2000 Grand Caravan. . . . . Initially, the instrumentation cluster would intermittently extinguish. Hitting a bump, it would come back on. Most recently, the van will not start. No instruments, no click, no nothing. If you whack the top of the dash with your fist, all instruments come on, and the van starts. I have not repaired it yet, but intend to pull the dash and check for bad solder connections.

14 Instrument Panel problem of the 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan

The instrument cluster constantly shorts out, causing the car to not run . We have taken the vehicle to numerous service centers and dealers, none of which could determine the problem. This has been an ongoing problem for the last six years. We have contacted the dealer they say there is no recall for this. We demand a response from them and they do not return our calls.

16 Instrument Panel problem of the 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 12/08/2007

Instruments and instrument panel lights become inoperative with no warning. In the past several years, while driving the 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan, without warning, the instrument panel lights would go off and all gauges would quit working. Usually, a smack on the top of the dashboard would bring it back, however, lately this did not work. The latest incident was on a cold, dark, wet evening with my wife driving and the children in the van. This problem results in not being able to see the speedometer nor the gear selection. I feel this is an unsafe condition that should be looked into by the manufacturer. In performing an internet search on this subject, it appears there may be a manufacturing defect with the soldering of some connectors for the instrument panel. Thank you.

17 Instrument Panel problem of the 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 09/13/2007

The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan. From September of 2007 until may of 2008, the vehicle was taken to the dealer three times for transmission failure. While attempting to accelerate from a red light, the transmission feels as if it will drop to the ground when shifting from first to second gear. On may 14, 2008, the transmission was finally repaired under warranty. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection because paint was peeling from the rear passenger side quarter panel. The dealer stated that tar adhered to the paint; therefore, they washed the quarter panel and scraped off the paint. When the vehicle and headlights are turned off, the instrument panel lights, fog lights, and headlights would remain illuminated, even though the switch was in the off position. While the vehicle was parked, the exterior lights would illuminate automatically, which drained the battery. The dealer stated that the headlamp switch shorted out. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact stated that the switch on the panel to shut the vehicle doors did not work for two days. It has begun to work again, but the contact believes it is only a matter of time before the switch fails again. The current mileage was 7,000 and failure mileage was 2,500. Updated 07/10/08. Updated.

21 Instrument Panel problem of the 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 07/08/2006

1998 Dodge Grand Caravan - when new, recalled for safety belt repair/replacement and air bag clock switch replacement. For about the past 2 years, the interior light switch and instrument panel lights switch from dim to light with a clicking sound but has not been a problem I feel needed immediate addressing. More recently, rear air vents blow cold/warm/hot air when a/c is turned on. However, front vents blow ice cold air. Rear air vents function differently each time we start the car. All these electrical problems cause me great concern for our family of 5 regarding other essential systems that might be affected in the future. After reading all the other problems with this brand, I'm fairly certain we will be purchasing a more reputable brand when we replace our car. What is Chrysler doing to address these numerous electrical problems?.
