Nhtsa id number:11258769 engine light multiple times- emissions control - found online but did not receive a recall: in affected cars, fca will replace the catalytic converter and update software for the powertrain control module — that is, your car’s primary drivetrain computer. Fca will recycle the old catalytic converter to remove the precious metals common in such devices, a usual practice. “obviously the catalytic converter, that’s the biggest part of this,” chernoby said. The replacement converter has a “different mixture of precious metals … to be less susceptible to sulfur in the fuel,” he added. Due to the number of replacement catalytic converters needed, the automaker is recalling cars in waves. My Dodge Journey's engine shut off twice while I was driving with no warning. No loss of lights or radio, but the engine just shuts off and car cannot be restarted. The first time I was driving on a highway, and right after accelerating from a stop at a red light the car died. Had to have it towed, and had an auto part store do some basic tests and was told it was just a bad battery, however when it happened again the day after replacing the battery. This time I was on a city street having just exited off of the interstate. I was in traffic and again the car just lost power due to the engine shutting down. Again it would not start and could not be jump started so had it towed to the dealer. Dealer was able to get a code p061c, and followed instructions to update the pcm. From what I understand, a software update was applied to the power control module. I am very concerned with the fact that my car can just shut down the engine with no warning at all. Very dangerous.

Our back-up camera goes dark frequently or flips upside down while backing up and we almost hit a childt that ran behind us suddenly. Also, the vehicle won't shift into low gear when in automatic and going up hills, but shifts in manual, and it suddenly just slows down while in drive, which has caused us to almost get rear-ended several times. Finally, our tire sensors show low pressure, but when we replaced them all the tire symbol still showed up. Because our engine light is on, we took it in for a diagnostic. We were told the only problem is that we need a software update that would correct all these problems. We were told we would have to pay for it, but it seems it should be a recall item because of the safety issues.
One week after purchasing vehicle, navigation system had errors. When attempting to find route, received two error messages. "can't unlock maps" and "detailed maps are required for routing. No detailed maps found on this unit. " took vehicle to the dealership (still under warranty) and they performed software upgrade and said it was now working. Went to leave dealership, started vehicle, and error messages returned. Dealership said they'd now have to order new radio as this was a common problem. Also told the dealership about message that appeared on dash that said "key has left vehicle" - even though I had the key fob on my person, was sitting in the driver's seat, and my engine was running. Also received an error message about the fuel cap and the low fuel icon stayed on for two days after filling with fuel. Readjusted the fuel cap twice and icon still remained and then disappeared after two days on it's own. Dealership said they'd look at it if it happens again. Possibly related to the computer system issue.

