36 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2010

I currently owe a 2009 Dodge Journey it has 27000 miles on it. I have had to replace the front brakes twice and rotors once and now I have to replace the rear pads and rotors because they are warped. I would not recommend that anyone buys this vehicle.

37 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2010

The brakes on 2009 Dodge Journey sxt need new pads at 14,000 miles. According to other reviews this is a common problems with this car. The brakes and rotors both front and back have to be replace every 14,000 to 15,000 miles and Chrysler will not take responsibility for the problem. Please make them recall the brakes and rotors as this is a safety issue. On edmuns. Com consumers are begging other Dodge Journey owners to file a complaint so this problem can be fixed.

38 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2010

I drive the Dodge Journey for 13 months from new. The car has now 32,500 miles on it. I had to replace brakes - pads and rotors three times. Recently I found out that the rear tires are also worn - the lower part of the inside wall on both tires is worn not evenly? the local dealer, supported by Dodge officials, claims this is normal wear and tear for this car, shirking the manufacturer's responsibility.

39 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2010

I owned a Dodge Journey 2009 and all of the sudden my brakes started to grind. It felt like I had no brake power and sounded like it was metal to metal. I took it immediately to our authorized Chrysler dealer and I was told I needed to replace front rotors and brake pads. I had purchased with this vehicle an extended warranty but was told rotors and pads were not covered even in case of premature wear : my car has only 22,000 miles. What is frustrating is that the brakes never squealed . How could I anticipated this ? the dealership is asking over $400 dollars to have the car repaired and based on what I am reading in this database, my brake problems might happen again very soon.

40 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2010

Vehicle brakes are too small/thin for this heavy of a vehicle. Pads constantly need replacing.

41 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2010

At 21,500 miles I was informed that my 2009 Dodge Journey r/t v6 needed new pads and rotors. I was further informed that this is normal. Upon researching the issue, I have learned that this appears to be common and likely a design flaw that may put myself and others at risk on the road.

42 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2010

Brakes and rotor issues on 2009 Dodge Journey, at 15,400 miles my brakes started grinding one day out of no where and the pads need to be replaced and rotors machined already. In looking at various sites this seems to be a prevalent problem with this vehicle.

43 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2010

I own a 2009 Dodge Journey and have had to replace the front brake pads and rotors twice and the rear pads and rotors once. The last replacement for the front brakes was on July 26th 2010 and I was informed today that they need replaced again, after only 11,000 miles. There are many other problems with this car like the paint peeling off, the tires waring badly and now they all 4 need replaced even though I have them balanced and rotated regularly. However, I feel the brake problem is not just my problem, but is also a safety issue for other drivers.

44 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2010

Brakes are bad on my 2009 Dodge Journey. All of a sudden the brakes started grinding. Took it to the dealership to find out that the front brakes mainly the left front was completely worn metal to metal. The car doesn't even have 20k miles on it. I haven't even had it a year. This should be under warranty but dealership says it is normal. Normal is 40-50k before brakes go bad or show signs of a needed replacement. The wear indicators on the pads didn't even sound, just one day metal to metal. There needs to be a recall, this is very dangerous for everyone who owns a Journey.

45 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. While driving 45 mph the contact applied the brakes and heard a squeaking sound in the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the contact was informed that the front rotors and pads needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. There were no prior warnings. The VIN was not available. The current and failure mileages were 21000.

46 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for a routine oil change. The technician inspected the rear brake pads and informed that the brake specs were 4 millimeters. The contact stated the failure occurrence was extremely early for the mileage on the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 17,000. The VIN was unavailable. Js.

47 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2010

Brake pads and roters replaced on my 2009 Dodge Journey at 19,000 miles after months of problems with braking and shaking in the steering column.

48 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

I purchased a 2009 Dodge Journey in April 2009. It is now July 2010 and 20,000 miles later I already have had to replace my front brake pads and the rotors needed to be replaced as well!! after calling Chrysler because this is way too early to be replacing them they simply stated that it was not under warranty and there was nothing they could do. I have noticed several complaints of the same nature on blogs and on here.

