Without any warning, no gauge signs or anything, the truck just shut down. It would not start again and the engine seems to be locked up it will not crank over. I was sitting at a stop light and the check engine light came on, oil gauge dropped, and the truck shut off all within seconds. Not a good situation I was lucky that I was not on an interstate going 60 or 70 miles an hour.

When coming to a stop or turning the engine shuts off. No power steering or brakes when this happens. Also shuts of when slowing down to turns. No check engine light and no diagnostic codes. Dealer has had the vehicle for over 2 weeks now. It has died at least 15 times in the last 4 months. I almost hit a vehicle and curbs.
Check engine light came on with code for cylinder misfire. Did research online what problem might be and seen thousands of complaints with exact same issue. Took it to mechanic and he said lifter failure. Rollers seized up and took lobe off cam. This is the exact same thing I seen on thousands of other complaints online.

My 05 Dodge ram has been stalling in traffic at low speeds regularly of late. It also happened recently while parked for the first time. It ocasionally (1 failure out of 7) gives an error code and check engine light which reads as a bad crank shaft position sensor. I have put 3 on in the last 2 years. It started as intermitent and has become a steady issue. Truck has never run hot, no noises from engine to indicate a bad bearing or mis alignement. Wheel teeth are not broken or worn and there is not buildup of flakes or shavings anywhere that would be causing a fualty signal. Wiring rings out as good. Replacing the sensor was allowing normal operation for a short period but it is re-occuring at a faster rate each time. Truck does, so far, continue to resart almost imediately but still presents considerable risk in heavy traffic conditions. This was looked at previously and TSB 18-013-05 was released as a "fix. " it has not been a successful fix as the issues continue to re-occur with what apears to be a fairly alarming rate. Truck currently has 160,750 miles on it. The last 3 sensors were installed in 2 years and less than 20,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving various speeds under 20 mph, the rpms dropped below one and the vehicle stalled. In addition, the steering failed and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle restarted on the first attempt, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 89,040.
While coasting to a stop light from 45mph, engine shut down loosing power steering, thus 100% control of vehicle. Truck stopped in the intersection blocking 3 lanes of traffic. No check engine light lit up, although did notice rpm fluctuated just prior to episode. Truck started up shortly thereafter, I continued on my way, no clue's on what occurred.

Vehicle stalls within 2-4 seconds after coming to a complete stop. This problem first manifested itself in 2010, it occurred once and did not happen again until six months ago, occurring once a month or so. It has now become nearly a daily occurrence this month. There are no other indications such as warning lights, check engine light or trouble codes. The vehicle will usually start right back up but on 01-07-2016 it took almost an hour before it would restart, that was after blocking traffic at a busy intersection for 40 minutes and a 20 minute tow.

