1 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2020

My wife drive this vehicle mostly to work and I am afraid for her to drive anymore I had to replace the brake calibres they lock up and then I end up replacing the roeder and the brake pads they are also the power steering pump I had to replace and the hoses for it has busted a few times. I have luckily been the one driving when it has done any of those things. I'm afraid of my wife to drive it anymore. It is her car. I own a Dodge dakota and love it,but the Journey is a terrible made vehicle. I'm not expecting anything from this just want Dodge to know, but I'm sure they already do.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2015

Tires wore down at an alarming rate at just under 100 miles and brake pads also. Doesn't start at some times. . Just a click. . . Turns off for no reason. . . When in park it acts like it wants to move forward . . . Cannot keep an alignment.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2015

My name is [xxx] and I am complaining about my 2009 Dodge Journey r/t awd. First the electrical system or wiring harness has a severe problem. It does not want to start like it should. I've been through 2 good interstate batteries in the last 2 years that have not seemed to work. Next and the most dangerous is the braking system which is to small for this vehicle. From what I have researched they used a braking system from a Dodge magnum(in the series 1 from 2008-2012) when it should have been used from an SUV. The rotors where out after 9000 miles while the front pads go after 3000-4000 miles. Leaving the back brake pads with the longest life of around 5000 miles this is with aggressive or non-aggressive driving it doesn't matter. This kind of brake and rotor wear and tear is nowadays unheard of. This kind of vehicle is unsafe and very expensive for the average american vehicle owner. These vehicles are as plain as day as much of a lemon as they come. Between the electrical or ignition problems that are as plain as day and can not be fixed by your average mechanic and thousands of dollars. Also the breaking system which is to small that also can't be fixed without many thousand dollars worth of parts and labor. Not to mention the thousands that have already been put into these problems that did not fix for long. The only other thing that I feel that can happen is for there to be a recall by Dodge. To fix the electrical-ignition problem and to have a bigger breaking system put on like they did the (series 2 Journey from 2012 on till now). And the braking issues are better. So if they can do it now why can they fix the series 1. I think it's a combination of laziness and greediness with there money. Pleas help my vehicle right along with the other tens of thousands who have the same problems. Don't let Dodge get away with this and help make these problems an active recall !! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

5 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2013

I have been having problems with my 2009 Dodge Journey. I also have problems trying to turn it on sometimes. I believe it might be the key or ignition. I bought a new battery thinking my old one was dead and it also started great for a few weeks and then it started doing it again. Sometimes I turn the key around and it turns on fine and sometimes it does not. It is frustrating because sometimes it does it when I am away from home. I am also having problems with my front brakes or suspension because when I press on the brakes my steering wheel starts to shake. I had my brake pads and rotors checked and they are good. I just do not know what else to do because every trip to the mechanic costs money. There should be a recall on this vehicle!.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2013

The brakes on the Dodge Journey 2009 apparently are too thin/ not heavy enough for the weight of the vehicle. . Apparently every 10,000 to 25,000 miles they will need to have new brake pads and resurfacing of rotors or replacement. . Seems, depending onthe weight you carry in the vehicle their may be a failure in the braking system. . I bought the vehicle new and only have 26,000 + miles on it. . I have read that Dodge should redesign and install a new braking system. . Being retired,, I expected this to be my last vehicle. I bought american auto when the american industry was asking the government for assistance. Im disappointed Dodge hasn't stepped up and taken responsibility for this problem. . It will cost me $260. To over $400. Every time for this. .

7 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2012

Brakes were replaced in November of 2011. Took car into dealer for oil change and now rotors and brakes need to be replaced again. On top of that the calibers are rocking back and forth. Roughly 3 months after the pads were replaced the same squeaking and scrapping noise can be heard when braking.

9 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2011

I replaced front brake pads and rotors every 10000 miles for this car. Dealer says "it's normal" !!!.