49 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2010

I was driving in January 2010 and crunching sound and shaking when brakes applied in my 2009 Dodge Journey, took it in they informed me I needed new brake pads at 25k miles. Got new pads for $300 kept driving, now vehicle shakes hard to stop and crunching sound again when attempting to stop (stopping can be difficult) now June-- took vehicle in again and again they stated front pads are 11/32 (in 4 months?) and rear pads are 1/32 almost metal to metal. Car's brakes appear to be way too small for vehicle size and it appears the pads wear very quickly (can find tons of same complaints in various review sites) Dodge always blames the drivers for "riding their brakes" but there are thousands of us. They estimate brake pads last 14-16k miles!!!! but I can tell even the front one being below half are now effecting the vehicles stopping ability. This is a safety issue they need bigger brakes for the vehicle. I am concerned that one day it will just fail as the brake pads wear so quickly.

50 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2010

This is a follow up e-mail to phone call. My comp# is 274123. My last name is spelled wrong and there are a few discrepancies. Also wanted to give an update. I own an 09 Dodge Journey in which I had to replace the front brake pads at 12,800 miles, just after warranty, replaced by midas in Dec. 09. At 19,800 I felt my steering wheel shake when I applied the brakes. Upon inspection I realized my rear brakes pads and rotors were shot. Being suspicious of this premature brake issues I googled "09 Dodge Journey brake problems" and found hundreds of the same exact complaint! premature brake failure. Hundreds of people who needed their pads and rotors replaced from 5k-22k sometimes even more than once! at the average expense of $360. 00. I also noted that there are numerous of the same complaints from Chrysler town & country and Dodge caravan owners. When I contacted the dealer I was told by their service clerk that the ceramic pads originally installed at the manufacturer are wearing prematurely and that they are being replaced by a totally different pad with "extended life". In most cases they are being replace in "good will"(free of charge). A service tech also confirmed this but told me he could not promise that this service would be free until further inspection. When we dropped the car off at the dealer our main complaint was the rear brakes and rotors. We asked (in writing )that they be replaced in "good will" and that they also inspect the front brakes an rotors because they were replaced at 12,800 with the same ceramic pads that are causing all the problems. The dealer called and said they would replace the front pads and cut the rotors free of charge but would not replace the rear pads and rotors. The tech said they were already doing enough "good will"repairs on the car and that if we wanted the rear brakes repaired it would cost us $370. I called Chrysler directly and got the same response. It's amazing! the front pads need to be replaced again after only 7k.

51 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

Bad brakes on 2009 Dodge Journey sxt. Had to replace front brakes at 22,700 miles and then replace the back brakes at 30,200 miles. That includes pads and rotors. Total cost $700.

52 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2010

This vehicle model has an obvious premature brake wear/failure problem. I replaced the front pads a year ago, very early in the life of the vehicle as compared to normal brake wear. I have now also had to replace the rear pads and have the rear rotors cut. I have been told that the front pads and rotors also have to be replaced due to excessive wear. The rotors are too thin and must be replaced. I drive mostly highway miles. I do not ride my brakes. I am a very conservative driver. Yet, I have had to spend about $700 for brakes within a year. And, all of that before a normal brake issue should occur on a vehicle. I have read many other complaints about this issue on the internet. And, there are already at least 2 class action lawsuits filed related to it - in CA and NJ. Please investigate and force Chrysler to fix the braking system on these vehicles.

53 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. While driving approximately between 50 and 55 mph on a mountain road, the brake pedal was applied and the vehicle began to vibrate severely with a squealing noise. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the front brake pads and rotors were replaced. The identical failures occurred on a separate occasion which involved the rear brake pads and rotors. The contact expressed concern of the premature brake wear at such low mileage. The vehicle was being taken to an authorized dealer for repair. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000. Updated 11/16/10.