On 12/19/15 I was driving i75 north,140 miles before atalanta GA my truck made a big bang and the engine just stopped on the spot including everything, steering. I made it safely to the side of the road don't know how. There was no indication, check engine light nothing just a bang. My car insurance won't fix it Dodge will not be accountable either part malfunction they say, I guess I am responsible for it since I build the truck right. I am out of a truck I still pay on it, no car or transportation I tuck care of my truck I guess I am to post to be held responsible for a part I did not manufactured right . I am happy to be alive at this point. . Read more...
At 12k -13k miles I experienced an engine stall in the early morning. The instrument cluster remained lit and I was able to engage the emergency flasher. I was on a back road and luckily I was able to coast into a driveway. After numerous turns of the key fob, the engine started. This incident was reported to the dealership, but they seemed to shrug it off. Fast forward to 10/9/15. I had trouble again starting the truck. I proceeded to the store and was on a main thoroughfare when I started to turn across traffic into a parking lot. The engine died and luckily my momentum carried me off the street out of traffic and into the lot. Cars had to go around me as I tried to get the vehicle started. The next Monday 10/12/15 I had trouble starting again and I was able to proceed to work. At the end of my shift, it took a couple dozen turns of the key fob to get the truck started and I made it home. The truck now sits in the driveway waiting for a service appointment on 10/30/15. If it does not start, it will have to be towed. When I inquired online about this problem I was aghast at how many others were having the same issue as me and Chrysler was doing very little to make it right. The stall of an engine in traffic is a very dangerous safety problem. The truck has a battery less than 2 years old and has only 35200 miles on it. I am not getting any check engine lights. It is serviced routinely by the Chrysler dealer.
The truck began stalling while shifting from reverse to drive. It is now happening when shifting from drive to park. There are no codes in the computer and the check engine light does not come on. When this happens, I loose power steering. The truck always re-starts right away.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the check engine light illuminated sporadically. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v770000 (air bags) and 15v313000 (air bags); however, the parts to do the repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 132,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
The first time this happened, I was turning at an intersection and the truck just stalled. No warning or check engine light nothing. I had no power steering or brakes. Luckily no one hit us or we didn't hit anyone. My husband and brother pushed the truck into a near by parking lot. After about 20 min. The truck started back up. Three days later I was driving down the street pulling a trailer. The truck stalled again I was able to get it to roll into a parking lot. It started back up. We took it to a mechanic. He couldn't find a code on it. This continued to happen quite often. The mechanic finally changed out a sensor , that cost us $385. 00. After a week the check engine light came on. The machanic said the code could be several things and I don't have the money to keep changing things that are not working. So now if I let my fuel tank get down less than a half tank the truck misses and tries to cut out like its not getting enough fuel. I can't even drive it because I am afraid it will stall and I am a small women. I can't fight it with no power steering and brakes.
The contact owns a 2003 Dodge ram. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, the steering wheel was difficult to maneuver when making a right turn. Additionally, when the brake pedal was depressed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,000.
Check engine light came on. That was 9/24/14. The check engine light has been through a myriad of "fixes". It is now 02/03/15 (5 1/2 months) - the check engine light is still on and the dealership has it in for "repair". The warranty requires that the vehicle not be driven when the check engine light is on, thus denying us of the regular use of the vehicle, which is critical in our cattle operation. The full nature of the complaint may be obtained by faxing or emailing a request to us.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v817000 (air bags), 14v796000 (power train), and 14v770000 (air bags) exceeded a reasonable amount of time. The dealer informed that the parts were not available for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the delay. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000.
While driving at a speed of appproximately 25 to 30 mph, the engine stalled. This happened three times in the same day. It continues to happen at random up until the present usually when coasting or turning. The check engine light came on at 2,307 miles and codes p0171 and p0174 were found and both oxygen sensors were replaced. Three days after repair truck continues to stall. Has been in for service five times and no other repairs made because they say they can't duplicate the problem and the check engine light has not come on again. Invoice shows that there is a stored code, p0884, but since it is not active they will not be authorized or paid to repair the truck. The description of this stored code is exactly what I have been complaining that the truck does, stalls when turning or coasting at a speed of 20-30 mph. I guess money is more important than customer safety.
While driving down the road at 45 mph I let off the gas to slow down when the truck started to lunge forward then stop then continued to lunge forward it repeated this process for a while. When I pressed on the gas it was fine only when I let off it. After about 5 miles the check engine light came on went to autozone had the code reed. The map sensor was bad so I replaced it myself. A week later driving down the road the truck began doing the same thing, only this time at a stop light the engine shut off. The steering wheel locked up as well as the brakes. I was able to get it restarted but it nearly caused an accident. Went down the road about 1/2 a mile when he died and I was unable to restart it. Had it towed to a Dodge dealership who said the map sensor was once again bad. They replaced the map sensor this time and everything was well for about 2 weeks. When once again the truck did the same thing. Took it back to the same dealership once again the fault code was the map sensor. Upon them digging further they found the pcm was actually shorting out the map sensor. So they replaced the pcm. The new one came in and they weren't able to reprogram it. They contacted daimler-chyrsler who sent them another pcm they received that one and still are unable to reprogram the pcm. So that's 3 map sensor's and now 2 pcm's.

