Failure Date: 04/05/2021

Several times while I have been driving on a highway or busy road and the engine gets to normal operating temperature, the engine stalls and shuts off. Then I have to maneuver it to the side of the road and let it cool off approximately 15 minutes and then it cranks back up and I can drive 5 minutes and it does the same thing again, very dangerous.

4 Engine Stall problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 12/03/2018

The engine stalls and cuts off without any warning. I've had it at 4 different auto repair shops including 3 weeks at landmark Dodge and no one can determine what is going on with it. I've had the fuel pump replaced and cylinders replaced. It's crazy andd very frustrating that Dodge can't fix their own product.

And all engines were installed at ase certified shop and all have blown up also due to this sludge build up problem that Chrysler corp is aware of but refuses to admit its engine factory defect and all my engines failed at 1,200 miles/ 1,468 miles/27,497 miles on last engine and all failed of same cause sludge build up.

7 Engine Stall problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 12/02/2015

I bought this truck in 2014 from the family of the original owner who was deceased. It now has about 116,000 miles. The engine stalls unexpectedly and randomly at slow speeds, often while turning on curves or at intersections, but not always. I have made all repairs recommended by Dodge and other mechanics, but it still stalls. The Dodge people say they have never seen or heard of this problem, but the internet is full of accounts of very similar situations.

8 Engine Stall problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 10/31/2015

The engine stall which appears you have investigated is concerning for me. Multiple times I have been make a r turn and had the engine "die" in deceleration through the turn resulting in the truck losing power steering and electrical components of the truck. The recent incident almost resulted in me striking a motorcycle waiting in the l hand turn lane for the traffic signal. The engine has stalled in several other turn situations causing me to be restarting at stand still in traffic. I feel this has proven to be a safety concern and not just a inconvenience.

I was going 60 miles per hour down the freeway and engine stalled in the middle of the road, completely turned off,had to pull over on the shoulder and put it in park, restart it in order for it to turn on. This has occurred several times now. Even when turning or coming to a stop, truck has been doing this more often. Checked recalls but nothing,I know there are several complaints like mine. It has even occurred while turning, coming to a stop and driving at low speeds as well.

12 Engine Stall problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

As I was driving on the freeway at 70 mph, I heard a loud "smack!" before the engine stalled and I lost power steering and power breaks. Luckily, I'm pretty strong and was able to pull off to the shoulder. The engine would start but not turn over with 4 or 5 attempts. It started on the fifth or sixth try but would not idle. I was finally able to get it to start and on my way to the mechanic, I could tell something was broken in the engine. After inspecting the engine and looking into it, it's been determined that a valve spring broke and sent the valve through the piston and into the cylinder, effectively ceasing the engine while the vehicle travelled at freeway speeds.

The first incident was also at very low speed when backing out of a driveway and changing from reverse to drive and with this incident the vehicle was easily restarted.

15 Engine Stall problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/15/2015

Engine stalls while driving, this has happen twice in one week and could of been very dangerous if I was on the interstate, I took it to a shop and they said it put out a code for the wheel speed sensor and the stalling is happening because when the truck is moving it's putting out a signal saying it is parked.

16 Engine Stall problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/07/2015

When braking, the vehicle engine stalls as I slow down. The issue was intermittent, but now happens each time I break. I have to pull over with no power steering and restart the vehicle in p or n. Sometimes, I have to wait a few minutes before it will let me restart.

17 Engine Stall problem of the 2011 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 12/26/2014

While slowing down to make a turn, the engine stalled out. This has happened once before approximately 1 month prior. During both instances, I coasted through the turn to a stop but had difficultly steering and braking. Both times the vehicle restarted. I believe in other circumstances this issue may cause a crash situation. I have researched for recalls and bulletins but found none. I have, however, found many online internet complaints about this same or similar problem.

18 Engine Stall problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/20/2014

On multiple occasions, while at low speed (pulling into an intersection from a red light or stop sign), the engine idle drops and the engine stalls. I have to brake with my left foot and keep the engine idle up by pressing on the gas to keep from stalling. I have been almost rear ended several times and do not trust the truck. After reading the complaints and research on the truck, this happens a lot and is dangerous. When I talked to the dealer, they say they are not aware of any problems like this and they would be happy to diagnose the truck (for $125. 00) and go from there. From what I have read, it seems they want to exchange parts and charge for the service.

19 Engine Stall problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/17/2014

Engine stalled while driving a few times. Some times while turning causing a loss of steering. Finally engine quit, luckily while still and a valve sprig broke and valve dropped. Dodge has long know about this dangerous situation. Now I amount of warranty and out of luck. But lucky to be alive.

20 Engine Stall problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/09/2014

During idles or stopping for intersections or traffic the engine stalls and dies making it impossible to steer or stop. I have nearly wrecked several time when it happened on hills. The mechanics I when to can't find anything, one of which was the Dodge dealership. The problem started once after re fueling and now every time I get gas it does it several times then runs alright but the problem is getting worse. There in no warning when I dies and one of these times I am afraid I won't be able to stop it. I have seen multiple complaints on the issue with no decisive solution.

21 Engine Stall problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/06/2014

While driving on the freeway at night the headlights, tail lights, blinkers, 4-ways, brake lights, and tail lights went out and when slowing down to pull over the engine stalled. The engine started back up to get to the side of the road and stalled again with no warning. The truck now stalls at all stop lights and stop signs and is not giving any codes. The truck now has a large draw and kills the battary shortly after turing the truck off. The truck is still in the shop and so far the fcm, pdc and some wiring has been replaced but the power draw persists and the engine stalling still persists. Researching the issue on the internet this is a comon problem on this vehicle and has been for quite some time. This is a very dangerous issue and needs to be addressed.