54 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

Having a fairly new vehicle 2009 Dodge Journey I just needed to get new brake pads and rotors I can believe how bad the brake were at 25,000 miles.

55 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2010

I own a 2009 Dodge Journey, which I just loved up until this spring! I had begun to hear alot of dragging noises in the tire area and upon taking it for a tire rotation, I was told I needed to brakes. The car was barely a year old and yes, it did have about 25,000 miles on it. But, I had owned other cars in the past and didn't have to replace the brakes for atleast 3-4 years! I had to replace the pads & rotors at a fee of $500. It's been about 4 months later and again, the noises have returned! I can't afford to replace these items again. It's crazy! I now have to live with the concerns of will my car stop, will I cause an accident because the brakes go out not to mention the constant noise.

56 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2010

2009 Dodge Journey sxt awd. Front brake system. Had vibration in front end, dealership told me it was rust from being parked outside and that the technician had sanded it off. This did not correct the problem that I felt were warped rotors. I took a trip to mechanicsburg, about 350 miles from home, and upon return my brakes are "toast". Pads, rotors and who knows what else are all going to have to be replaced at a significant cost to me; more than $400. 00 (us) in this economy. I bought an american car to do my part for the economy. I think I am going to regret this purchase. I traded my 2001 Land Rover in for this.

57 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey sxt. The contact stated that without warning, the vehicle would not start. The exterior and interior lights work without any difficulties. The contact have to wait 30 minutes before the vehicle would start and over time it lost power and began to make a knocking sound. The brake pads and the rotors also began to wear excessively. The dealer was notified and stated that the vehicle needed a starter, brakes, brakes pads, rotors, battery, and struts. The dealers estimated repair cost was $2,000 at the contacts expense. The contact replaced the brakes, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and the front rotors for $738. 23. The manufacture was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.

58 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

I had to replace the front brakes pads at only 12,000 miles. This seemed wrong already. Then, I took my vehicle for the regular service and they said everything was fine. Just after 1000 miles I started to smell burned from the outside of the car, by the rear tires. I made an appointment with the dealership and I wasnt even able to get there that my car was smoking in the back. I had to change the pads and disks. The reason was that they were all rusted and they basically said that it was my fault!! a new car with only 20,000, not even 2 years old should not rust like that. And what about telling me that it was rusting when I took it for service?.

59 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2010

I purchased a 2009 Dodge Journey in July 2008. When I took the vehicle in for an oil change at 8000 miles, I was told the brakes pads would need to be changed soo. By 12,000 miles the brake pads were completely worn and had to be replaced. By 46000 miles the fron brake pads had been replaced 4 times and the rotors were serviced as well as the rear brakes being replaced twice and the rear rotors were replaced once. The warranty did not cover any of these repairs. On April 29 at approx 10:30 the brakes gave out completely. They did not engage at all which resulted in rear ending a charter bus on a busy street. There weren't even skid marks indicating that the brakes had been engaged at all. To top it off, when we tried to move the vehicle off the road, the brakes wouldn't even engage enough to allow the gear to be shifted out of park.

60 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2010

I purchased a 09 Dodge Journey in March 09. Had front brakes pads/rotors replaced at 9k miles, rear brake pads/rotors at 10k miles. I just took back in today for another set of front pads/rotors today at 25k miles. I have also contacted Chrysler regarding lemon law in state of TN. Upon investigation online found that numerous owners are having the same problems, can you please investigate this? I am happy with the car, just very nervous when driving with my 2 children in the car. I have owned numerous Chrysler/Dodge vehicles and never had a problem like this. In fact my problems began in July 09 and I have been trying to work with the dealership to get this corrected, I think someone else needs to step in and help the consumers!!.

61 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2010

My 2009 Dodge Journey r/t awd has just over 21,000 miles on the odometer. Recently, the brakes were acting worse than normal, so I took it in to a service center. I have learned that the pads and rotors are completely shot, making metal-to-metal contact. All will need replaced - at 21,000 miles! checking the internet, I have learned that this is a common problem with the Dodge Journey. Numerous owners have had to have completely new brakes installed with less than 23,000 miles on their cars. The factory warranty only covers brake problems for 12 months / 12,000 miles. There is clearly a design problem with the brakes on this vehicle line.

