2 Dash Wiring problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

2005 Grand Caravan - dashboard lights flicker, gauges go crazy, radio dies and sometimes engine stalls. We have noticed these events occur after driving the van 30 minutes or more. Where as the flickering was an annoyance the stalling issue could be hazardous if this should occur on the highway. Some online research has said a possible problem with a wiring harness but my closest dealership cant find the issue.

5 Dash Wiring problem of the 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/10/2005

1) events leading up to failure: each time this has occurred after or during a summer vacation trip that included 700+ miles. Use of the ac usually continues on low fan speeds (1 or 2). 2) failure and consequences: first failure would be the power windows would begin not to work. Second a relay fuse would go bad. Then the switch that controls the fan speeds would short out only allowing for high fan speed only. 3)have not be able to fix the switches due to dealer charging high rates just to look for the electrical failure with no guarantee they would be able to find the fault and still wanting $70+/hour before any repair work is started. We have owned a 1996 caravan and 2001 gr caravan and this problem has happened on both vehicles.

6 Dash Wiring problem of the 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 01/12/2005

The dashboard instrument cluster, which includes the speedometer, tachometer, and odometer, keeps shorting out. The turn signals are on the same circuit. This has happened three times in the last month. Initially the shop replaced the fuse. The second time, they stated there was a short in the circuit that had to be repaired. A neighbor of ours who owns a town & country has had the same problem. It is hazardous to drive the vehicle without the turn signals, not to mention not knowing the speed of the vehicle.

9 Dash Wiring problem of the 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 07/06/2004

I experienced ramdom failure of the headlights on my Dodge caravan. I brought this to the attention of my dealer and they said they "could not duplicate concern". I was told the cause was probably the "front control module" but they would not replace it because they were not positive it was the cause, and because of the cost of the part. After this occured the second time I took it to my own mechanic and he replaced the module at a cost of $307. 05. The replacement occured 9/15/2004. I have had no similat problems since the module was replaced. I had purchaced the extended warrenty with the vehicle but I was told by the dealer the module was not covered by the policy. It covers 7 different named control modules but not this one. I called Chrysler and registered a complaint-#12641005.

10 Dash Wiring problem of the 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/19/2004

The instrument panel lights did not turn on with the headlights.

11 Dash Wiring problem of the 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/25/2004

I just purchased my 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan July 26,2003. In March of 2004, I got into my van, started it up, and when I went to back up I heard a ding and my abs light came on and then went off. From that point on, the abs light would come on and when it did, the controls in the dashboard would stop working. I would loose my odometer, tachometer, gas gauge, speedometer, and gear select. I took it to a Dodge dealership, they had it for 3 days and said that they could not find the problem. I then took it to an automotive electrical service shop, they have had my van for 3 weeks and can not find the problem. They have supposedly called Dodge and Dodge is not helping them. They recommend us taking it back to a Dodge dealership again. Obviously there is a problem with the van and no one can find it and I can not drive the van safely without this problem being fixed.

13 Dash Wiring problem of the 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 02/01/2003

About a year ago the airbag warning light came on, the horn stopped working, and the cruise control stopped working. The vehicle is a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan. We had the clockspring replaced just this month for a bill of $266. 00. The 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan was recalled for this very problem. It looks like the problem has not been rectified in the 1999 models.

14 Dash Wiring problem of the 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 10/11/2002

Vehicle was brought to dealership 6 times for the same reported electrical problem. When vehicle went over bumps, turned right, or owner turned on the heat. . . . . The interior lights would flash, door locks would go up and down, and the emergency brake light and the door ajar lights on the dash would flash. Each time we brought the vehicle to be checked we were told that electrical problems were hard to diagnose unless it was physically happening while being diagnosed! the dealership adjusted the doors and replaced the bcm motor under the dash however electrical problems continued and on 10/11/02 the vehicle caught fire in the dash by the steering column while I was driving it with my children in the vehicle!!! we got out without injury thank goodness but the vehicle was totally engulfed within 6 minutes! to Dodge this was no loss to such a large company but to my husband and I. . . It could have been our 4 children! mr.

15 Dash Wiring problem of the 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/15/2002

Will not pay for this repair! considering buying another gm product instead. This is the 3rd and final Chrysler purchase. Love the vehicle, but too many defects for the price paid. Dt.

