Truck makes drone sound and vibrations can be felt when the mds system is activated. This is not a safety-related concern but rather quality/comfort. When taken to the dealer, they indicated it was normal and due to the mds turning on.

While normal driving the vehicle doesn't seem to idle right. At times the engine will rev a little then lets off, then back up and so on. Also under normal acceleration the rpms will climb about 100 then stop going up then bump up 100 then stop again and so on until accelerator is pushed harder. During first drive in the morning vehicle will accelerate then suddenly the rpms will drop to about 1000 then a slip second later the truck will kick back in.

I was driving on the highway at about 55 miles an hour when the engine blew causing me to almost get hit in traffic. The engine blew, however there is a TSB in regards to the oil pressure stating that is not an issue. The only way to correct this problem is to replace the engine. There is numerous complaints on the web stating the same results as mine. Dodge states that I caused this problem.
Oil pressure drops all of a sudden truck quits. There many other people on the web with the same problem. There is no other problem until oil pressure drops for no reason. Mechanics all say the same thing need new engine. Oil is changed when it is suppose to be. The engines need to be recalled because there are alot of people having the same problems.

We have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500. We are the only owner and have taken good mechanical care of this truck. My husband drives a good distance to work and we have around 170xxx miles on this truck. Haven't had alot of trouble out of it until it started misfiring and not starting. Not to bad right. . . . Wrong only a few days later the cylinders started missing. Now we are told that we must buy a new engine for it. The junk yard models cost around 1700 dollars. We still owe around $3100 so considering what we owe and the insurance of 450 every six months it isn't even worth fixing time you add in labor. This is so ridiculous we thought we would have drove this truck for a long time. I have an older Ford and it has 350xxx miles on it and I bought this one used I guess it was to much to hope for, for this Dodge ram to last long.
After driving at highway speeds for a period of time, once I stop the vehicle and almost always happens after I proceed into a turn, without warning, the vehicle's engine cuts off. I have carried it to the dealer twice, they say they have never heard of this before and can find no problem, they tell me once this has been brought to the manufacturers attention more than three times, a service bulletin is issued. I know of one other owner of this same vehicle with the same problem and the internet has numerous complaints about the same problem with the make and model of this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500. On approximately six occasions, while driving at any speed, the vehicle surged forward without warning. The contact has to depress the brake pedal and hold it down. The rpm's increased and the vehicle felt as if it were attempting to get away. The vehicle has to be completely shut off in order for it to stop. The esp indicator also illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle has been to a dealer six times for this failure without any resolution. The current mileage was 26,529 and failure mileage was 4,000. Updated 11/17/08

While driving down the highway the check gauges light and audible alarm came on. I looked down to see I had no oil pressure on my truck. It was a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 with 69043 miles. I immediately pulled over and checked the oil. Everything seemed ok. I thought start the truck to see if there was a fluke in the warning. The oil pressure came up and I set there everything was ok. I proceeded down the highway. Shortly thereafter paying close attention to the oil pressure I noticed it dropping again. I pulled over and called the local dealership and then a tow truck to pick up and deliver my truck to the dealer. The dealership says the motor needs replacing and will not be covered under warranty. Oil sludge has built up in the motor. The oil has been changed three times by a Dodge dealership once by a local garrage and the other 5 times by me. I have changed the oil as reccommened by the vehicle manual. The failure has caused a engine loss and replacement is required. I have tried to work extensivley with the dealership and Chrysler corporation with refusal from both. The truck is currently at failure waiting for warranty repairs.
Oil pressure gauge went to zero. Never came back. Dodge will not warranty the engine , dealer says the engine is shot, 56k and is still under warranty. Dealership started at 8 grand to fix it. Is now down to 4,500. It appears this could be a common problem but Dodge won't warranty the repair.
Dodge 1500 ram truck, engine seized. Chrysler corporation will not honor the claim due to findings of sludge in the engine. I have provided records of maintenance on the vehicle.
Like everyone's else's 2001 Ram 1500 the dash board cracked all over the place, big pieces falling down inside the dash and vents, and also the heads cracked at 75,000 miles or so.

Loss oil pressure on i75, towed truck to Dodge dealer, they said the engine was ruined. Dodge will not fix engine. Truck has 26,000 miles and under warranty. They said the oil was bad but they didn't take an oil sample or have it tested.
1. Oil pressure gauge started swinging back & forth. I took me about 100 yards to pull over safely and the engine quit. 2. Engine seized and needed to be replaced, bob bose Dodge in bradenton florida said the failure was due to lack of maintenance and will not be covered by the extended warranty. I have maintained this engine religiously and have changes the oil more than recommended. There is no reason for an engine with 63,000 miles to fail like this.
I have a loud tick coming from the motor. I have had it to the dealership to fix and they told me that it is a known problem but was told not to try and fix the problem. This is a known issue with these motors by daimler Chrysler but refuse to fix it until there is a serious problem with the motor. The problem I have with this is the warranty may be up at that time forcing me to have to pay for something that they know about now and also the resale of the vehicle before it is fixed with that noise coming from the motor.
Hemi engine dies for no reason. 3 times within 1yr and half, truck restarts fine. Happens after it is put in gear and driven for @150ft. Took to dealer and the denied any problems.
Purchased new 2001 Dodge ram paid cash pmt for it 28,000 also a chevy truck mind you never no big issues with the chevy on the other hand the Dodge issue after issue now the serious problem cracked collapsing dashboard I use only meguire products o the Dodge take excellent care of it I am very disappointed that daimler Chrysler is not fixing these problems there is a big history of this issue with the 01 I see they do not back up the name Dodge when I am ready for a new truck again I highly doubt look at another Dodge truck even though they are pretty trucks but like I said I have had a big history of issues on my ram for it being bought new disappointed Dodge ram owner and this ram has been taken very good care of. The consumer also stated the heat stopped working and the engine consumed excessive amounts of oil and there was no warning to indicate there was a problem. Updated ivoq 03/11/11.
At 6:45 am as I approached a red stop light the engine died. I noticed it because the breaking and steering became difficult. It restarted easily and I was able to get to work without any other problems.
The consumer was driving at 30 mph when the vehicle caught fire. The fire department responded and the vehicle was totaled.

Have had the truck less than two years and have had service because of faulty motor in windshield wipers, bad coil in engine, mis-firing, causing the cylinders and valves to be replaced, fuel cap replaced, fuel line replaced because of water in the lines, heater had bad piece, causing heat to not come out of defrost or floors, shifter for 4-wheel drive will not shift. Has been in shop 13 days(3 visits) in last 4 weeks. Needs to go back this week for shifter.
I was drving down the road when the truck caught on fire, the front cab only. Me and my children jumped out just in time before it was engulfed in flames.

Loud knock coming from lower end of the 5. 7l hemi motor.
When the driver moved across two lanes to initiate a left turn the truck lost all power. The consumer pushed down on the accelerator but noting happened until the driver pushed the pedal all the way to the floor. When the pedal was pushed all the way to the floor the truck lurched forward quickly at a very high rpm. The problem has never occurred again, even after the dealer examined the vehicle. The cruise control would not disengage until the vehicle's speed exceeded 8 mph over the set speed.
At less than 300 miles, shifted into 4 wheel drive while doing 65 mph on the interstate. Taken to dealership and was told a wire was left loose and wrapped around another part causing the problem. Also complained the truck was dying while driving. Also told this was a wiring problem. At 19000 the tires needed replaced and at 80000 miles the oil pressure gauge dropped to 0.
Have an 03 ram hemi, 6020 miles on it, broke down last week. Dealership thought it was a faultyfuel injector causing the missfire. It was a broken valve spring. Now they only want to replace 1 spring and leave 15 possibly bad ones in it. Have owned truck since July 2nd 2003.
Dodge Ram 1500 hemi. Bought on 5-26-03. On 6-2-03 the truck broke down. Broken valve spring. First it was thought the computer. Now Dodge wants motor back. Truck is still in the shop with the replacement motor not in sight. Is this a problem with the new hemi style motor? may need to look into this.
Engine "hangs" at idle after backing up and shifting into drive. Will not accelerate. Can be overcome by shutting down and restarting. Has occurred in about a dozen instances since Jan 03. Dealer can't fix. Chrysler blows it off.
Ram 1500 hemi, with 1900 miles on it, it broke a valve spring, cracked the block, lost the motor. It took 14 days to get the motor replaced, now it has a rear main seal leak. Waiting on parts, 12 days. My truck has been it shop for 26 days, I've only owned it for two and half months. After 30 days it falls under the lemon law.
The engine consumed six quarts of oil in the last 3000 miles. The dealer was notified and indicated that there was nothing they could do since the vehicle was no longer under warranty.
