Dodge Ram 1500 owners have reported 16 problems related to power steering pump (under the steering category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The engine stalls and cuts off without any warning. I've had it at 4 different auto repair shops including 3 weeks at landmark Dodge and no one can determine what is going on with it. I've had the fuel pump replaced and cylinders replaced. It's crazy andd very frustrating that Dodge can't fix their own product.

My husband's Dodge Ram 1500 has had 2 power steering pumps replaced. The last pump was replaced in less than 39 days. Within the last week we have had 4 different episodes of the power steering gpoes out. When the power steering does go out there is a hard jerk to the right side. This is very dangerous. This past time my family and I was pulling a 27 foot camper behind us when the steering went out. We also had to replace the struts on the truck. This is ridiculous to keep having these dangerous problems. I will no longer let my son ride with his father because of the parental of the steering going out. This should not happen.

While driving at freeway speeds my truck completly shut off, I lost power to everything, including power steering. I had previous had my truck into the dealership for problems with my fuel pump staying on and learned it was a problem with the tipm (totally integrated power module) which Chrysler is aware of and has recalls for some vehicles in certin states. The symtoms my truck is having is the same listed in many of the complaints, ie. Vehicles randomly shutting off, fuel pump staying on and draining the batteries, air bags randomly deploying. After researching multiple fourms and website I found its a very common problem among Chrysler vehicles. This needs to be addressed before someone gets hurt or killed due to faulty parts and equipment.

Linkage in steering column will remain in 2nd gear when I have put it in drive. It has been in mechanics twice. Twice into mechanics regarding antifreeze spilling inside the cab of truck. Repair was on water pump both times. Still having problems with both concerns. Resulting in health issues being at risk linkage while in motion on highway. Antifreeze spewing inside cab of truck on windshield, carpet and mats, also center of cab near 4 wheel gear shifter. Occurs when stationary or when driving.
2012 Dodge ram with 4. 7 litre engine. Noticed a ground out vibration type noise at low speeds and at idle in gear at stop light there was a really noticable vibration in steering wheel. Found power steering pump to be loose and under further investigation found that there were no threads in mounting bolt hole at the 9:00 position and the lower bolt at the 6:00 position in the end of the cylinder head. Therefore there was only one bolt holding on the power steering pump and it had loosened up and now the pump and line were viberating. Vehicle is being repaired at dealership by replacing the cylinder head. This vehicle should have never left the plant in this condition and definatley should not of left the dealership. This shows very poor quality control at both the plant and dealership new vehicle prep department. I do not beleive this could be an isolated incident and further investigation of vehilcles with this engine built at this time should be investigated. This truck was delivered to the dealership in mid November not sure of exact build date due to truck not being in my possesion right now it is at the dealer for repair.

Steering-at approximately 70,000 miles, the power steering fluid began to require attention. At present, I have to add fluid every 3-4 weeks. My son has a pick-up, same year, same model and has the same problem. Yesterday, in a parking lot, another motorist informed me that, he too, had the same problem, only worse. He pointed to a puddle on the ground-steering fluid.
I was driving down interstate 65 in mobile, al doing a speed of around 65 mph. Suddenly and without warning, my steering wheel locked-up and I was not able to turn the steering wheel left or right. Thankfully, there were not many cars on the highway and I was able to coast across 3 lanes of the highway, finally stopping in a ditch on an off ramp. The problem that occurred was the power steering pump popped off, wrapped around my serpentine belt, and cracked my head gasket. They replaced all parts that were damaged. One month later, the windshield wiper modulator malfunctioned during a rain storm and I had no wind shield wipers.
I have had (2)two close calls from a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 due to equipment failures. (1) the power steering pump failed during a snowstorm and skidded me off the road. (2) recently with just 44,000 miles on the ram the wheelbearings seized and the driverside tire blowout sending me again to the side of the road into a small culvert. Even though under warranty Dodge is delaying fixing it because I have been complaining about these equipment failures. I've noticed many complaints and even limited recalls regarding Dodge wheelbearings being defective. If you are involved with either of these equipment failures you'd know how catastrophic it could be.
Power steering failed when taking a corner-unable to control vehicle. Told by dealer later that the power steering shaft had broken. Was told by 2 different dealers that they have had numerous incidents of this situation with Dodge vehicles.

When making a left turn on a road or a parking lot, and there is water in the road, the water will splash on the power steering belt. At this time I lose all steering control and I keep going in the direction that the wheel is in. This has happened at least three times. After about one to two seconds the steering returns. So far there have not been any accidents. I would like to know if there have been any other complaints like this and what I can do to prevent this from happining again.