10 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2011

2009 Dodge Journey, bought brand new, on 4th replacement of front and rear brake pads and rotors. Car needs brakes and rotors between 3rd and 4th repair at 5,000 miles! metal to metal sound, feels like tie rod is breaking and steering wheel shakes very badly. Vehicle is a lemon and Chrysler will do nothing to help. Due to the number of complaints on brakes a recall or repair should be being addressed by Chrysler not carried by the consumers pocket and health. If I have an accident in this car, all of the complaints on this site will be referenced for my subsequent lawsuit. Last Dodge of 4 previous vehicles that I will purchase!.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2011

Noticed brakes were wearing received letter from Dodge extending warranty but we were slightly over on miles. We replaced front pads and rotor. Now a year later they need replaced again. At 55000 miles.

12 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2011

I own a 2009 Dodge Journey that I bought brand new. In 2 years I have gone through multiple brake pads and the car has almost no mileage.

13 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

Brake failure on 2009 Dodge Journey sxt. Brake pads and rotors need to be replaced after 12,000 miles. I'm concerned about brake failure and the possibility of injury or death.

14 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2011

My front brake pads and rotors required replacement in may of 2011 at 34,795 miles. The driver's side front brake pad and both rear pads needed replaced by December of 2011, as well as resurfacing all rotors. The mileage at that time was approx 48,000 miles.

15 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2011

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that when applying the brakes, there was a loud grinding that caused the brakes to wear prematurely. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the rotors and brake pads at a cost of $50 and offered an extended the warranty. The manufacturer was contacted and a claim was file. The manufacturer advised that the claim would be escalated and the contact should expect a return call at a later date. The failure mileage was 18,000.

16 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2011

2009 Dodge Journey brakes and rotors are failing way before normal cars should. Based on my experence it was 25000 miles with no warning, I. E. Normal sound of brake pads wearing down. I had to pay to get all the rotors and brakes replaced out of pocket with no help from the dealer. I looked online and their are too many complaints of the same type for this to be a fluke. I believe someone could get in a major accident causing a death if this problem is not fixed and it seems Dodge does not want to admit there is a problem yet.

17 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2011

2009 Dodge Journey front brakes (pads and rotors) completely worn out and needed replacing at 26000 miles. Hundreds if not thousands of complaints exist on the internet of similar owner reports. Brake issues pose an extreme safety concern with this vehicle. Chrysler is aware that there exists a problem with these brake systems as they have extend the brake warranty from 2 years 24000 miles to 3 years 36000 miles with a $100 deductible. After the warranty is up all owners will be faced with the full financial burden of brake replacement but of more concern and importance would be the danger of brake failures while driving causing injuries or death. Chrysler has an obligation to provide a long term solution to this problem prior to any injuries or death instead of just extending the warranty.

18 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2011

Premature brake wear due to inadequate brake system to the weight of car. 12k miles brake calibers locked up; 14,500 miles replaced from brake pads and rotors so bad had to be replaced; 26k miles again front rotors had to be turned. Now 3 months later 28k miles I need front and back brake pads and all 4 rotors turned. Can't handle the car on road for excessive grabbing of brakes and steering unable to hold onto when brakes applied. Dodge has had many complaints and law suits filed in NJ. They just recently extended the brake warranty to 36k without no notification however, since I had already been told unwarranted and had to get brakes repaired on a weekend stranded and didn't use mopar parts they will not warranty and now telling me that the rotors are warped due to excessive heat. Yes excessive heat because their is a law suit due to inadequate brakes for the weight of the vehicle. Please help Dodge Journey owners and anyone on the road near them. Unsafe conditions, it is the new Toyota. How many people need to die before corp. Are held accountable they know. The service mgr even acknowledge but states "he didn't design it, didn't build it or broke it".

19 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2011

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the brake pads and rotors wore down prematurely. An authorized dealer replaced the rotors and pads on four occasions in an attempt at duplicating the failure, but the failure continued. The failure mileage was 12,000 and the current mileage was 55,000.

