36 Starter problem of the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

My van will try to start but it just keeps trying to turn over. I have to manually turn the key back off and wait, it usually takes about 3 times for it to actually start. It makes the clicking noise like its a starter or battery but both have been checked and are fine.

37 Starter problem of the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

My van's air conditioning wasn't working so I took it into the dealer. . . When they gave it back I had cold air in the front but not in the back, I took it back again, they fixed the air for the front but then the fan wasn't working at all in the back vents, I took it back a 3 rd time finally it seemed fixed, since then I have lost control of using the buttons on my steering wheel, cruise control only works when it wants to, and my vehicle will turn over but has a hard time starting, they have changed out the starter messed with my wiring and changed out my battery, it still isn't fixed. Now my vents in the backseats are not blowing air again, they replaced the starter, the battery and still I am having all these problems. Could this have to do with a recall that hasn't been done on my vehicle? also I bought the van new and have had a few paint jobs to fix the rubbing of the side doors that cause my paint to rub off above the wheel wells, I finally gave up on having it fixed but I know this is an error on Chrysler's side as I can show you atleast two more Grand Caravan's same year with the same rubbed off paint because of side doors. Very disappointed in buying my first brand new caravan.

39 Starter problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/30/2014

2010 Dodge Grand Caravan did not start. This has been an intermittent problem. It has been happening for approximately 1 year. Turn the key and all of the accessories work but starter clicks but will not turn the motor over. Took vehicle to the dealer on 4/30/2014 and was told the starter was bad and was replaced. Drove the vehicle to school that day to pick up child and vehicle did not start. After several tries it started. Drove to work later in the day, shut the vehicle down and tried to restart it and it would not start. Battery has been tested and is good. All signs point to a faulty win. After reading recalls about win wireless interface node modules, I, like several other people, have found that my vehicle does not fall under this recall, missing it by 3 months. Vehicle has been brought back to the dealer to try to get the vehicle to duplicate the problem. Contacted Chrysler/Dodge's 1 800 number and was told the complaint was going to be escalated to the next level because I have called them before about this issue. I now fear that it will shut down when I'm travelling or will not start when I need it to and be left stranded.

41 Starter problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 12/11/2013

Vehicle intermittently does not start. Turn the ignition key and hear the starter click, but does not engage starter and engine does not turn over. Sometimes, on next try (turn ignition switch to off position and then back to start position) will start. Sometimes after many tries it will start. Sometimes turn the key to on, place shifter in drive, then hard back into park and will start then. Have replaced battery, starter, relays, and made no difference. Codes do not come up and dealer has no idea of how to correct.

44 Starter problem of the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

Van has been having problems starting, it makes a clicking noise but the van won't turn on, yet all other electrical devices continue to work perfectly. After several attempts the van will eventually start, but other times we have had to leave it overnight parked due to it not started after trying for almost an hour. We replaced the battery, and the problem persisted. We took it to a Dodge dealership and the win module was replaced and a new key was ordered and reprogrammed at a cost of almost $1000! a few weeks after getting the van back the problem started again and once again left me (pregnant) and my 2 young children stranded in 101 degree temperature. A tech from the dealership met with us this morning to look at the van and suggested it might be the starter. We can't continue to purchase parts and pay for labor and yet the vehicle isn't working as it should. This is dangerous for a pregnant woman with a newborn on the way and two young children.

45 Starter problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

My 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan has intermittent trouble starting. The starter has been replaced twice, and the win module (and key) have been replaced. The same issue has been occurring, but never duplicates for the dealership. Their computer scan brings up no issues. The battery has been tested and is in good condition. It doesn't matter the time of day, or driving circumstances, the van will not always start. It will have one click (and I can close the windows, turn on radio) but the van will not start.

