1 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/09/2021

While driving my truck it just shut off, died and would not start back up. This was very dangerous! going 65 miles an hour, in the center lane trying to get over to the side of the road. . . Safely! I tried to start the truck. . . Everything came on as normal, but would not crank. I had to have the truck towed $$. The alternator was replaced $$. Truck still would not start. It would not crank, you could hear clicking under the hood and you could hear the fuel pump come on. I was told it was the win module which cost me $870. 00!! (win module and programming) evidently this is a common problem with Dodge trucks. What does it take to have a recall on this part?!! does it take a certain number of crashes or deaths? all in all it cost me about $1500, but it could have cost me my life, my girlfriends life, and possibly people in other vehicles that were driving around me. I have researched and found that other Dodge vehicles were affected with this faulty part and there was a recall put out. There again, I ask Dodge. . . . What does it take to have a recall on this part for Ram 1500 trucks?? I hope that all owners that had or is having this problem to file a report! please! read all the discussions similar to mine on Dodge forum. Again, please report these types of problems, they will not know how may vehicles are affected if it's not reported. You may save someone's life.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/31/2017

Was driving the truck and all the warning lights come on and the truck just died. I tried to start it back up and heard a clicking noise. Thinking that it was just a battery problem, I put a jump box on it and it started. Took the jump box off and it died. Knew it was the alternator and had it towed to the shop. They put a new alternator on it and still was not charging. Changed the battery and still was not charging. Checked the fuse box and found a blown fuse for the pcm and changed it. It still was not charging. Like anyone else and product of elimination, voltage regulator. Go to change the voltage regulator and find out that they changed it to a module that they put inside the computer. Now, I have to have the whole computer changed or do without my truck while the computer is fixed. Why are they allowed to take such a simple part as a voltage regulator that commonly goes out and combine it with a majar part such as a computer that cost $100's of dollars to fix?.

7 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2014 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 12/11/2013

There is a continuous unknown electrical draw causing the battery to drain to the point the vehicle will not start. An electrical surge will cause the electric suspension to activate along with the console cluster after the vehicle has been turned off. The vehicle has been back to the dealership 6 times and neither the dealership or Chrysler has a fix. The condition is getting worse and now there is a new issue affecting the electrical clutches in the transmission. I have requested a loaner vehicle until I can purchase a different vehicle I feel is safer. On April 3, 2014, the district Chrysler representative denied the request. I believe this vehicle is unsafe for multiple possible reasons but especially concerned about he alternator. The alternator's function is to recharge the battery once it's been used to start the engine. And to keep the battery charged when various electrical systems are used in the vehicle. The alternator determines how much to charge the battery by measuring the reference voltage from the battery. If there's a problem with the battery where the reference voltage is very low, the alternator will try to recharge the battery. The alternator isn't designed to recharge a dead battery. It's intended to maintain the charge on a good battery. When this does happen, the alternator begins to run hot, and this is what kills the alternator. A dead battery while driving means no electric steering, no antilock brakes, no air bags, ect. I'm very concerned about the safety of this vehicle.

9 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 07/22/2012

The dashboard get destroy to easly and the debries flies to the face making drive insecure because the plastic parts were hiting the face. The powers train gets very easly damage by rocks and debris on the street making it to vulnerable to get destroy (and that happen to me) . The charging regulator gets brokes for nothing anytime and you need to be changing the computer or ading an external one and solder it to the principal cables that goes to the alternator, and relays.

10 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

My 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 keep stalling when decelerating. The engine will start right up again when I turn the key but unless I keep my foot on the gas it dies again and again. It's always at low speeds like in a parking lot or approaching stop signs or red lights. This is very dangerous in traffic. I have had it to 3 different mechanics and we've replaced the alternator and the battery (twice on the battery) and it is still doing the same thing. Sometimes it runs fine and then it just starts quitting on my.

12 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 03/02/2009

About 1 month ago the dash board lights and gauges started to act up so we carried it into the local dealership where we purchased the vehicle. They stated that there was condensation in the fuses. They said it was repaired and charged us about $100. Then a few days ago it started to do it again. Before we could take it back to be looked at it burst into flames in our driveway at 2 am on 3/2/09. Fire dept. States that the fire started under the hood. I've been searching on the internet for an explanation and I've found that there was a recall on 2004 Dodge ram's, a short circuit in the generator harness can cause "under the hood fires"! I've contacted the dealership and Dodge customer service. They say that my VIN # is not included in this recall. It seems like it should. . . Our vehicle was purchased brand new, it had 5 miles on odometer when we left the lot. It had 68000+ miles when it burst into flames.
