The transmission is not shifting properly. Went to my mechanic after the check engine light came on. Electronic testing indicated two problems: (1) tune up was needed; (2) sensors in transmission indicated problem. When I bought the truck at anderson Dodge in bloomfield hills, michigan, I was not informed of the 7-year/70,000 mile warranty on the power train. I found this out only after contacting the Chrysler (Dodge) web site that I had the 7/70,000 warranty. This was to late as I had already taken the truck to multistate transmission in waterford, michigan (on m-59)((huron street)). The dealership only informed me that I had a 3 year/36 month or 36,000 mile warranty (bumper to bumper) warranty on the vehicle, whichever came first. Much to my surprise, when trying to contact Chrysler (Dodge) on the computer, did I find out that I actually had the 7/70000 warranty. It was to late to take it to a dealership as multistate transmission on m-59 (huron street) in waterford, michigan already had the truck and dropped the trans for repairs. Results; rebuild the trans due to torque converter and sensors. Problem was that there was a seal inside the transmission that was defective according to multistate. I have also had conversations via the internet with chris, sr. Customer service representative and he was not very helpful. He even asked for my phone number(s) where I could be contacted and he has not contacted me as of this writing. I continue to try to contact him but he fails to return an answer for the messages that I have sent him. I have the copies of all conversations via the internet and can send to you if so needed. I even had a union secretary friend of mine who stated that the customer service reps were members of the union, which she is a secretary to see if she could help. She informed me that if I had taken the truck to a Chrysler (Dodge) dealership, that they would have possibly paid for half of the repairs.

Transmission: Dodges computer controls the torque converter for emissions and for gas mileage. After following Dodges spects on service for the truck and no abuse to the truck we still loss the torque converter which than destroyed the transmission. Steering: at 30000 miles the seals in the steering gear box went out. At 81000 after repair earlier the shaft and seal went out and the gear box had to be replaced. Both problem we have been told are problem Dodge will not take responsibilty for but happen with most of this models trucks.
Made three trips to dealer for engine light over a period of 45 days. First trip was on 10/3/01with a charge of $132. 25 tech found torque converter not working. Cleaned torque converter solenoid. Second trip to dealer was made on 10/30/01 with check engine light on again. Tech found same problem again and replaced torque converter solinoid for charge of $246. 58. Third trip was made on 11/13/01 with check engine light again on. This time tech said probably an internal leak "somewhere" but don't know where. Said ok to drive until transmission starts slipping. Check engine light came on again on the way home and trans began slipping next day. Returning to dealer on 11/15/01 the transmission gave out completely and had to be towed. Dealer called on 11/16/01 stating that the front plate in transmission had failed and probably could never get all the metal out of transmission. Now cost will be $2200 for a rebuilt transmission.

The torque converter shredded itself it cost $2000 to make all necessary repairs to transmission.
Torque converter burned, transmission was slipping, but dealer refused to fix the problem.
Transmission does not shift from second to third gear easily. Consumer contacted several mechanics, including Chrysler dealer, who said that it was a "manufacturing defect and should be recalled. " transmission began to fail at 57, 000, it was a heat related problem. An overdrive unit w/ torque converter heated up seals which will not allow the seals to hold pressure.

Torque converter locks up while towing near capacity loads up hill.
Consumer states the torque converter was replaced twice, causing engine to cut off when driving.
Please refer to service bulletin 971017182997, NHTSA sb054220. This is what I am experiencing on my truck. I have no complaints with the dealer they did all they could. The torque converter locks up between 40 and 53 mph. I wanted them to fix it. They said all of the Dodge Ram pickups do this. The whole truck starts to shake between 40 and 53 and its due to the gear setting in the tranny and the engine rpm. This was designed by Dodge for fuel effeciency but causes the truck to shake due to torque converter lock-up. I was satisified that it wasn't just a problem with my truck when the Dodge dealer let me pick out a new Dodge on his lot with the same size engine and drive train, it had 6 miles on it (brand new 99'). When I drove the new truck it was considerably worst than mine and started to shake between 30 and about 53 but it shook more than my truck thru the entire range. I am concerned that this shaking due to torque converter lockup won't eventually shorten the life of the torque converter and possibly the transmission. I found your service on the internet, so I am giving it a try. Thank you.
When driving consumer noticed transmission light was illuminated on dashboard. Vehicle was turned off. After restarting vehicle consumer noticed transmission light went off. After driving a little ways transmission made a very loud noise. Consumer contacted dealer, which determined that torque converter failed, and transmission overheated, melting various parts within transmission. Transmission have been replaced at 12, 000 miles/40, 000 miles, and now at 46, 000 miles. Please provide any further details.
Vehicle excessively vibrates at around 40-50 mph. Brought it to the dealer 3 times and finally on the 3rd visit they diagnosed the problem as the torque converter locked up at 45mph caused by lugging down the engine. They said it was normal for this style of truck, but then said they can only wait for TSB and possible trans controller flash. This problem is an annoyance and should be dealt with as soon as possible. Dt.