Vehicle has intermittent problem where, when starting, only a "click" sound is heard, and engine does not start. Told originally, that the battery was bad. It was replaced. Problem recurred. Then told the alternator and starter were bad, so they were replaced. The problem recurred. Service department told us that software on the "computer" needed to be updated, so that was done. The problem continues to recur. When vehicle won't start, jumping it won't help. We have to just try over and over again. Sometimes it starts after a few tries, sometimes we have to wait 20-30 minutes before engine finally starts. One instance, the vehicle didn't start for an hour. The last communication with the dealer, after having this problem for a number of years, was that they can't fix it because they have no idea what is wrong. This was after spending hundreds of dollars on what turned out to be unnecessary repairs.
The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the air conditioner emitted hot air on the driver side and cold air on the passenger side independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to a software issue. The vehicle was not repaired because the manufacturer did not release the software. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I purchased my vehicle in November 2015, just two weeks ago while stopped at a light my vehicle just turned off . When trying to restart my vehicle jolted then turned on, I took to the dealership they stated all it needed was a software update and it would fix it and that it would never happen again. While 4 days later it happened again this time the vehicle was in motion we were turning a corner and bam the car turns off again almost getting slammed by another vehicle. I had to help my. Husband pull the wheel to turn, the steering wheel locked braked didn't work or accelerator. I opened a case with Chrysler and they say they can't do anything for me. I really need help. With this some please help this is a unsafe vehicle.
I am experiencing intermittent issues with the illumination of tne interior lighting to include the 4. 3-inch touch screen display, the ts display has at times not illumintated for up to a full minute. Also at times the interior lighting will dim for no reason, no external lighting has changed to cause this to happen. Uconnect often will have issues with connecting to phone. The illumination issues occur either after the vehicle has just been started or it has occured while driving. We are also expereincing issues with the brake being difficult to press down on when attempting to start the vehicle, either with the remote start or without. We recently have taken in the vehicle to have it inspected and they did not see any issues. . Read more...
12/7/15 took 2009 Journey with 58575 miles to Dodge dealership because the windshield wipers were coming on by themselves. Dealership replaced 2 windshield wiper switches costing $552. 44. Drove vehicle out of shop 12/8/15 got 1/4 mile away and wipers turned on by themselves in addition the left signal turned on. Drove back to Dodge picked up later and was advised they updated tipm software - no charge because I called Dodge complaints. 2/26/16 problems stated again currently have appointment to bring back to Dodge dealership 3/7/16 will update.
I have not kept track of specific dates, however I now plan on doing so. Since I've purchased this car I've had issues with it starting. Of course I take it back to the dealer where I'm told they can't find anythigng wrong with it, the second time I'm told it just needed a software update, and the third I decided to take it somewhere else. I know it's not the started, battery, alternator, or fuel pump. I've been told it has to be electrical or a software issues. Basically either Dodge knows what the issue is and is lying or they really have no idea. Either way I pay a lot to have a realiable car and it's really frustrating to go into the grocery store come out and my car doesn't want to start, or have to leave for work and end up being late because again my car decides it doesn't want to start. Each time the dealership hasn't charged me anything. I've been driving my car and the engine has just cut off. I've had my windows roll down on there own. Because this seems to be a trending issue I will now track things more carefully. I do have a video avaliable of the most recent issue: https://youtu. Be/gc7xcx263ry.
Horn is honking at random on 2010 Dodge Journey. This has happened on the highway 55+ mph, streets 10+ mph, and while parked in my driveway. The local Dodge dealership has upgraded software & issued a new key fob to me for more than $500 in fees but the issue has not been resolved. The horn honking is a safety issue at stop lights and in traffic as I am causing drivers around me to be alarmed for no reason. I have also had issues with windows & door locks activating at random. The door lock and window issues seem to have been resolved with the new key fob but the horn is still honking.
Vehicle randomly will not start. Everything (lights, air, radio) works except it will not start, makes a clicking noise but will not turn over. We have paid Dodge over 300 dollars to have this issue fixed but it keeps reoccuring. First time we had to have it towed they said it was a software issue and bad battery. We paid for that and not even a week later I was stranded out of town at night with my children. Dodge had it towed thr next morning and could not identify the issue. We have since had to have it towed 2 other times back to Dodge and they have fixed the starter and on the last occasion they said nothing was wrong. Once we had the battery jumped to get it started and it is a brand new battery, however that doesnt always work. We are still dealing with this issue. We received a recall notice in the mail for bad ignition and key issues in may and we still have not been able to get it fixed. We were told by Dodge that we would be put on a waiting list for parts and it could be months as there are a lot of people who are having thr same issues and not enough parts are available. Please look into this issue. No, I didn't crash but it is a safety issue when you are stranded far away from home and noone can help you. It is expensive when I end up having to pay 100's of dollars I'm towing. If you google the issue there are multiple complaints of the same issue and Dodge keeps saying to everyone that they can not identify the issue.
December 8, 2014 I was driving my 2010 Dodge Journey when the horn started to randomly honk as if the alarm had gone off. . . . There was no control over the honking and it startled me and distressed the other drivers in vicinity. Airpark Dodge dealership in scottsdale az stated the the computer software needed updating and that should fix the problem. Feb 1st, 2015 the car randomly started honking within the garage no key in the ignition and no one had driven the car all day. These episodes, 10 in all, were different than the last time as the honks were short in duration, I was able to capture it on video. Airpark Dodge was unwilling to do more than what chrsyler star recommended and wanted to give me back the car with the problem undiagnosed. I am still awaiting a proper diagnosis as I see random uncontrolled honking as a safety issue.
Several times over the past 2 years the touch screen computer system has shut down and rebooted while driving, twice while driving on residential streets at 25 mph and at least once on the highway. Additionally the cruise control has only intermittently worked. I have taken it to two different dealers more than five times to have it checked, every time they update the software, and change either the cruise control module or the clock spring. Nothing has fixed this problem. Dealer has stated they will contact Chrysler but no information is passed back to me - if they even called, probably said it to get me to leave.

The car will not start on a random basis. All lights, radio, dash working properly but the car just "clicks" and refuses to crank over. We were able to get the car to the shop where they did a software update and bought a new battery. Exactly one year later, same problems. We've had it into the shop on two occasions in the last two weeks and both times were told nothing was wrong (although they did put a new battery in). Next day car would not start again . Now it is stuck out of town and is being towed to a different dealership for repair.
The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. While attempting to start the vehicle, the contact noticed that the vehicle would not start unless the key was turned inside the ignition a total of six continual times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the software was updated, however the contact was still experiencing the failure. The current mileage was 102,000 and the failure mileage was 80,000. Updated 05/31/12 the consumer stated it took up to four times to start vehicle. He took the vehicle to dealership twice and the dealership made two area adjustments. The problem was not fixed. He took back a third time but dealership stated the problem was fixed but will re-check it again. The consumer left the vehicle for two days. Updated 6/6/12.
Started with a flashing check engine light after awhile will stay on & only flash intermittently. Dealer found code for #1 cylinder misfire & a TSB to update the software. 2 weeks later it returned, when the light flashes the steering wheel & front end shakes. No codes, no tsbs. It returned within 80 miles of last trip to dealer, they performed TSB 18-024-10 crank sensor shim, light returned along with the shaking within days. Dealer replaced flexplate. Again the light returned within days. Next they did some form of engine cleaning, light returned within 500 miles of last attempt to fix. Codes are always#1 cylinder misfire & random cylinder misfire. On may 16th the dealer looked at it, did a compression check of the cylinders, all good. Chrysler support told them to change the pcm. As of may 19th it was 7th nation wide on back order while I continue to drive the vehicle with the light on & intermittent shaking hoping it doesn't leave me stranded between now & when the part comes in as they don't have an exact date. Dealer claims no other reported Journeys having this problem.
Vehicle powers off while it's being driven. The first time it happened, my wife was pulling out of the driveway. This has happened three different times since then. What I mean by power off is, you have to put the car in neutral or park to restart it. I can't duplicate this nor can chyrsler's repair personnel. It's scary because you don't know when this is going to happen. Chrysler updated the software in October 2010, but it has happened twice since then. It's at the dealership as I file this report for the same problem.
