just cuts off in the middle of the road. The ac also cuts off while driving on its own while the vehicle is running. I have 2 minors wich I drive to school daily and I'm very concerned about our safety. Car has been taken to several mechanics, we have changed the starter, alternator and two new batteries and the loss of power issue remains.

4 Starter problem of the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/06/2020

The van stalls while running and sometimes won't start while the interior lights flicker. While driving, the headlights dim and flicker while the interior lights are normal. I checked my battery, starter, and alternator and the mechanic tested them and said they were all good. They recommended me to go to the manufacturer and check for recalls. Please let me know what to do.

7 Starter problem of the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/25/2019

Monday 3/25/19 10:55am car indicator lights briefly flashed while car was in motion during a turn and then suddenly died. No brakes, no power steering, absolutely nothing worked. Was able to turn car back on and get to parking lot. Same day after leaving(2:30pm) sitting at a busy intersection waiting on red light. Car dash lights again briefly flash and car turns off. Took about 10 min before I was able to start the car again. While sitting in a busy turn lane and not even having hazard lights work with kids in the car. Took car to get battery, alternator, and starter checked. All checked out good. Friday 3/29/19 while driving at 45 mph(8:30 am) car dash lights briefly flash and car turns off. Again no power steering, brakes ect. Waa able to coast to side of rode. Couldn't even take the key out. Also took about 1. 5 hrs before it would start again. Each occurance has also set clocks back to the 12:00 time. Research has shown me that it is a common problem with this vehicle and that it is the fuel pump relay. This part was recalled on durangos and jeeps but caravan did not make the list. Although per what I have read on this site and various others it is an obvious common problem. Vehicle is at 68,000 and is being taken in on Sunday 3/31/19. Where I have already indicated to mechanic what I want replaced due to the fact it is not an easily replicated problem on command and there is no code to check. It seems like the best course of action to tell them to just replace it. This should be a recall matter.

8 Starter problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/24/2019

Since getting the vehicle in oct. 2018, its been in the shop for starter issues. We have replaced the starter 4 times and still doesn't want to start. The next thing we did was replace the tipm module and 2 days later still having a problem with it starting. At times it takes 1-5 minutes to start and at times it doesn't want to start at all. Not sure what is wrong with it. Needless to say we have paid close to $1600 on the vehicle and it still isn't fixed.

9 Starter problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 02/19/2019

The engine will cut off while the vehicle is driving. It does not stall or sputter to a stop, it is an immediate cut off. The vehicle has a brand new battery, and the alternator and starter passed inspection and tested fine. When the engine stops, we attempt to start it back up but the engine doesn't turn over. It will eventually start back up after a few minutes.

10 Starter problem of the 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/08/2018

The tipm is just shot and I've had the altnator replaced the starter and it's definitely tipm related. I don't understand why the recall on this excluded my van, it's been doing this for several months and it's making the vehicle unsafe. Please investigate this situation. (I have 4 kids and two of them have special needs and I need my vehicle to be safe for my kids, and right now it's just a joke and I'm telling you this van is possessed) it's completely unreasonable for the my Dodge to keep burning through everything I've put it in it. Please investigate this, the issue isn't gonna go away and I can't keep burning through parts and further destroying the vehicle. The recall that was issued excluded my van but everything from that recall is happening to my van and has been for several months and Dodge keeps giving me the run around. I've been a Dodge owner my whole life. But Dodge is about to lose a damn good loyal customer because this is beyond ridiculous. Ive been getting the run around from Dodge since the beginning of November of 2018. Please investigate this.

11 Starter problem of the 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

Car battery was dead, was able to jump start several times, then had to jump it everyday. 04/2018 replaced the alternator, starter and battery. 11/2018 car was dead again, could not jump it. Towed to service center, took them 7 hours to recharge battery, but all systems checked as normal. Charge lasted 3 days. Van has been to 2 separate service centers who cannot diagnose why the battery is dying and takes at least 3 hours to recharge. Vehicle has had to be towed twice, cannot take my children in vehicle for fear they will be stranded in the cold with no heat. After vehicle was charged overnight I was able to drive it, but after sitting for 2 hours the battery was dead. Vehicle was towed to big o tires twice and I was able to drive to Dodge dealer. Neither service center found any reason for the vehicle to die.

12 Starter problem of the 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 12/08/2017

It appears that I am one of many Dodge owners with tipm issues. At least once a day when going to start the engine, it just cranks and cranks but won't start. After turning off the key and trying one or two or three more times, it will start. The battery is brand new, and the starter is getting plenty of power. Comparing my experience with what I've read online, I firmly believe the issue is the fuel pump relay switch in the tipm. It started months ago, and has gotten worse. My wife drives this vehicle the most, very often with our kids inside. We just have to hope and pray that it will start and not strand them somewhere. So far, we have only had issues while stationary. Thank goodness it hasn't shut off while driving as many other owners have stated. This is why I feel it is an important safety issue. What if it were to shut off in the middle of a freeway or while crossing an intersection? I find it absurd that Dodge (or fiat Chrysler whatever) would let this issue go while having knowledge of so many tipm issues, even with a class action lawsuit filed against them.

