We bought the Dodge Journey in Dec 2012 3 weeks or so later I returned to dealership with a clicking sound when I moved the steering wheel that the front end was shaking and that there was a load roar long story short every 6 months rotors brakes tires are having to be replaced and I guess what really set things more in motion was Jan 21 2014 while traveling down the interstate to take a sick child to the dr the left front tire valve steam blew out my husband got the car off the road only to jack it up to change tire when the weight of the vehicle bent the jack causing it to fall almost on my husbands foot, we bought this car because it was a v6 and had the room we need to travel to dr appts with our special needs child because we have to travel so far I have had nothing but trouble the dealership after a fight agreed to put new brakes the machined the rotors and said the steering was a Dodge thing nothing to worry about only the load clicking when pulling in or out of a parking space and the roar in the front they claim is the raos and they also at this time put 4 new tires on the car now mind you this was all done 7/6/13 and they done all of this when they purchased the car in 11/20/12 and when I go back in to the car fax every 6 months the breaks rotors and tires have to be replaced. Now here it is 6 months later for us and blow out also we just changes the rotors and brakes on the 11 of this month so see the 6 month deal with this car and when searching other complaints I am finding the same problem I have contacted Chrysler and they say call my dealership I informed [xxx] at Chrysler it was not the dealerships problem they didn't make the car. It is a death trap there are so many more issues with this car but the deadly ones are the tires blowing out the brakes crumbling and the rotors wearing out with in 6 months thank u and I so hope that someone can help us. The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the brakes and rotors were abnormally worn. The contact replaced the brakes and rotors, but the failure recurred in less than a year after the repairs were performed. The contact also stated that the vehicle jerked forward intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 78,000.
Electrical systems don't work all the time such as radio. Burning smell. Seat belt stopped working last year had to replace entire unit. Pto went out 8 months after 6 months purchase.
The brakes and rotors have needed to have work several times and needs to be taken in for the same thing about every 2-4 months. This is a manufacturer defect per the manufacturer.
I am filing this complaint about my 2009 Dodge Journey sxt awd and its braking system. Since I have purchased the car new I have had to change the brakes three times. The car now has just under 50,000 miles. That is almost one brake job each year. The braking system for this vehicle is not adequate. This can pose a possible safety risk because the rotors can warp and cause loss of control of the vehicle in any braking situations.
Since I brought my Journey I had to get my brakes replaced several time & rotors replace, transmission sealant leak and recently when I was driving to work my tire pressure light came on and within minutes my tire was almost flat. I was able to just make it to a gas station and went to fill up my tire and my valve stem went all the way in and my tire went totally flat and lost all pressure. My car had to be towed and ended up spending $300 to get my front passenger and rear passenger side valve stems replaced. The service guy agreed that it was unsafe and I could of easily spun out if I lost all tire pressure right away. I have 2 kids and I feel unsafe to drive with my children in the car. On top of these issues my steering wheel continue to shake but I had it in to the service department a number of times and they said everything is ok. One of the instances they said the shaking was because of my routers and resurfaced them twice. Please help me. I don't know of my options but I am concerned for me and my family's safety with this car. Sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Engine fails to start. When I turn on the key nothing happens. After several turn of the keys finally there is ignition. Last night as my wife was driving home the car dies out and she lost hydralics, so the brakes didn't work and she is lucky that she did not crash and kill herself or someone else. I have had the car in for calliper and brake replacement for both the front 22,000 miles and rear 28,000. The ignition starting problem 3 times.
1/10/11 brought vehicle in for standard olf change and tire rotation (mileage: 18,399). San diego rancho dealership advised front brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. I diligently researched brake problems on 2009 Journey and filed a complaint with Chrysler corporate. Paid $50. 00 deductible for front brakes. 5/12/12 brought vehicle in for standard olf change and tire rotation (mileage 27,154) again, san diego ranch dealership advised rear brakes pad needed to be replaced as well as turning the rotors - quote given of $305. 00. Did my diligent research and will contact Chrysler for resolution. Corporate is aware of the faulty design in this model. Noted on complaint dated 3/21/12 (redford, mi) corporate authorized rear brake replacement for deductible cost of $100. 00 (corporate phone to file complain - 800-992-1997.