Vehicle is a 4x4 Ram 1500 express with 5. 7 hemi and 8-speed transmission. I purchased it new. The first incident occurred at around 200 miles on the odometer, on the third day after I purchased the vehicle. It stalled when approaching a stop sign near my home. It did not restart and run well immediately thereafter, but after 3 tries I was able to keep it running and after that it began to run smoothly for the remaining short distance to my home. I was worried that it may be a loose gas cap, so I removed the cap and re-installed it. Then less than a week later, the vehicle stalled again on 2 separate occasions during the same outing. First time was in a parking lot, and the second time was in a busy intersection. In each case, I was able to re-fire after a few attempts. The vehicle did the same thing again twice yesterday. Today the vehicle stalled again near my home. Every stall has been when slowing to stop or to make a turn. I do not feel comfortable with my family riding in a vehicle that stalls unexpectedly. It is an accident waiting to happen. I have contacted the dealer and have an appointment for a diagnostic test on this Friday. The check engine light is not illuminated, and the dealer has already indicated during a phone conversation that it will be difficult to do much if there are no obd codes to read. I have contacted other dealers to inquire if other customers may be having a similar situation. None have heard of this issue in this model year.
The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the power steering assist suddenly malfunctioned and caused the steering wheel to become difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the power steering pump was faulty. The power steering pump was replaced and the defect was remedied. The contact also indicated that while driving approximately 75 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle suddenly lost power as the vehicle independently decelerated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to diagnose the defect. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 126,000.

The contact owns a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the engine stalled as the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 93,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I started to get a rough idle condition on my Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab with the 5. 7 hemi motor and auto trans. Now intermittently over the past several month the truck stalls when going from reverse to drive. . . Though not that dangerous an inconvenience. The dangerous part is when I sometimes pull into traffic the truck will start forward as it should then the motor will just die causing loss of brake and steering functions. I am getting no engine codes or check engine light. I have even hooked the truck up to a computer with no codes detected. Recently I went to pull into traffic onto a road that was 35mph and the motor again died. Luckily the driver heading toward my driver side door slammed on their brakes and allowed me to put the truck in neutral restart it and get it out of the other vehicle's lane of travel. The throttle body has been cleaned the spark plugs have been changed with no luck and the problem persists. This is a link to just (1) website of many that I found that shows this is clearly not isolated to my vehicle. . Read more...
In the fall of last year the check engine light came on in my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. The code that came up was misfire in cylinder 8. I took it to a mechanic and they said it was the fuel injector which they replaced. A few days later after getting my truck back the light came on again. This time the code was misfire in cylinder 6. I took it to a very trusted mechanic who stated it was a rocker arm that had come off due to junk in the engine. Once it was fixed again the light came on saying misfire in cylinder 8. The mechanic said it was the rocker arm on that cylinder and replaced it. This happened 4 more times in the next month. The mechanic, who is very reputable, believes this is a manufacturing defect that will continue to occur no matter how often it is repaired. He also stated he has seen this in many many Dodge trucks and most notably in the 474 engine. It is an engine and safety issue due to loss of throtle which occurs very often when the problem is on going and is definite risk of causing an auto accident. This code is coming up every other day now and I believe it needs to be recalled.
I was driving on interstate 90 when my truck suddenly shut down for no reason. No check engine lights, just a total loss of power and the steering locked up. I was able to restart it by throwing it into neutral, but it would not restart in park. This has been happening off and on, and no mechanics can seem to figure it out since it doesn't happen all the time. I'm scared to drive it. I have been on Dodgeforum. Com, and there are many Dodge models/years suffering this problem, but no recall has been issued. This is a major safety issue and I don't know what to do to get it fixed (nor do I have the money to keep taking it in again and again). It "codes out" as an electrical/computer issue of unknown origin that no one has yet been able to fix, despite replaced valves, relays, etc.
Air conditioning works fine, as long as the vehicle is moving. When stopped at traffic lights or intersections, the a/c gets warm, as if the condenser is not working. When starting up again, it gets cold after a bit of time. Searched the internet, and found this is a problem that occurs often, and many said check the fuse #39. On Aug. 1, I checked the fuse, and found that the plastic and metal parts of the fuse had melted onto the spot it was plugged into. All of the other fuses seem to be fine, but there is a tiny chunk of metal I cannot remove from the fusebox to plug in another fuse, nor do I want to plug in another fuse, as I don't know why the previous one melted. I am not sure if this is covered in any recalls. Also, when I tried to have the truck inspected, it failed for the check engine light, and there are several recalls listed in the possible cause list for the code that registered in the inspection machine.