It cranks but it doesn't start. Checked on line and it looks like a lot of Dodge or Chrysler having same issue, fuel pump relay tipm is malfunctioning. This ahould be a recall already. I need to change the fuel box for $1000 or buy a bypass made for (wd) Dodge durango (wk) Jeep grand cherokee from recall safety recall r09 / NHTSA 15v-115 fuel pump relay. 17 Starter problem of the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 09/15/2016

Began with airbag light on panel coming on and random locking and unlocking of doors and dying while traveling at various speeds. All these happen wether the vehicle is in motion or not. Then it would only start using the remote starter and now it only starts when jumped by another running vehicle, even when the battery is fully charged(tested). It will simply crank and crank till battery is dead(about 10 minutes) unless it is connected to another running vehicle. It will start even if battery is close to dead then.

18 Starter problem of the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 09/09/2016

Vehicle began having issues starting, intermittently at first, about 3-4 weeks ago. 4 days ago, vehicles battery was dead, wouldn't start for several attempts. Stalled twice while driving 60 mph continued to not start, battery, alternator, starter, wiring all checked out okay with local repair shop. The fuel pump relay in the tpim (total integrated power module) was bad, required whole tpim to be replaced.

19 Starter problem of the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/26/2016

Would not start on several occasions. Purchased new battery. Took it to local mechanic. Almost put in a new starter but researched it first on the internet. Seemed like it was a faulty tipm. Called local Chrysler dealer and told them the issues. After a week, they said I needed a new tipm ($1200) and would not cover the cost. Said that they did not know anything about a tipm recall. I did not get it replaced. Called Chrysler customer care and they said that I did not qualify for a recall. I have driven Chrysler Dodge caravans for over 25 years and I am greatly disappointed that they are not standing behind their product. They know that there is an issue with all the tipms in their vehicles and they only recalled certain makes and models. Meanwhile, I hold my breath every time I try to start my car. I am retired and cannot afford to replace that part for that price. I had this car as a company car starting in January of 2011 and purchased it from ari in July of 2014.

20 Starter problem of the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/10/2016

The car won't crank on the first try, but after 2 or 3 more times it will crank. Now there is a smell of fuel in the garage after the vehicle is no longer running. After 15 min. Tried to crank the car again and it won't crank. The starter, alternator, and battery both check out to be great. Also notice that the window wipers wipe slow or don't wipe at all when fob is set to the on position.

21 Starter problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/10/2016

Similar to other reports; vehicle will randomly lose power and/or stall. It has happened at slow speeds, stopped at a light, and even on the highway going 70mph. Have to take key out of ignition, wait a few seconds and turn back on and car starts up. Also now having issues to turn on. Lights on dash will blink and dim; radio shuts off; ebs, anti lock brake, engine light all begin to blink. Idle needles gets low. Power brakes lose function. We have owned the car since March 2016, car has 56000 miles. Taken to dealer a few times where the pcm was changed and issued not resolved. Changed faulty pulley on belt system and issue not resolved. Computer does not come back with any codes. Local mechanic checked for starter, alternator, ignition switch issues and all showing good. Vehicle is not part of Dodge recall of other 2010 that are having exact same issue.

24 Starter problem of the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 01/20/2016

Power to the fuel pump. I have noticed that sometimes the vehicle will not start after the first try. Some times I have to turn the key to off then to run three times and then go to start. At that point the vehicle will start. I sometimes can't hear the fuel pump turn on when I go to start the car. I just keep turning the key off and on until I can hear the pump run. It always starts after I can hear the pump turn on. Another problem is every once in a while I will just hear a cling when going to start the vehicle but the starter doesn't turn over just cling. That has happened twice. I got the battery checked out by aaa the battery was just working great.

26 Starter problem of the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 12/05/2015

At first starting my Dodge Grand Caravan mainstreet was a headache. We would go out to start our caravan and it took about 20 to 30 cranks before it would turn over. It stopped cranking on Saturday December 5, 2015. We had to get it towed home. Mind you I work 2 jobs and had to be at my second job on Saturday at 2:30 pm. We got it towed and had a mechanic come out to look at it. He found that the starter had stopped. We took the starter to an auto parts store for them to check it. The starter had died. We purchased the starter and got it installed and our car still would not stay cranked. The mechanic tested all our fuses and our fuse pump and found that one of our fused(m25) that goes to the fuel pump was not getting enough power to it. Researching online I found that Dodge has a civil suit against them for the tipm(totally integrated power module). I have had to walk 2 hours to get to my second job. On some days I have to pay for a taxi(total cost at $46 dollars) that is more than I make a day at my second job. I go to see if there is a recall on my vehicle for the tipm and its not. What do you do? I need transportation. I pay a car note of $480. 00 a month and I can't afford to get this fixed. I will never purchase another Dodge. When all of this started my airbag lights popped on and my brake lights.