Electrical system failure due to wiring harness melting, radiator cracked because bracket for ac is connected too tight when car is manufactured, battery died prematurely because of failed wires, rotors warped causing car to shake violently when braking. All these problems and others for a car with only 60,000 miles. Have spent over $2000 to date in repairs that numerous people have had related to this vehicle. Based on online complaints and talking to mechanics who have worked on this car no one can believe that the correct electrical recall has taken place. There have been electrical recalls on vehicle, but not for most common failure. No one understands why brake issue has not been recalled and no one understands why the radiators keep failing without a recall. Will it take a serious crash? safety of the consumer is at risk. You pay $20,000 for a car and think it will last awhile. This car has major problems that are consistent from buyer to buyer.
I was driving and the low tire pressure indicator came on. I pulled over to a parking lot and proceeded to add air to the tire using an air pump. After filling the tire with air and attempting to dislodge the air pump hose. The end of the tire stem broke off inside of the tire pressure gauge causing the tire to deflate completely. I noticed that the tire stem looked corroded, and I immediately googled the problem with this tire stem and learned that there are numerous complaints where the tire stems on the vehicle corrode (which mine did exactly) and then break off while most are driving. In addition to this problem the vehicle antifreeze reservoir's crack causing the antifreeze to leak out on a constant basis. This too is a item which should have been recalled long ago. Thank you so much for your time and consideration into these reported by un-noted defects in this vehicle.
We bought this car used in 2011. We had an inspection done of the brakes by the dealership we bought from and were informed the brakes were in good shape. We have taken the vehicle to the local Dodge dealership for regular preventive maintenance and they have told us the brakes are in good shape also. The last visit they told us the front brakes were completely gone. This after just 4000 miles. The electrical system is also failing. The vehicle at times just won't start or other times will shut done. We feel this vehicle is an accident waiting to happen and feel we have a lemon with no course of action and still 5years of payments.
The brakes made a squeling nose they replaced brakes under warrenty.
2009 Dodge Journey. Consumer writes in regards to issues with vehicle brakes the consumer stated the dealer replaced the front brakes. Then at 29,000 miles the rear brakes were replaced due to excessive squealing.
When brakes are applied, the steering wheel shakes so bad that I am afraid of losing control of the vehicle. No one else wants to drive it and I only dare to drive it back and forth to work which is less than 7 miles and speed limits do not exceed 35 mph. I have had brakes replaced twice since I bought it in 2011 and now it needs them again. I had to replace all 4 tires with less than 20,000 miles on them. Cost was over $1300. 00. What can I do with this lemon? also, when it rains, the driver's side rear door fills with water.
Upon taking an exit ramp from the freeway I removed my foot from the gas pedal and placed it on the brake pedal. The traction control light came on and I immediately lost power, then I noticed the electronic throttle control light was flashing too. After sluggishly lurching my way to the side of the road I read that the manual said to place the vehicle in park and cycle the ignition. Upon doing this the lights went off and the vehicle appeared to function normally. Then, it did it again the next day under very similar circumstances, I removed my foot from the accelerator and applied the brake and both lights came on with a total loss of power and some lugging to the side of the road. If a semi had been behind us, there is no way he could have stopped soon enough to avoid a collision. I find numerous complaints about the etc on the internet, but nobody taking action. Does someone have to file a lawsuit first? because I will. . . . .
The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact was driving 20 mph when the vehicle began to loose power abnormally. The brakes and power steering assist became inoperable, but the vehicle did not stall. In addition, the contact stated that the brakes were continuously wearing prematurely and had been replaced four times within a four year period. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The failure mileage was 63,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. While driving approximately 10 mph, the contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the brakes. The dealer replaced the brakes, but the failure recurred after the vehicle was driven 11,000 miles. The brakes were replaced again, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
The center for auto safety issued a release in Aug. 2011 regarding brake problems with 2009 Dodge Journeys. I had brake problems in Nov. 2011. I contacted the bob frensley Chrysler dealership to inquire about brake warranty and was not told anything about the problems with 2009 Dodge Journey brakes. The release in Aug. 2011 says Chrysler had worked out a deductible plan where any brake work on Dodge Journey with mileage between 24,000 and 36,000 would not cost the customer more than a $100 deductible. I was not informed of this when I called the dealership and decided to get the brake work completed at budget brakes closer to my residence. I feel I should have been informed of this deductible program Chrysler had implemented according to the center for auto safety release.