Shortly after entering highway 281, my engine fell on it's face. I pushed the gas pedal but got nothing but rpm's from the engine. I began to move over to the right with no power, little steering, a dash full of error lights, and doing my best not to get hit by passing vehicles. Once I got to the side of the road, the engine wasn't running. I started the engine and checked my gauges. The check engine light was on, the water temp was near the red zone, and the engine sound like bowling ball in a dryer. There was fluid on the ground or smoke from the tailpipes so I felt it was safer to get off the highway with the truck. Near the exit, I pulled in a station where I checked the truck and top-off the water. The sound was like a dropped rocker arm. I had the truck towed to the dealer where they from the "factory" coating inside the oil pan had delaminated and was sucked into the pickup tube. The coating then plugged the screen and pickup tube. I called Dodge cares and they tried to blame me then the oil. I told them I've never used additives, always use mobil one, and I had receipts dating back to the day I drove the truck off the lot new. They claimed this was a non-issue and it had not be reported before now. I have always taken very good care of my vehicles and to be told a manufacturing error is my fault does not set well with me. Now I have to replace the whole engine because some engineer was dumb enough to coat the inside surface of the oil pan. I normally travel during the night into early hours of the day. What if this had happen while I was out in the middle of no-where. I'm handicapped; I couldn't have walked a quart of a mile for help. What if my 70-year mother had been driving my truck at the time! this could have been real bad!!! and then to be told it's non-problem. I have pictures if you want to see them.
When coming to a stop or idling in traffic the rpms drop low and the truck shuts off. In the beginning it happened twice spaced about a month apart after the second time I took it to get looked at found nothing wrong. Didnt happen for a while. Now its happening often its been to several places nobody can find anything,no check engine light ,hooked up to the computer nothin. Called Dodge directly no answers, went online found tons of complaints like mine all spending thousands replacing various parts with still no solution. My question are there any complaints in your database like mine and what's my course of action. . . As the last time it happened I stopped to make a turn just as I started in the intersection it shutoff. . Do I have to get in an accident before Dodge will help!.
Engine stalled at idle, then again when braking coming to a red light. It does this randomly with no warning. Almost got into an accident on the second incident as truck took a couple times of trying to restart while at a major intersection. No engine light comes on and no codes are thrown. Dodge needs to fix this on their hemi model trucks. Have read on multiple web-sights that this is a continuing problem! if Dodge doesn't do something soon to fix this for their customers I will be selling my truck for a Ford again and never buy from Dodge or tell others to buy from them!!!.
Check engine light is on. Strong smell of gas when vehicle is shut off. Vehicle stalls at slow speeds. Can't tell the engine quit as the rpms bottom out and engine dies. Very dangerous for driving. No control after the engine stops. This happened twice today. First time was in traffic in a town at a stop light. Couldn't restart the engine for awhile and couldn't get the truck out of traffic. Second time slowed to turn around in a driveway entrance and backed up when I came to a stop to shift to d the engine stalled and I didn't know it. My truck was at an angle crossing 2 lanes of taffic. Luckily, I was able to get it restarted. I googled the problem and it seems to be very common and dangerous with limited success on finding a repair solution.
2009 Dodge ram. Consumer writes in regards to check engine light issues. The consumer stated the dealer replaced several components and flashed the power train control module, but the check engine light continued to illuminate. On several occasions, the dealer just reset the light.
Recently my Ram 1500 has begun to stall for no reason. No check engine light will come on and no sputtering. Just stalls when I slow down for a light or making a turn. It will usually starts right up and act like nothing happened. Other times it will take about a minute to start. Thankfully I have not been rear ended, yet.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500. While traveling at 35 mph, the check engine warning light and the throttle warning codes were illuminated. Within seconds, the vehicle would no longer accelerate. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for repairs or diagnostic testing. The failure recurred the next month while driving at 35 mph, without warning. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 28,000 and the current mileage was 29,000.
2006 Dodge Ram 1500 5. 7l hemi engines stalls. When traveling below 15mph truck engines stalls. This is the second time it has happened in a month. Took it to Chrysler dealership said couldn't find anything. Check engine light is on.
2004 Dodge Ram 1500 slt with hemi 5. 7 engine - 61k miles. Until now I have been very happy with the truck. It is a pleasure truck and has never hauled anything. I have done eveything to maintain the truck perfectly. I had the gsr valve replaced as the check engine light came on. Ever since then the truck just quits and stalls and has left me in very dangerous condition. I am afraid to drive the truck now. When it stalls it will not start or even turn over and has to be towed - twice now in a week. After some time the truck starts and the mechanics have been unable to find anything wrong. This truck is dangerous and I am afraid to drive on any interstate. What can I do??.