20 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2011

I purchased my 2009 Dodge Journey new, in 2009. The vehicle now has 18,329 miles -- it's basically still brand new -- its still under warranty!!!!. Unfortunately, I have just had to replace all four (4) brake pads, and had all four(4) rotors resurfaced. This cost over $500 -- and the warranty does not cover this! it is my understanding that this is a known issue that the manufacturer is fully aware of. Still, there has been no recall issued, and no warning has been given to the owners (that there's a potential of an under-designed braking system on these vehicles. Apparently (my understanding -- you probably know better), Dodge knows that the brakes on this vehicle are too small (?). If that is the case, then there is a problem that could lead to an accident. I have had other cars in my life, and have never had both front & rear brake pads and rotors completely wear-out in less than 20k miles. Even if the manufacturer installed pads that were too soft, or to thin, there should be a warning given to the consumer -- if for no other reason that that the consumer not install the same pads as a repair. Moreover, after-market dealers, like midas, should be alerted -- because they continue to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for replacement pads. It is ridiculous to think that a company the size of Dodge would put at risk, the safety of the very consumers that keep their company solvent -- if they're willing to sacrifice our lives (and the lives of our families) simply to "save face," then who will be left to purchase their future products? from reports I've read, other people have literally spent thousands attempting to fix their Journeys. While I haven't spent as much as others, I should not have had to spend this type of money on a vehicle that's still under warranty.

21 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2011

Ineffective brakes on the Journey. They wear very quickly, shake the entire vehicle when stopping. I purchased the vehicle with 38,000 miles, now has 65,000 and I have put brake pads on the vehicle 3 times.

22 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2010

I had a complete brake failure and ran off the road, lost control and spun backwards striking a buried boulder bending my exhaust pipe, this was at 19k miles. Right front brake pads blew apart, towed into dealership, didn't work on it due to out of warranty and they stated it would be approx 1000 to fix it, took it to midas, spent 400, replaced front rotors and pads, at 23k miles, brakes worn down to metal, took to midas, said Dodge problem, Dodge would not work on it stating it was midas' issue. Got letter from Dodge to fix brakes after 100 deductible, they replaced front rotors and pads, 2 days(two days later) brakes failed and ran through hwy interchange and almost got side swiped by a big rig. Pucker factor +20, taken back to Dodge and spent all day there and they stated they turned rotors again on the back rotors but when I went around to the service bays, the front rotors and back rotors were off and they were replacing the brake pads again. This needs to stop and the only way Dodge will do anything about it is for someone to be killed, it's not going to be me. . . . . .

23 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2010

I purchased a 2009 Dodge Journey in oct 2008 just after 12000 miles I had to replace the front brakes and rotors(11-20-2009). At 21,100 the brakes starting pulsating again and was advised by the service department of the Dodge dealership to machine the front rotors since it was recently replaced (08-21-2010). At 23,700 miles I need to replace the rear rotors and pads need to replaces as well as the front rotors(11-06-2010).

24 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2010

Purchased vehicle (dealer demo) in March 2010 with 4,000 miles on it. Came with all (full) warranties. Has known brake issues with pads prematurely warping. First service was 11/5/10 at 19,600 miles front brakes redone paid $50 under warranty. Second service one week later 11/12/10 rear brakes redone at 20,107 miles. On July 2, 2011 at 35,455 miles replaced front brakes/pads again paid $155. 00 had brakes checked again on 10/1/11 and 8mm of material remaining on front and 7mm of material on rear. On 11/1/11 noticed warping on front (possible back too) and decided to file this claim before having them redone again. Obviously they cannot keep the pads from warping so I will be back multiple times each year to prevent further damage to rotors etc. I will not keep paying for this service it needs to be covered under warranty and zero dollars to me. Plan to bring it in on 11/25 or 11/26/11.

25 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2010

Dodge Journey serious brake problem, 2nd time in less than 32,000 pads and rotors are needing to be replaced. Dodge has acknowlded a problem and then did sent out reimbursement option, my first repair was paid for. However, the problem has not been solved with the vehicle, the same repair is requried again. A search on the internt indicates this is a rampant problem, a recall from Dodge has not been put in place, class action law suits exist. Mechanic at midas indicates many Dodge Journeys at his facitlity with the same problem.

26 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2010

Our Dodge Journey began having braking issues. A trip to the dealer revealed that at only 30,000 miles, the front brakes were basically non-functional. We needed to replace pads and rotors, which were far beyond machining, on the front and pads on the rear as well as having the rear rotors turned. This is unacceptable for a vehicle driven under normal circumstances with only 30, 000 miles.

27 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2010

Front brake pad failure @ 19,000 miles. Had to be replaced. Vehicle now has 26,000 miles and back brakes now have to be replaced. Front brakes are @ 95%. This shows that the original brake pads were defective or cheap.

28 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

I have a 2009 Dodge Journey. The brakes started to make a grumbling noise when I stepped on the brake. I had only 14,000 miles on the car. I took it to the dealer and they said it was the brakes and wanted me to pay for the repair. I took it to my mechanic because I didn't want the same Dodge brakes onit. We used bendix brake pads. I was ok until I hit approximately 21 k miles. The dealer then told me I need new rotors. I then took it to my mechanic and replaced the rotors with the holed aftermarket rotors because they stay cool and will not heat up. Within 300 miles after I replaced the rotors and shoes, the car started the same symptoms again. Shaking when the brakes are applied. Dodge should come out and recall the brakes on this crossover. My dealer told me that they use car brakes on this truck and they should have equipped it with truck brakes because it is too heavy. I bought this car with the expectation everyone has from a new car and I am very upset with Dodge. They never covered any of the brake system under warranty and I am pouring all this money on this car that I do not trust. Dodge should be sued for this car !!!!!.

29 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. While driving 5 mph she heard a rubbing noise. The contact stated when she reached her destination she removed the tire from the vehicle and noticed that the front rotors and brake pads were worn. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or a local mechanic. The failure and current mileages were 21,629.

30 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2010

The 2009 Dodge Journey brake pads and rotors wearout prematurely and create a safety hazard. I believe that the brakes are under-designed for the vehicle weight and should be redisgned and replaced under recall. I am a very conservative driver yet still have to replace the pads and rotors evry 20,000 to 24,000 miles.

31 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that he noticed a slight shimmy in the vehicle when applying the brakes. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility for an oil change when the technician informed the contact of premature wear of the brake pads and rotors. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was awaiting repairs. The manufacturer was not notified. The current and failure mileage was approximately 14,000.

32 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2010

Vehicle has poor brake performance. Front and rear brake pads worn out at 21,000 miles. Dealer replaced pads and turned rotors. Brakes have delay before slowing the vehicle (pre and post repair) and the vehicle requires a large distance to stop (greater than our previous suvs including Chrysler pacific, Dodge durango, Jeep grand cherokee, and Jeep liberty).

33 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2010

2009 Dodge Journey brake problems. Pads and rotors replaced on front @ 20k miles, rear pads replaced @35k miles. Dealer claims 'normal wear and tear'. Finally involved in an accident. Car did not brake appropriately and rear-ended another car. Safety concerns now over the engineering and design, perhaps the brakes are undersized for this car.

34 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2010

Pre-mature brake rotor warping and subsequent pad wear. 2009 Dodge Journey had all 4 rotors and all pads replaced at 14,000 miles at my expense. Now at 28,500 miles, I have the same problem again. Dodge/Chrysler will do anything about it.

35 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that he took his vehicle in for an oil change and the mechanic stated that the front pads and rotors needed to be replaced even though the vehicle only had 19,000 miles on it. Chrysler was contacted and stated that it was outside the 12 month wear and tear warranty period so the repairs would be at his expense. The vehicle was not repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure and current mileages were 19,000.