The breaks/rotors going out faster than they should. Cant really even get 3000 miles out of them.
Car won't start at random intervals. Will not make any noise, just a click. Started roughly a year ago, after a few minutes it would start again. Now I wait more than a half hour. Never sure if it will start. This car is stranding me. It has a list of problems such as bad brakes that have been fixed multiple times and other electrical issues.
I purchased a 2009 Dodge Journey (VIN: [xxx]) on September 19, 2011 from the stetler Dodge car dealership in york, PA. It was a certified pre-owned car. Since that day I bought the car I have been back there over 4 times for various problems. The first time was about 2 weeks after I purchased the car (10/3/11), but this last time was it for me. The car makes a hissing noise when I press the brakes, not all of the times but a lot. During the winter months, I hadn't noticed anything else occurring along with the noise, but I had still taken it back to the dealership not long after I bought the car. I was told that it was nothing because they couldn't hear the sound. So, when it got very hot, I turned the air conditioner on in the car. I noticed that if I take a long trip, about an hour or so drive on the highway, a fume/gas smell is released into the car when the air it on. I took it to the dealership on 7/10/12 for this issue. They couldn't get the smell to occur, but I told them that it happened after I took long trips. There is also a grinding/humming noise that occurs sometimes while driving and it happened twice when they were driving it with me in the car, but they don't know what the problem is they say. I was told to bring it back if the problem got worse, even though I had already told them it was already getting worse, that's why I took it in. The steering wheel shakes when I press the brakes. The brakes and rotors are not good. The gear shift moves easily without the brake being pressed so it will go into park while driving. The car finally stalled while driving on July 25, 2012. It's in the shop again. They say a box or case is leaking badly and needs to be replaced. Countless other problems but not enough character space allotted to tell. I have 3 pages of problems. Scared to drive this car. Want my money back now. Help! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Front brakes have been replaced twice so far. Told by dealer they were replaced at 19000 with original type that had problems because they were told to. Had those replaced at 29000 when steering became wobbly as brakes applied. Asked if I was getting 10000 mile brakes again and was told they put on what they are told by manufacturer.
Bought the vehicle used from a Toyota dealer ,the brakes were polsating from warped rotors ,had a brake job done and now the brakes are sqilling, /and now the second thing the vehicle hesitates to start, you have to keep turning the key on and off to get it to start ,when you try to start it it just clicks one time ,if were a bad connection on the batt. It would click as long as you helt the key to the start position . Not happy with this vehicle at all but I. M stuck with the payments so I have to live with it . . .
Brakes need replacement after only 15000 normal miles.
I was driving my 2009 Dodge Journey today, 9/10/11 and all of a sudden it started to lose power. It began to shake as if it were trembling underneath the vehicle. The Journey was in drive and started to go backwards. I pressed the accelerator with my foot and it went straight to the floor. The gear shift was in drive and the car continued to go backwards with the gear shift in drive. I was very frantic and then began to press the brake pedal with my foot. The Journey would not stop. The brake pedal went straight to the floor as the car continued to go backwards. I quickly pressed the emergency brake with my left foot and the car stopped suddenly and shut off while the gear was still in drive. I put the gear back in the park position and tried to start the car but it would not crank. I made a report to Dodge by calling (800) 992-1992 on Sunday September 11, 2011. I received a reference case number: 21334169. I received a call from Dodge from (800) 763-8433 on Monday September 12, 2011 from case managers britt (ext. 66208) and keith (ext. 66194). I returned their calls but never had the opportunity to speak with them. They were not available. I left multiple messages for them both and spoke with various people at the call center; neither case manager never returned my calls and I was informed from different representatives at the call center that both britt and keith declined any service to my vehicle due to the high mileage and it being out of warranty. The electrical problem is a manufactured defect with the 2009 Journey and has been recognized nationwide by other vehicle owners.
