Dodge Ram 1500 owners have reported 6 problems related to owners/service manual (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
When I ordered my 2004 Dodge ram the side airbags were optional and I ordered them. Since the airbags occupied the side area above the door windows the "grab handles were relocated to the a-pillar for the driver and front seat passenger. Yesterday I went to enter the truck, parked in a parking lot, and grabbed the handle it pulled off the a-pillar. Everyone I have transported in the truck uses these "grab handles" to enter and exit. This is a very important safety item. I provide transportation for a friend who can no longer drive and has had his leg amputated below the knee. It is almost impossible for him to enter the truck without the use of the grab handle. The 2 bolts that hold the "grab handle" to the a-pillar did not pull out, the end of the plastic socket the bolt mounts in pulled from around the bolt and freed the "grab handle" and almost dumped me on the ground. Since the a-pillar trim/grab handle is identified as a "grab handle" in the factory shop manual I feel that this should be brought to your attention as a safety problem.

The vehicle was parked in my drive way. I was in the house with the keys in my pocket. I instructed my children to get in the truck. As they climbed in, one child lost her balance and hit the gear shift. The gear shift interlock failed, allowing the vehicle to change gears from park to neutral. The truck then proceeded to roll down my driveway, with two of my kids in the cab, and my third child hanging on the door being drug across the ground. Fortunately, no one was injured, but my truck plowed through my ditch, destroyed my mailbox causing $7,800 damage to the truck. I contacted Chrysler, who performed a special investigation. However, even though they concluded the gear shift interlock did indeed fail, they refused responsibility stating that "maintenance and repairs are the responsibility of the owner. " I did not know that the shift interlock was failed. In fact, the engineer that did the investigation stated that it exhibited intermittent failure. So there was no way for me to know it was failed until I experienced a failure. After my truck rolled down the driveway, I realized something had failed. Furthermore, the owner's manual does not specify any recommended maintenance for the shift interlock. At the time of the incident, the vehicle was parked, but the parking brake was not set.

Driver's door lock stuck on locked. Can be manually opened from the inside but will not unlock with keyless or keyed entry.
When filling gas tank after the gas pump handle clicks shut to stop flow from the hose the gas from the tank comes back through the fill line and pours out over the side of the truck, approximately 1 pint so it is quite a spill. This happens at every gas station, I use gasoline with 10% ethanol gas, and if I stop the gas flow from the hose manually it also happens.

Everything was alright, we parked the truck came out and it wouldn't open the door, so we manually opened the door. It was just dead. We had it towed to a Dodge dealer in price, utah. We have only had this vehicle for about a year and a half. The computer off the key ignition was gone. It costs us $924. 00.

The driver's side door lock actuator failed causing it to be stuck in the "locked" position. Using the key fob and manually turning the key in the door lock had no effect on the mechanism. The only way to open the door was by entering through the passenger side. Upon opening the door from the inside by use of the door handle the handle became stuck in the open position and had to be pushed back to its default setting. The lock makes a very loud "pang" noise now when locking as if metal on metal contact is being made.
