2 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2006

I own a 2001 Dodge Intrepid with a 2. 7l v-6 engine with just over 83,000 miles on it. Driving between tampa and orlando florida, engine started making a rattling noise and lost power. No warning lights came on and the temperature gauge was normal. I was able to coast to nearby exit and get off of expressway, but stranded in remote area. It appeared car overheated with a burst bleeder housing. After getting it towed to orlando, I learned that the engine blew a head gasket and was damaged beyond repair. Replacement quotes are in the range of $3,500 to $4,000 range.

3 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2006

My Dodge Intrepid se 2. 7l engine suffered a blown engine with no warning on 4-16-06 on my way home from work. There were no indications of a problem, no warning lights and no signs of overheating. I suddenly heard a rattling noise coming from the engine that increased quickly to a loud banging. I got off the exit immediately and coasted into a hotel parking lot. I turned off the engine and raised the hood to see antifreeze all over the engine. I removed the cap to the coolant container and brown antifreeze boiled over onto the ground. The oil had been changed on 2/7/06 and the fluids topped off. The oil and fluids had been checked every week after that up until the engine blew and the fluids were of normal color and consistency. The car had approximately 65,000 miles on it when I purchased it and proper maintenance had been maintained throughout the time I have had my it. The car had just recently reached 100,000 miles and I still owe nearly $5000 on this car, have no vehicle to get to work and can't afford to buy a new one with the car payment I have to make on it each month. I have been told repeatedly that the 2. 7l engine is worthless and there was nothing I could have done to prevent this catastrophe from occurring. It would cost me approximately $2000-$3000 to repair or replace the engine with no guarantee it wouldn't sludge up again and blow a second time. I also experienced numerous other problems from day one, such as constant squealing from the brakes and rotors despite changing them out twice, followed by problems with the steering from suspension problems and problem steering bolts. The problems on this car from day one range from the issues mentioned before to electrical shorts, faulty steering bolts, broken the-rod ends and suspension problems all of which are common issues I have researched and found on numerous blogs and websites such as Dodgeintrepid. Net.

Purchased vehicle in February 2005. Approximately one month after purchase, check engine light came on. Return to dealership for repair, was told it was emissions leak. Vehicle was towed and mechanic said the engine was locked up.

6 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2005

My 2001 Dodge Intrepid 2. 7, the one that has had over 9500 complaints in my area alone. I was driving down the highway when a loud rattling noise started coming from the engine. It sounded like a card in a bicycle spoke. I checked the oil and all the fluids under the hood although it was not time for a change was ok. Then I proceeded down the road when it lost power and quit leaving me stranded. After having the car towed and getting 5 mechanics to look at it, even at the dealership, I was told the motor was blown. It was history with just 84,000 miles on it. Dodge advertises you don't even need a tune up until 100,000 miles. Apparently that is why! I still owe 11,000 on the car, making payments for another year not including insurance that I must carry because it is mortgaged property. Every dealership that I have talked to has told me that the 2. 7 motor from Dodge doesn't last past 70,000 miles. It will cost me between 6500 to 7000. 00 for another motor and most mechanics don't want to fix it because of previous history's with the Dodge 2. 7 motor. I can't trade it because it has no value now. I can't sell it without a running motor, so appears that I will have an expensive lawn ornament for the next year. One mechanic even told me that there was a class action law suit to Dodge concerning the 2. 7 engines, but I have not been able to find it yet. I have seen more complaints posted on the web about this engine and others looking for the class action suit, that I am shocked. I hope no one else has to go through what we have with this car. I will certainly never buy another Dodge vehicle.

7 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2005

I was driving and saw the oil light flicker which I thought was strange as I had just had oil changed less than 1000 miles before. Then heard a rattling noise in the engine was close to a mechanic so I pulled in and he informed me that he had 5 of these engines with the exact same problem looked at my paperwork found that I had a 7 year 100000 mile warranty as I am only at 78000 had my car towed to a dealer.

8 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2004

2001 Dodge Intrepid se started making a loud rattling noise for no reason. Had car towed to a garage, and mechanic refused to work on it. Had car towed to second garage, mechanic told us that the engine needed to be replaced. Car had 70000 miles and kept in good condition with regular oil changes and mantaince. Told it would cost $5000 for repair still owe $12000 on car. This is absolutly unreal. I guess it will just sit and rot in my driveway. Some one needs to make Dodge walk up to the plate. This is pure robbery. I was also told that this year Intrepid was bad for engine failure. And this web site proves it.

9 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem
