1 Power Train problem of the 2014 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 08/02/2025

Viscous unit for awd Dodge Journeys has been failing causing a clunking and chunking noise. Causing the car jerk on takeoff or on turns. From what others been having issues with is the same thing. Causing a risk of a crash of the rear differential cracking and breaking free from the car. I had to replace the rear axle bdorc/viscous unit on my car already, again from what I read from other owners, they have been having the same issue. And some are worse than others. I fear that it may cause danger to the occupants inside the car and around.

2 Power Train problem of the 2020 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 07/30/2025

The car has 40k miles on it with the extended power train warranty. On [xxx], I drove into phoenix, az 35 minute drive from my home in buckeye, az. As I turned down a road, I heard a "klink" and the engine only reved in both drive and reverse. I turned off the car and pushed it to a nearby parking lot. I was able to call my insurance company and have it towed to larry h. Miller avondale Dodge. I awaited for the service advisor to call me and when mark did call, it was to inform me the computer could not read my car due to the abs module possibly malfunctioned and this is causing the computer to not read my transmission sensors. I was then told the abs module is discontinued and cannot be found. Due to this, I was told labor and programming would be roughly $696, however the price for the module is uncertain. It has now been 2 weeks without a vehicle that has a discontinued part. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

6 Power Train problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 02/18/2025

To whom it may concern: my 2016 Dodge Journey crossroad awd (3. 6l) is currently experiencing "p0944 loss of hydraulic pump prime" (see attached diagnostic report, vehicle_record_report. Pdf from a local auto repair shop) the car was assembled in November 2015. The assembly date falls within the date range specified in the attached safety recall report for s44 / NHTSA 16v-461. (attached is copy, rcrit-16v461-1293. Pdf). However, the VIN number for my vehicle doesn't show up when searched. Given the type of transmission problem we're experiencing, the assembly month/year, the engine too, can someone be assigned to investigate if my vehicle should be included in the recall? it has the symptoms and details to indicate that it might. Also, I did open a case with fca, case #[xxx]. They informed us that if the VIN doesn't show up, there is no recall. We asked if they could verify the transmission model to rule out the recall possibility. They wouldn't. They suggested that we take it to a dealer for a diagnostic. However, we'd prefer another third party to review it first. Is there a recommend, recognized third party that can verify if it is or isn't the sr-44 recall issue causing the problem? this vehicle is needed for our family. Can someone be assigned to look into this for us? thank you so much. Regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

10 Power Train problem of the 2015 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 12/01/2024

Vehicle has oil cooler leak which plastic oil filter casing and oil cooler adapter cracked and leaked. Oil pooled up on top of engine casing channel below intake plenum and dripped down to electrical connectors that go into transmission. Engine oil heated and smoked because of heated motor and smoke goes into vehicle cabin causing oil smoke film inside with occupants. Oil mist is in the inside windshield and outside windshield along with wipers. There is a recall for this year Journey 2015 this year engine 3. 6 vet and transmission combination fwd 6spd ;however, the VIN number is not applying to correct the oil cooler and filter replacement under a recall. There is an upgraded part made that does not fail s44 recall; however I had to pay full price for the repair at a dealership and they replaced with the upgraded recalled part. The recall for this repair is s 44 why was not my VIN and vehicle covered under this recall number? please include my VIN number in this recall as well since everything is the same for s44.

11 Power Train problem of the 2015 Dodge Journey

During the failure, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic dealer, who diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The power steering fluid hose was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 95,000.

12 Power Train problem of the 2017 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 10/29/2024

I’ve had to replace the thermostat 4 times in 6 months, pto was just repaired and now it fails to accelerate past 2000 rpm, transmission is clunking when shifting. I just got my car back from the Chrysler dealership.

13 Power Train problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 10/24/2024

While driving the car, car stalled and began displaying the lightning bolt icon on the cluster. The power steering stopped working and the brake was very stiff and hard to depress. I pulled off the road and waited a few minutes and started the car again. The idle was very rough, icon was still displayed on the cluster, and car began jerking and stalled again. I had the vehicle towed to the house and began looking into the issue. Error codes read on the car was p0365: camshaft position sensor “b” circuit, and the red lightning bolt indicating an issue with the electronic throttle body. The battery was taken out and tested bad so it was replaced. The throttle body was cleaned and tested good. When I tried to start the car after the codes were cleared, the vehicle attempted to start but wasn't able to turn over fully. The p0365 code returned. I then had a mechanic come check out the car to see if he could do anything to help. He determined that the valves in the engine were bent and the cars timing was off. With all of this being said, this issue I am complaining about is the p0365 camshaft sensor code. There was a recall for the camshaft sensors in some 2016 Dodge Journeys but my VIN did not fall in that range. When I called fca, I was told there was nothing to be done because my VIN wasn't included in the recall. A bad camshaft sensor would cause all of the issues that I am experiencing with the car. If the sensor is bad or doesn't perform as it should, it could effect the overall timing of the engine's firing sequence, causing stalling, failure to start, and damage to the engine, like in my case with the bent valves. This incident posed a severe safety risk to myself and the other drivers around me due to the loss of power steering and partial loss of braking ability. Luckily this incident did not occur on the interstate or major highway, where there are speeds in excess of 55 mph.

14 Power Train problem of the 2020 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 10/19/2024

Heater hose malfunction. No issues spotted but within 24 hours the car began to smoke and the hose obtained a leak and leak anti freeze while driving the entire hose blew up while car was in motion and came to a complete overheated stall in the middle of a busy intersection. I had to throw hazards on and could not exit the vehicle due to heavy traffic and unsafe conditions. No warning lights for a leak or empty reservoir where coolant goes. At blow up the antifreeze flushed to the engine and all oil flushed to the radiator cause an immediate engine block. No recalls for this hose but plenty of research on the hose needing to be removed and replaced with the previous version shaped as a letter y. Purchased this vehicle brand new 3 years ago only 12 miles kept up with oil changes and new tires only issue I've ever had kept up with annual flushes and maintenance as well. This part could have cost me my life in that intersection and central dispatch had to be called to stop traffic vehicle towed for $230 and repairs over $10,000 for a new engine. Now being charged $22,000 the remaining balance on the vehicle for damages beyond my control that should have been a recall.

15 Power Train problem of the 2015 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 10/10/2024

Vehicle has p0740 code of which is a recall on the transmission pump. The recall is s 44 however my VIN does not apply even though it’s the same make, model, year, engine and drivetrain as the recall. Please include my VIN number in the recall because the vehicle stalls/ hesitate when the gas pedal is applied and the transmission is trying to downshift when speeding up to change lanes. The situation is dangerous because the driver can lose control of the vehicle when planning to execute and not get a response from the vehicle when accelerating or changing lanes. The problem is more of a 2 to 3 second hiccup and the vehicle seems confused. Include this vehicle and my VIN number in the s 44 recall of which my dealership has stated it should’ve been included with the rest of the 2015 and 2016 caravan, Dodge Journey recalls. Chrysler (fca us llc) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Chrysler town & country, Dodge grand caravan vehicles manufactured July 31, 2015, to April 18, 2016, 2016 Dodge Journey vehicles manufactured August 17, 2015, to January 29, 2016, and 2016 ram promaster vehicles manufactured August 15, 2016, to April 15, 2016. The transmission pump may seize causing a loss of hydraulic pressure.

18 Power Train problem of the 2012 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 08/01/2024

We've owned this vehiclenot even 4 years. It had an engine recall that it was part of. It says it was repaired, however it never recieved a new engine. Now I just spent $9,000+ to replace the entire engine because of the exact issue of the recall: metal fragments in the engine. Why did I pay for this recall problem? did Dodge replace the engine during the recall? paperwork says no, but shows it was "repaired". If it was replaced, why did I replace it again for the exact same issue? Dodge has financially ruined our family. Besides this $9k we've spent $6k on engine work before the new engine, $4,500 on transmission work (with more to come as we're currently experiencing transmission issues) and $6k + on all kinds of issues that has never occurred on any vehicles I have owned in the last 30 years. And we've spent all this in under 4 years. This is unacceptable! for an american auto maker to produce and sell vehicles like this. This is why we people buy foreign. This Dodge is not a well built, trustworthy and dependable car. You won't believe how many times we've had to miss school and work because the car was broken down or being repaired. Our Honda civic was 20 years old, ran better and was 100% dependable. I never had to replace the engine, do any transmission work or have had half the problems with my civic than I have had and currently have with this "american" car that is only 11 years old. As a 1 income family with 2 kids in college and one still in high school, this is completely devastating to us. Trying to save money and get ahead and all of it has been spent fixing this vehicle. Dodge has completely devastated our family. How can an american auto maker be allowed to get away with producing vehicles like this? why should I have to go bankrupt owning a Dodge? why won't they accept responsibility for their defective product? I've spent $25,000 fixing this Dodge in 4 years. I can't afford to fix it or buy a new car. We're ruined.

19 Power Train problem of the 2017 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 07/01/2024

So on 7/1/24 our vehicle started overheating some. And then we had the check engine light to come on along with another light that looks like a lightning bolt inside an inside out parenthesis. So I research the symbol and it came back as an issue with the electric throttle control which is also means there is a problem with the electric parking brake. And then a mesage came on that said oil temp high speed may be limited. And then it started smoking really bad under the hood. So I researched some more and found out back in 2018 there was a recall on the same issue that was completed on September 23rd 2018.

20 Power Train problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 06/03/2024

The car kept stalling while driving. We had it for 2 weeks and all the sencers went bad and it over heated. Had to leave it on the side of the road and it got towed by highway patrol. Also rewend the battery. Now we are stuck without a ride. I looked up the recalls it said they were repaired but I don't think that's true.

21 Power Train problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 05/03/2024

Transmission pump has failed at only 98,000 miles. I was stopped at a stop light and the vehicle would no longer move. I restarted it, and it allowed me to continue driving, but once I stopped again at a stop light it wouldn’t move. This endangers me and the cars around me since the vehicle doesn’t move out of the road. We had the vehicle towed and the mechanic confirmed that it was the transmission pump. There may have been one warning sign weeks ago, but I thought it was due to water in the gas line which happens often. The warning signs were not significant to what happened with the car not moving.

22 Power Train problem of the 2015 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 04/25/2024

The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while attempting to reverse at low speeds in a parking area, the vehicle lost significant motive power. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 16v461000 (power train), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 72,000.

23 Power Train problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

24 Power Train problem of the 2014 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 04/04/2024

When trying to start the car in the past every now in then I would get a one click and no start I tried to shift into neutral and nothing the same , I played with the button by turning g off and back on a few time and it would start and it started to get harder to get it to start and now it will only click and no start , I replaced the battery and starter was checked out and is good all battery ends are new and new battery cables , I know google is no auto mechanic but the post I have read there is a lot of Dodge Journeys that has this issue when I called Dodge I was told to bring it in and I will be charged , also about every 4th time I hit the door locks from the door as soon as the door shuts the horn beeps 3 times and all the doors unlock , need help please from what I am understanding it's something to do with the anti theft or the neutral safety switch inside the transmission ,.

26 Power Train problem of the 2017 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 01/15/2024

The contact owns a 2017 Dodge Journey. The contact stated while driving at approximately 5 mph, the service awd, abs, and cruise control warning lights remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the same independent mechanic for the failure; however, the cause of the failure was unknown. The vehicle was not repaired because a permanent remedy had not been determined, and several unknown parts were unavailable. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

27 Power Train problem of the 2017 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 12/27/2023

I bought my 2017 Dodge Journey in September 2021, as I was driving home I noticed an issue with acceleration. I would have my foot on the throttle and the vehicle would seemingly convulse, like accelerate then bow down and repeat. I brought it back to the dealership and they kept it for a week and returned my vehicle stating they couldn't figure out the issue. To this day it still does the same thing! its so dangerous especially when pulling out from a stop sign or a highway into flowing traffic. Sometimes my car will accelerate great! mostly its slow and harsh when im on the throttle. Only stops when I release the gas petal or floor it. . . Not safe the dealership.

28 Power Train problem of the 2013 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 09/22/2023

My 2013 Dodge Journey is just one of thousands of Dodge/Chrysler/gm vehicles to have transmission failures with this type of engine (3. 6l v6) and transmission (62te). These transmission units are exorbitantly expensive and fail time and again paired with these engines on vehicles such as caravan, town & country, 200, avenger, Journey. This was a serious misstep and miscalculation by these companies, and they are costing their customers thousands upon thousands of dollars. Dodge and Chrysler (now stellantis) should be held accountable, especially since they are now a conglomerate of the most consistently unreliable vehicles (Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, ram, fiat).

29 Power Train problem of the 2015 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 09/11/2023

The check engine light stays on and code po740 torque converter clutch circuit open, and the stated fix is replace converter solenoid and trans fluid and filter. Also recommends do not drive. I am qualified to make repairs and did so, cleared codes drove approx. 100 miles light returned on solid. I did research and found a recall id 16v461000 that may not have traveled through the recall system yet. I spoke to a Dodge service advisor and was told that is was common and they have replaced several transmission so far this year. Part are scarce to get and approx. $7k repair. And no recall was issued for the problem. It is my understanding that the car can loose power and no longer move as the problem progresses in traffic and on highway, poss causing an accident. All related parts that fluid travels musts be replaced including trans. Oil cooler due to contamination.

30 Power Train problem of the 2017 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 09/06/2023

Transmission oil pump is faulty. It was recalled on the previous years.

31 Power Train problem of the 2015 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 08/06/2023

When putting the vehicle into park it either shifts rite into park, shows -- on the dash, says r and it's in p for example my husband drove my car put it in the park or so he thought turned the car off and came in the house we all left a little while later I get in my car and it won't start and I look at my dash and it says vehicle not in park and it was clearly in park, went to a friend's house put it in park put my foot off the brake and it started rolling backwards look up at my dash and it's in reverse even though it is in park had to put it in neutral put my emergency brake on and turn it off use the little lever inside the center console to manually shift it into gear.

32 Power Train problem of the 2015 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 08/01/2023

P0868 low pressure. Current recall needs expanded years. 2014 manufactured date is effected as well. Many things already replaced leading back to faulty pump. Viscous coupler also malfunctions in these at low milage. Flex plate fractures.

33 Power Train problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 07/20/2023

In regards to the recall s89 that has not been issued for my 2016 Dodge Journey - the crankshaft sensor has been replaced 3 times. While traveling on the highway, at highway speeds the vehicle will just die with little to no warning. Most recently 7/20/2023 - this is the 3rd time this has occurred.

34 Power Train problem of the 2012 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 07/10/2023

The electrical is so messed up the battery drains within hours, I have shorts in all aspects of this car(bluetooth, navigation, clicking relays nonstop, heat goes out intermittently, power switches on doors. I saw my headlights surging in power in the middle of nowhere, they would get bright, then go dim, then a battery icon illuminated on my dashboard before my car downshifted so hard I almost lost control of the car. The dealer replaced my motor mounts and my alternator, after calling to say my battery is bad and then turned around and said it wasn’t. Not to mention my brakes locked up in a little rain and I couldn’t stop crashing through a wall. Replaced my rear light turning bulb and it exploded with fire when I went to change it. The suspension is horrible and I am pretty sure my cv axles are all broken. Everything keeps breaking. Lifter taps intermittently, rough idling and hard shifting. Key fob doesn’t start car or is recognized with fresh batteries in it. When I jump start it sometimes the horn goes off for a minute. The reverse camera goes out for days and randomly comes on again. Under the hood feels so extremely hot and for some reason it doesn’t register as overheating. Even when I check fluids and for the coolant levels are low for some reason. There is an actuator that constantly is going off under the dash. Airbags didn’t deploy when I hit the wall at all. The limp mode has come on and gone off a few times. Only codes I have is for tps and an outdoor ambient temperature sensor that says it’s either negative 40 degrees or 122 degrees. Which won’t let me clear nor allow me to remote start. Warranty is gone and when you take the fuse box cover off under the hood(just the cover) it goes haywire shaking and lights all over the dash and I have to shut the car off. Yes somebody please inspect this vehicle. The absolute worst vehicle I owe 12k on and I can’t afford to fix all of this that’s shutting down at the same time.

35 Power Train problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

The contact pulled off the roadway. The vehicle was towed to the residence and was inspected by an independent mechanic who retrieved dtc codes for transmission failure. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.