Failure Date: 05/14/2013

While driving down the road the truck stalled out without any warning. I got it restarted after numerous attempts but the engine would continue to stall upon putting it in gear. Had to have it towed to the Dodge dealership and rent a car from hertz. The dealership has had the truck now for 4 days and still can not tell me what is wrong with it. This truck has a 5. 7-liter v8 hemi engine.

Vehicle was driving through a parking lot at approximately 5 miles per hour when suddenly the engine stalled. There was no loss of power to any other systems. The vehicle litterly just cut off. The steering immediately became tight and unable to turn. I placed the truck in park and turned the key to the off position and waited about 30 seconds and tried to restart the truck. 29 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/14/2012

I received a frantic phone call from my son stating his truck died in the middle of the road. At this time he couldn't start the vehicle and the area was pitch black and he was on a blind curve. My 17 year old son was driving home at approx. 10:00 p. M. On the winding, dark, mountain roads of our community. He was driving his 2007 Dodge ram hemi 5. 7 litre pickup. This pickup has very few miles on it for it's year. As he came into a corner at approximately 40 mph and began to navigate his turn the engine completely stalled leaving him with no brakes, no power steering and no engine. There were no warning lights and he was not able to navigate the turn and could not use the breaks at that point. He was on a dark road at the back side of a blind turn with no power and no brakes. After several minutes he was able to start the vehicle and safely get it off the road. Fortunately there were no cars in the several minutes it took him to restart the vehicle. This is the second occurrence, the first was on a country winding road with less traffic and at a lower rate of speed. As I have researched, it appears that there have been thousands of complaints regarding Dodge / Chrysler 5. 7 engine problems with these exact specifications and circumstances. When are we, the consumers, going to get results? will it be after someone is killed and their family is forced to sue Dodge before they will admit the ongoing problem? as I googled this problem I literally found thousands of forums dedicated to this specific problem and over 100 plus websites from consumers warning others that this could happen to them. I even found fleet mechanics from Dodge chiming in on forums stating that Dodge knows of the issue but refuses to correct it. I am asking that the NHTSA take heed and force Dodge / Chrysler to do the ethical thing and correct this problem before an innocent life is taken.

30 Engine Stall problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500

31 Engine Stall problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/15/2011

My 2005 Dodge ram 5. 7 hemi engine stalls at random times when slowing for a stop. I see tons of people on car forums with the same problem. This is very dangerous.

32 Engine Stall problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/11/2011

2005 Dodge ram hemi pickup truck. Slowing from 35 mph to take a significant corner when I discover there is no steering to speak of (strongman steering only). I barely make the corner almost hitting a newly renovated church. My next inclination is to pull the truck over and stop and I experience minimal to no brakes with maximum effort. No sensation that it had stalled and no indication on the panel indicator lights. I had the radio of and the fan on low with only road noise and I had no idea the engine had stalled. I've been driving safely for 33 years and this tops the list of freaky incidents and sensations (tops losing a wheel). Turned the ignition off and then back on and the truck started like nothing had happened. Drove the truck straight to the local garage. I'm concerned about the incident (very dangerous) and the fact that there are so many similar compaints about this situation online that relate to the hemi pickups. This could easily cause major accidents to innocent, unknowing people and families.

2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with 5. 7 hemi. As vehicle is slowed down for stop or turn engine shutters harshly and then stalls. Restart is possible, but each time a stop is completed engine stalls.

34 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Dodge Ram 1500

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving approximately 65 mph, the engine stalled. The contact was able to start the ignition and drive the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians reset the computer. The failure occurred a second time. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the cam and crank sensors where replaced. The contact stated the vehicle stalled a fourth time and was taken back to the dealer where the technicians where unable to duplicate or diagnose the failure. The vehicle stalled a fifth time and was taken back to the dealer where they flushed the fuel out and replaced the computer module. The contact spoke with the owner of the dealer who stated he would give the contact a call with more information about returning the vehicle but has not returned the call. The service department stated a different technician would inspect the vehicle and an appointment was made. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 700.

35 Engine Stall problem of the 2002 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 07/08/2010

Unexpected engine stall, particularly while driving. Would drive at normal speeds with no unusual acceleration or loads (50 mph max where I live), as foot is removed from accelerator, rpm's drop off to zero (stall) while in motion, sometimes at speeds up to 50 mph causing loss of power steering and power brakes, with last incident occurring on a long turn on highway causing a surprising and sudden loss of reasonable control of vehicle, further causing me to cross center line into oncoming traffic. Furthermore, had difficult time pulling over and nearly overran safe stopping area due to power brake loss, causing me to reach a ditch near shoulder, thus nearly causing rollover that was avoided by attempting to ride out of ditch prior to reaching utility pole which by doing so, caused vehicle to swerve back into traffic (not oncoming), all while having to wrestle steering wheel and brakes to get vehicle to respond enough to finally be able to pull safely off the road. Engine stall does not occur each time and is intermittent with no real indication as to why. After Dodge mechanic was unable to determine problem, I researched myself and found many other people with similar problem related to sludge. Asked mechanic to verify, and later confirmed was the case, but, says was my fault!?! (I change oil every 2. 5k - 3k without fail as per mfg requirements). Ultimately have learned of possible design flaw by Dodge regarding poor oil flow through engine ports, etc, of which corporate readily denies. I see absolutely no reason whatsoever how this can not be a serious design flaw that nearly killed me, my daughter and the poor guy in the oncoming lane. Only correction available is new engine which has not been done due to excessive costs, therefore truck now sits. I am a well rounded driver with lots of experience in most vehicles, large trucks and heavy equipment and can handle situations better than most people. It takes a lot to put fear in my heart and this really scared me.
