The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Intrepid. The contact noticed that the vehicle was leaking oil. On December 14, 2008, the contact heard a noise when the vehicle was accelerated. He took the vehicle to his mechanic and was informed that the motor failed. He took the vehicle to another garage and the mechanic stated that the motor was failing and needed to be replaced. A new motor would cost $6,200. A report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that they would not assist with the repair. The vehicle has not yet been repaired. The current and failure mileages were 71,489.
Husband driving home from work at the busiest time of the day car acted like it was going to turn off at a stop light. He turned off the busy rode and the car just suddenly turned off. Started smoking he opened the hood and saw that fluids had leaked out. Nearby was a mechanic shop with help pushed it there. Was put on a diagnostic and we were told that the engine was gone result of a oil sludge problem which causes engine failure. Estimated cost for new engine $5372. I have done some research on this problem and wouldn't even consider putting a new engine in this car.
I had set up an appt. To take my 2001 Dodge Intrepid in for an oil change and to have the engine light checked because it had recently come on. Within a few days of making that appt. , my oil light started coming on every time on put the brakes on. I was able to bring the car in earlier. We had to rent a vehicle for the weekend which we couldn't afford. By the time this was all said and done, our mechanic told us we had an anti-freeze leak and an oil leak. They refuse to repair either one because the last time they fixed an oil leak on a Dodge Intrepid, the car still broke down and they got sued. They can't get to the anti-freeze leak without taking the engine out which in turn will cause more problems with our engine. We're constantly putting oil in it and anti-freeze. We're still paying on this car. We're not the only people with this same problem. There are a couple of class action law suits out there and Chrysler should give people their money back. We have a child in the latter stages of kidney failure and this is suppose to be our reliable vehicle to get her back and forth to albany.
I have a 2001 Dodge Intrepid with less than 70,000 miles on it. I just found out it has an oil leak along with other problems. The mechanic said he didn't recommend that I put too much money into it because of the poorly designed engine. As per my mechanic, Chrysler knows of this problem. I have also done the research online and seen hundreds , if not, thousands of complaints. It is ridiculous in a time where most cars run for several hundred thousand miles that a company gets away with a deliberately poorly designed engine that basically starves itself internally of oil, my mechanics words. I think Chrysler should be held accountable for their deliberate actions that are harming thousands of hard-working people.
1) I bought a 2001 Dodge Intrepid. . . What other events do you need? I later found out that the 2. 7l engine is notorious for engine failure. I had changed the oil every 3m miles and noticed that the engine would make a ticking noise if the oil was low. I wouldn't wait 3m miles because I was changing the oil every time it started to tick. Never once did my oil light come on. 2) the engine was making a ticking noise and I drove it to work. I drove back from work and was driving 20 - 30 mph home and the oil light and the check engine light went on and the car died. I had to have the car towed and was told that the engine had seized and was -4 quarts low of oil even though there was no leak and no spots in my parking area to tell me that I was losing oil. Since the failure, I have it in storage at a friend's parking spot and am still making payments on a car that I can no longer drive . I have two years of payments to go until I can finally "officially" junk it. The consequences are that I am paying 6,000 dollars on a car that doesn't work. 3) I was told that it would cost $4,000 to get another engine and have not done so and went out and bought a used Honda for that amount with more miles that will run longer. All parts are in tact on the vehicle just as I purchased it.
My 2001 Dodge Intrepid engine failed while trying to pull off of the road leaving my mother half in and half out of traffic. The mechanic states there is no oil within the engine. However, we just had a complete oil change in October of this year. There is has been no sign of leaking and no oil light indicator until immediately prior to the engine locking. After reading everything on the website I am appalled that Dodge can get away with this. As consumers we have to join together and force them to take responsibility. The average consumer cannot afford to throw hard earned money out of the window. We plan to junk the car and not risk further loss after reading these horror stories. I will never purchase another vehicle from Dodge or Chrysler. I spoke with an online engine rebuilder who called this the "engine of the year". They are selling so many there is a backlog. . I have been having a problem with my engine oil light flashing at random. Also the oil just seems to disappear into thin air. I have had the oil signet unit replaced and I follow regular oil change schedules. I have taken it to the auto mechanic on several occasions due to small oil leaks. I have heard horrifying stories concerning the 2001 Dodge Intrepid and their engine failures. I have to believe that they are true because as of right now two of my CO-worker's 2001 Dodge Intrepids are sitting on our college campus due to engine failures. I am so terrified of driving this car. My job requires that I do a lot of traveling and I only have this one vehicle. Based on my research in the last couple of months that Chrysler is well aware of this major defect and should be held accountable.
The contact stated the engine failed while driving at 65 mph. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop. The serviceman said that the engine would have to be replaced. The antifreeze leaked into the oil. The engine locked. The manufacturer has not been contacted. The contact does not plan to repair the vehicle.
Dt:consumer was driving 60-65 mph in 2001 Dodge Intrepid when he heard a noise like a hose bursting or breaking. Immediately looked at temperature gauge ,and it went to hot. Consumer turned on the heater, and the vehicle temperature went back to normal. Consumer pulled off the road, and looked under the hood, and saw that was oil leaking. Consumer parked the vehicle at that point and there was a steady flow of oil, at some point it did stop. Consumer was having the vehicle towed.
Bought 2001 Intrepid with 53000 miles on it, I changed my own oil in it every 3000 miles, at 83000 miles I heard a slight rod knock, took it to dealer they said it needed a new engine, I have an extended Ford warranty but was not honored because they said it had an oil leak and the oil and filter reciepts and the credit card bills from napa was not sufficient proof the oil had been changed. The car never leaked oil , they are using that as an excuse and it is there word against mine, meanwhile I have a 2001 Intrepid that they want me to pay for tearing it down, and I get my car back in peices or pay them twice as much and they will put it back the way it was. Or pay the 7000 dollars to put an engine in it when they said the whole car was only worth 4900.
Normal driving on interstate. Engine light came on. Before I could get onto next exit (1/4 mile), engine started knocking. Took exit and pulled directly into closed car dealership parking lot. Engine died. Oil leaking from engine. Called mechanic. Towed car to his shop. Had car for 6 months trying to find replacement engine. Put in rebuilt engine. After 5 months, engine began knocking as before. Stopped immediately and had towed to my house where it now sits. 1st engine and parts not available.
2001 Dodge interpret, the first time the vehicle stalled steering wheel shook and the engine light turned on. Vehicle would still be moving without pressure being put on the gas pedal. Vehicle would shut off and would not start again. Consumer had to try to get the vehicle to start back for about 20 minutes before the vehicle would turn back on. Consumer had taken the vehicle to the dealer various times, and dealer could not find the cause of the problem. After taking the vehicle to the dealer 3 months later he told the consumer that after running a diagnostics test that there was no signal from the cam sensor, dealer replaced the cam sensor and checked it again. Vehicle was still under warranty at this time. The problem happened again around two years later, at the last oil check-up the vehicle was shaking. At first consumer that the problem was from some other matter with the vehicle, afterwards the problems with the vehicle reminded the consumer of the first incident, the vehicle was shaking again, the engine light had come on, there was smoke coming from under the hood. Vehicle stalled again. When consumer tried to drive vehicle again the engine light would come on and the vehicle would shake, after consumer had parked the vehicle it was leaking oil and another fluid mixed with the oil. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer. Dealer said that engine needed to be replaced. Consumer had dialed 911 the second time the vehilce had stalled in the middle of four lane traffic, there was a police cruser that told consumer to move the vehicle. They were suppose to send back up but no one showed up. Consumer was unsure if there was a report filed.