46 Starter problem of the 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

I have had so many major problems with my 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan! I bought it used in 2008 w/ 68k miles. At that time the transmission had already been replaced. I had to replace the entire power steering system ($2000), auto window regulator, ac blower, tires, alternator belt, water pump, etc. The engine light has been on for some time now and mechanic says misfiring spark plugs. When serviced for problem(@ 170k miles) discovered original factory sp still in. Horrible corrosion/build up, had 2 fuel system flushes. Light on again. Newest & most dangerous problems,on multiple occasions now, van has completely turned off while driving, idling, and parked. It happens randomly and unexpectedly. More frequently while at lower speeds or parked but once while I was actually driving. When it cuts off the oil light remains illuminated. The car turns right back on. 5 times while driving 25-50mph has gone into cruise control by itself, and I loose control until it decides to give it back! today, for the first time, after parking and turning car off myself, it would not restart. Ignition not responding, no noise, nothing. Tried to jump it and nothing, notices that lights and other electrical components not effected. Fortunately an observer also happened to be a mechanic, he took out the starter fuse and stuck some wires in the socket and had me turn the key, it started!!! he said that it seems there is an ignition communication problem, a. K. A. Computer problem. I have 4 kids that are always with me and this is our only vehicle. If the vehicle is dependent on the computer to function, then I have zero room for communication problems. I have reviewed all of the complaints for this make/model/year, there are multiple complaints that are similar if not identical to mine. I wonder how many complaints have to be filed before action is taken? does someone have to die first?.

47 Starter problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 06/07/2012

June 2012, while driving the vehicle from a restaurant from dinner, the vehicle suffered a power failure which immediately caused the vehicle to power down while driving on the highway. I was forced to make a best attempt to pull over to the side of the road, which was made difficult by the fact that the brakes were powered by the electrical systems as was the steering. I subsequently called a mechanic who came and checked out the minivan but, no work was performed because when the mechanic arrived, the car started and drove perfectly and all of the voltages for the electrical systems tested okay. A month later, after arriving home and parking my car, I noticed that the cooling fan was still operating although the vehicle has been shut off. I then immediately started the car and did every check possible to make sure that I had not left anything on. After checking under the hood and closing the hood itself, the fan shut off on its on. Within a matter of weeks, this same problem began repeating itself and would only stop once the battery ran down. I eventually had the fan relay/starter replaced after a mechanic suggested that this was the issue. I have subsequently found that the fan no longer stays on. However, the vehicle continues to either shut down while driving with no apparent cause and I am still experiencing problems with the vehicle's battery draining, although nothing appears to have been left on. The electrical problems have continued to get worse and increasingly dangerous and I have called several Dodge dealerships to speak with mechanics. To generalize, a majority of the mechanics have dealt with other consumers who have experience some or all of the same issues and suggest that the tipm is faulty and that this is a common issue on Chrysler and Dodge minivans of the same year and being that this is the case that they expect to see a recall issued.

48 Starter problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/16/2012

The engine died and would not turn back on while driving. Suspect this is due to faulty ignition win control module or ignition system . Nearly caused a crash. Was able to slow down (lost brakes, and power steering) and pull to side of the road avoiding being hit by other cars. Tried starting the vehicle several times it then started again. ( took to dealership and they changed out our fob/key thing. And seemed to fix the issue. Most recently 3/12/14 parked, attempted to restart vehicle 10 min later and the key will not turn over the engine. (plastic fob type key) no starter noise. ( lights work, key in ignition warning ding occurs. Lights turn on but no radio, or engine start. Will not restart now.

49 Starter problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

When key is inserted into the ignition and turned, the vehicle does not start. The starter makes a click sound but does not turn over. Several attempts turning the key are needed to start the vehicle. Sometimes after trying 5-10 tries with no start, pulling the key out and reinserting will start the vehicle. Eventually, the car will start normally. The battery has been checked and fully charged during all incidents. This has happened approximately 20 different times over the last 5 months. It has been brought to the dealer twice for this issue the dealer has not been able to reproduce the failure. Recently, this problem has been occurring more frequently. This not a safe feeling not knowing that maybe the next time, I will be stranded. Frustrating since there is a known problem but the dealer will not do anything about it. It was brought in 10/12/2010 and 3/28/2011. Since the last visit, the problem has occurred 3 different times.