16 Dash Wiring problem of the 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 06/01/2002

We received a safety recall notice on a fuel rail problem. On 10/08/02 my wife took our van in for the appointment at savannah Dodge for the repair. When she picked it up they told her they noticed the air bag light was on and they had diagnosed it as a clockspring failure. They told her it would be $181 to repair it. We told them we wouldn't do it then. On November 5 my wife was involved in a left frontal collision and only the passenger air bag deployed. Fortunately no one was seriously injured in our car. That is not the point of my complaint. Today we received a hand written postcard from the dealer saying our car was involved in a factory recall clockspring b24. I thought this was quite unusual that the notice came from the dealer and not Chrysler. I just did some research and found that in August 2001 TSB 08-010-01 was issued on this problem, and there's quite a consumer controversy over whether this is a safety item or not and whether it warrants a safety recall. So what's suddenly changed? is it really a recall or is the dealer just trying to drum up business? this seems to be an unfair business practice. I have saved the postcard in case you'd like it. Dt.

18 Dash Wiring problem of the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/04/2002

My husband would be driving and out of nowhere the vehicle shuts off. Everything on the dash went out. About 2 to 3 seconds later it came back on but barely working. The car behind us almost hit us. When the car re-started the dash lights were flickering and the instruments were not reading right. Ontop of that we could not turn the air or radio or anything else because it made the problem worse. Prior to this it happen to my husband twice on the same day. In March we took it to the dealership and told them the problem we have been having on top of other issues. We only had this Mini van for a year and we already had to repair the air conditioner 2x , fuel pump because it was leaking, the first time they could not find the prombem and said it was an overfill of gas, second time they found the problem and fixed it. Also out of pocket for brakes, and rotor. We were hoping for some kind of exchange for this. During the year we had this Mini van the dealership change hands again. Now the current owner is getting complaints from customers who purchase a vehicle from there last year, per our conversation with the sales manager. They had to re-run our credit and take all our personal information all over again. Next morning I was told that the bank /lender wants $2500. 00 upfront as good faith, because we still owe on the vehicle. Like I said earlier the car is finace for 5 years. Also the part that is needed cost anywhere between $385 to 209 approx. And labor $300. 00 or so. So we would be paying close to $685 or more. Also this part is not under warranty nor under extended warranty. I can not understand that since it is an electrical componet. If anyone can help please, we really would like to get rid if it or somehow get it fix.

Beginning about three weeks ago, the airbag light would be intermittantly illuminated. When it was on, the horn and cruise control would not work. When it was off, the systems seemed to work fine. Now, the airbag light is off all of the time and all of the systems are failing to work. Additionally, on three occasions, the first in September 2000 and most recently April 2001, when the car is turned on, none of the electrical on the dash operates. 28 Dash Wiring problem of the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/28/1999

This vehicle has been the worst vehicle I have ever owned because of continuous ongoing problems ,the biggest of which was the engine head failure which cost me about a $1,000. 00 thats with Dodge paying an additonal $800. 00 for the parts. Now a year later, my transmission is failing and does not change gears. Please help I promise not to buy a Chrysler product again, I swear. All the other problems have been nagging, but tolerable. Failure Date: 01/01/1999

Windshield wipers come on by themselves at random while driving.

32 Dash Wiring problem of the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 10/01/1998

Body control module failure occurred during a move from maryland to georgia, resulting in failure of windshield wipers during rainstorm. Arrived at dealer only 451 miles after expiration of 75k warranty. However, neither the dealer nor Chrysler would assist in repair costs. Have submitted two lengthy voq's today as I am finally fed up with this Chrysler product and the failure of Chrysler and the NHTSA to enact additional forced recalls of these vehicles. The transmission, fuel tank, body control module, clock spring (which resulted in inoperative airbags), and suspension parts all failed long before they should have. Additionally, a cursory search of both NHTSA and other web sites reveals that these parts have a high failure rate. Despite being replaced by a dealer only two years ago, the steering rack on my minivan is already failing again. I am extremely unimpressed with both the quality of this vehicle and the lack of support from Chrysler in addressing repeated failures.

33 Dash Wiring problem of the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan
