8 Power Train problem of the 2018 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 10/17/2025

10. 17. 25 vehicle started making tapping noise under the hood. I wasn’t able to identify the problem. I took it to the dealership and they found noise coming from the transmission and stated possible front pump, but wasn’t for sure. They wanted to do an additional diagnostic after I had already paid $197. 27, for 3 more hours at $200 per hour. I took vehicle to another company who found noise was coming from the transmission and stated that the transmission will need to be replaced as they found metal shavings in the pan. They flushed the fluid, replaced the filter, test drove noise went away. They advised that I would make it back to georgia but definitely suggested to get transmission checked. I made it 107 miles from home when it stalled out in 5 o’clock traffic. I tried to accelerate and but it lost motive power. I tapped the breaks tried again after 2 attempts I was able to get to the right shoulder out of the heavy traffic without incident. I was on the side of the road for 4hrs before an older man pulled up to assist. I had to be pushed 2 exits to a gas station. We added more transmission fluid still no motive power it stalled again. Got it towed to a shop to be checked for 3rd time was told it’s the transmission and as of this morning it has been towed to a 4th shop who handles transmission. In my online search for recalls I noticed the same thing happened with the 2016 Dodge Journey as well. I’ve had this vehicle just over a year. I received it with 42k miles on it, awesome condition, apparently one owner who appears to have taken care of it from the looks of vehicle. No major/minor issues noted. By god’s grace I made it out of heavy traffic safely to the off shoulder which was still frightening as well. I may be the first one to report this issue but it needs to be addressed not only for me but everyone who owns one. Metal shavings inside the transmission is crazy. No warning lights on the dash to show something is wrong.

9 Power Train problem of the 2015 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 10/15/2025

I was driving down the freeway and my transmission started slipping and eventually lost power, had to pull over on a 80mph freeway with my 4 kids in the car after turning on my hazard lights and wait for my husband to come get us (1 hour, due to how remote we are) he was able to limp the car home, but we couldn't even get it off of the freeway because it did not have the power to get off on an off ramp. . . I can't even begin to explain how scary that was to have my kids in a car on the side of the freeway while semis shook the car passing us at 70+ mph. . This is a known issue but my car does not fall under the recall and it absolutely should! the transmission oil and filter has been flushed as well as tested to make sure the solenoids are in good working order.

12 Power Train problem of the 2014 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 08/02/2025

Viscous unit for awd Dodge Journeys has been failing causing a clunking and chunking noise. Causing the car jerk on takeoff or on turns. From what others been having issues with is the same thing. Causing a risk of a crash of the rear differential cracking and breaking free from the car. I had to replace the rear axle bdorc/viscous unit on my car already, again from what I read from other owners, they have been having the same issue. And some are worse than others. I fear that it may cause danger to the occupants inside the car and around.

13 Power Train problem of the 2020 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 07/30/2025

The car has 40k miles on it with the extended power train warranty. On [xxx], I drove into phoenix, az 35 minute drive from my home in buckeye, az. As I turned down a road, I heard a "klink" and the engine only reved in both drive and reverse. I turned off the car and pushed it to a nearby parking lot. I was able to call my insurance company and have it towed to larry h. Miller avondale Dodge. I awaited for the service advisor to call me and when mark did call, it was to inform me the computer could not read my car due to the abs module possibly malfunctioned and this is causing the computer to not read my transmission sensors. I was then told the abs module is discontinued and cannot be found. Due to this, I was told labor and programming would be roughly $696, however the price for the module is uncertain. It has now been 2 weeks without a vehicle that has a discontinued part. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

17 Power Train problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 02/18/2025

To whom it may concern: my 2016 Dodge Journey crossroad awd (3. 6l) is currently experiencing "p0944 loss of hydraulic pump prime" (see attached diagnostic report, vehicle_record_report. Pdf from a local auto repair shop) the car was assembled in November 2015. The assembly date falls within the date range specified in the attached safety recall report for s44 / NHTSA 16v-461. (attached is copy, rcrit-16v461-1293. Pdf). However, the VIN number for my vehicle doesn't show up when searched. Given the type of transmission problem we're experiencing, the assembly month/year, the engine too, can someone be assigned to investigate if my vehicle should be included in the recall? it has the symptoms and details to indicate that it might. Also, I did open a case with fca, case #[xxx]. They informed us that if the VIN doesn't show up, there is no recall. We asked if they could verify the transmission model to rule out the recall possibility. They wouldn't. They suggested that we take it to a dealer for a diagnostic. However, we'd prefer another third party to review it first. Is there a recommend, recognized third party that can verify if it is or isn't the sr-44 recall issue causing the problem? this vehicle is needed for our family. Can someone be assigned to look into this for us? thank you so much. Regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

21 Power Train problem of the 2015 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 12/01/2024

Vehicle has oil cooler leak which plastic oil filter casing and oil cooler adapter cracked and leaked. Oil pooled up on top of engine casing channel below intake plenum and dripped down to electrical connectors that go into transmission. Engine oil heated and smoked because of heated motor and smoke goes into vehicle cabin causing oil smoke film inside with occupants. Oil mist is in the inside windshield and outside windshield along with wipers. There is a recall for this year Journey 2015 this year engine 3. 6 vet and transmission combination fwd 6spd ;however, the VIN number is not applying to correct the oil cooler and filter replacement under a recall. There is an upgraded part made that does not fail s44 recall; however I had to pay full price for the repair at a dealership and they replaced with the upgraded recalled part. The recall for this repair is s 44 why was not my VIN and vehicle covered under this recall number? please include my VIN number in this recall as well since everything is the same for s44.

23 Power Train problem of the 2017 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 10/29/2024

I’ve had to replace the thermostat 4 times in 6 months, pto was just repaired and now it fails to accelerate past 2000 rpm, transmission is clunking when shifting. I just got my car back from the Chrysler dealership.

24 Power Train problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 10/24/2024

While driving the car, car stalled and began displaying the lightning bolt icon on the cluster. The power steering stopped working and the brake was very stiff and hard to depress. I pulled off the road and waited a few minutes and started the car again. The idle was very rough, icon was still displayed on the cluster, and car began jerking and stalled again. I had the vehicle towed to the house and began looking into the issue. Error codes read on the car was p0365: camshaft position sensor “b” circuit, and the red lightning bolt indicating an issue with the electronic throttle body. The battery was taken out and tested bad so it was replaced. The throttle body was cleaned and tested good. When I tried to start the car after the codes were cleared, the vehicle attempted to start but wasn't able to turn over fully. The p0365 code returned. I then had a mechanic come check out the car to see if he could do anything to help. He determined that the valves in the engine were bent and the cars timing was off. With all of this being said, this issue I am complaining about is the p0365 camshaft sensor code. There was a recall for the camshaft sensors in some 2016 Dodge Journeys but my VIN did not fall in that range. When I called fca, I was told there was nothing to be done because my VIN wasn't included in the recall. A bad camshaft sensor would cause all of the issues that I am experiencing with the car. If the sensor is bad or doesn't perform as it should, it could effect the overall timing of the engine's firing sequence, causing stalling, failure to start, and damage to the engine, like in my case with the bent valves. This incident posed a severe safety risk to myself and the other drivers around me due to the loss of power steering and partial loss of braking ability. Luckily this incident did not occur on the interstate or major highway, where there are speeds in excess of 55 mph.

25 Power Train problem of the 2020 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 10/19/2024

Heater hose malfunction. No issues spotted but within 24 hours the car began to smoke and the hose obtained a leak and leak anti freeze while driving the entire hose blew up while car was in motion and came to a complete overheated stall in the middle of a busy intersection. I had to throw hazards on and could not exit the vehicle due to heavy traffic and unsafe conditions. No warning lights for a leak or empty reservoir where coolant goes. At blow up the antifreeze flushed to the engine and all oil flushed to the radiator cause an immediate engine block. No recalls for this hose but plenty of research on the hose needing to be removed and replaced with the previous version shaped as a letter y. Purchased this vehicle brand new 3 years ago only 12 miles kept up with oil changes and new tires only issue I've ever had kept up with annual flushes and maintenance as well. This part could have cost me my life in that intersection and central dispatch had to be called to stop traffic vehicle towed for $230 and repairs over $10,000 for a new engine. Now being charged $22,000 the remaining balance on the vehicle for damages beyond my control that should have been a recall.