62 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2010

At 15,000 miles on my 09 Dodge Journey, the front brake pads are gone and the front routers warped. The back pads are fine but the back routers are warped. I was told by the dealership this is "normal wear". I have owned numerous new cars and this is not normal. Dealership is unwilling to correct this problem.

63 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2010

At 8234 miles I took my 2009 Dodge Journey awd to the dealership with slight pulsation while braking and the dealership resurfaced the front rotors. At 11156 the car went in for brake issues and the dealership replaced the front brake pads. At 11574 the car went in once again for brake vibration and the dealership replaced both front rotors. At 16049 the replaced rotors were resurfaced. At 17669 again for brake vibration but the dealership could not duplicate problem. At 20554 the front rotors were replaced once again. At 23669 the 2nd set of rotors were resurfaced. At 24944 the rotors again were replaced for the 3rd time. Now it seems to me this might be a defect on the brakes, but according to the district manager at Chrysler it is my driving that is causing the brakes to get bad. I have been lucky that Dodge has not charged me up until this week. Dodge will no longer repair the brakes because according to the district manager "it is not the car, but my driving". I currently have 25k miles and have gone through 3 sets of rotors (and still vibrates) and believe me I do not ride the brakes as they claim.

64 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2010

Brake pads and rotors. Brake pads wear away way premature and rotors also wear to fast.

65 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2010

I purchased a 2009 Dodge Journey, in may of 2009. By March 22, 2010, the brakes were completely gone. The pads were metal to metal and the rotors were completely shot. The vehicle had 22,200 miles on it. I have a 3 year and 36,000 mile warranty which don jackson is trying not to honor.

66 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2010

2009 Dodge Journey r/t have replaced front pads 3 times, have replaced rotors and had rotors resurfaced. Rear brakes pads and rotors replaced. Vehicle will shake at highway speed and when attempting to stop. Sometimes when attempting to stop brakes will grind and have difficulty stopping. Service manager at dealership has told me the vehicle is not safe, however, have yet to receive assistance to remedy ongoing situation regarding braking system and components.

67 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2010

Dodge Journey 2009. We had to replace the front pads with 21k miles and front rotors had to be turned twice to get them even. Now with 27k the front rotors need to be replaced and the pads in the rear need to be replaced, as well. This must be a manufacturer problem. (do customers always need to wait until someone dies -- Toyota!!).

68 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2010

Bought my Journey in March of 2009. In Feb of 2010 my brakes were squeeking so I had them checked and it was found I needed pads and rotors replaced on back. 3 months later the front rotors and pads needed replaced. 6 months later the back rotors needed replaced again along with pads. 8 months later the fronts needed rotors again and the back needed pads. This is just crazy how many times I have been to the mechanic. Most of my drive is highway so there is no explaination other than there has to be a serious defect. I love my Journey but will never purchase a Chrysler vehicle again.

69 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact was braking from approximately 40 mph when the brake pedal began pulsating abnormally. The steering wheel also began to shake and vibrate. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The front brake pads were replaced and the front and rear rotors were resurfaced. The identical failure recurred after the repair. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the front rotors were being replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000. Updated 2/28/11 the brakes and rotors were replaced twice. Updated 04/29/11.

70 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while braking at 55 mph, the steering wheel shook. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where the brake pads and rotors were replaced. The failure occurred at least four times and each time the dealer had to replace the rotors and brake pads. Also, the engine would take at least a couple of minutes before starting. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the contact should notified NHTSA. They offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 18,115 and the current mileage was 47,000. The consumer was informed, the vehicle had a history of premature wear of the brake pads and rotors due to them being too small and thin to handle the braking duties required by the size and weight of the vehicle. Updated 08/13/12.
