I had stopped at a boat Ramp to launch boat. I tied end of rope to bumber of truck and the other end to the boat. I then was going to back down to water until boat floated off trailer and then pull ahead, stop and get rope and tie boat to dock. The rope snagged on the bumber of truck so I pulled up, stopped, got out of truck and walked to back of truck. I got rope off of bumber and was coiling it on the front of the boat when the truck jumped into reverse and almost injured me twice. Once when it almost backed over me and once when I tried to get into it to put into gear, but was too late and truck entered water and sunk. Everyone says that I left gear in reverse, but how did I get out and walk to the back of the truck before it started to move?? I think transmission was defective and dangerous.

We have tried to get this transmission repaired/replaced since purchase date. We have gone thru the lemon law process, as a result it was labeled a "life threatening malfunction or nonconformity that impedes the consumer's ability to control or operate the vehicle for ordinary use or reasonable intended purposes ore creates a risk of fire or explosion. " [rcw 1931183021(18)] we have spoke to many others with transmission problems who own Dodge Ram trucks. I understand now, thru hindsight, that Dodge trucks with this particular transmission are noted for problems.
Transmission does not properly shift into different gears, cause unknown. The consumer had been to the dealer several times for repairs of ball joints, power steering and the transmission.

Cruise control engages at any given time. Dealer noticed transmission sending unit cable got loose. Consumer states most common scenario is cruise control being set at speed, then being cancelled by consumer either by cancel button or by braking, cruise will then reengage at set speed.

Reporting defective transmission parts; on two occasions the fifth gear went out due to a nut that retracted and caused the transmission to lose fifth gear. Now on third occasion they will replace transmission. Can NHTSA help or provide additional information on this matter.
Transmission light & the anti-brake system light keep coming on.
Slight jerkiness between 45 - 50 mph, less noticable jerkiness at higher speeds. Dealer stated that Dodge does not have an answer to the problem. The component has not failed, but it is very irritating to say the least. There was one occasion where I had 2 sudden jerks while traveling at 50 mph. The dealer where I have the vehicle serviced didn't have an answer. I am surprised that this has not been reported before. I know of a 1998 Ram 1500 that has the same problem.
Transmission will not downshift/ upshift, causing stalling or hesitation usually at an intersection. 4 repair attempts this year.
Transfer replaced w/in 4 mths of purchase, transmission now does not wish to shift. . . Dealer is questioning.

Truck will not downshift without pushing accelerator about half way to the floor. Pushing the accelerator that far down could cause an accident. Manufacturer said there was no remedy for this problem.
Transmission has premature internal dysfunction. Hangs in gears, and slips while shifting, causing a dangerous situation. This truck is apparently well known for this problem without submitting a recall. Repair is about $2000.
Vehicle placed in service 10/95 so out of warranty. Manufacturer refuses to do anything because it was not repaired by them. This is the same problem that the 95 trucks had (8/82).
Have had many recalls on this truck, now transmission problems. Just don't know what to do.
No summary provided by consumer.
While driving approximately 40mph transmission died/stalled out. It had started to jerk before going out. The rpms were revved up. Transmission went into neutral on its own. Then vehicle stopped. Was vacationing in south carolina when this occurred.
Transmission shifts late, jumping into gear on different occasions usually between 10-35 m. P. H. Dealership analyzed problem, but found nothing. Problem still persists.
