Dodge Ram 1500 owners have reported 10 problems related to air conditioner (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I believe I purchased the vehicle into thousand two and in approximately 2006, they dashboard started severely cracking and falling apart in pieces. I purchased a dashboard cover to try to hold the dashboard in place and prevent chunks of the dashboard from flying loose and hitting either myself or a passenger in the vehicle. On December 23, 2017, I was driving and a chunk of the dashboard flew out of the air conditioner vent and hit me in the eye. Luckily I was not hurt but I am very concerned this will not be the case next time. I don't have another vehicle to drive and I got an estimate for $1500 to replace it and I don't have the money to do this, neither should I have to replace it because I've done research and it was a major faulty defect on the manufactures part. Please contact me ASAP to resolve this issue so that I'm not injured or a passenger riding with me is not injured. My number is 713-857-6635 and my email address is vtravis123@gmail. Com. Since I have to drive this vehicle because I don't have another one and can't afford to replace the dashboard, if anyone is injured due to this problem, I will hold the manufacture responsible. I'm unable to take any pictures of the dashboard because if I remove the dashboard cover, chunks of the plastic sharp dashboard will fall into the inside of the panel and possibly damage the vehicle even more.

Over a period of a few years the dashboard has been cracking and small pieces breaking off. Recently the air conditioning stopped working so I took it to my mechanic and it turned out to be a defective evaporator coil which is under the dash. When they started to remove the dash it broke into small pieces. I was not too worried about this because I had recently purchased a dash cover from an online company. The mechanic said it was not a cosmetic problem, the passenger air bag is supported by this dash and they would have to do a lot of extra work to keep the airbag in position. It cost me an extra $400. 00. The NHTSA is aware that this is an extensive problem yet you refuse to consider a recall because you consider it to be a cosmetic issue. Are you aware that an airbag is suspended from this dash and if the dash crumbles so does the airbag and very possibly will not deploy in an accident.

Cracked dashboard. Parts of the dashboard are falling down into air conditioner and everything else under it. There are parts of the foam that are flying out of the air conditioner vents and pieces are coming out the vents, heas have been replaced and now engine sounded like it exploded now it needs an engine vehicle model year has many known non recalled issues.
When the heater is turned on, air will only come out the air conditioning vent. The defrosters have no hot air coming out. This is an safety hazard since windows cannot be defrosted. I have talked to many other ram owners that have the same problem. There was a recall (k-17) for some 2009 and 2010 models. This recall should be opened up to all models with this problem.

The contact owns a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the front windshield defroster failed to operate whenever activated. The heater and air conditioner system would not circulate the air flow properly through the entire air vents whenever activated. Also, the heat and air conditioner would not blow the correct desired temperature. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed that the actuator motors, heater core and flap door actuator would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000.
I own a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab. I bought the vehical new. For several years the dash has been cracking and the plastic air conditioning vents are falling apart. I have made no repairs and it needs fixing. Also the rear end is roaring probably from a bearing going bad. Other than this problem, it has been a good truck.

My Dodge truck 1998 Ram 1500 dashboard is cracking and has been for several years. The cracks now are moving toward the panel of instruments and the cracks are coming together to make holes I can not get the evaporator vor my air condition fixed due to the faulty dash. I contacted Chrysler and stated that there is no recall and would not repair dash. I went online and this appears to be a common problems with the Ram 1500 my truck is kept inside when not being used and is up to date on all maintenance.