50 Starter problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/25/2009

I purchased my van in March of 2009 from lee Chrysler. It was a one owner with some warranty left on it. A week or two, maybe less my husband and I had problems with the keyless entry keys not opening the van. After several trips to the dealership that problem was resolved. From that time on, every few months there was another problem. I have all the documentation, as to when all the work was done and what. When I purchased the van the previous owners had already replaced the brakes and starter. I found this out when I had to replace the brakes October 2011 and the starter in the spring of 2012. Since these items were under warranty in 2008, the first time they were replaced, I think it was the dealerships place to tell me that this work had been done. In July 2013 the ignition stopped working and I had to have it replaced. Lee Chrysler doesn't have cars to loan, I had to rent one at my expense. They ordered and repaired the ignition, then my keys would not program to the new ignition, so I had to wait, paying for the rental another 3 days for them to order new keys, at my expense. The company should have know that old keys, the type I have, would not program to a new ignition. This is just the things that I have receipts for. The recalls I don't have all of them, but you have that list. I think since the company sold me a bad van in the beginning that they should help me get into a vehicle I could afford to replace this one. Ok I know you say why didn't I contact you or someone before now. I did write to Chrysler CO. In 2010 and they said they were sorry I was unhappy with my van, but there wasn't anything they could do. I also sent them a e-mail. They will not do anything, my van only has 70,000 miles on it. Thank you for your time.

51 Starter problem of the 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 10/25/2008

Randomly will start up and immediately shut down. After 3 times, will not start. Have had it taken to 4 different mechanics over the last 18 months. 2 were Dodge dealerships. One dealership replaced the starter for $440. The next dealership (I was out of town for christmas, so couldn't return to first dealership) replaced the power train control module for $800. Still have had the problem. The message board is full of people with the same problem and dealers replacing the same parts that I have had replaced and still not getting fixed. If I can look on the internet and see what is wrong, why can't a mechanic? I will have the instrument panel cluster changed next and it better be no charge!!.

52 Starter problem of the 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/01/2005

My 2003 new Dodge caravan had the transmission replaced x3, air conditioner replaced x1 then repaired again x 2, replaced starter, wheel bearing, tie rod & continues to have problems. These major problems started when the car had only 30, 000 miles and is only at 60, 000 miles. The dealer nor Chrysler corporation will replace or refund this car stated it does not fall under lemon law. Multiple time lost from taking in this car to be fixed along with extra money spent to get rentals while this car was in the shop.

53 Starter problem of the 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 09/10/2003

About three or four times a week I will lose my dash guages. The lights and upper dash light will still work but guages won't. After no set amount of time it will power back up and doors will lock down, seat belt light will come on and van will act like it just started (goes through intial start up sequence). Sometimes the van won't start. Key will be turned and van will start up and immediately stall. This will happen three times and then doesn't roll over or anything. Lately van will lock and unlock itself continually while driving, sometimes unlocking itself after alarm has been set risking the loss of valuables in the car while we are away. The check engine light comes on periodically and we take it into dealer and the computers aren't communicating so they replace wires, etc and fixes for a little while but doesn't fix the stalling problem, etc. Dealer doesn't know what is wrong and suggested replacing all wiring at $2000 but no guarantee this is causing problem. We have already spent close to $700 on new starter, etc. To no avail. On message board someone suggested when it doesn't start before it completely won't turn over to turn the key over and hit the dash as hard as possible and it worked. . . . Started right up. Suggested the circuit board is bad. Why can't the dealer figure this out. Still costs $500 to fix. We don't have the money to keep putting into van. . . . We just bought it less than a year ago. . . But we can't afford to get anything else right now either.

54 Starter problem of the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/04/2002

Re:Dodge Grand Caravan se, l996 continual problems with electrical system. Sudden lack of power when driving on freeway, narrowly avoiding serious accidents. In researching on various web sites, this seems to be a recurring problem for other owners as well. The dealer has kept the car twice so they could 'duplicate the problem', they replace one sensor or another. Last replacement seems to have worked but still don't trust the car and won't drive on freeway or far from home. Now have trouble starting the car, the dealer said it's probably the crank sensor. They say since I only have 33,000 miles on the car, it shouldn't be the starter. Also, I have history of the wipers turning on and off whenever they feel like it. They also establish their own rhythm when working. The wiper sensor has been replaced 3 times. The computer never shows an error code so obviously, it isn't working either. The speedometer will float and sometimes will show 0 miles an hour when I'm moving. They replaced the speedometer sensor twice and now it seems to be working. I have seen all of these complaints listed on various web sites. The dealer acts like I'm crazy and they have never heard of these problems before. My main concern is the sudden lack of power, the engine just turns off, no power steering either when this happens. I wonder how many accidents have been a result of this obvious defect. . . As soon as I can afford it, I will be replacing this van with a non-Dodge vehicle.