27 Starter problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

Dodge Grand Caravan 2010 experiencing the following problems in chronological order: 1) sporadically, while driving vehicle at various speeds on highway and city streets, the low and high beam lights stop working. Dealership said they¿re unable to diagnose problem if it¿s not currently happening and to bring it back when it stops working. 2) sporadically after parking and shutting vehicle off to refuel, when attempting to restart vehicle there is no power to the vehicle, no control panel lights, no clicking noise from the ignition or starter, nothing; the vehicle must be jumped before electrical system responds in order to start the vehicle, which then responds immediately. 3) while parked, the left electric powered sliding door does not open using power, must be manually opened and closed; the left passenger electric window will not function most times when button is pushed. 4) while driving vehicle at various speeds, driving straight and turning, the engine shuts off, restarts after placing in park or neutral and turning ignition key to off position and back to start position. 5) rear air conditioner worked sporadically, then worked increasingly less and less, before it finally stopped working altogether. I believe this is all due to a faulty tipm.

Tried to leave babysitter after 5 minute pickup and van wouldn't start. No power for anything like battery. Charge did not help. Slight click when you turn over key similar to starter but not as loud. Read all reviews for others and with tipm failure and their combined issues sounds like tipm. No power, won't start, shifts rough.

31 Starter problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/04/2015

I received a letter concerning recall r03/NHTSA 14v-373 in June of 2015. On Friday, July 31, we found that the van would not start, but when the key was turned a few times, it would. Thinking that this could possibly be related in some way to the recall, I carefully read the document that stated “… this could cause unintended engine shut off and increase the risk of a crash…. ” the document said nothing about problems initially starting the van. On Tuesday, August 4, as the van would only intermittently start, I brought the van to a local repair shop. The local repair shop diagnosed the problem as a defective starter. After they installed the starter, they told me that they had then done some research and that there was a recall out for this problem. They still charged me $390. 00. I dropped off the van this morning with three Chrysler key fobs, otherwise known as a “frequency operated button ignition key” or fobik, and an additional aftermarket key fob made by ilco, which performs the same functions as the oem key fobs do. The people at larchmont Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram stated that this recall only would replace oem Chrysler key fobs. 1)why does it take three months to set up a date for a safety recall? 2)why did the notice not mention anything about ignition problems but only “unintended engine shutoff?” the way this notice is written, most people would infer that the engine would already be on and one would be driving to experience this difficulty. 3)why, when a local van was brought to a local repair shop, didn’t this diagnostic code immediately mention the recall and state that the recall part is the problem, not the $390 starter? 4)why, if a person has gone through the ridiculous expense and bother of getting four key fobs which all function, and that it is chryslers fault entirely for the problem, can’t an additional key fob be provided?.

The vehicle was repaired, however the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 114,683. Ah.

33 Starter problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 01/09/2015

Drove vehicle to local diner. Upon leaving vehicle did not start acted like the fuel pump and starter were not getting any power. Came back the next day to start vehicle and it started right up. Got vehicle home and shut vehicle off. Went out to start an hour later same problem. Thought is was the starter so had local mechanic change starter still same problem. Local mechanic tested computer for trouble codes and no trouble codes showed. Local mechanic asked dealership mechanic about issues with these vehicles. Dealership mechanic states that the tipm computer usually breaks down.

34 Starter problem of the 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/20/2014

With no warning, I went out to start my 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan, and it turned over for about a second, then it was like someone turned off the power to the starter . . . It just quit! I tried and tried to start it, but all I get is one small click when I turn the key. I got online and did a search, only to find that this problem has been rampant for years now; and Chrysler apparently won't do anything about it. I am currently unemployed and need my van to look for work, and to get to work if I find a job. We are living on my wife's income right now, so I can't afford to put it in the shop, and the warranty has run out. It's only 2 years old . . . There's no way I should be having major problems this soon! I don't know what I'm going to do at this point, but I am furious after reading the horror stories people have posted, where some have spent $2000 - $3000 to get this fixed, and then the problem comes back!!!.

35 Starter problem of the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 09/26/2014

I came out of my house on Friday morning (09/26/2014) to find my van parked in my carport with the engine running. Apparently my car had started the engine and ran for about 20 minutes by itself with no human interaction, this is strange because I do not have a remote starter and it does not have the ability to start on its own. As I approached the car I could see that there was no key in the ignition and that the doors were still locked. I have 2 key fobs, both were in my possession, and using one of the key fobs I was able to unlock the drivers door. There was no sign of forced entry, I am the only one living at my residence and no one else had access to the car keys. I found the ignition switch was in the off position so I inserted the key fob and turned it to the on position an back to the off position several times but the engine continued running. I called the dealership that sold me the vehicle and talked with 2 different service technicians but neither one could offer an explanation. They asked me to bring the vehicle in for service, which I did and I am currently waiting on the disposition. After I got off the phone with the service technician the car stopped running and I was then able to use the key fob to turn on the ignition and to start and stop the vehicle normally. I have owned the van about 3 months and prior to this event I noticed that my power door locks were open sometimes after I had left the car locked. Up until this incident I had assumed that I accidently mashed the unlock button on my key fob while it was in my pants pocket, but now I am not so sure.
