Dodge Ram 1500 owners have reported 13 problems related to ignition module (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Their is a recall on Chrysler vechicles 2008 through 2010 the wireless ignition node (win) module on your vehicle may have unintentional movement of the frequency operated button ignition key (fobik) from the on to the accessory position while driving. This could cause unintended engine shut off and increase the risk of a crash. Initially my 2012 Dodge Ram 1500, has a similar problem the ignition (win )has play in the switch , problem with intermittent start , mechanic has to wiggle key , or turn hard to start , says win needs replacing , online I have seen that this is a typical problem of this year of Dodge ram, several posts of this issue.

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. While attempting to start the vehicle, the engine would not start, the shifter would not move, and the key would not release from the ignition switch. After removing the key from the ignition switch, the key was still in the ignition message displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the win module failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

While traveling down road the vehicle just shut off losing steering and braking was able to put in neutral and and get started after several tries of starting and it would shut right back off before it would start and stay running, it has done this numerous times sometimes when first starting vehicle sometimes right after starting and driving off, it has did this several times pulling out of my driveway onto busy highway almost resulting is an accident. It happened to my wife a couple of times the first time she could not get it to start and stay running to get it out of the roadway and had to put the emergency flashers on and leave it setting across the south bound lane of the highway to come back inside to get me to try to get it out of the road. After that incident she was afraid to drive it,took to dealership 02/09/15 got back today 02/10/15 they had to replace ignition switch module at a cost of $286. 75 this was a serious safety issue and needs to be looked into and there should be a recall issued for this problem before there is a serious accident resulting in serious injury or a fatality. There was a recall issued for the same problem on the Dodge caravan's and Dodge journey's with the same type win (wireless ignition node) ignition switch.
The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, the anti-lock warning light illuminated. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle but the ignition switch did not move from the on position until after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the wireless ignition node module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that key fob became trapped in the ignition and caused the automatic lock system to fail. The contact had to lock the doors manually and disconnect the battery to shut the electrical system down. The dealer performed a diagnostic which located the failure at the ignition module. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number 10v200000 (electrical system). The failure and current mileage was 58,551.
The wireless ignition module has become defective. It will no longer hold the key fob in place once the vehicle is started. The key simply falls out but the vehicle continues running. The vehicle will also turn off while still in gear now. Additionally, sometimes the module will not turn, or will not turn completely, when the key is inserted and you attempt to start the vehicle. Sometimes it won't turn completely to the off position once the vehicle is started. Chrysler safety recall k08 issued in August 2010 addresses these issues in the 2010 ram trucks but for some reason it does not cover the 2011 models. Dodge has told me it is my problem to fix and not their defect.

1) interior blower fan: (24,000 miles) fan would shut off at times. First told by dealer the air intake was blocked with leaves and they cleaned it out. Two weeks later, I got the recall that the wiring harness for the blower was overheating. I had the dealer do repair for recall. They clipped the two lighter wires and replaced them with two 10 gauge wires. Fan still shuts off due to tilting steering wheel with heavier wiring not being flexible enough. Wires still get very hot. 2) radiator fan control relay: (90,000 miles) check engine light came on and code was for radiator fan control relay circuit. Relay was replaced. 3) engine: (129,000 miles) oil sludge caused oil not to circulate properly causing oil pressure gauge to drop to zero and back up to normal about 4 times. Engine over heated, warping heads and doing interior damage to rods and bearings. Engine had to be replaced with used engine. 4) passenger window switch: (for the past 20,000 miles) passenger side switch works intermittently. 5) parking lights: (149,000 miles) was informed by another driver that I had no tail lights. Checked fuses and relay and everything was ok. Took truck to garage, they checked and could not find a problem. Garage called Dodge dealership, they told them it would probably need the front control module replaced. The garage did not charge me and told me they did not want to just start replacing parts costing over $200 trying to pin point a problem and I needed to take it to the dealership. The dealership checked it and told me I would need to replace the power distribution module and the front control module due to both having an internal short. Why bother having fuses if you can just have circuit boards costing over $200 each blow out?
6) ignition park lock: (149,000 miles) got a recall notice about ignition park lock needing replaced. Dealership repaired. This truck definitely has its share off defects, with the engine and wiring. More should be done as far as recalls.

The truck wouldn't start. There was plenty of power from the battery for the lights, bells and horn but the truck wouldn't make a single sound. By pulling an ignition fuse to see if blown I accidentally reset a control module in the steering column. This worked for a while but eventually that trick no longer worked and I had to call the free roadside assistance I got by buying the truck.

Dodge Ram 1500 continues to stall while driving at low speeds or braking to slow on highways. The loss of all power steering and brakes occur until the truck can be re-started. The problem seems to be heat related since it occurs most often when the outside temperature is over 80 degrees and the car driven over 1-1/2 hrs in duration. This problem has been occurring for the last three years and the manufacture has made many repairs but none that has fixed the problem. They have changes sensors, throttle body and then cleaned same. Changed air filter but nothing has corrected the problem. As recently as last month the dealer had the truck for three weeks and could not find a single thing wrong. I can tell from the internet I'm not the only person having this problem. It most be fixed or loss of life will occur.

: the contact stated while starting the vehicle the blower motor failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where they determined the ignition module was burned on one end. The wiring was melted due to the wiring being too small. The wiring overlay harness, wiring and ignition switch were replaced, which remedied the problem.

Sudden loss of power steering and power brakes due to engine stalling. Engine stalls while driving. Event has occurred six times now. Once right after I purchased the vehicle and then again at 7642, 9861, 11487, 11898 and 12,009 miles. I lost control of the vehicle during one event as the power loss occurred while I was turning a sharp corner. I went into the other lane of traffic but due to light traffic at the time this did not result in a crash. The local dealer says that they are aware of this problem but the factory hasn't provided a solution. I feel that it is only a matter of time before people are injured by this defect as the sudden loss of power steering can easily cause loss of control.

Consumer has multiple problems: first, abs locked up & wouldn't unlock until vehicle stopped. Dealer has changed every part they can think off, didn't have a clue to a remedy. Manufacturer said abs was only used for emergency purposes. Second, problem involved brake fluid leaking. Dealer found a seal leaking, and put in a new master cylinder. Consumer picked vehicle up, and it didn't make it for 3 blocks. Front wheels locked up. Only thing that dealer had to say was sometimes they get bad parts. Consumer has more information to send in. Factory battery shorted out along with radio. The dash cluster, thermostat and housing on engie, crank sensor, both front rotors and calipers and steering gear box were replaced.