Received a letter from Dodge a few weeks back which referenced possible brake problems on the 2009 Dodge Journey we purchased new in 2009. Our daughter is a college student and has only put on 22,000 miles over the past two years. An appt has been made with a local dealership, but when I drove it for the first time today, I could not believe the metal-on-metal sound that emitted from the front brakes. The brake pedal had to be pushed down with force to achieve a total stop. We have never had a vehicle that required any type brake repairs after such a short period of time and I totally resent the fact that there is anywhere from a $50 to $100 deductible for something that should be covered by Dodge. These brakes sound like there is absolutely nothing left. The sound even remained for a while even after I took my foot off the brake pedal. Why must the consumer pay for shoddy, poor quality parts?.
I was driving there was a loud pop, I didn't know what it was until I tried to stop. I barely had any brakes the brake pad had broken so I had to have brakes put on it. I had just purchased the vehicle already having to put brakes on at 33000 miles I thought something may be wrong but didn't know for sure. Ever since then I have to put brakes every 3000 miles and rotors too some times. Something needs to be done about this before someone gets hurt or killed, I know there have been several complaints about them.
My vehicle has less than 90000 miles and I've put 4 sets of brakes and rotors on it. I've also had numerous problems with it not wanting to start while the battery test out perfect. I have put 3 sets of tires on it, and the transmission is shifting hard a lot of the time also. It's a shame people have to die before y'all recall vehicles.
2009 Dodge Journey sxt - brakes and rotors - had to replace brakes at 37,000 miles and was told rotors also needed to be replaced. Should have lasted longer then they did - last week 6-11 received notice from Chrysler -Dodge that if owner had to replace prior to 36,000 miles they would replace at their expense less $100. 00 deductible. Wouldn't touch my claim since my brakes were replaced at my cost at 37,000 miles. If the rotors and brakes were not right when this vehicle was made, I feel that Chrysler-Dodge should have to pick up the cost in full or extend the milage on this problem so their customers can say they have safe vehicles. Since brakes and rotor's are a vital issue of a an automobile this should be addressed. I am still driving with bad rotors and couldn't get any help from the dealer or Chrysler-Dodge complaint department or customer service.
Dodge gave me an extend warranty on this car to 36,000 miles. Started having brake problems and had them fixed at a shop before the 36,000 mile warranty was up. Then after fixing the brakes noticed a shake in the front end. Took it back to the shop at 36,400 miles and they then told me about the problems with the Journey. I called the dealer who completely blew it off. I have paid for the repair and was told to submit a claim to Chrysler which I did and it was turned down. This is just not right!.
I had to have my brakes and rotors replaced. Having brakes replaced on other cars I have had, this sounds silly. I am not a stupid woman. I know something is wrong if you have brakes and rotors replaced this early. This car is my last Dodge!!!.
All four brakes on my 2009 Dodge Journey have failed after only 25,000 miles. Brake parts have broken and the front two brakes are considered under warranty but the back brakes are not under warranty. The dealership stated the car was unsafe to drive until the brakes were fixed. Donavan Dodge in sierra vista arizona has repaired the brakes but the dealership is not taking any responsibilty for failure of equipment for the back brakes. This type of failure placed me and any passengers in danger. I requested the broken parts for the brake equipment that was not under warranty. They have to send the ones under warranty back to the Dodge corporation.
2009 Dodge Journey brake, and tire issue. Took a trip from des moines, IA. To shreveport, la. - halfway thru my trip home my rear passenger tire blew out of nowhere. With only 18,000 miles on the car I found that surprising especially since I was traveling at 75 mph, and had three kids in the car!!!! took the car to the nearest tire store who called a Dodge dealer. The Dodge dealer said that my tire was backordered by over 3,000 tires and recommended a different size. Spent the night in that town, new tires were put on the following day, drove back to des moines to my Dodge dealer here and I informed them of the terrible shaking my steering wheel had throughout the entire trip. They said it was my breaks and rotors and charged me for the service - after only 18,000 miles!!! I picked up my car today from this dealer and there is still shaking, and now a scent of exhaust in the car. I am afraid to drive this car with my family in it, and want to know if I have any recourse at all. . .
Rotor/brake problem. Serious vibration when brakes are applied. Problem is worse when vehicle has been driving for a while or after being in stop/go traffic.