26 Power Train problem of the 2015 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 10/10/2024

Vehicle has p0740 code of which is a recall on the transmission pump. The recall is s 44 however my VIN does not apply even though it’s the same make, model, year, engine and drivetrain as the recall. Please include my VIN number in the recall because the vehicle stalls/ hesitate when the gas pedal is applied and the transmission is trying to downshift when speeding up to change lanes. The situation is dangerous because the driver can lose control of the vehicle when planning to execute and not get a response from the vehicle when accelerating or changing lanes. The problem is more of a 2 to 3 second hiccup and the vehicle seems confused. Include this vehicle and my VIN number in the s 44 recall of which my dealership has stated it should’ve been included with the rest of the 2015 and 2016 caravan, Dodge Journey recalls. Chrysler (fca us llc) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Chrysler town & country, Dodge grand caravan vehicles manufactured July 31, 2015, to April 18, 2016, 2016 Dodge Journey vehicles manufactured August 17, 2015, to January 29, 2016, and 2016 ram promaster vehicles manufactured August 15, 2016, to April 15, 2016. The transmission pump may seize causing a loss of hydraulic pressure.

The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission and observed metal shavings inside the transmission casing. The vehicle was not repaired. 29 Power Train problem of the 2012 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 08/01/2024

We've owned this vehiclenot even 4 years. It had an engine recall that it was part of. It says it was repaired, however it never recieved a new engine. Now I just spent $9,000+ to replace the entire engine because of the exact issue of the recall: metal fragments in the engine. Why did I pay for this recall problem? did Dodge replace the engine during the recall? paperwork says no, but shows it was "repaired". If it was replaced, why did I replace it again for the exact same issue? Dodge has financially ruined our family. Besides this $9k we've spent $6k on engine work before the new engine, $4,500 on transmission work (with more to come as we're currently experiencing transmission issues) and $6k + on all kinds of issues that has never occurred on any vehicles I have owned in the last 30 years. And we've spent all this in under 4 years. This is unacceptable! for an american auto maker to produce and sell vehicles like this. This is why we people buy foreign. This Dodge is not a well built, trustworthy and dependable car. You won't believe how many times we've had to miss school and work because the car was broken down or being repaired. Our Honda civic was 20 years old, ran better and was 100% dependable. I never had to replace the engine, do any transmission work or have had half the problems with my civic than I have had and currently have with this "american" car that is only 11 years old. As a 1 income family with 2 kids in college and one still in high school, this is completely devastating to us. Trying to save money and get ahead and all of it has been spent fixing this vehicle. Dodge has completely devastated our family. How can an american auto maker be allowed to get away with producing vehicles like this? why should I have to go bankrupt owning a Dodge? why won't they accept responsibility for their defective product? I've spent $25,000 fixing this Dodge in 4 years. I can't afford to fix it or buy a new car. We're ruined.

30 Power Train problem of the 2017 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 07/01/2024

So on 7/1/24 our vehicle started overheating some. And then we had the check engine light to come on along with another light that looks like a lightning bolt inside an inside out parenthesis. So I research the symbol and it came back as an issue with the electric throttle control which is also means there is a problem with the electric parking brake. And then a mesage came on that said oil temp high speed may be limited. And then it started smoking really bad under the hood. So I researched some more and found out back in 2018 there was a recall on the same issue that was completed on September 23rd 2018.

31 Power Train problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

32 Power Train problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 06/03/2024

The car kept stalling while driving. We had it for 2 weeks and all the sencers went bad and it over heated. Had to leave it on the side of the road and it got towed by highway patrol. Also rewend the battery. Now we are stuck without a ride. I looked up the recalls it said they were repaired but I don't think that's true.

33 Power Train problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 05/03/2024

Transmission pump has failed at only 98,000 miles. I was stopped at a stop light and the vehicle would no longer move. I restarted it, and it allowed me to continue driving, but once I stopped again at a stop light it wouldn’t move. This endangers me and the cars around me since the vehicle doesn’t move out of the road. We had the vehicle towed and the mechanic confirmed that it was the transmission pump. There may have been one warning sign weeks ago, but I thought it was due to water in the gas line which happens often. The warning signs were not significant to what happened with the car not moving.
