The consumer placed the vehicle into park, while exiting the vehicle the door knocked the consumer to the ground. The vehicle continued to roll into a creek. The consumer stated that the gear was in park, however she was not sure if it came out of park. The manufacture will be contacted.
Vehicle changed gears on its own. Then, engine raced. Consumer felt vehicle was going to take off.
While driving at 35-45 mph vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating. The vehicle felt as if it was in neutral. Transmission burned fluid, causing it to fail. A mechanic ant the transmission repair shop indicated that this was due to the coolant not circulating through the transmission when vehicle was idling in the park gear. Transmission needed to be rebuilt. Consumer was told by two different mechanics that rear wheel drive Chrysler vehicles if in park with the engine running, coolant doesn't circulate to the transmission. Consumer phoned Chrysler customer service and they advised her to contact NHTSA for a possible recall. Consumer learned of the trans coolant connect recall. Then she recalled that part being replaced prior to the failure. The fluid was checked before the vehicle was towed, and it was thick and brown as a result of being burnt. The consumer feels a fair resolution would be for Chrysler to reimburse her at least half the cost of the transmission repairs.

The bolt that holds fifth gear in place dislodged and the gear came off the shaft. Vehicle was still drivable in the other four gears but fifth gear was inoperable. Manufacturer and the dealer have been notified.
While shifting the vehicle transmission started shifting left to right.
While traveling about 55mph on the highway without prior warning. The fifth gear gave out.
While driving at any speed andwith no warning transmission locked up, locking rear tires. It was hard to control vehicle. Consumer was forced to pull over. Dealer notified.
I got 2 month out of the replacement part because of the mileage now I have to replace it again 550. 00 every 2 month because Dodge doesn't want to admit there is a problem with this transmission (47re).
Transmission was leaking oil consumer called dealer and explained the problem, and was told that warranty was 1000 miles over , they would have to charge him for it. It seemed that transmission mount was worn out.

When vehicle is cold it will not go into reverse. Also, vehicle will not go into second or third gear unless consumer releases gas pedal and rpms will come down. Dealership was aware of problem.
I was not able to enter the VIN # here it 187kf23c8tj185891. I was traveling @ 75 mph in the fast lane of interstate 95 in heavy traffic. Felt sudden loss of power & decline of speed, narrowly escaped major accident. Found that transmission lost 5th gear. Researched and found manufacturer published service bulletin (#21-10-98a) sept. 98. I was never made aware of this known problem. Dodge does not consider this a safety concern - I wish they were in the vehicle when this happened instead of my two sons & I.
Truck will not shift smoothly into gear. Has called dealer and was told truck problem cannot be repaired.
When travling at any speed vehicle becomes diffcult to change into 3rd or 4th gear. When temperature gets colder situation becomes worse. Contacted dealer, and dealer was willing to replace transmission.
Major transmission repair/overall needed. Overdrive remained on, fluid heated up quickly. Repairs bill over $1890. Vehicle has 46,000 mile and only 2 1/2 yrs old.
Was driving home when vehicle started to slow down, applied more gas, but vehicle was not going anywhere. Motor would rev up. Managed to get vehicle to side of road. Placed vehicle in park and was getting out when vehicle almost ran over driver. Vehicle did not have park/drive or reverse. Vehicle was towed. Was informed, it had no rear end.
Have had to rebuild transmission, also know of others in this same area with the same problem and they are also 1996 models.
Transmission would have late or no shift into third gear causing engine to rev to high rpms not allowing the vehicle to go over 45 mph. Upon taking the vehicle for repairs the mechanic informed us that the manfacturer was aware of the problem, which was caused by an inner seal groove. Has there ever been a recall or has the manufacter offered any compensation for this defect?.
Consumer tried to put car in drive and it felt like it was in neutral. To go in reverse has to put it into neutral. To drive it has to be in 2nd gear. Took to dealer.
Steering has to much play, also there is a popping sound, to dealer 4 times, cannot find problem. Vehicle will not stay in overdrive.
Tires, though we haven't experienced a blow out or treads peeling off, the tires are wearing much quicker than they should. With only 12,000 mile on the vehicle, the tires look like it's been driven 50,000 miles. Mid October we called chrsyler in auburn hills, to let them know how unsafe we feel driving this truck. We have had this truck brought back to the dealer eleven times for warranty work, eight of which were for brake problems. (dot number: m32kerhx tiresize: p245/75r16).
After 500 miles transmission would not shift properly. Took to dealer and there was no transmission.
Transmission has a delay when shifting from 2 nd to 3 rd gear, also there is a grinding sound when in reverse.
We purchased a 1998 Dodge conversion van as our family vehicle. On sept 21,2000 my wife loaded our children, ages 7,6, & 2, into the vehicle. She then went & locked the house door. Our 2 year old got out of her car seat, went to the front of the van, & pulled down on the gear shift pulling it into gear. The vehicle rolled over a 3 foot wall, down a steep hill, through a 2 foot ditch, and then struck a telephone pole. Thank goodness no one was seriously injured, but this condition could have tragic. I own an insurance agency so I started to check around to see if this was a defect that the vehicle could be put into gear without first applying the brake. What I found out was shocking, I was informed by the Dodge dealer that this safety feature was an option on this vehicle, which I was not informed of at time of purchase , this is ludicrous!!! in my research I have yet to find a private passenger vehicle that is not equipped with this safety feature and to declare it an option on a family use vehicle is irresponsible. Thank goodness the lord was looking over my family that day, but what about the next family. Please look into this situation, so no family has to needlessly endure a tragedy.
Manufacturer replaced part free of charge, however, I had to pay for 12 hours of labor. Having an obviously defective part in a three year old vehicle, should not warrant a penalty of payment by me.
